We've been here many times. Service is usually excellent, as is the food. Open only for later afternoon /evening, and it is a 21 and up establishment. Meats are locally sourced, so there may be a bit of a sticker shock for some. My favorite sandwich here (the backyard BBQ) is about 14.00, but well worth it. If the soup sounds good on the day you visit, be sure to try it. They have a varied soup menu that has been good each time I've ordered it. I've only had a few items off the drink menu, but I've always liked what I've ordered. Be advised: this is not in any way a "quick bite" kind of place. Located in downtown Greenfield, Indiana, Griggby's is a small town restaurant with a bit of a twist. It has that small town atmosphere where everyone seems to know everyone else, but the food is decidedly not small town--I'd call it a bit upscale. Much, of not all of their food, seems to be farm to table, and the prices reflect that. I wouldn't go so far as to call it expensive, but it is upscale and the prices do reflect that. We started with an order of wings to share as an appetizer, and they were above average. Nothing moved them to stellar, but the flavor was good, both the wings and buffalo sauce. I'm a sucker for a good fried bologna sandwich, and this one mentioned thick cut bologna, so that's what I ordered. I'll first say that the flavor was very good indeed, but it was the thinnest thick cut bologna I've ever seen. Still, it was a good sandwich, but I would have preferred a thicker cut of bologna, instead of two separate thin slices stacked on top of each other. My wife ordered a steak and it was quite good. Service was also quite good. Overall, I think in my mind a 3.5 review is a bit more accurate for the food, but service pushed it up to a solid 4 rating. read more

We were not impressed by the food here. The cheese curds were not impressive. The peanut butter burger barely had any PB. Fries were decent. The beef tips were served over minute rice and barely had enough glaze. Maybe we just got the wrong items on the menu, but I doubt we will be back for the prices. There was something cool about the look of this place as I walked around the outdoor patio from the parking lot on the side of the building. It looks rather plain on the side, but from the front, it has a look that says "come inside and stay awhile." So, I did. The building is shotgun style, so it doesn't have a large seating option as you walk in. Fortunately, they have additional upstairs seating and when weather permits, plenty of outdoor seating as well. I grabbed a spot right as I came in the door at the boot end of the L-shaped bar. I was promptly greeted and offered a menu and water. I passed on the water and went with a Sun King instead. My plan for what I was going to order (based upon the website) was thrown out because they are undergoing a migration to some new items. So, I opted to start with a House salad with vinaigrette dressing and an order (1# size) of chicken wings with Asian BBQ sauce. The salad came out first and had sweet croutons to go with the salad. Very tasty! The wings came soon after and had a spicy heat in the Asian BBQ. Some of the wings were a little chewy, but generally had a tangy flavor. I knew I had a bigger appetite this evening, so I placed an order for the trio of Pulled pork sliders. The slider pork was the most moist I have had. I almost had concluded that all pulled pork would be served dry. Not so here! Even without adding the additional BBQ sauce, the sandwich was full of flavor and the sandwich had a nice chew. The Yelp reviews were in - I needed to try this place! So when I randomly found myself in Greenfield one weeknight evening, I had to visit. No trouble finding a seat after 8 p.m., and we were promptly waited on. Sadly, here's my 5-star pitfall: All the reviews mentioned wonderful cocktails..."We're trying to move away from cocktails and no longer offer a cocktail list," said the waitress. "What!? But you have a wall of liquor, why?!" "We're trying to be more beer and wine," she said. Aside from the crushing cocktail blow, the pulled pork nachos and pork shoulder tacos were amazing. I was so excited that my husband agreed to drive to Greenfield for dinner on Friday night! I wanted to see if the hype was for real. This place is just cool on the inside. Nice warm wood, kind of industrial but laid back. It just says "gastropub". The service was friendly and prompt, but I admit I got a little impatient when a party of 6 was seated next to us and things slowed down a bit, but that's probably because I was a bit hangry. Speaking of seating though, things are a bit tight if you sit at a table downstairs. I didn't really like the fact that our server would squeeze in between tables to take orders, meaning his derriere was literally right up against our table at table height. This is why I'm not giving them 5 stars. I think next time we'll sit at the bar or on the patio (even though it just faces the next building and the parking area). Our food was really good though. We started with the beer soaked chili cheese fries because I had to after seeing all the reviews and pictures! They were as advertised! I loved the queso and cilantro on top since that sets them apart from other similar dishes and gives it a southwest kick. I didn't think I'd like fries that were soaked in beer because who likes soggy fries? Oddly though, they don't end up soggy because who would let that much time pass when food like that is sitting in front of you? The sliders had house-made pickles on them which were fantastic! The beef was cooked to about medium well which is perfect so they didn't dry out. My husband really enjoyed his Thai pork skewers. The cocktails were very tasty and use local spirits so I was all over that! I was lucky enough to land the street parking spot directly in front of the door, but there is parking around the side and back of the building. The food and drinks are seasonal and fresh, which is perfect for my tastes. The food is obviously chef centered, but that's a good thing here. The gentleman bartender claims he doesn't drink, but he is a wizard at mixing up the best drinks I've ever had. In fact, I don't know if I would love this place so much if he wasn't working. Wow! Wow! The truth is that we came here to spy or scout. We wanted to see and try for ourselves what might be coming to Irvington. Well now that I know, I'm all messed up! I am riddled with anticipation and excitement. If what comes to the Irv is half as good as Greenfield, we are in for a new level of culinary mastery! This gastropub has a warm inviting feeling. I feel a little bit like I'm walking into an English pub. Then I get inside, and I feel modern, yet comfortable with the exposed brick and small room feel. Then I feel close to everything like I'm part of a neighborly get together. The staff was friendly and took the time to talk. Just like the poem that is its namesake. The service was exceptional, and the food was incredible! They have a full list of brews and craft cocktails that match my criteria, which is to say they pack a punch. We had Asian BBQ wings that made me happy in every way. #1 the wings were cooked just right with just the right amount of sticky coating. #2 you can choose the amount you want: 1/2 pound, pound, etc. #3 comes with carrots, celery, and a yummy blue cheese that is creamy and chunky in one! We had pork skewers-like their version of sati babi. They were cooked to perfection. Just the right amount of marinade and not dry! It was served with delicious rice and a fabulous Asian slaw that was tangy but not overpowering. We also had a plate of beer soaked chili cheese fries. This is just what the name implies and is a generous serving of fries typed with chili, a white cheese, and I believe the beer used is Sun King Wee Mac. This was a soft opening, so I'm usually prepared for some newbie issues. I'm hard pressed to pick out anything wrong. I guess that they were out of dessert would be my only whine. Beer soaked fries were good but not as good as the fries at the mug with the pork and slaw on them. They had some decent beers on tap. The house cocktails looked like something I'd be interested in. Very happy to have a spot like this in greenfield. At this point I'd have to say I'd rather drive to Black Acre in Irvington to grab a sandwich and a beer though. My long awaited stop at Griggsby's finally happened, and it was worth the hype - for now. We just planned on it being our stop for hors d'ouvers so my review is biased. The carnitas tacos - the meat was surprisingly very greasy but wow, they were tasty. In my culinary wisdom there was some sort of mustard sauce on them, I wouldn't have expected but man it worked. (Considering this was my 3rd day of tacos in a row - I happened to go 4 days in a row of tacos this week - I'd consider myself a bit of a taco-enthusiast.) Others in group ordered salads, one said it was great the other mentioned to only do a house or vinaigrette with the salad, they ordered (I'm guessing ranch) and said it would have been better with different dressing. Pulled pork nachos came recommended from the staff and they were indeed delicious. Beer selection was great, bartender was helpful and friendly. However, if the actual bartender is not presently standing behind the bar (i.e. he or she is on break) I'd advice holding off on ordering a mixed drink until he or she is back. I witnessed (perhaps the manager and bar back) attempt to make a Long Island and it appeared they had no idea what they were doing. Both I and the person I was next to at the bar, were baffled as to why they wouldn't just wait a few minutes for the bartender to make it properly - or if they can't wait, why they didn't look the recipe up on google. Definitely my favorite place to eat in Greenfield! It seems we're here almost every week, and their $3 craft beer specials on Tuesday nights are a draw. They rotate the selection of beers (some local, some regional), so there is almost always something new to try. They offer excellent farm-to-table food, but a limited menu. Being a pescatarian, there aren't a lot of options for me, but everything I've tried has been very good. A couple of highlights have been the shrimp scampi and the trout. I have also heard nothing but good reviews from my dinner companions who eat meat - the pork chops, in particular, were a hit. The servers are very friendly, but service was quite slow on a couple of occasions (not recently though). Love the building and the atmosphere. I have been wanting forever to try this place and i have never been so disappointed. We were greeted and it started great. The place was pretty empty in the bar. Our server informed us they are completely out of steaks and pork chops...the main focus of all their entrees except the chicken. So we were going to settle for just some apps. We got 3 to they, nachos and pretzels were great but the eggs were dried out, bland and whoever peeled them lost half of the egg in the process....it was about 9p and the tell us they are closing the kitchen. We checked before coming to see hours and it is open till 11? So we ordered a burger and patty melt. The burger was charred and tasted like burnt grease - fries were good. The patty melt, also charred, would of been good if not for that. It was also had any dressing - by this point, it's maybe 940 and when asking the server for more dressing for the sandwich she said she already put her sauces away. It was such poor service to be rushed along for a place that closes at 11. She came about 950 for last call on drink, and i wasnt going to order a drink by my friend wanted to and we put it in with a heavy sigh from the server, our checks and glares while we sat to finish it. read more

Take my advice and make the drive out to this place. We live on the Northeast side of Indianapolis and it was a solid 30 minute drive, but oh so worth it! It's a small place, but they do have a side patio for outdoor seating during the warmer months. The upstairs seems to have more seating than the main floor, but the ambiance is better downstairs. We choose upstairs only because the main floor was full. We were the only ones up there. They do have 3 televisions on the wall, but none of them had sound and no music was playing so it was a little strange, but not a big deal. The server did turn on the music upstairs about halfway through our meal, so that was nice. To start, we ordered a cocktail called Wild Flower - delicious. Sweet, but not too sweet, and not too strong. It's made with Creme de Violet liqueur which makes it nicely fragrant and gives it a slight violet color. My BF and I both enjoyed it. We had the fried pickles for an appetizer - delicious. Enough for two of us to share, but it's not a lot by any means. We ordered the Philly steak and cheese sandwich as our entree - out of this world delicious! It comes with a side of chips, but we wanted to try as much as we could on their menu so we subbed the mac & cheese side for a $3 upcharge. Again - delish! Had dinner there last night, and we WAITED. Got a table immediately, but service was very slow. Once we ordered, we were warned that it would be at least 30 minutes because the kitchen was so backed up. I mean, I'm glad she warned us, but seriously? I wish we'd ordered an app or had something to snack on, because by the time the food finally arrived we were all starving. I will say the food was good. I had a 'special', the ancho chile flank steak over rice, which tasted like average to decent Mexican.... kinda bland and dry, but not bad. My husband had the bone-in porkchop and I had serious food envy. (Read: I stole lots of bites of it). It was so good, and will definitely be what I order next time we venture that way. I wanted to like this place. I really did. But it just didn't work for me. We are locals. We LOVE The Mug, so we were really looking forward to Griggsby's opening. All the buzz was about it being an upscale steakhouse. Cool. Their Facebook page looked enticing as well. But the reality was pretty disappointing. We stopped by on a Sunday night. It wasn't too busy, but the close proximity of the tables inside (we preferred not to eat out on the patio, which is really just a parking lot, where we'd have been breathing all the exhaust from the cars on 40 sitting at the stoplight) mean that we were overwhelmed with the VERY loud group next to us. That's not GS's fault. These people were just loud. But there's not many tables inside, and they ARE close together. We were surprised at the minimal menu. Only one steak on it, and the accoutrements (grilled watermelon and greens) didn't appeal. There just wasn't much in the way of filling dinner choices. We shared a Scotch egg -- hubby is Scottish, so it's a favorite. It came with two sauces, which he said were good, but there wasn't enough. My part of the egg was good, but kind of dry. We shared a grilled Caesar salad which was ok, but just not as flavorful as you'd expect. Hubby got the pork skewers as his "dinner". One was dry, the other not so much, but he said they lacked flavor. The rice cake was OK, but nothing special. I got the burger with Gruyere cheese. It was on a Texas Toast kind of bread that completely overwhelmed it. The server was sweet and attentive, but didn't ask how I wanted it, so it came out rather dry. I didn't finish it. Again, rather bland, which seemed to be a theme. We ended up getting dessert, just to see how it was. I ordered the blueberry crumble -- I'm a sucker for anything berry. The whipped cream was melted because of how warm it was, so it was kind of a waste to have it on there at all. But the flavor was SO INCREDIBLY SOUR that my husband didn't eat past a second bite, and I had trouble with it as well. Mind you - I LOVE berries. This was just plain not good. Our bill was $58 (not including tip), which is rather pricy for the amount of food and the quality. The beer selection was great. The cocktail list is interesting. The water glasses are more like a tiny juice glass -- weird. And oddly enough, they don't want you entering from the street. You have to enter from the side door off the parking lot. I guess I see why (the way it's configured inside) but it's not very user friendly. On the flip side, there's a Pokestop right across the street, so I was able to get Pokeballs all through dinner -- the one saving grace of the whole thing. LOL Friendly staff and the fact that I'm a local is the only reason I gave it two stars. We won't be back. I hope they succeed, but we'll go down to The Mug from now on. My husband and I finally got to try this place. I really liked it! (My husband is a bit harder to please. :-)) The atmosphere is great, and food is great, and the service is great. There was a slight hiccup with our order, but our server was right on it and very apologetic. Yes, it's a bit on the pricey side, but with a gastropub, you're really paying for more than just the food. And who can be too upset with paying a bit more for local fare? We both had a drink. I had the "wildflower" while my husband had an Old Fashioned. He orders the latter wherever we go, and we both believed it was one of the best we've had. Almost too smooth. ;-) My "wildflower" was also very good; I didn't find it to be too watered down. We had the pulled pork nachos and the pork chop for dinner. Both were excellent, and even though the nachos are an appetizer, they were definitely big enough for a meal. The gooey chocolate was the perfect ending. I'm looking forward to going back! read more
