I had dinner here last Friday and while the restaurant was busy, we were seated immediately. While I have visited another Gringo's location this was my first meal here. Inside it's an attractively decorated restaurant. I ordered the Burrito Con Queso with the steak and chicken fajita meat for $18. First to arrive was the complimentary chips and salsas. In this case 2 salsas. A spicy avocado based one and the other was red and quite tasty. I enjoyed these chips and salsas (4). The entree arrived shortly after with rice along with a cup of charro beans and my queso on the side as requested. While the burrito was a little smaller than expected it was very good tasting. I added a little bit of the cheese to it and it was delicious. Our table service was prompt and I considered this to be a very good meal and would be happy to return. Henry was my server at Gringo's Champions & Saphire was a great addition to my visit. I think she is a Manager. I went solo for Cinco De Mayo and got the little cup they provide for the holiday. ' Not as nice as Pappasito's but the location is right by my house. I also appreciate the app which Henry said I had a $5.00 coupon available (I had no idea) and a free cheese Enchilada, which is the May special - use the App! I got that plus rice and guacamole with rinds and everything was excellent and delicious & so fresh! The House frozen Margarita is my favorite. Today they seem shortstaffed, service was very slow, chips and salsa never came had to keep asking for that, etc... never saw a manager walking around to help; three hostess, but not enough wait staff or bus boys to keep up with the lunch crowd. Pretty disappointed in the service today it was OK, might give it another chance not sure though. Stopped in for lunch with my vision after watching some soccer. Our waitress Rebecca was phenomenal. So patient,approachable and attentive. I ordered the taco salad with stew chicken out was so fresh and I love the taco bowl it was crispy. My cousin got the chicken enchiladas with poblano sauce. We started with the pineapple margarita but something about it was just off so we sent it back and got the straw margarita which was refreshing and delicious. I usually love margarita on the rocks and I love pineapple but that drink was salty and not sweet it almost felt like the pineapple juice used was bad. Came her per the recommendation of a blog that said they had a playground. There were even photos of it online. We arrived with children in tow hoping for a nice family experience but was met with just a Gringos. The playground was removed and replaced with a large waiting area. Good for them. Despite them still being open and seating us nobody acknowledged us because they were too busy cleaning. Which is fine, we got here 30 minutes before closing and there were other folks still eating and I get yall wanna go home but you should have just turned us away at the door. Anyway. It's a gringos. I guess the biggest mistake I made was ordering at a time when my pick up time (3:54pm) was close to a shift change. My order was a Zapata dinner and queso. The biggest disappointment was the boracho beans. It was more like a soup where I struggled to even find beans. I think it had 5-6. The container was less than 1/2 full to begin with...What a joke. While I understand with inflation the prices have gone up, I don't think I would pay another $26.35 for this meal again. It wasn't worth driving for. Every single time I visit this place, it's just an average dining experience for me. I truly look forward to the ice cream cones more than the food itself. I may need to tweak my thinking, but Tex-Mex foods are supposed to be plentiful and flavorful. I can definitely take off a star because their portion sizes has never wowed me. That is probably why you are given complimentary chips with red salsa and guac salsa. The green salsa is very tasty... which has you eating way more chips and salsa than you should before an entree comes out. You are nearly full off the chips and dips...and the entree, small in size, serves as a complete space filler giving off the illusion of plenty of food during your dining experience. This particular location forgets to refill the cups of "water only" people. 9 people at the table, only 2 people asked for water... only 2 people did not get a refill today. All in all, the food is above the "okay" level. The pricing is a little too high for Tex-Mex dining. I'm never a fan of bougie nachos. 4 chips covered in cheese and toppings is not a worthy plate of $15. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I went with a group of six and had one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. To start, I'm new to Texas and currently have the temporary paper ID the state issues while waiting for the hard copy. When I tried to order a drink, the waiter said he needed to check with his manager. The manager came over and dismissed the ID entirely, saying they don't accept it. We went back and forth as I explained this is the standard issued by the state. I even offered to have a police officer verify my identity -- not to cause a scene, but to prove I'm of age -- and was told "we don't want a scene." So apparently if you're new to the state and follow its legal process, you just don't get served here. Absurd. Beyond that, the overall service was terrible. We were given our appetizers before even getting silverware or napkins. I had to ask for napkins and was given cocktail napkins like it was some kind of joke. Only when our meals arrived did we finally get proper silverware and real napkins. We ran out of chips and had to flag someone down to get more. Our waiter gave us nothing but rushed, drive-by service and never even asked if we were splitting the check -- which, in a group of six, should be basic courtesy. Their chips are very unique, they are addicting. I loved their green sauce and their red sauce was just as great! I usually do not like the red sauce but I could've eaten the entire bowl by myself. Gringo's has been a staple in this community for years but as a Mexican restaurant that went from offering a plethora of different types of tequilas to now offering around three or four types is truly disappointing. If you're a margarita drinker that likes tequilas with hints of vanilla and caramel sweet notes then come thru! You'll be satisfied here. Two years ago I could order a margarita with herradura reposado but not now. No 1942 or any premium tequila so please don't say you're a Mexican restaurant because clearly you are but one that cut cost at the bar. I had two margaritas. One made with Hornitos and the other Exotico both bland tequilas sweet azz tequilas. I mean just horrible (in my opinion). Yes, I finished both because duh...they weren't free. Once more, is that ALL of their tequila offerings looks like a list from the tequila dollar store for folks that are new to margaritas. This is the Cypresswood and Stuebner Airline location. The establishment was clean and restaurant always appears clean whenever I visit. The service is really dependent on your waitress.
