Went to Griffs last night for dinner. Friday night and no reservations and we got a nice window table. I had a lovely glass of Pinot Gris and the Scallop dinner. The chef really knows how to cook fish. Always juicy and never overdone. Hubby had the Ciopinno and it was very tasty and had loads of fish. This place should be packed every night. Friend had told me about this restaurant. Tried for myself and was not sorry. I ad the clams and they were great. Friend had halibut nuggets and said they were cooked to perfection. The waitress , greeter and what ever other job she held was very accommodating and very good. read more

We stopped in for adult beverages and dinner. I had Lasagna, which was tasty. She had Fish & Chips. It was Cod, as they were out of Halibut. Home made potato chips. Chips were good, fish was oily...but of course... they are deep fried...duh. read more

The interior is just so-so, needs refreshing! Nice view from the windows. Once they bring the food, all that is forgotten. Dungeness crab appetizer is superb and the way they lightly bread and fry the seafood, is absolutely delicious! I don't think I have ever eaten better scallops. They had just run out of oysters, which was too bad. But we still really enjoyed our meal. Wine by the glass is very reasonable and was a great way to try local wines. read more

This place has the best prices for their food, The best clam chowder I have had in years, it is made from scratch, I also had the 3 piece fish and chips, let me tell you when they say lightly battered, amazing fresh fish, the best fish in chips, did I say fresh fish... We had visited Winchester Bay on previous occasions and decided to drive on down to have lunch at Griff's because the place looked " interesting " from our previous visits. Ordered the fish and calamari plate and a couple of crab cocktails. The plate consisted of very small portions, just three skinny slices of calamari and three very skinny slices of fish. It actually was pretty good but the portions seemed very skimpy for the price and I'm not a big eater. The crab cocktail was also pretty good, but again very small portion. read more

I was looking for fish and somewhere to enjoy some sun and coast before dark after a 12 hour shift. This is right on the bay, so beautiful inside pretty plain but functioninal, not fancy. I had the fish and prawns and this fish was so moist it was oozing juice and prawn great also. Apparently had some cake they could give me for desert, then she returned and said it was locked in the freezer and no one there had the key. She was very helpful telling me other places nearby I could get desert tho. Overall very good! read more

We pass through Winchester Bay often and this is absolutely the best seafood on the Oregon Coast!! Btw, we've been up and down the entire Oregon coast too many times to count. All the fresh seafood is cooked to order. If you like battered, it's light and delicious! Sautéed is unbelievable as well. Prices are lower than you can imagine. I could go on and on. We loved this place. We both had wonderful oysters cuz it is Nov and early for fresh crab. Really clean and cute inside. Will definitely will return maybe today. This is not my first review but I am also giving this place a 5. My hubby had lightly breaded cod and prawns and I had a shrimp Louie. Both were great. Lori served us and was really sweet. Winchester Bay is a working class real fishing town. Griff's is a restaurant, not for tourists, but for these locals. Basically, it is an overgrown fish shack on the docks trying to be just a little nice wirthout putting on airs and offending the locals. It was the end of a long day and we were looking for just this kind of "down home" place. We arrived late on a mid-week evening. Winchester as a town seemed dead. We went to Griff's andf it was packed. Had to wait for a table. The food was worth the wait. Ambience can best be described as "local color." Paper napkins on formica, plastic glasses. Wine list with a number of lower-end offerings. So we chose a cheap white and waited for our fish, locally caught. It was great. Cooked just as we had asked (pan grilled without breading). Came with fries and slaw -- nothing to exclaim over but in the good ordianry area. We had a waterside table and watched the birds and heard the fish jumping. For the middle of nowhere along the Oregon coast, a very pleasant evening. read more

Speaking as someone who's had the pleasure of sampling clam chowder all over the country, Griff's Clam Chowder was the absolute worst I've ever tasted. April R. was being generous when she said it was below average. That, or it's only gotten worse in the past year. Not only was it bland, it was much too thick, the potatoes were over cooked and the clams were far and few between. My wife's bowl of Cioppino was more of a thin bland soup than it was a stew and the fish was conspicuous by it's absence. It was really hard to understand all of this because my crab and cheese sandwich was very good and just loaded with fresh crab and the homemade coleslaw was excellent. Prices are reasonable, service is good, atmosphere is... Well, what do you expect? Its a fresh catch seafood joint on the bay! read more

Just stumbled upon this on our way down the coast and thought we'd try out the local oysters and some clam chowder. The raw oysters are from the local estuary - huge, meaty and mild but not flavorful. They were served shucked on a plate. Didn't have the salty tang of Chincoteague oysters from home, maybe because they came out of the mouth of a freshwater river. Homemade clam chowder was full of fresh clams and very good. read more

We ended up here while looking for a place to eat dinner. Ice cold beer, and served with a frozen mug!! Went down great after a long work day. The steak was good, and you get plenty of butter and sour cream for your baked potato. My coworkers had excellent food as well, including fish and chips, oysters, and grilled halibut. We just had dinner at Griff's and then, we had lunch the next day. The staff were friendly, a happy group. We had fresh Halibut and fish and chips for dinner and were very pleased with service and food was sooo good, reasonable priced as well. Then for lunch we had Halibut burger and a Salmon Burger which were so delicious, cooked delicately enough to still taste the sea salt. We will be back, their specials are daily based on the catch of the day and the menu is diversified enough to please everyone. Coloring books & crayons for the little people too. read more

We ate at Griff in June 2015, we're VERY impressed with our dinner. I had the fish and chips, my wife had the prawns and fish. Super fresh, very lightly batteted, even the chips were great, very good seasoning. Ala in all, a superior dinner. read more

Food was very good! Had the swordfish and a side of the clam chowder. Definitely some of the best chowder out there. Swordfish was right on the edge of being over cooked, but was still very tasty. Service was good, though a tad slow. All in all, a good experience. read more

The service was great, we ordered clam strips seems like we got the bottom of the bag. There was hardly any big pieces. We ordered the steak and prawns with salad and bake potato. The salad was good. We ordered our steak med rare and it came rare rare..the inside was a little cold.. I couldn't eat it but my husband did..the prawns were amazing and the potato was good. I had left the raw pieces on my plate that I couldn't eat. The waitress gave us a $5.00 discount because of the steak. Overall they have good food the steak had good flavor on the edge pieces. Next time I go I'm ordering the fisherman's platter..I will be back. We are humans and we do make mistakes. read more

We just finished lunch on their outdoor patio, with our two dogs. The calamari appetizer was excellent. I had fish and prawns; my husband had prawns and scallops. All fish were really top notch. The dogs loved it too- particularly the French fries. read more

Horrible! We waited over an hour for our food! My husband ordered a halibut steak that had no flavor, my clam chowder was salty and lukewarm. How does that take an hour? We really wanted to enjoy the food but everything was just bad. People were getting up and leaving because they were waiting to long for food. read more
