After reading reviews we decided to stop on our way from Orlando to Nashville and so glad we did! We had the grits fritters for an appetizer and they were so light inside and very tasty. I had the Coca Cola chopped chicken salad and it was excellent. The chicken had a nice crispy coating and very moist inside. My husband had the chicken panini that came with Caesar salad and he enjoyed that too. Our server was attentive and the interior was so quaint. Truly a dining experience! This place is Southern Fusion Dinning at its best. We were a little under dressed (t-shirts & shorts) but they didn't seem to care. The service was fantastic from the waitress, to the manager at end making sure our dinner experience was positive. The food was AMAZING! The quality of the food by far exceeded our expectations, presentation was spot on, and the flavors were like the 4th of July, beautiful and explosive. I came here with a classmate of mine while in town. I read all the great reviews and decided to try it out. The food was amazing. I will say the free cheese rolls are awesome! The menu is on the pricey side but the decor and atmosphere is super nice. Great place to bring a hot date! I ordered the shrimp and streak and it tasted amazing! It came with some steam broccoli, mashed potatoes, and a giant onion ring. I definitely will be back when I am in town. And the service was amazing! I had heard about this place for ages and finally found some time to drive up and check it out! We came in for lunch on a random weekday and it was relatively empty when we arrived. No problems finding street parking just a block down. (I hear it gets pretty packed on weekends though). Forsyth is a small town and the main square is not large but you do have to keep your eyes peeled to find the restaurant! We were seated immediately when we walked in and our server was wonderful, friendly and on top of things. Drink orders were taken and biscuits came out immediately. YUMMY biscuits. We ordered the grit sticks for an appetizer based on our server's recommendation and they did not disappoint! My sister had the fried green tomato sandwich, which is HUGE, and said it was delicious. We all helped with the fries :) I had their seasonal salad and a cup of soup, which were refreshing and hit the spot. My husband enjoyed one of their burgers. It is a bit expensive for the area for sure but not unreasonable if you are at all used to non-chain restaurant eating! I've noticed that since I'm more active on Yelp, I'm note apt to try new places. We were on our way back from Florida to Nashville & decided to get a bit to eat before hitting Atlanta. I popped open Yelp to see what was around north of us on I-75. I then saw Grits Cafe. I connected to the name, then saw it has a 5 star average rating from 51 reviews?! Must be good! We popped in the address & made our way there. I've never been on Forsyth, Ga, but it's a cute little town. The cafe is located on the city square, literally across the street from the Monroe County court house. We parked on the street and made our way it. It was 1:40 pm on a Saturday, I didn't think to check about hours, but we saw in the window that lunch was from 11am-2pm. I don't like to go to restaurants before the close. I popped my head in and asked the hostess if it was too late for lunch. She said "oh no, how many?" and sat us at a window table. The cafe has some tables out on a covered patio, along with space inside, including a bar area and private room for parties. The inside is decorated like a cafe you'd find in Charleston or Savannah. From what I gather from the other Yelp reviews, there was a fire a couple years ago and they had to remodel the whole place. Wood floors, wooden tables, exposed wooden brick walls and pops of color give it an upscale feel without trying too hard. I skimmed over the menu and saw the GC Caesar salad and decided on that. Last minute I changed to the chicken panini because it came with a Caesar salad. My boyfriend ordered the burger with bacon and provolone cheese and fries. Our server was very friendly and welcoming, and they places wasn't that busy at all. My guess is the locals knew it closed at 2pm! It didn't take but ten minutes or so for us to get our meal. I really enjoyed the Caesar salad. Some places will douse the salad with too much dressing, but not Grits Cafe. The salad came with 3 large, fresh crouton type pieces of bread that were great. I wished I'd had a couple more. The chicken panini was good. It tasted fresh and I liked the seasoning on the chicken. I was able to taste the burger and fries. Both of which were very good. I liked the seasoning on the burger. It has a smokey flavor, like it was grilled over an open flame. Phillip had asked for it medium, but the burger came out well, which was a little disappointing. I actually liked the taste and flavor of the burger over the panini. The prices are reflective of the atmosphere. I really enjoyed the place and would come back and order that burger medium again and hope it was medium when it came to the table. My wife and I and another couple ate there on Jan 28th. Per our server, the kitchen staff lost our initial order so it had to be rewritten and she asked that they put a rush on it. We asked that they take their time well with the exception of my meal. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. I had the duck it was so overdone the rice was so over marinated it was not edible. The food is delicious. We had the grits martini (grits, shrimp, bacon, shiitake) and a sweet onion tart. The grits martini ($9 for about 6oz), served in a martini glass, was creamy and flavorful. The onion tart ($11, about 3" diam) consisted of caramelized onions inside a flaky, pastry crust. What to drink? Being from the north, I tried their sweet tea. The waitress suggested I get it half and half so I won't be overwhelmed by the sweetness. It was just right. The place is beautifully decorated with warm colours, rich wood, and swaths of curtains gently blowing in the breeze. We visited the cafe in the late afternoon so it wasn't really busy. My drink choice, The Bee's Knees, pretty much summarizes our dinner experience! We plan our yearly escape from the midwest to Florida so that we can stop at Grits Cafe for dinner. Our very accomadating server split our Spinach Salad for us. It was so unique and refreshing: baby spinach & kale, black beans, charred corn and red peppers in a heavenly roasted poblano ranch dressing. I'd love to have the recipe, it was so tasty! Our entrees were just as memorable. I chose the Sherry Cream Penne with jerked shrimp while the hubby chose the New Orleans BBQ Shrimp and Grits. Both choices were outstanding! When we arrived to Forsyth we were quite disappointed with the food choices until we found out about Grits - wow what a hidden jewel right on the town square and yes I do mean it was kind of hidden as sign blends in with the building. Once inside, the Restuarant was bigger than expected and had great design elements although the lights were a tiny bit too dimmed - but that is the only thing even close to a complaint here. The unique cocktail options were a delightful change from the same ole same ole at other places. Then the menu made my mouth water and I was excited about ordering - only to find out, wait there's more - daily specials with items from the owners family farm. So after hearing the ins and outs from our overjoyed waitress named Savanah, I ordered and it was just as good as it sounded if not better. I met friends for lunch 1/31/23. For the menu price of $22, I had the absolute worst shrimp and grits. The grits were sweet, the sauce was more like salsa, and most of the shrimp was fried. A place that inspires style and reclusion. Beautiful restaurant in a classy yet simple decor. We had to wait for our waiter that came about 4 times to see us but we had the time. I am guessing someone in a hurry would not enjoy that part. Their food is excellent, cooked with taste in mind and presentation. Portions are not huge that is, once again something I appreciated but others might not. The downside would be the wine, a bit pricy for the quality. Fantastic little spot outside ATL. Forsyth is super lucky to have spot like this. My colleague had the grass fed burger with fresh hand cut fries and never stopped to say anything. I see house infused vodkas on the shelf (it's lunch time and I've still got a ways to drive, so...) but they look good. My husband found this gem on Yelp on our way back to Florida. The atmosphere is clean, elegant and modern. The presentation of the restaurant and the way they plate food was on point! I ordered their delicious hamburger with homemade Boursin cheese. It was cooked perfect (pink in the middle) My mother in law order the daily special "runaway" mushroom bisque and burger in a wrap. The soup was creamy and the Gorgonzola croutons complimented the mushrooms. My husband ordered the chicken panini a with a Ceasar salad. It looked delicious. We had reservations at 730, I recommend making one this is a popular spot, however they do take walk ins. No valet but plenty of parking around the restaurant. Get off the highway and try this small town place! We were traveling from Florida to Atlanta and came across this restaurant after reading online reviews. Wow!! My husband had the BBQ short ribs served with read potato salad and a tempura fried dill pickle. The beef fell off the bone, perfectly tender and delicious. I had the Iceberg salad with blackened shrimp. It's the most decadent wedge salad I've ever seen. The shrimp were perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked. The bacon, tomato, boursin and chiabatta toast made this a perfect light meal. We shared the bread pudding , made with chocolate, strawberries and coffee liqueur. Fabulous. The outside of Grits Cafe is pretty unassuming: a quaint, small town restaurant. Once inside you are greeted with welcoming warmth, and a lovely, more upscale appearance than expected. The staff is delightful, friendly, and warm. The food is simply amazing! Choosing an option from the tantalizing menu is a great challenge. Everything my party tried was DELICIOUS!
