We have been to this location numerous times. Each time we go, it is for a promotion due to the exceptionally long wait time (even with empty tables available). The only thing they do not tell you is that you have to have have a flyer for the promotion or they won't give it to you. The first experience we had with this was our school spirit night. They refused to credit our order because we didn't have the flyer. It was a similar situation with numerous other families, resulting in a very low number for a "fundraiser". Today was supposed to be $2 margaritas. But because I couldn't find the email, the promotion was denied. The waitress was rushed and borderline rude. We will not be back as the food isn't good enough for the amount charged and the service is subpar, at best. If it wouldn't have been for our extended wait to get a seat and our hungry toddler, we would have eaten elsewhere this evening. read more

I used to like going here for dinner, really enjoyed the margaritas. Maybe it was an off day, but I think it's either poor management or poor training. First our table was filthy, you could tell someone tried to half ass wipe it down with a wet, dirty rag, but didn't really clean it. Then we waited a long time before a waiter came to our table. He apologized, said a there was a shift change. I gave him our drink order, & kindly asked if we could get someone to clean the table. That was done pretty quickly, in fact our waiter was spectacular, he was the only good experience of this visit & the only reason there are 2 stars vs 1. The Suave agave margaritas came out, they did not taste like they normally do, tasted like crappy tequila today, but the Reposado they normally use. Then I opened my napkin, and the silverware was dirty. So dirty the knife had food chunks still stuck to it. I had the waiter bring another setup, & tried to move past this horrible beginning. Then the food came, seriously sub par. I couldn't even eat half, didn't want to take it to go. I may go back one day, maybe a year from now, time for them to get their act together again. This place changed in the last year. I don't know what happened but the turnover of staff has been inconsistent. The menu has changed with cheaper items and my husband witnessed the kitchen staff pulling out frozen pre-made food. Why change a good thing when it's better quality? For example, the Mahi- Mahi fish is better quality than having Tilapia which is farmed and comes in frozen. Yuk. You're paying the same price for cheaper quality and Gringo's is on the pricey side. The food used to be made fresh, but ever since the manager changed everything has gone down hill, including food presentation. I've ordered take out and twice they forgot to add avocado to the salad, which is included. The wait staff always seem to be perplexed and totally overwhelmed. It takes so long for the food to arrive to the table, and when it does it is cold. We found another Mexican restaurant and we won't be going back to Gringo's. Very disappointed. read more

We used to eat here at least once a week, sometimes twice. The last few times we have received terrible service. The food was still great, but the wait staff is slow and unfocused in customer service. Our waitress delivered nothing except water when we had to ask because she did not notice the empty glasses. She has not come to the table. Then, I had a birthday coupon that couldn't be used because of the way it prints. No problem. Did she even say so sorry and happy birthday?? Not a chance. Another disappointing night at Gringo's. It has been a hit or miss experience for us. Tonight- miss. Service was awful, 30 mins to receive drinks, 50 mins before order was taken, appetizer was late and cold, drinks were never refilled despite repeated requests, no utensils without going to hostess stand, and fish tacos were inedible. And when I commented on my meal...I was told that they were fresh when they left the kitchen despite demonstrating that I could not tear the tortilla for our waiter Daniel. Quite a disappointment. Went here while visiting our kids/grandkid. The restaurant is huge. It was a Saturday night so the wait for a table was 20 minutes and then after ordering it seemed to take at least 30 minutes before the food arrived. The place was filled with families with lots of kids, so if you like more quiet non-kid places, I'd pass on this one. I can't recommend the margaritas, they're way to sweet for me. My wife had the Chicken Cabo Salad w/margarita vinaigrette which she gave two thumbs up. I had the San Antonio Burrito w/beef fajita filling. Portion size was big. It was good but I thought the beef was cut too small, it was it very tiny cubes. Our kids enjoyed the beef fajitas for two and our granddaughter really liked the free, serve yourself ice cream cone after her mac & cheese. All-in-all this is a good place to go, especially with kids. read more

NOT IMPRESSED! I took my 2 boys to lunch. It was not all that! I don't understand why it gets so packed in the evenings and weekends. The food is not good. It's not mexican, but like it says on the building Tex-mex. Rice does not look mexican at all. I asked for water and it tasted bad, completely tap not filtered at all. The only thing that was good was the pico de gallo, slice of avocado, and guacamole. I have to say i am hispanic and i can cook better food than that. But i have also gone to good mexican restaurants with really good tasting food. I gave Gringo's four tries and each time I was more disappointed. The first time was for a large family get together. We called ahead, gave the number of people (about 15) and asked for a table. The response was "no problem" could we arrive around 5 before the dinner crowd? So we did ....and waited for over an hour for a table. The food was ok. Next time was a take out. Chicken fajitas for 4and a burrito. When I picked up the order I told them it didn't look right. They insisted it was. I went to my car and checked - there was no chicken! Another time there were no tortillas. And finally, the time that has prevented me from ever returning - the chicken was not chicken breast, but some kind of a pressed chicken breast - and it was slimy. The wait time is ridiculous! The food is not worth it but the playground is what kept us coming back. For the last two weeks, we went for the sake of our kids but we won't be back! The hostesses are all high school kids who have no clue how to manage a two page wait list, especially for a party of 6-8. As you sit and wait, you are looking at a bunch of empty tables and you say why can't a high school student or manager figure out simple math - 4 top + 4 top = 8 top? Instead, they will seat another full page of 2 and 4 tops before you have to stand at the hostess stand and elevate the situation with a manager to get seated. I was a hostess a long time ago in a much busier chain and that would have never happened! The green sauce is the best thing they have going but if you drink too much while you are waiting for an hour, you may not even taste or remember the food! Maybe that is their agenda. Well we visited your Tex Mex location yesterday evening (sat 4/12/2014) and it was busy as usual....good thing....we elected to sit at the bar instead of waiting for a table and I am glad we did. We met one of your bartenders and she was very delightful and entertaining. Her name is Dy. Her personality had the entire end of the bar engaged in conversation with her and together and she also invited us to try a new margarita that she claimed to create. I will let her tell you about it because I think it is a smash and it blows away a typical margarita however it is not a new or more tequila.....but an added ingredient. Any way we enjoyed ourselves with a delicious shrimp dish and good company for over 30 minutes before the operations manager stopped by to see us, say hi and introduce himself. I particularly like when the manager of a business takes the time to meet and greet his clients. He will impress me when he does it next time and remembers me and by the third time remembers my name. I have a small place in my subdivision that made it a point to know all of his regulars with in six months and now know everyone that walks there his door. This managers name is Perry Andersson, very like able guy, a 1000% better than the last manager I met there by the name of Brandon Johnson. That young man has some growing and learning to do. Nice guy but not ready to be the manager of a place I want to spend time. Enough about that. Every time my boyfriend visits from out of town we eat here! He loves this place so we make the effort to come here once each time he visits. We do not have to wait long if its super busy since we usually go early before the rush. Service is good enough. Not spectacular but it isn't terrible either. Food is delicious. Plenty of salsa and chips before your meal. Alcoholic drinks vary from the bartender making them. One time it was perfect the other time it was a little too strong for me so it depends. The server: took forever and even stopped to flirt with a girl co worker on her break. He didn't do a good job of clearing the table, for example he would bring a refill and leave an empty cup. If it got crowded for the next refill, he would remove only one cup. The Food: The queso got thick quickly, they were also served with both pickled and raw jalapenos. We didn't touch the raw so asked for a little more pickled, then were charged for them. The enchiladas were horrible. You just taste corn tortilla and some lousy watered down wolf brand chili sauce. My dad commented the rice was the only good thing about his enchilada plate...then said that's bad if that's the only thing you like is the rice. Conclusion: I would never come back here, even if they offered us a free meal I wouldn't accept it. I'd tell them to get some cooking lessons. I had the BEST restaurant experience EVER!!!!! MS. Kathy was my server, Brandon was the manager. As soon Ms. Kathy heard that I am DEATHLY allergic to jalapeños she started reviewing my order informing me of what i needed to change. Brandon also came right to the table and introduced himself. Even asked if i had my medications on me just in case. He personally oversaw every step of the prep and cooking of my meal. He went above and beyond to make sure there wasn't even a remote chance for cross contamination. Ms. Kathy and Brandon made me feel like an honored guest and not a picky pain that just messed up their day. I will definitely be back and recommend this restaurant to any and everybody! I love the food here! They have the best green sauce, i always get some to go too. I always order beef fajitas too. Some staff are super and some are ok. The only thing i dislike here is the wait, theres ALWAYS a wait! I guess that just means the food is that good. The margaritas are a little pricey and didnt seem like they had much alcohol in them but i guess that just depends on the bartender that night. read more

I discovered Gringo's when I was taken there Father's day by my daughter. I really love Mexican food and this place doesn't disappoint. We sat at the bar for a while because it was crowded. Sipping a margarita, it didn't seem like it took long at all before we were seated. There are large screen TV's to distract you and the huge bar was bustling with activity..it .looks like it seats over 30 or so people. Just a large rectangle shaped bar where u can see others opposite you dining and drinking also. I just had the house margarita which was just right...if you want stronger, they have one called the Cadillac which has more booze in it. I love their red sauce...it's so tomatoey...and the green is no slouch either. The service was good and the food even better. The last time I was there I went alone and just sat at the bar...which has a happy hour from 2 to 6 weekdays...I enjoyed that a lot. Waited an hour and a half just to be seated. Sit down and order a beer Rita and waiter said they were out of glasses and brought it in a tall glass. I asked him to take it back until he had clean glasses so he came back 5 minutes later with the regular glass but a watered down frozen margarita so evidently the just poured the same drink into another glass. Get our food and the portions weren't big enough to feed a bird! I ordered chalupas and they tasted like Taco Bell then the waiter asked if I liked them I said no he then said oh see you ordered chalupas. If I go to a restaurant anything that I order should be good! The sopapillas were horrible I should have just dipped a tortilla chip in honey! They were terrible! Best food ever. Fresh. Plentiful. Most of all great quality and again fresh. The staff are awesome and sincere, quickly want to know if your food is to your satisfaction. If not satisfied, they will have it corrected. While waiting for your order, they give you two types of salsas (one red and one green) and baskets of chips promptly full. Came into gringos for lunch today after getting off work early, and walked right back out. I've been a long supporter and guest to the gringos food chain, and even worked at jimmy changas in Katy. Never once have I been around a server like the one we were about to have today. I believe his name is Cody. After a hot day and arriving during happy hour, my girlfriend and I are ready for a some margaritas and good food. He asked for our ID's (have no problem with that) gives me mine right back, looks at my girlfriends ID and says he can't serve her because of her ID being an under 21 license. While looking at her ID front and back, he's looking back at us constantly. He says he can get a manager to see if they will serve us. Thanks for asking for our ID's, but 1, we don't look under 21 for sure, and 2, I don't need to try and get away with a fast one if me or my girlfriend want to have a drink. I won't spend my time, or my hard earned money on tipping someone like this or being served like this. We live in the area and have been coming here for years. Some of the bartenders even know me by name when they see me. My girlfriend said I looked mad when he left the table, another server came and asked if everything was okay and I told him to bring me my tab for my coke and tea. He told me he would tell a manager to take care of it, I could tell he knew how to handle a situation properly but I was ready to go. The way he greeted us, to that weird situation we have NEVER had ANYWHERE. Very disappointed and won't be coming back soon. We've tried this place twice and the only positive I can give is that the margaritas are good, but no matter how many I have they cannot outweigh the subpar service. First time we went, our server was MIA for almost 30 minutes after bringing our water. This time (wanted to give Gringo's another chance because sometimes people just have off days) we were told the wait would be 30 minutes- no big deal (they have a jungle gym outside which is great- hence the second star) but 45 minutes later (and parties who arrived LATER than us were starting to be seated) I was confounded and asked the hostess how much longer it would be, because later parties were being seated. And she told me it would be ANOTHER 30 minutes. Normally I'm pretty relaxed in these situations, but having our 2 year old with us changes things. Had I known that the wait would've been an hour, I would've sought out a different option for us. I'm super frustrated and I know that people may be "new" but coming from the hospitality industry, you should always have a veteran employee supervising to avoid mistakes like these.
