NEVER AGAIN!!! We walked in and immediately noticed a very outdated restaurant. The windows and carpets were filthy. My son had prawns and greasy scallops with bland coleslaw and fries. He only liked the prawns. My husband ate prawns and unknown fish that tasted like it was cooked before the order was placed then beaded and deep fried. He only liked his 2 small prawns... I wanted crab but they didn't have any so I settled for calamari (sliced steaks) they were horrible. I had a chef salad which was salad mix with tomato, black olives and ham and turkey lunch meat !!! YUCK. Oh and we ordered nasty clam chowder. The waitress was nice but never asked why we didn't eat much or if we wanted to-go boxes. The bill was $81.00 and I left $100. What a disappointment!!!! Loved this place. We were on our way to Bandon beach and stopped for lunch. It was fun looking out at the water. If the weather is nice they have outdoor seating as well. All 4 of our lunches were excellent prawns and scallops for me. The cole slaw is some of the best I have ever had. Wait staff was very friendly. read more

I'm camping here for a few months and stopped to get lunch after a long day shopping. I got prawns and fish with chips, coleslaw, and added garlic bread. It was pretty good. Oysrers were very marginal. Oyster shooter was not good. Fried oysters with fish and chips were not too my liking. Julie's French dip was pretty bad as well. She couldn't finish it. After a long day on the coast, this place hit the spot. We have been craving seafood and this was our last stop on the coast. We went because they promoted whole crab, but were sold out for the day. It was the last hour of service so I can't be mad. Our server was super nice and attentive. We ordered the clam chowder, steamed clams and the shrimp and scallop plate. The chowder was awesome and the clams in the chowder were so tender. The steamed clams came with a nice butter lemon sauce. For the shrimp and scallops, they were lightly breaded and cooked just right. My favorite were the scallops and the clam chowder. We would definitely come back next time we're in town. read more

We ended up here as a nearby restaurant which we found on Yelp was busy. Really enjoyed the fish and chips we got, which was one of the best I have eaten. Got a mix of cod and shrimp, both were lightly breaded but great amount of flavor in the breading and the fish. Fries were just how I like it. Also a great view by the window. read more

Griff's is old school with great river views, I really enjoyed the setting. It's probably more of a fish and chip place than a fresh seafood place. I ordered a $10-ish shrimp and crab cocktail, as fresh Dungeness crab is a plentiful local catch. It came with frozen snow crab, which I've never seen served in the entire region. It was so unappetizing that I didn't eat it. The oyster shooter was room temp. My daughter's fried appetizer was fine. read more

We're trying all the places in Winchester Bay to get the best and this isn't it. I will say they fried up our scallops and squid to masterpiece, but the buck stops there. Fried fish was way overcooked as were the shrimp. It was slow, so... I would have expected better. read more

A little disappointed in our meal. I had a Crab Louus, which was underwhelming. The crab was tasteless and dry, not fresh or moist at all. Maybe previously frozen? I would also suggest a whole hard boiled egg and some avocado for the price of the salad. read more

This place came highly recommended from other reviews on here. The folks running the place were friendly and pleasant when we arrived. Restaurant has solid views of the harbor. Good selection of seafood on the menu. I ordered the cioppino. It was fine but the seafood in it seemed to be small chunks of mostly fish I could not identify. No clams in shells, whole or part scallops or shrimp seemed to be present. Flavor was a little bland. Rest of the family ordered fish and chips. The fries were good but the apparent halibut was a bit rubbery. My other son ordered grilled cheese that was burned. Overall the cuisine here is average at best and our experience did not match the other previous reviews that were 4 or 5 stars on here. read more

Was in nearby Coos Bay and really wanted Dungeness crab, unfortunately there were no places in town with them because it wasn't crab season. Fortunately griffs had them so we drove there. Huge crabs, my relatives got crab Louies which came with generous portions of crab. I got the whole crab which I couldn't finish, it was delicious and priced well. The lone waitress was quick, friendly and attentive. The other reviews critiquing its cleanliness etc are asinine. It's a mom and pop joint on the water, what the heck did you expect, a Ruth's Chris???? If I was back home in pretentious D.C. I'd understand, but this is coastal oregon, check your ego at the door and suck it up. read more

Wife and I stopped here for lunch on our way back to PDX from Gold Beach. None of the local restaurants had anything above a 3.5 star review, so we stopped here not expecting too much. We had oyster shooters that were fresh, mild and huge. Excellent! They were from Charleston. I had the fish and chips which was also excellent. Lightly battered cod that was moist and flaky. The chips were lightly seasoned, crisp on the outside and creamy on the inside. Denise had the halibut fish and chips that she praised, but I wouldn't have traded it for the cod. Good cole slaw. Nothing pretentious, just the best lunch I've had in recent memory. Great view of the docks and headland to the south. Fresh chowder was great! I could taste the each veggie, nice view of boats in bay, great shrimp and big too. Try the crab, I shared the appetizer with my honey and we fought over it. Next time I will get my own. Sometimes the service is not exactly what us city folks are used to but generally, the food is worth the wait. read more

Excellent, fresh seafood with a fun kids menu. Most seats overlook the docks which isn't a spectacular view but still nice and far better than staring at a wall. Our favorite was the crab cocktail, a generous portion of Dungeness crab that for the price is worth the trip. We've never had better crab or fish and we used to live in San Francisco with frequent trips to Bodega Bay. The service was also great and very friendly. We can't wait to come back! read more

Just a great seafood place. Stopped into Griff's for lunch during a road trip down the coast. Honestly we ended up here because the place across the street was closed, but after eating here I'm so glad it was! I ordered the fish and chips with 2 shrimp meal, and I have to say it was the best I've had. The fish was cooked perfectly and only just lightly battered. And the fries! Generally I find that these get neglected in the fish and chip meal but Griffs were incredible. Perfectly crispy, hot and with a nice little bit of seasoning. The tartar sauce was also just perfect for the fish. To top it off the staff was very quick and friendly. Highly recommend this place if you're passing through and need a great lunch. read more

The food arrived quickly but..... Whole place smelled bad. Water glasses tasted like dish soap. Chowder tasted like gelatinous flour, not even a remotely seafood taste to it. I too have had the pleasure of trying chowder all over the country and I too award this the worst ever, I wouldnt even call it potato chowder, it could be called Flour Chowder. The fish and chips and the halibut are both FROZEN and TOUGH (at 12 and 16 a plate). Prices are outrageous for what you get (food and dining). I'm still wondering why we stayed at all. Usually I assume if the restaurant is on the water the seafood will be fresh (and since the sign says so too) but I was wrong. Go to the Crabby Cafe. I have never been but ended up at griffs twice only because it was full with a line at the crabby, probably for good reason. read more

This place was so good and fresh! Best claim chowder! The sour dough was toasted in butter and the cocktail was fresh. Beautiful view and we got to feed the bottom of the sour dough to the Seigels! Incredible food. Have been here twice this month. Both times we split the grilled captains platter, the fish was perfect. Stopped by Griffs for lunch today with my mom. I ordered the 2 pc fish lunch and she had the calamari steak. Horrible. The portions for $15 were very small. My fish was dry and absolutely no taste. My mom took 3 bites of the calamari steak and the was suddenly full. I will never, ever eat there again. The only thing keeping this place alive is the water view after that its all down hill. Great and fresh seafood! The chowder is amazing and the food always tastes fresh! The breading is a "secret recipe" as it should be! Very full of flavor! Wish I could've bought some to take home.
