One of my stop for coffee tour again.. :) Got a skim cappuccino.. The barista are all well-trained!! :) I love how they have sits for customer to sit down and it looks like a small, warm, and friendly place with their old design.. There is something here which is really unique.. I got the cappuccino to go... but I just sat on the bench with my friend and don't feel like leaving the place.. This will be my place to get coffee if I am in Soho.. oh.. and also La Colombe.. The coffee was just as good as others.. The caffeine was strong and it smells good.. wouldn't doubt about it since they serve intelligentsia here.. :) I really love the environment here.. it feels local.. I did not realize this place... I just stopped by Ground Support this morning for a quick coffee. Good vibe, nice space, and my favorite touch was the shelves of old National Geographics lining the wall. There's also an interesting psuedo-exit/outdoor area with a bench where you can sit and gaze at the window of the adjoining store and contemplate the meaning of it all if you wish. $1.50 for a small coffee - the cup was quite small, but the coffee (Intelligentsia) was great. I went to look for a lid but the smallest ones they had out were actually too large for my wee cup, but the barista was very helpful and sweet. Great coffee shop to work and hang out for a while. Tons of people bring their laptops and spend a couple hours there each day. This place was SAVED by a chai tea latte that rivals probably any you'd find in Bali and a ginger cookie, that rendered me speechless. It was the most delicious thing I've tasted all year, probably in the last 2 years. I can't even describe it, you need to taste one for yourself. Before I finished the first one, I'd ordered 2 more. At $7.50, for 3 cookies, that's saying something. The food, gets 5 stars, easily, but alas... The guy who took order is a rude pretentious snob, who can't be bothered with smiling or much eye contact but had no problem snatching the ATM card from my hand, so he only gets 1 star. From the outside, it doesn't look like much but once you set foot into the cafe, it is a relaxing environment. They don't have a huge selection of coffee options which made me approach this place with trepidation at first. The way you order your coffee was based on coffee cups in front of the register. I ordered a mocha and used a middle sized coffee cup as the size I wanted. The price is comparable to Starbucks so it was a treat to me. They have long wooden benches or a counter you can sit at to relax and enjoy your coffee. Mine was brought to me and had pretty latte art on it. The coffee itself was very smooth, mellow, and had a deep undertone to it (which is my favorite coffee flavor profile). I thoroughly enjoyed my cup of mocha and will be stopping by the next time I'm in town! read more

great ambiance if you're looking for a good vibes spot to chill out / study / etc. lots of sunlight coming in and nice communal wooden tables. they also have tables more near the back, though it's more cramped. standard cafe prices, their coffee is good, but not amazing. my biggest complaint is that the wifi is hard to connect to/completely unusable. at their peak times, it gets super crowded too so you might not be able to find seats. read more

Cool coffee house channeling early 90's Seattle grunge. Stopped in here because they have Chemex coffee. They have 3 selections daily for Chemex instead of drip so if that is your thing this is one of the few places it is available. We stayed for the comfortable chill atmosphere, wi-fi, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Hole, etc. It also was big enough that we were able to get seats mid-day. read more

Excellent caffeine and tasty pastries. It's also a great place to "pretty people" watch (we are in SoHo after all). Nice interior with plenty of tables and indoor/outdoor spots to sit. And yes, free (crappy) WiFi is available should you choose to accept it. Cool tech implementation that they don't need to ask your name when you use plastic to pay. No more mispronouncing my name as "Jon" instead if "John". In exchange for all this gloriousness, you'll get THE most stereotypical snooty, hipster baristas this side of W. Broadway. I used to say "thank you", but kept getting odd looks, so now I just throw some side-eye as I grab my damn double shot, almond milk latte to wash down that delicious pumpkin, banana pecan muffin. Whenever I try out a new coffee joint, I always order the coffee hot, even if it's scorching outside. My rationale being that if the coffee is not tainted by ice and dilution, I get a better read on the caliber and taste thereof. Ground Support delivered. It is the middle of the day and the coffee tastes fresh pressed- none of that minerally, nuked taste. Moreover, the architectural design of the space is cool and refreshing; flanked by rustic benches you can saddle up to and a kickback staff devoid of the pretentious attitude SoHo is notorious for. Ground Support is simultaneously clean, simple and eclectic. If you want to set up for a while, you can do so; bring your laptop and enjoy free Internet and sample their expansive menu of artisan sandwiches or pastries. Or, if you're just in need of a refresher, contingent on weather, sit in the window, people watch, and cool off or warm up accordingly. read more

This place gets six stars. Besides going here for my own breaks, I often order upwards of 20 drinks at a time for my office. I've ordered them and picked them up myself and also called them in for delivery when I've been too busy to get them myself. These guys are so organized I can't imagine what coffee runs would be like for me and my coworkers with a different cafe. They are also incredibly quick in preparing my mass orders, which is great because I don't feel completely self conscious because the line isn't held up for long. Anytime I've had an issue with an order it's been dealt with quickly and without any hiccups. I don't understand any of these reviews dogging on the staff. They're nothing but professional, warm, funny and frankly fucking cool. A few of my favorites from the menu: -ginger cookie -almond milk latte -turkey sandwich, which has chips and BBQ sauce in the sandwich....incredible! Go and have a good time! read more

I work in the neighborhood and go here almost every day for coffee (sometimes twice). It's one of my favorite coffee shops ever. The coffee is darn good, the prices are reasonable, and the lines are always much shorter than a certain chain coffee joint down the street. Their pastries are great--fresh and sweet but not cloying (try the almond croissant). The sandwiches are phenomenal--good bread, creative without being precious (try the prosciutto with arugula). It's a great place to people watch, but a bit noisy for meetings or work. The baristas are young and fashionable, but actually smile and say 'hello' and 'thank-you' like they mean it! Soho can be pretty alienating with its too-cool-for-you attitude, but Ground Support is a welcome and surprising change of pace. And it might sound weird, but the bathroom is clean, out of the way, and usually not occupied. For someone of the older, dorkier persuasion, this is the trifecta. My only complaint: the only artificial sweetener there is Splenda (I like Equal). Probably not an issue for most people. read more

I was on a walk in the neighborhood, feeling like sipping on something and I stumble upon this cute little coffee shop, filled with people on a block that seemed quite desolate at the time. Given the crowd, place must be legit haha. I ordered a cappuccino with almond milk and I LOVED it! I usually drink my coffee black when out because rarely do coffee shops carry almond milk (which is what I drink at home). It was heavenly creamy and fluffy, the coffee was great and it made my walk home very yummy. Will return :) read more

Yay! This coffee place is quite sweet and comfy. I stopped in here with two friends to get a little pick-me-up after spending a few hours at the Volta NY Artfair. I got a chai tea latte which was amazingly delicious. We were kind of hanging at the counter when one of the employees offered to grab a few chairs for us. It was surprising how nice and accommodating he was, and I guess that's why this place made an impact in my mind and I'm able to write this review right now. There are picnic table-styled seats, seats at the counter/bar, and a few benches scattered throughout the whole coffee shop. There were a few people with their computers click-clacking away, so I assume there is free wifi too. I mean, what coffee shop can survive without free wifi? read more

There is nothing worse than West Broadway on a Saturday afternoon. I literally want to pull out all my hair squeezing through the tourist traffic. If you're about to do some retail therapy on a weekend and ready to do some credit card damage, I suggest you to take a breather at Ground Support before venturing out. I was so happy to find this zen of a coffee shop to ease me back .. to me after trucking through soho on a weekend. This is a fantastic coffee shop (tourist free!!). Lots are catching up on there paper reading, ipad reading, laptop reading.. you get the picture. During the springtime, all the doors and windows are open so "fresh" air will be breezing through the shop. Noise and talking are pretty minimal; music is on but not on too loudly. They have a wide range of uniquely flavored teas; I got the coconut almond tea. The tea was absolutely delicious, got me obsessed with the flavor that I had to get a second cup. I got a grilled cheese as well and it was so delicious!! I love when you take a bite and the cheese strings out forever. It's an open kitchen so you can see them actually make the sandwiches. I came here to catch up with a girlfriend of mine, it was a great place to do that! The ambiance is chill, no frills, but by no means hole in the wall (you are in soho), very much chic and soho appropriate. This is a place with fantastic drinks, snacks and atmosphere! read more

They get three stars merely for being one of the larger sized coffee shops in Soho. Plenty of cute seating all up and through here. Mainly picnic table style. If you're rolling with a group, claim your territory early. They get one additional star for playing conscious and classic hip hop at 1pm on a Tuesday. They lose a star for having a pretentious staff. The cashier gave me attitude for asking him for a dessert recommendation. Then I got shade for asking for less almond milk in my iced coffee. Customer service isn't their strong suit. The clientele here was pretty diverse but I'd say it's primarily grad students, entrepreneurs and hipsters. read more

sure, a standard for a downtown coffee shop not following the corporate, generic model was set ages ago. but ground support's owner has joined the small group of food businesses taking this further, working behind the counter, getting to know customers and serving people's coffee and food right along with the welcoming, genuine staff that sets this place apart from other basic coffee joints. here you can get your intelligentsia coffee, muffins and unique sandwiches made on site from someone you are allowed to know. and like. steven is your friend. "hipster" lost all meaning ages ago as well so I don't know how other reviewers define the word but I do think everyone can appreciate the myrtle broadway vibe the workers here bring to a rather effete part of soho in a space that could easily have become another stuffy establishment (i'm looking at you across the street Ladurée, with your €7 rose & raspberry religieuse). one of the cool things at ground support is that if you can manage to get there before the morning rush (it will be early) and mumble out some half-awake unintelligible word, they know how to just go and make whatever it was that you wanted appear. read more

A fun, convenient coffee shop that is perfectly situated in the heart of Soho that is exciting and inspiring for the customer base it draws rather than the drinks offered. The layout is perfect for a small space, and wooden bench by the window for people watching is awesome in an ironic way. Communal tables are a beautiful touch. Really good quality espresso! While I call myself a coffee connesouir, I really just love lattes flavored with something sweet...so maybe I am more of a coffee wimp? Anyway, I came here after an hour of waiting in the crazy line for cronuts around the corner at The Dominique Ansel bakery. I was in need of some caffeine! What I really like about this place is that they don't have a long list of flavored syrups, they don't even have one as a matter of fact. This caused me to get out of my comfort zone since I always order a flavored latte. After embarrassing myself by asking what flavors they offer, the barista recommended that I try one of their lattes sweetened with honey...deal! This latte turned out to be delicious...the honey gave it just enough sweetness, while letting the great espresso come through. read more

For some reason, I thought that I needed to do schoolwork during my spring break in NYC. This was false, and I should never of been allowed to. But, considering I wake up 5 hours before Gster, I needed to occupy my time with something. I wanted to find a cafe to do my work in, but come on, it was NYC... I couldn't just go to the Starbucks down the street. Ground Support was just a few blocks from my hotel, and was on a great street in SoHo. I went a few times during my stay, and was always impressed. The atmosphere is relaxing, productive, and artsy. They have long picnic benches, that I shared with all the other studious hipsters (While I had my lemonade... and they had their lattes) . I was very impressed with their cookies, and their grilled cheese. It had excellent people watching, and I learned a lot from listening to all the people around me. Typically, I don't like doing work in cafes, but, i realized how much I truly do love learning about strangers... and what better way than a coffee shop. As for the coffee, I am allergic to coffee.... so I didn't try it. I guess it doesn't really make much sense for me to go to coffee shops. Consistently good coffee. My staple elsewhere is always a latte with two pumps of a selective few flavored syrups. Receiving a latte with no option of flavored syrups here and still feeling it is the best cup I have had in awhile, speaks to the quality of coffee they use here and the barista's added touch. I highly recommend this place. While I haven't tried the food, based on people in line often ordering various food options, I imagine it is just as good. Enjoy! read more

I come into this shop every once and a while when I'm in the neighborhood. Great drip coffee and cold brew (I do miss the old espresso). This is a quintessential spot to stop into while in SoHo. The staff members are extremely friendly and seem to always be having a wonderful time together, especially the girls I often see at the front of the cafe when I come in, they're always kind and complimentary. However, I have had a few rude interactions with one staff member particularly. He always seems to be in an awful mood whenever I ask him simple questions about the coffee they now serve, I notice him on his cell phone huffing and puffing around. The other members of the staff are nice enough to offer me a helping hand, but he seems to be in a bad mood and I have yet to enjoy my time at Ground Support while he's there. read more

This is a very hip, relaxed cafe with some awesome espresso and baked goods. The baristas are fantastic and the hip, wood benches are great for people-watching in trendy Soho. My espresso was great and the prosciutto sandwich was delish, with plenty of prosciutto, taleggio, strawberry jam, arugula, and basil on grilled sourdough. It's definitely a creative, tasty combination of flavors. My tourist feet stumbled on this oasis in search of refreshment on a very hot day. Understandably quite crowded on a weekend day, the line moved pretty quick and the nice, friendly attractive employees made it a cheerful event to purchase their coffee and a snack. The tables are quite close together and you have to climb and squeeze to get a spot but there was enough room once you got there (no thanks to the young lady that refused to acknowledge that people were needing to climb over her bags). In the alleged Stumptown v. Intelligentsia showdown, I am squarely in camp Dunkin' Donuts. But you can't really meet your old roomie for breakfast on a Friday morning at a Dunkin', so nicer cafes are in order. This is a good one. Their whole wheat everything bagel is a lot like the one at Bagels on the Square, and Ground Support has nice picnic tables inside and benches outside. The iced coffee was strong and fresh. Organic vegan macaroon? Eh. Not so good. It's a clean, rustic feeling space that's good for working. Of late, Ground Support has become a regular part of my Saturday mornings. read more

I feel like the name could be Ground Control like from the David Bowie song... They are cool enough and all. Good spot, as cafe-able as many in Brooklyn, and somehow right here in Soho. Wow. Very nice espresso shots, and a cafe with communal tables make it easy to stop in there and hangout. What's more in the back there is a skylight. I always find it amazing that there are a lot of stores and spaces in Soho with these great big skylights. Us cafe goers are lucky to have this new addition. read more

I love this place... I was walking with my friends and yelped this on my phone. I'm really glad I went in and checked it out it's a quiet cafe, with benches, perfect for a beautiful day. It has free wifi, and is a great place to grab a coffee with a friend or go alone and read a book, or like me go with some friends and search for a job together. I am not a so called "regular" at any cafe. Its not that i haven't found a place that's up to my coffee-delightfulness-standards, but, rather, that I am overwhelmed by living in a city full of such great coffee. No matter how good a cappuccino a cafe turns out, no matter how cozy the tables and no matter how charming the baristas tend to be, there is always a new place that I find myself absolutely needing to investigate. But still, how I managed to only visit "Ground Support" twice is a coffee sin - especially because I live just one block away! This cafe manages ro rise well above the medicore tourist traps littering the rest of SOHO's busy sidewalks. The lattes are hot and pretty. The baristas are patient helpful. The wooden tables add a nice rustic touch. But don't just go there for the coffee, Ground Support's sandwiches are not to be missed! Today i tried their veg sandwich which I was thrilled to discover was filled not with the typical snooze-fest of hummus and avocado. What I bit into was an extremely pleasing combination of cauliflower, goat's milk feta, mango pickle aioli, radicchio, and tomato. This was a sandwich with crunch, tangyness, creamyness, and a pleasant bitterness (from the radicchio). Finally, I always make sure not to leave without purchasing a bag of their special Intelligesta beans in their exclusive ground support blend, which produces my favorite drip coffee in the city. I go there almost everyday because it's right across the street from my work. and this morning, as I am drinking their coffee while I am writing this (don't tell my boss.. shh..), I thought "I am addicted." Their coffee is so soft, not too acidic, creamy and slightly nutty. Whatever crazy request I will ask for, they will fulfill it like magicians and say "voila." This morning I asked for skim milk latte with a spoonful of foam, and before I realized I was licking inside the lid because the foam was just so darn delicious. Their sandwich is a-okay, nothing too inspiring. I think you can get better sandwiches in this area somewhere else anyway. Their Peanut butter and jelly sandwich with tiny baguette is really good and innovative tho. Pair it with their coffee and you will have a perfect start of the day. read more

A little tad expensive but I guess not for the neighbourhood. The sunlit interior makes staying inside here all day to work not a bad prospect. There are tons of seats and benches, but they get quite full almost all day! The food selection is good here too for your all-day sit-ins. Pro-tip: food is discounted after 7pm. read more

Great coffeehouse in SoHo with my beloved Intelligentsia coffee. We came here for a quick break after the family dragged me around shopping, and thoroughly enjoyed myself with a delicious proscuitto-and-brie sandwich and latte. The plus side is, this place has very knowledgable baristas that know their stuff -- I bugged the counter guy for a good recommendation on a pound of coffee and he gave me an in-depth explanation on what he thought I'd like. Yum! Stuff here is a bit on the pricey side, and I'm not sure if that's the neighbourhood speaking for the prices -- however, I loved the mishmash of benches in the front and the skylit space in the back. I can completely imagine myself spending a nice morning here on a laptop or with a book. read more
