I've hit this place every time I've been here, and have always had good food and good service. Same thing yesterday, with a shrimp Louie and a bowl of chowder for lunch. The chowder was good and meaty, unlike some I've had at other places. The shrimp Louie was excellent and more than filling. The service was exemplary. The view ... well, it's water-front. Not inspiring, but pleasant. Reading some past reviews, I'm not sure how some folks are so completely dissatisfied with the place. Maybe they just want to see their names in Yelp or maybe they're not satisfied with much of anything, or maybe they just had a bad day and want to take their attitude out on someone else. Went there because the ratings bit was very disappointing. We each ordered a cup of clam chowder and shared a 2 piece fish 3 prawns and French fries. The waitress kept apologizing the minute we walked in saying they were slammed. There were 12 people total in the restaurant. Our soup came out cold so we carried it back to have them nuke it or whatever after giving up on our waitress. She then brings the fish plate which looked like someone had eaten half of the soggy fries. The fish was two small soggy pieces and the "prawns" were medium sized shrimp. We heard them in the back arguing about the soup which still had not come out so we cancelled. Although the waitress was nice her demeanor changed upon hearing the soup wasn't hot. Update: Came back to Griff's for lunch. You know how things aren't as good as you remember them? Well, Griff's was even better than I remembered! I didn't remember how good & fresh the Cole slaw was or how many clams were in the chowder. We had the Fish & Chips because we were so hungry & they were delicious! Their fish is so fresh & they just dust it with flour & a super seasoning! We love it! Past: We had been driving along the coast looking for fresh seafood-not fried fish-which is what we found at most places. We came to Griff's and saw the seafood case and knew we found our spot. We had Rockfish last year -which was amazing. This year we had the clam strips-very good with big pieces of clam. The clam strips are also very good with big pieces of clam-not fresh but still good. The Rockfish were not in season-it was June 22 and was too early. The cod fish and chips-is lightly breaded and tender. Not what you think of when you hear fish and chips. It came with seasoned French fries were crisp on outside and soft inside and cole slaw was surprisingly light and not loaded down with mayo. The tartar sauce was light with dill and a small amount of dill pickle (which I read about before but didn't think I'd like but LOVE) Service has been good and friendly. The restaurant is decorated appropriately with sea faring items that were handmade by the owner-how cool is that! We will definitely be back soon!! read more

I was camping nearby at the Umpqua Lighthouse State Park and decided to take myself out for some seafood; found this place on yelp and thought I'd check it out. I sure wasn't disappointed - tasty clam chowder, perfectly fried scallops and shrimp, the french fries and coleslaw hit the spot. Nice view of the harbor, even though I was there before the busy tourist season began and there wasn't a lot of activity. Service was great, food was served without a long wait - I'd definitely go here again. I'd probably even order the scallops and shrimp again, too :) read more

Cute place, seems cramped when you step in the door, but dining room is nice with great window view of the water. Not your usual fish batter. The batter on the cod and shrimp was very light. The seafood tasted fresh and delicate, therefore the cocktail and tartar sauce wasn't really needed although both were tasty. I've been going to Griff's for years because I really enjoy their food. Service has been hit or miss but the food was always worth it... until today. Went in to get some food to go and ended up waiting for a few which I was fine with at first. Some people came in behind me and were helped immediately. I mentioned I was waiting to order take out and the woman told the guy in back that "This person wants to order take out" then looked back at me and said it would be a while. No thanks. It used to be decent. Side salad was old. The seafood pasta was mediocre at best and the tiniest shrimp cocktail I have ever seen. There were not many guests when we arrived, but the server was busy talking to the cook and it took her a while to get us seated. Then we sat while she was off chitchatting, I ordered a Pepsi, and my side salad and tiny shrimp cup came before I got my Pepsi. I told them I was splitting the pasta with my husband and they brought out just one bowl so then I had to ask for another bowl so I could split it and that took another few minutes, but they were quick to bring the check. Also, I actually took a sanitary wipes out of my purse to wipe off the table and the restaurant with chick full of flies I kept swatting them away. I never expected greatness out of any of the restaurants in Winchester Bay but this place used to be an OK place to go, but I can open a bag of salad and dump a couple onions on it and take some jarred Alfredo sauce with teeny tiny shrimp, and call it a meal . Like I said, I don't expect greatness from the restaurants in Winchester Bay, but I expect them to at least be edible I won't be going there again. read more

Absolutely phenomenal. We had planned to go to crabby's across the parking lot but as soon as we walked in the guy was insanely rude and we decided anything would be better than dealing with him. The service was gracious and delightful despite the large group that had come in just before us (and 2 other tables) but they stayed on it. The food was f'n perfect. We had the clam chowder and the captains plate. The chowder was everything you want and expect from chowder. The captains plate was a marvelous upgrade from what we expected. Everything was lightly breaded instead of the usual heavy greasy business that you get from most seafood restaurants. The one star is for the oysters. They say they have shooters but they come out on platter. Not even a half shell. That was odd. They were fresh. That's the one star. We tried the chowder... DON'T. It's grool. Literally. I hate leaving reviews like this but pass this place up. Do yourself a favor. The "chowder" tasted rotten, I had a few bites and that was it and almost instantly I was feeling sick. When I got home. The toilet was calling me name. Great place for a Crab cocktail! Holy crab- if you like chunks of fresh crab you NEED to eat here. Unbelievable portions. Chowder is great too. The Fried Clams are perfectly cooked and big. The Crab Melt is good. The Halibut Nuggets were just right and not greasy. The Halibut Burger was great. We are here foe almost three weeks so we will be back. Service was great seating us, tended to our needs and friendly. Loved the place. We ate at the one oIn Gold Beach also, and both are great. Save room for fresh pie too. read more
