The food here is okay, a bit on the salty side. However it can be quite pricy for the kind of material they offer. There were two of us and we only ordered one fish (which was so small, we couldnt believe we had finished it and kept digging) and 3-4 side dishes to be cooked with it (such as cabbage, rice cake which they only gave us around 8 pieces) an appetizer, and the price came out to be around $100! I felt we barely ate much thats worth the price. Everything cooked inside was cheap items such as mushroom, potatoes, and sea weed. And did i mention the amt of fish in it is negligible. My parents in law wanted to take us out for lunch for our birthdays. We chose Grill Master so we could check out a new place in Flushing. The decor is definitely fancy and unique with stately wide chairs, a huge golden dragon in the entrance, a coy fish pond, and more. (also a gold blingy sink in the restroom! lol) The food was very good. We chose the barramundi fish since it has the least bones and two sauces: garlic oil and traditional Sichuan. Our four sides were clear noodles, corn, ear mushroom and lotus root. (It's kinda like a new version of hot pot where the central grills are long and rectangular, and everything is cooked already so you just reheat it) We thoroughly enjoyed the fish. It was a very large fish for 4 people to share and at the end nobody wanted to eat anymore fish hah - even though it was tender and cooked just right. The sauces were also incredibly flavorful and the clear noodles soaked it all up. Appetizers were delicious too. The sauce from the bullfrog was DELICIOUS. Lamb skewers were well seasoned and so juicy we ordered a second one. Okra in garlic sauce was also good. We would come back again for the bullfrog, lamb skewers, and sides. We'd skip the fish unless we come with more than 4 people to help eat :P read more

It's not complicated, you pick your fish, you pick your sauce, you pick your toppings and then you eat! At Grill Master, they take one of four types of fish and grill them over an open fire and then place it into a pot with simmer sauce, ranging from your simple and savory to the hot mala burn your face off sauces. When simple things are done right, like cooking fish so the skin is crispy and charred on the edge but the meat inside stays moist, you can find nothing better except when you add some Sichuan sauce and enjoy that delicious burn. The food quality was very good. The lamb skewers were meaty, juicy and tender. I would advise not to get the Kobe beef, as the meat was too rough and chewy. I wouldn't ever think Kobe beef would be that chewy in texture. The pan fried mini bun was good and crispy, always a hit with the family. The reason why they don't get a full five stars is because the overall price isn't super high, but it isn't cheap either, their beef isn't what I would imagine to be Kobe beef, and the container that is used to carry the fish out, although it looks fancy and very visually appealing, the container isn't very deep and only provides a shallow layer of sauce. It was sufficient to keep the fish covered but it goes quick when you're eating. I still like it enough to go back because of the good quality of fish. read more

I first had this type of grilled fish in 2019 in Beijing, China. It was one of my favorite casual foods to eat and it was very trendy during the time. I was very happy to see a restaurant offering the same type of food in Flushing. I came here with one other person and ordered the quarry fish with traditional sichuan broth plus potato, rice cake, crab stick, and soybean skin. The flavors were great and extremely authentic to what I tasted in China. Additionally, the portion size was just enough for two people. The only downside to this meal was the price, where it ended up being a little more than 60 dollars for the meal (before tip). If not for the price, this would definitely be a regular spot for me. I would definitely recommend eating the fish with a bowl of rice(its super saucy) and adding a lot of toppings/sides with the fish. Lastly, the atmosphere and decor of the restaurant is extremely beautiful. There was a TV ad for this restaurant on the Chinese channels that my mom loves to watch so she dragged us all there the first chance she could get. The TV ad promoted that the owner went to Sichuan and tried over 100 different grilled fish dishes before he felt confident enough to start making his own. Who can say no to that? The décor was very upscale given that it's situated in a small mall complex. From the outside you don't expect to see such fine details. The owners definitely put a lot of painstaking effort to ensure that customers will be transported to another destination once inside. We were greeted right away and felt taken care of throughout our meal. We started off by ordered a couple of cold vegetable appetizers. We then ordered the lamb kababs and their signature grilled fish (lamb and fish Chinese characters combined spell out the word "umami"). Aside from the lamb kababs, which were really on point, everything had a slight tangy taste to it which I absolutely love. It's very rare for restaurants to utilize that flavor so it was a very pleasant change! It's hard to mask any unsavory flavors with tangy, so I'm pretty confident everything was very fresh. We were also impressed by the deep steel dragon platter used to serve the fish. A definite photo opportunity! We'd definitely like to frequent as much as possible if it wasn't for the pretty steep price point for the area. Their signature grill fish dishes start at about $40-$60, depending on the fish, and if you want to add any other ingredients other than the fish, it's an extra charge.
