I've always been a fan of Grill Smith. My PIC and I recently visited the Clearwater location for a small Christmas gathering. Our party was set up in the private room tucked away in the back. We had a special full course menu with amazing choices, most of which were gluten-free. Our table shared the Filet Tip Egg Rolls (filet, shiitake mushrooms, scallions, bleu cheese, caramelized onion with creamy horseradish & soy sauce) -Not GF but I was able to try the inside of it. Delish! My salad was the Napa Valley (romaine, gorgonzola, dried cranberries, candied walnuts, roma tomato with raspberry balsamic vinaigrette) -without the candied walnuts. Still fab. Our dinners were: Port Wine Filet Mignon (center-cut tenderloin, fire-grilled, port wine reduction with mashed potatoes and seasonal veggies) and Oak Barrel Salmon (Chilean salmon, honey-bourbon cracked pepper glaze, fresh seasonal veggies). We came in shortly after they opened, but they filled up quickly so I can imagine having to wait during peak meal times. For our apps, I opted for the snack size of the pretzels; I always get a pretzel when it's on the menu & this certainly didn't disappoint. Not a massive hanging one, but instead smaller, personal sized pretzels with a delicious cheese dip! My mom got the filet egg roll; she enjoyed it a lot, but it came out piping hot so her first bite in ended up burning her tongue. For our meals, she got the caprese salad and I went for the lemon feta chicken. The sauce on this chicken was so good I was scraping it up with my fork! My mom really enjoyed the fresh heirloom tomato'es & said the burrata was some of the best she's had. We didn't get any cocktails or desserts this time, but they did have a great selection for both, including a creme brûlée that nearly lured us in. I've been to Grillsmith a few times and have had a great experience each time. We went on a Tuesday and bottles of wine were half off. We started with the Spicy Thai Shrimp and they were very flavorful and served with a perfect pairing Thai dipping sauce. Went for appetizers on Wednesday, 9/10. Had a 6:15 reservation for 2 and requested a booth.only had to wait about 5 minutes. Very busy, as usual, but especially busy due to Wednesdays happy hour appetizers and drinks all day! A good deal. Very loud though. We shared a very yummy side caesar salad, which they kindly put in 2 separate plates. Very tasty salad, great dressing, nicely slivered Parmesan, and croutons. Along w the breadsticks, which will never live up to replacing their former crispy chips they used to offer! Still good. Shared the buffalo wings, and the chicken Gorgonzola flatbread. Wings very tasty but have definitely "shrunk" in size since we last had them a number of years ago. We each had a piece of the flatbread, but were full, so brought rest home for dinner tonight! Service has consistently been disappointing. Regularly dine and order take out on a weekly basis. Last 3 take out they have not come to bring your order out. Seems they forget about it and your order is cold. If they just say to come in and pick up it would be no problem. Instead they have you wait outside while they forget about bringing you your order. Went on a Monday around 530 and the place was already getting pretty busy. We sat at the community table in the bar area. They have amazing happy hour small bites and drinks from 4-7. It's a GREAT deal. We ordered the pretzels and chicken flatbread from the HH menu and it did not disappoint. We all had different cocktails from the HH menu. All were very good but the service was slow. Our waitress Kiera was attentive accommodating and pleasant. You know those online dates that look good in pictures but when they show up you find out you have been catfished? That's how it feels reading the menu vs the food that was received at Grillsmith. My experience was a disappointment from beginning to end. I try to be fair in my reviews, but I'm struggling to find any positives. The food in both taste and appearance had a bag and box vibe while the restaurant was masquerading as being something of a higher quality. Although with that said, I have actually had better food at Chili's The prices are high for the quality and quantity that you receive and the service was very slow. When returning an item that was inedible, I would expect the replacement meal to be put in as a priority ticket but that took another 20-25 minutes and when it finally came out after the rest of the table had finished, the food was equally disappointing. In the end some food was never eaten and we just left. The Margherita Flatbread was the worst I've ever tasted. Instead of tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella and Basil, it came out with processed cheese only, a gross seasoning, and sliced tomatoes on top! I don't know what that is but don't call it Margherita. This flatbread was inedible. The replacement meal upon server recommendation was chicken tenders. The tenders were heavily fried instead of a traditional breading and had no flavor except canola oil and a lot of it. The fries were also burnt. The shrimp and grits had good flavor but the plate was 80% sauce. Where's the food? Where's the grits? $15 for 1/4 cup of bland grits that had zero cheese flavor and 5 small shrimp, a meal does not make. I will say the Sangria was good but nothing to write home about. It didn't taste house made. But it did taste like one of the sangrias I love at Total Wine. Service : this was extremely slow and all I wanted to do was get out of there. Our server while accommodating, responded with a bit of an attitude or disbelief at our experience. I regret the time and money I spent at this establishment and will not be returning. read more

She took my order noting that I didn't want tomatoes in the sandwich and the slaw on the side. When I got home and opened my order, I was instantly disappointed. There was a tomato on the sandwich which had gotten all over my crab and shrimp burger and not to mention the bread. Then there was a slaw topping with onions which I am allergic to and specifically asked that it be put on the side just in case. As if that wasn't bad enough, the cook burnt the crab cake and ruined my crab and shrimp burger paddy. I could hardly taste anything but the breaded part which was burnt. I stopped by to treat myself because I was so hungry and paid much more for lunch than I planned to. I quickly regretted my decision. Have always enjoyed my meal at Grillsmith. Tonight, however, I ordered the Oak Barrel Salmon with Jasmine rice and Broccoli. This salmon is my go-to at Grillsmith. It appears the tasty rice - used to be a sort of rice pilaf with sesame seeds - has been replaced with plain jasmine rice. Boring! That rice pilaf was SO good! The sesame added an extra layer of flavor. Now gone. The broccoli was to come with a dusting of parmesan and black pepper. I asked to leave the pepper off but it seems that meant no parm either. What gives? Am I too demanding? Don't get me wrong - the food was still pretty good. Just want the food and service to be up to what I expected. After tip $36.89. My glass of wine was comped due to waiting 15 minutes after being seated for someone to show up at the table. A nice gesture. read more
