I feel like this place is a solid 3.5, but because I can't do half stars, and a few reasons I'm going with a 3, instead of a 4. The set up and decor is very cute, very much the classic 50 diner vibe. The tables and overall vibe is a little worn and not as fresh as it probably was 10 years ago. Our table had to be wiped down before we sat down, and some food was still on the seat of the booth when i sat down. I had been thinking that this is forgivable, as it felt like when we walked in, there was only one server working. We found out as we dined that there were other employees, but she pretty much was the only one of them working. (And she did great). Menu was diverse and a huge thumbs up for all day breakfast. It took quite a long time to get our food after ordering. My sister-in-law didn't get her side salad till after she finished her main course, and that was after she asked for it. It's diner grub. I had a sandwich with fries, which I thought was pretty good. But others in my group got burgers, mac and cheese and stroganoff. At the time they all were hungry and didn't have complaints, but since their commentary about their meal has been that the food was just "meh". It wasn't bad food, but it wasn't good either in their opinion. I tried a bite of the mac and cheese, and thought it was ok, a little salty. The biggest reason it is a 3 star vs 4 star, is that the overall opinion of my group is that they won't be going back to this restaurant again. read more

I gotta start off by saying the fried oyster PO'Boy was the bizzi dizzi bomb!!!! Never had anything like it and that shiiiiii was delicious..They have a wide selection of oyster combos it's amazing. Also had the smoked salmon Benedict which was lit... So much to chose from on their menu and the portion size was plate full . Inside the Spaces are limited so it can get packed but it's worth the wait but overall Great diner , reasonable prices , delicious food and definitely excellent Service. This place is awesome! The restaurant was a super cute diner. It had an old school milkshake machine behind the bar counter, and classic vinyl booths with a juke box in the back. The decor on the walls were cool as well. The menu has a bunch of good things on it. It was a bit hard to choose because I wanted so many things but I'll be back to try some other things. I built my own burger and it was so yummy. The burger was juicy and big. My boyfriend got a clubhouse and he liked it. Our other guest had a pancake breakfast with spam. The pancake was as big as the plate and she got two! They looked nice and fluffy and the spam had nice grill marks on it. Our server was very nice and friendly and she checked on us often. I highly recommend this place if you are in the Poulsbo area. read more

When we first went here, the Reuben was delicious, one of the best I've had. Then a few months ago they changed it. So we tried some of the other foods that we previously had and something has happened. The quality took a nose dive. This last visit, however, was absolutely the worst. Our waitress came and took our drink and food orders and we literally never saw her again. They brought no condiments, no water, and never even came to see if our food was correct. Some other person came and dropped off the bill. We saw our waitress attending to all the other tables but she didn't return to ours. So now, with the food taking a nose dive and the service being absolutely offensive, I would urge others to make a different choice. First time, East Coaster where diners are clutch and full of scratch made flavors! Cute inside but the food was MEH at best. The menu was a bit confusing as there were a few different words used to describe the same items. I actually had to ask what the difference was between a flapjack and a pancake. I assumed there was as flapjack is not common on the East Coast, whelp it's the same! No biggie. Had the Salmon Benedict and it was wet and messy. Eggs may have been slightly undercooked and the hollandaise sauce was very loose. Kitchen was slow but there was no real hurry. Couldn't say enough great things about this place! A cute diner with AMAZING AND DELICIOUS FOOD!! I had the Mediterranean Omelette with Roasted Potatoes. They are not shy when it comes to portion!! My husband ate the Viking Burger which was juicy and tantalizing! But what made the experience phenomenal was the OUTSTANDING service by our server Katie!! She took great care of us, gave her recommendations on things do and try in the area, and kept making sure we were okay. The outside seems like just a regular diner to stop to grab a bite. But when you walk in, it's breathtaking. The windows, oh the windows! So much light in the main space. We asked to sit at the perfect little high top by the windows where we people watched and had a view of the water. Our waitress was so kind, helpful and just downright nice. Our waters were never empty, she was chatty in the right kind of way and gave us suggestions of what to try for breakfast. Then the food came! I got the Viking breakfast.... and ate the other half for dinner. They have the best biscuits and gravy I've ever had. So. Good. We will be back. And back again I'm sure. Love Green Light Diner! Usually get the fried oyster scramble but tried something new today. I ordered an egg white scramble with tomato, sausage, and cheddar added (so good) while my husband ordered one of his favorites, the Hawaiian Fried Rice omelette. Both were yum! The wait for a seat was extremely long the wait for the food was extremely long the food came out bit by bit and the staff seemed extremely unhappy and I don't doubt it the way they were being treated by the owner(?). The food was absolutely subpar. We were not asked how we liked our eggs we were not asked if we wanted a side of soup or if we were substituting that as our side. We were excited to eat here, after reading reviews. I'm sorry to report a mediocre experience. We had a French Dip sandwich and a Reuben, both with the house salad. The au jus for the FD had a hearty and tasty flavor, but was too salty. The Reuben didn't have a lot of corned beef, but the flavor was well-balanced between the sauerkraut and the "1k Island" dressing. Both salads were simple, with a variety of greens and tasty croutons. The bleu cheese dressing was very good. Service was okay, until after the food was delivered. The server disappeared, never again to be seen. I finally went to the soda fountain, to ask the woman there for our check, which she brought quickly. 5 minutes later, I again went up to pay our bill. That woman needed to change the paper roll in the printer. That's when the fun began! She was eventually able to insert the new roll, but was unable to print the charge slip for us to sign. I would have paid cash then, but the charge had already gone through, as evidenced by the text message I received from the card issuer. It took two more employees and about 10 minutes, before they were able to coax the printer to deliver the slip for me to sign. I should mention that it was 4:44 pm on a Tuesday. During the entire time, there was ONE other customer, who was sitting at the bar. The food was okay, but unremarkable. The service was very memorable, but not in a good way. read more

He philly cheese steak fries were the special on the day we came (Saturday) and they were absolutely fantastic. More than large enough for a meal, not an appetizer. So the price point was spot on. I had the smoked salmon omelette which I really enjoyed. The diced potatoes were slightly firm but I wasn't too bothered. It was VERY busy here on a Saturday, which seems about right. The interior and exterior are so absolutely quaint and adorable with their large windows and outdoor seating, and all of the Americana all over the walls and tables. I really enjoyed myself. We also got a grasshopper shake which I really liked as well, although not the best I've ever had. I'm sure we'll return the next time we're in Poulsbo. read more

The only reason the rating is high is because of the service and atmosphere. Such a cute place, we walked in, all the staff was friendly, big smiles and genuinely awesome all around. All very attentive, talkative, super nice. The food, however, I'd give a 1 star. It was very unfortunate because everything was going well, it was cute, we were enjoying our time before entering and during, we had playing cards and crayons at our table, just overall, great mood. I could not decide what to get, I wanted a chili dog, but $15 felt a bit steep for a chili dog, and spaghetti and meatballs sounded next best, to me. What came was like boiled pasta, jarred spaghetti sauce thrown on top, and frozen meatballs. Idk what I should've expected from a diner, I make a really good meatball and we've been eating them several times the past couple months, not hard to make and meaty and delicious. These were so bad, chewy I had to pull with my teeth, hard to cut with a fork, which is super unfortunate. It felt really phoned in. Boiled pasta and jarred pasta sauce and frozen meatballs. No added seasonings to give flavor. I mean, I've been served this for free at local events. BUT THEY ADD SEASONING! I mean some parsley and some bay leaves, Italian seasoning, really goes a long way. I thought the food was pretty good. I had the chicken fried steak. The gravy was ok, not quite as warm as I like it. Somebody in a previous review said the chicken fried steak was homemade, however it was not on this day. The roasted potatoes were very good and had a slight kick to them. Finally had the chance to check out Green Light Diner on a surprisingly sunny albeit blustery Saturday in January. Let's face it - nothing sounds more appealing in the dead of winter than a warm cup of coffee and some classic diner grub. The place was packed by 11am with the breakfast rush in full swing, clearly the honor of best breakfast in North Kitsap is well known in Poulsbo and if you happen to just be visiting now you know! I loved the classic diner charm on the interior but with a predominately booth type configuration larger groups may struggle to find space together. Service was friendly but not incredibly attentive for coffee refills and by the time we were ready for checks we'd had 3 or 4 waitstaff attending our table. I went with the chicken friend steak which was delicious and the portion size was huge, I didn't particularly care for the chunky sausage gravy though so I scraped most of that to the side. Eggs cooked to order, nothing special and perfectly crispy hashbrowns. Dropping a star because service was a bit jumbled and chaotic and while I didn't think the meal was exceptional it was a solid hearty meal that I'll surely remember the next time I'm in the neighborhood. Pretty much everything is good. And what makes it a really good place to go is the variety will please the group. Last time we went, I had a good burger! My daughter had a fantastic meal - a bowl of potatoes and scramble, I can't actually remember. My husband's wasn't good, though. He had biscuits and gravy and added eggs. The biscuits were very dry and there wasn't enough gravy to "in-dry" them. Our fourth had chicken strips and liked them too. Nothing that fancy or unusual- but whether you're wanting breakfast or lunch, water or alcohol, this place is pretty accommodating. Plus we sat outside and while I don't know why all the view is blocked by a plastic fabric screen, it was nice to be outside, more private, and much more quiet. read more

A friend came to visit me from out of town and wanted to grab a quick dinner at a place that we don't usually go to when he comes to town. I had never been to the Green Light Diner so I thought well okay let's try it. Honestly, our conversation was great and the food was not very memorable. It's really a good thing that we were into such deep conversation because I may have been a little bit more harsh on rating our restaurant experience. The experience was pretty ho-hum. Really nothing to share any brilliant insights about the quality of the place or the food. The only thing is it seemed to be somewhat fashioned in the Old Fashioned soda pop shop style to some degree. Those soda fountain shops were always fun back in the day. But the thing is here at this restaurant it did not create the fun. It was my friend and I engaged in our time together that created the fun. It's like the restaurant did not add anything to our dining experience. In fairness to the restaurant though someday I may go back and give it another try. Stopped in for breakfast and had the sausage biscuit and gravy, for my meet I had the link sausage. I was blown away. I found out the chef makes it in house. I asked because if it was in the grocery store it would be my go to breakfast sausage. The gravy was made with the sausage and was very good. I will be coming back for sure. read more

This place is Amazing! I ate here yesterday with my wife! She had The Three Cheese Melt! I ordered Green Light's Mac & Cheese! The only things I didn't like was it took awhile to wait for our food. When our food arrived my meal wasn't hot, I had to eat lukewarm pasta until I reached the center of my Mac & Cheese that was hot. Same thing with my wife's fries that went with her meal. They were also not hot. Which who likes to eat lukewarm fries? Not us! And they need to give you a bigger cup to put on your side salad. The cup they gave me for my salad barely covered half of my salad. And lastly the service waiting to pay for our check was terrible, I was waiting at the register and had two waitresses look right at me waiting then kept on talking to each other. Sorry but that was pretty unprofessional! As for the ambiance of this place! Very neat! Loved the old diner feel of this place! Would I recommend this place to my family and friends? Yes, I would! We stopped here and we really loved our meal! Poulsbo is one of our FAVORITE places in Washington, so we knew we wanted to bring our family here when they came to visit. We ordered a BLT, hungry Viking burger, a simple burger, and a Cobb salad. All of our food was very, very good, and the service was amazing. We will absolutely be back here, and if you are in Poulsbo you should give this place a shot. Well this did not go well. We were there on a Sunday am. Loved the reviews and the place. We checked in with the hostess. 30-35 minutes. 40 minutes later I checked back, I was worried the pager was broken. She said 10-15 more. We waited 20. Went back in. A family walked in not happy. She seated them and it was clear they were recent arrivals. At this point I brought to her attention we had been waiting so long. She let me know she gave the table away. But she would seat us soon. 10 later she seated us. My granddaughter (3) was happy. We had a table. We ordered breakfast. It came 40 minutes later. Everyone was waiting excessive times for food.
