We took some friends here for dinner last night. Service was great, but the food was terrible. None of us (4) enjoyed our food. The fish and chips was oil soaked and dripping with oil. The 3 others all had the beef dip sandwiches. The "pepper sauce" on the sandwiches was overbearing. None us ate much of our food. We won't return here. read more

Last night be walked in with a large party, put our name down, and were told to return in 45 min for a table. When we returned after 45 min the hostess said, "oh I was going to call you, there's no way we can accommodate your party. I have to prioritize our reservations first." We reminded her that we had been waiting for 45 min as instructed and she just shrugged and said it would be over an hour more if we still wanted to wait. We left for another restaurant and got a call about an hour later saying our table was ready. We reminded the caller what had happened and she said "I never said that." It was so strange and a terrible experience. I totally understand not being able to accommodate a large party without a reservation, but the hostess should have called us right away if it was going to be a problem instead of waiting until we returned after a 45 min wait expecting a table. read more

Good sized portions for a decent prices and flavorful, well thought out food. I am impressed and a little disappointed this is my first visit but oh, yes, I WILL be back. Crispy cauliflower with cashew chutney- flavor explosion in my mouth! One of the best appetizers I have ever had. Loved it. Ate it. Almost licked the plate. Pork tacos- 3 tacos with a generous amount of shredded delicious pork, pickled onions, shredded lettuce and drizzle of sauce. Really really good. Grit dip- French dip on a baguette with jalapeño cheese, Kobe beef, and bacon. My husband said "I don't know what was in it but it was delicious." Word. Went here for lunch with my mom and husband. This is a very nice casual eatery, that isn't too loud so you can actually enjoy the conversation. This place has delicious fresh food! You can tell the kitchen puts a lot of care into their food and it shows! We had Valerie as our server and she was absolutely wonderful, gave us just enough attention even with many full tables around us. My husband had the bacon chicken Alfredo which was delicious! My mom and I split the spicy chicken fried chicken and the farro salad with salmon. Both had very complex flavors that worked so well together. This is a great place to go as a group to catch up and also seems kid friendly! We cannot wait to visit again! read more

This has rocket up to the top of my list so of go to places! The food is fantastic and the service has been great every time we've been here. The fried vegetables are delicious and come with a tantalizing sauce, my wife and I ended up battling over who got the last cauliflower while we waited for our main dish. I ended up getting their sandwich with au jus and I could hardly put it down once I started. Everything was cooked perfectly and very savory. As I was finishing I was already planning the next time we'd be able to return (surprise, it was maybe a week later)! Whenever we come to Caldwell to have our vehicle serviced we always eat at Amano's. Thursday evening and they were closed for some reason. So glad we discovered Grit 2C. Cool place. Weren't we lucky? I love me some Poutine and theirs was to die for. Very tasty pulled pork on top, fries and a ton of cheese curds buried under the gravy. Absolute deliciousness. The app was large enough for four people. Party of two and we ate it all. Pure gluttony. Needless to say I was full by the time our main meal came. I ordered the Grit Dip which was tasty but nothing extraordinary. Side choices were fries, chips and salsa or a house salad. Selected the house salad. One of the best salads I've ever eaten. Fresh, crispy mixed greens, carrots, cukes, tiny croutons (which I loved), maple pecans and shaved Parmesan. Lemon vinaigrette on the side. All those flavors melded together was pure perfection. I would come back just for the salad. Husband had the bacon jam grilled cheese and he said it was very good. This restaurant is a keeper! read more

We stopped in with family on a recent visit to ID. What a wonderful surprise this cafe in Caldwell was! We were immediately greeted and seated for lunch. The staff was beyond friendly and answered all questions about the menu/drinks. We had two young children with us who were a bit undecided about what to eat, but our server was more than patient. The atmosphere was somewhat modern, but cozy at the same time. Just a lovely experience all around. The food was some of the best we've had in the area. They put their own spin on some classic dishes and hit a home run with each one. I wish I could remember what everyone ate, but there were a few that really stuck out in my mind. I had not had Fried Jalapeños (NOT Poppers) since I last visited SC, but they were on the menu here. Of course we ordered them as a starter - House Pickled Jalapenos, battered and fried with Green Goddess Dipping Sauce. Delicious!! The perfect precursor for the meal to come. I was torn on what to order, but finally settled on the Grit Dip - Smoked Angus Beef, Pepper Relish Jam, Cheddar Cheese, Black Pepper Sauce, Crispy Onions on a Baguette with Chipotle Bacon Au Jus. Just a bit of flair to an old classic and oh so good. Against my better judgement, I ate most of my sandwich! Our group also had the Cuban - Smoked Pork Shoulder, Tasso Ham, Swiss, Dijon Jalapeno Cheese Whiz, Grilled Citrus Mojo, and Pickles on a pressed Baguette and a Brisket sandwich on special the day we stopped in. Everything was flavorful and well prepared. Cocktails as well as local and domestic beer and wine round out the menu. I found pricing to be on par with what I would expect for the great quality food we were served. I will return to ID for a visit with family and when I do, I will head to Grit to try some other menu offerings! Highly recommend!! read more

Food - This time the wife got a spring salad with steak. It came out separated, so you could build your own bites. Steak was juicy, the goat cheese was plenty, the beets were left alone and untouched as they should be, and everything else on the plate was fresh and tasty! I got the Rockfish Tacos. They were really flavorful, with zero fishy taste. The mild fish, the slaw, and all the sauces really made these tacos delicious. read more

What a gem! For 15 years, we've come through the area on our annual cross country road trips, and found Brick 29 in Nampa shortly after they opened. We loved everything about their food, cocktails and service for years, but found less and less of the quaint charm as they expanded and morphed in recent years. This year, I searched Yelp for an alternative and Grit 2C scratched exactly that itch. The service was fast, attentive and so warm. The cocktails were seasonal and spectacular - an apple butter martini and peach Moscow mule were divine twists on standard drinks and the Bloody Mary was perfect. And the food was amazing - fresh, delicious and beautiful. The home made tortilla chips were addictive. The salsa was thick and smoky. The ceviche was perfect and the quinoa salad with salmon was a joy to my taste buds. Treat yourself and enjoy this lovely cuisine! read more

I love this place! I've been here 3 times now because I want to try everything on their menu!!! The food is so good and the staff is amazing. From the hostess to each server we've had, I have had the nicest, most incredible service. I brought my father in law here and he is quite the chef himself so he's a lil hard to impress, but boy was he impressed. He had the Grit burger and it was "phenomenal" according to him. This most recent visit, I had the shrimp and cheesy bacon grits. WOW! So good. So much flavor in every bite. My daughter loves their chicken and bacon Alfredo. We ate dinner here for our anniversary. It was our first time here and we were a bit surprised. We made reservations which was great because we got seated as soon as we walked in. The table was all set up and waiting for us. It was pretty busy so the noise level was a bit much. It wasn't quite the intimate atmosphere we had envisioned. It was much more casual and industrial than we expected. Not a bad thing per se, just not what we expected having never been before. My husband ordered the ribeye and potato and I ordered the rockfish tacos. They both were very tasty. My husband felt like the plate needed a vegetable on the side to make it better but overall loved the meal. My tacos were delicious and I enjoyed the homemade seasoned tortilla chips too. We are in Caldwell just for one night and used Yelp to select two restaurants that sounded good. We are so happy out first choice was closed and we went to Grit 2C! The diverse menu was what attracted us and they delivered on it. We started with the Ahi Ceviche which is not something I would expect in Idaho but it sounded worth a try. Winner! Winner! It is comparable to the Ceviche we love from a Peruvian restaurant in Phoenix. We planned to split it as an appetizer. The price made us think it would be a small offering . Wrong! It could be a meal in itself. Our entrees are in danger of being dogie-bagged. The DW opted for the Cuban Sandwich with chips. The Dijon Jalapeno Cheese Whiz sounded scary but is made in-house and was the perfect accent. My Grit Dip takes a classic French Dip to another level. The Au Jus is the best I have ever had. I would have drunk the remaining liquid had there been any. The accompanying fries were obviously house made and not previously frozen. Done perfectly. The staff are personable and efficient. Even the lady I believe to be the owner stopped by and conversed with us for a while. Very interesting. The next time we are in the area, we will be back here. read more

Husband and I decided to check this out and we are so glad we did! Stopped by on a Saturday around 5:30pm, no need to wait for a table yet. I had a hard time deciding since so many items looked drool worthy! Finally settled on the Thornburger Double with Farro salad. I am a big eater at dinner time and this was a LOT of food for me which is rare. It was delicious!! The burger had 10% bacon already in it and the hamburger was tasty and on the lean side. Betting it comes from the local McIntyre Farms, grass fed cows? My husband spent no time making his decision as soon as he realized it was a Saturday night and they had Prime Rib!! It instantly became his new favorite prime rib/steak place in Canyon County. He is used to having the normal bread/salad included when he orders so was a tad disappointed the waitress didn't ask if he wanted to order one or point out that it wasn't included. The twice fried potatoes with bacon and cheese almost made up for it...the only other down side is that this place seems a tad over priced and the service wasn't stellar, our water glasses sat empty half of the meal and we were thirsty!
