Still obsessed with their super flavorful, never dry or disappointing Pad Thai! Also the Mama's Tofu is so dang delicious! It's covered in a peanut sauce-like sweet tang with a mild kick. There aren't a ton of restaurants this far out that serve world cuisines outside Mexican/Texmex and Chinese/American food, and I wanted to have a great meal with my sister for her birthday. We chose Green Peapod as the only clear option in the market for something out of the ordinary. Holy crap I'm glad we did! The food here was phenomenal...we ordered edamame and spring rolls to start, which came out promptly and were perfect, and then got a few dishes to share: -chicken pad thai -chicken panang curry -beef and broccoli (this was a custom job) -basil chicken -fried calamari (for my niece, who was nervous to try Thai food) In short, this was some of the absolute best Thai food I've had. I was definitely concerned that with this restaurant not being in a major city, the reviews might have been skewed just because it's something different, but no, this was just damn good. The pad thai had plenty of flavor and not generic flavor like you'll sometimes find (although it wasn't served with citrus, which is something I've become accustomed to). The curry had a nice spice to it and a very robust flavor profile. The beef and broccoli, even though it's not an actual dish they serve, came out tasting like way more than just beef and broccoli; we were very, very satisfied. Finally, the basil chicken...it had the most spice of all, but it was covert and we loved it! (note: I do not eat seafood, so I can't speak to the calamari personally, but my niece at all of it). We had lots of leftovers, so I'd recommend getting 2 dishes to split between 3 people rather than the 1 dish per person, unless you want the leftovers. Also, you just can't beat McHenry County prices. The whole bill, including 3 soft drinks, was about $60. Not bad. To sum up: some of the best Thai food I've had tucked away in McHenry, IL. The basil fried rice is super fragrant and tasty. The chicken salad was a huge surprise at first, but I've grown to love the strong lime profile, it's a great summer dish. As a middle aged white male, I've eaten a lot of average tasting pad thai. From all over the place. I don't know a whole lot about Thai food, but I like what I like. Went to try Green Peepod for pickup. First of all, their website is easy to use and you can order the specific time to have your food ready. I was a few minutes late to pick up the food but it was ready when I got there and still warm when I got it home. Got two different soups and the pad thai with chicken. Start with the pad thai (note: I got zero spicy, believe it or not). From the first bite, it was fricking delicious. Like even without any spicy, it was immediately amazing to eat. Didn't try the soups yet because I ate too much pad thai. The soup is probably dope though. Highly recommend. read more

Deciding to try Green Peapod was probably the best decision we've made since living in the area. The short drive is very much worth it. My wife ALWAYS orders the Pad See Ew w/ chicken & shares with one of my daughters. I try to order differently every time. The appetizer we've fallen in love with are the pot stickers (very small order- FYI)! All the dishes that I've had, I've loved. Here are the ones I tried: Green Curry w/ beef (very sweet and beef was perfectly cooked), Panang Curry w/ chicken, Jungle Curry w/ chicken & Rama noodles (peanut sauce) w/ chicken. The only complaint I have is once I requested spicy (4/4) and it came without any spice and I had to add a bunch of the spices from the spice rack (dry and wet options). read more

My wife didn't care for her soup -- way too sweet after only one taste -- and when she asked to return the soup for another type, they rudely exclaimed that they don't refund or replace bad tasting meals. It took us a while to find the Green Peapod as it is set back from the street and at the back of a parking lot. We actually were seated in the Green Street Café which is next door before we discovered we were not in a Thai restaurant. The interior of the Green Peapod is large, airy, and pleasant. Relaxing atmosphere. While not bad, none of the food -- or at least our choices -- stood up to the Thai food we regularly have in the San Francisco Bay Area. The spring rolls were attractively arranged on the plate, but the wrappers were not the translucent kind we have come to expect at our favorite Thai restaurants. Also I was not too fond of the "omelet" which topped the rolls. My ginger chicken accompanied by a bowl of rice had very little ginger "kick" to it. DH ordered the drunken spaghetti and found it rather bland. In hindsight, he should have asked for spiciest version available. Several dessert choices but not my favorite coconut ice cream so we passed on dessert. All in all a decent meal, but just not what we seek in Thai food. read more

When we arrived Belle, our server greeted us with a smile and had our table ready with a reserved sign on it. She was awesome, organized and had a great personality. The food was delicious. Everyone enjoyed the food. From the crab rangoon, shrimp dumplings, crab meat fried rice, red curry with white rice and chicken thai rice. All of it was delicious. I love the building this place is in. It is set way back from Green street with a few nice trees out front. The inside is nicely decorated to (track lighting...whoo) We went for lunch. I had vegetable soup which was basically fresh vegetables in a hot broth. Good stuff, a little salty but definitely fresh and not too unhealthy. My entree was the "cashew" with rice. Pretty good, not too spicy though (awww, bummer). The food was quite good. The service was quite slow. So be sure you are not in a hurry when you go here. Also note that there were stairs at the entrance but no ramp so I don't think this is good for wheelchair access. read more
