The food was amazing, their atmosphere was extremely welcoming ! They displayed so much gratitude to us being part of their restaurant! It was my birthday so we celebrated there & they were so kind to sing happy birthday! Truly recommend this place !

Was looking for a good Mexican place along the beach and came across Gringo's. The location was a bit hidden in the building but we were greeted by an incredibly friendly staff at the restaurant. The food was alright, nothing bad but also nothing to write home about. A little pricey, too, for the quality.

Gringo's Taqueria is on the highly recommend list for locals and visitors. One of the best fish tacos I've had ... anywhere. Soooo good. The kind of taco that makes you audibly say "Wow. That's good". We went twice on our last trip to VA Beach. Craft cocktails were creatively garnished and made with pride. Tasted great. Took a long time for bartender to make (on our first visit) worth the wait. Wait times can be long, or short, depending on the night, and you wait in the outside hallway. Doesn't matter. Have a drink while you wait. Mojitos are authentic and lots of varieties (Classic was my favorite, Mango and Pomegranate were very good too). Cool vibe "locals only" and "visitors welcome" all in 1. Super friendly service. A hidden gem off the beaten path in VA Beach.

Gringo's is a small, local's joint in the same blue building at Zeke's and Pizza Chapel off Norfolk Ave. It's small and intimate inside with a bar with about 5 seats and about 8 or so tables. Staff were incredibly friendly. We had to wait about 10 minutes for the table which wasn't too bad. We browsed the menu while waiting. It's small and doesn't have a ton of options or healthy veggie items, but there were a few things to choose from. In the end - we went with chips and salsa - yum with a small side of white habanero sauce which was very good. I ordered the chicken enchilada and my husband ordered two tacos. His tacos were large in size and you pay per taco with a bunch of options for toppings ands styles so you can easily mix it up and get as many as you want. Food was out quickly and pretty big portions and our waitress was very sweet. Their sweet tea was delicious. Loved the salsa and chips. My enchilada was different than what I expected. Not wrapped and fried but more like baked lasagna on a plate. But good. Huge portion. Would come back again. Tends to get super crowded in summer from what I hear but we got lucky this Friday night.

Service was so fast I was taken back! The women that work here are so wonderful. I got a veggie burrito and it was absolutely full of incredibly seasoned and fresh vegetables. Would definitely go back!

It is not the best Mexican food, but not the worst. I ordered pork and shrimp tacos. The pork tacos were good. They had some heat but not a lot of flavor. The shrimp tacos were very plain. I ordered them without sour cream, and they only came with shredded lettuce. And in flower tortillas. They have pineapple salsa. It wasn't bad; it was good with the heat of the pork taco. I also ordered guacamole; it was fresh and helped add flavor to the tacos. The restaurant is small and clean, and the service was good, but only a few people were dining. Although it was not a bad experience, and the food was not bad, I would not eat there again.

I'm from California & I learned to cook from great genuine Mexican cooks. Gringos is a cute, clean, nicely decorated restaurant , highly recommended by Virginia Beach natives. Salsa was exceptional & chips were thin & crisp, yummy! My Yubi taco was good, not great. Rice was mediocre, black beans were mediocre. Green side salad was mediocre. These items are very cheap to make but important to Mexican food lovers. I'd love for the owner to respond on yelp to me for my recipe for authentic delicious Mexican style rice, how to make a mediocre side salad delicious, just by adding a few cheap ingredients. Offer a good, solid Mexican flan topped with whipped cream and sprinkled cinnamon or nutmeg for dessert. After spicy heavy food, flan made correctly is yummy & soothing to over indulged stomachs. Margarita (skinny) was very good. I love cloudy margaritas, means it's made with real juice. Your restaurant is so highly recommended, so cute & clean, & with so much competition it'd be in your best interest to accept my advice. I'd love to visit again & see delicious authentic rice on my plate.

Another home town favorite for Virginia Beach. It's a very small and quaint place. Not suitable for large groups but it would be a nice lunch or dinner date. Met by the owner who works here regularly. Super sweet lady. We sat ourselves with no wait. On this visit I started with a Porch Swing from the drink menu. So good. A tequila based drink garnished with scorched oranges and pineapples. Very refreshing and sweet. Perfect for a warm summer day! My main course I ordered 3 tacos , pollo asada, a pork and fish taco. Presentation is always amazing. Tacos are big and flavorful. Probably should've got two but I didn't eat breakfast and my eyes deceived me. Honestly no complaints about this place!

Small local taqueria inside a strip mall. Service was fast. Food was just average which was disappointing based on the great reviews. I had the shrimp and pineapple taco and the pollo asado taco, which were just ok. The queso was also slightly bland. Rice and beans were traditional and nothing special.

Small place, service was excellent, food was great. Highly recommend the jaco taco. Only complaint was the tortillas tasted store bought and not authentic and homemade like you get at other Mexican restaurants. Other then that every was great.

The food here is amazing! The orange chicken taco (pictured on the left) was my favorite of the two I ordered! It was so full of flavor and the chicken had a pleasant spice to it. I don't like my food too spicy (I still want to taste it after all ), and this was the right amount of heat. I was a little underwhelmed by the pollo asado after eating the orange chicken taco first. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't as flavorful in my opinion. The service was good. It was just enough so we knew we were being taken care of without being intrusive. The atmosphere was great, if a little crowded. Personally, I like that slightly crowded feeling of the smaller establishments.

This place is a hidden gem. The service is amazing, the food is delicious. I'm from Jersey, and every time I visit Virginia Beach, I will make it a point to visit.

Disgusting chicken burrito that looks and tastes like canned tuna fish

We came here to celebrate a birthday, and it ended up being one of those meals where everything just hit. First off, those margaritas are no joke. Massive, flavorful, and strong in the best way. Bonus: they do $2 off specialty margs on Mondays, which is dangerous knowledge now that I have it. I went with the Coco Loco Margarita (1800 coconut tequila, coconut milk, triple sec, and sweetened flaked coconut), and WOW. It was creamy, refreshing, and honestly tasted like a tropical vacation. My friends ordered the House Marg, Peach Sangria Marg and the Spicy Pineapple & Cilantro Marg, all were just as impressive. The spicy one had a great kick without being overwhelming, and the peach option was super smooth and fruity. Before we even ordered, the complimentary chips, salsa, and that famous white sauce came out ... and let me tell you, that white sauce is to die for. I could've eaten that all night. For my dinner, I had the asada enchiladas, and I'm still thinking about them. Perfectly cooked grilled steak laid over cheesy enchiladas with verde sauce, plus rice and black beans. I loved that the steak was on top because once I got full, I could still pick at the protein (elite move). My friends got arroz con pollo, carne asada tacos, and the wildest dish on the table ... the El Molcajete. It came out sizzling in a stone bowl loaded with shrimp, beef, chicken, chorizo, cactus, and all the fixings. We all shared bites and it was unreal. We ended the night with the staff singing happy birthday and completely embarrassing my friend with a sombrero and a candle in his shot. Incredible. Definitely will be coming back, especially for that margarita deal and birthdays!

Happy hour was 3-6pm I think, and there were 2 taco specials on the board. I'm not sure if it was valid or not.. There was one person at the bar taking orders, serving drinks, and pretty much running the place. She was very busy. The anxiety of watching her try to handle everything made me a little uncomfortable. She was doing her best, and kuddos to her for not flipping a table and walking out. She was nice, but she asked us every 3-4 minutes if we knew what we were ordering. It was very aggravating. I don't think she realized after several times we were over it. The inside is pretty much a bar setting with a few booths. It's very dated and low-key kind of gloomy inside. I'd say this is a bar for locals, not really a restaurant. It's definitely the kind of food you could eat if you had a few drinks, maybe. But sober, heck no!! Lol. Ugh. I was excited to try them because they have some 5 star reviews, but it wasn't what I expected. When it was time to eat she went and got the cook from outside. We ordered 2 burgers and fries, and chicken nachos. We left and came back to pick up our order and the seats at the bar was packed at this point. The waitress met us as we walked in, with our food. I was hungry, so I tried the food in the car. The burger was definitely a frozen patty and thick as heck. It looked decent kinda sorta, in a way, maybe, just a little bit. Idk what to say. The fries were crispy but awkwardly greasy!! There was one tiny tomato on my burger and a huge onion that was a little moldy. I've never seen someone use a slice of onion this big on a burger. The burger definitely needed seasoning. I think if it had flavor it would have been decent. I'll give the burger a 4/10. My sister got the chicken nachos and she was not happy. Whatever mystery beans they had made were disgusting. They tasted old or something was off about them. The guacamole was a little sour tasting also, and the chicken was flavorless. She tried so hard to make it work, she even re-cooked the beans and it just didn't help. 2/10!!! She spent $25 and felt it was the worse decision she made all day. I wish I was exaggerating or something, but this is actual factual. The prices are reasonable, I'll say that. But it's definitely certain things to stay away from on the menu. I don't think we'd ever return. Maybe the tacos are better than what we had ordered. If you're looking for a drink maybe things would be better. I think they specialize in drinks over food!?

My sister has gotten some kind of burger also lol. I get dropped off gave my son his food looks like it's about to be good lol until he heats it up for a second, I put all the fixings on my nachos right. Believing things was about to hit smh nope.. my kid said mom I appreciate you bringing me something to eat home but.... The burger tastes like nothing was like chewing sawdust bacon was the only thing to taste alright, fries were ok though. now lol for my nachos looks can be deceiving. My lettuce was brown and wilted, was supposed to be like a refried beans I guess ‍ they were kidney beans looked those. When i say they smelled like I was taken back by the look of things but when my crazy self tasted that mess my lawdt smh had my stomach doing flips. Also the guacamole tasted like that was old and sour. I have had guac with too much lemon or lime juice in it, this was like past its time only looked ok due to the lemon juice or whatever. Will not be doing that again. The ambiance was chill a few of those slot games bar area in the middle of the place a few tables around it nothing to really hype up. I will say even though we didn't care for what we had, maybe it was a bad day. ‍ Who knows other things may be good if we stop past that beauty store again, I'd go and try the lumpia or fried fish taco. Was told that they taste really good. lol honestly y'all go be the judge for yourselves could have been an off day.

The outside of the building is easy to see when coming up on Nimmo Parkway. My most recent visit here was on April 10, 2026. The outside of the business looks to be like a festive Mexican place. The colors of the name stand out from the rest of the building. There is outdoor seating overlooking the lake. I have found that parking can be a bit dicey during the busier times, which was the case on my most recent visit. The inside of the business is a festive Mexican scene too with all the art along the walls and such throughout. The overall vibe is part Mexican, part Bar Scene. It's actually a great combo for them. It had been a few years since I had been there before my first recent visit on March 30, 2026. I was going through stuff for an early spring cleaning, and found a coupon (that didn't have an expiration date). It was so old that it still listed locations for their sister restaurant El Tapatio (no longer around). This was the catalyst that got both myself and my mom to come back in. Speaking of coupons, they do honor coupons from their competitors too. On the first recent visit (March 30, 2026), we were immediately greeted and went to a booth. A server came over and brought the chips and salsa right away. When our server came over, which was pretty quick, we did ask to have the white sauce too (by request now). When he came back, I showed him the coupon and he went over to check with the manager. Ultimately, that coupon was able to be used on this visit. It was now time to start ordering while still looking over the menu. We started with the Small Cheese Dip Appetizer. This is something I get most of the time when going to a Mexican restaurant, though I will switch out to guacamole sometimes. It didn't take long for the cheese dip to come out. I don't normally drink alcohol, but I did on this visit, and I would try the Bloody Maria. My mom would get Pepsi on this visit. It would still take us a bit longer to choose something since there is so much to choose from. After another few minutes, we were finally ready to order. I ordered the Burritos Mexicanos with Chicken as the protein (no rice), while my mom got the Chimichangas with ground beef as the protein. In a little under ten minutes, the food came out to the table, and it was very hot, which is what I would expect. Both entrees looked really good. The burritos looked small, but they were packed with chicken and flavor. My mom really liked the Chimichangas as well. Since this visit was so good, we came back a few weeks later on April 10, 2026. On the April 10, 2026 visit, parking was pretty limited, which I am not surprised since it was a Friday evening and the weather was nice. This second visit was very similar to the one a few weeks before. On this visit, we ordered the Tableside Guacamole, but exclude the serrano peppers in it. Even without the serrano peppers, the guacamole was really good, fresh and flavorful. For the entree, I ordered a Burrito Bowl with chicken as the protein. My mom ordered the TJ Tacos entree. Both of those food items were great too, and my mom said it was too much, but it was good. Overall, these latest visits here were great. The food and service were on point and didn't have any issues. One thing to note is that if you use a credit card, there is a 3% processing fee. This fee does not apply when paying by cash or debit card. With great food and great service, this place is worth checking out if you're in the Red Mill area in Virginia Beach and looking for a Mexican place.
