I ordered the grilled cheese sandwich which is a pressed grilled cheese with no butter on the bread so it tasted like a dry toast sandwich. I ordered a cappuccino and the espresso taste very bitter and burnt and the milk was at least 185 degrees I should know since I do this all the time for a living. read more

I've driven by Grounds for years and have always wanted to try it. Finally got around to it last year when the pandemic started, so while I've only ever done take out, I've gotten to try a good variety of things on their menu and have enjoyed everything I've had so far. The staff are always wearing masks and gloves, and there is hand sanitizer available. Their coffee and lattes are always good, as are the pastries (love the muffins), bagels, sandwiches (the veggie is my fave), and pizza! I love my variety, and this is a great spot for that. Was in the parking lot and met an associate outside before she clocked in. She was so sweet and her name was Lea. She was giving me recommendations and telling me how I would love the food and ambiance, so I gave it a try! It was pretty disheartening when I went in because it seemed like other associates were mistreating her and discriminating against her. As a union worker and a guest of this establishment, I do not stand by this at all. Watching this happen made me really sad and frustrated because the food was great and Lea did give me a great recommendation. Sadly, I won't be returning here because of this. Wow! A great BLT. I had the BLT on toasted pumpernickel with green leaf, tomatoes, cucumber and mayonnaise. I liked the bread, it was airy and light. The evenness of the slices of tomatoes were beautifully layered to perfection. I loved everything about the sandwich from the way it was wrapped, to the appearance of the presentation to the flavor and textures. I used to like coming here and would look forward to a gluten free sandwich. But the last few times I've not been happy with either the service or my order. Today I ordered a gluten free sandwich for myself, which was ok and a tuna sandwich for my husband, which had very little tuna. They specifically asked what sides we wanted...1 potato salad and 1 macaroni salad. But, they gave us 2 macaroni salads. I understand that mistakes happen, but for the cost of the meal, I would expect for someone to check and make sure orders are correct. Once I got home, I realized that it was incorrect. It wouldn't be a big deal if it were something I could eat, but I'm gluten free and cannot have macaroni salad. Adorable small bakery with delicious breakfast sandwiches! This is a wonderful place to come and sit for a little while or meet a friend. The bagels are typical Southern California style (more bread than bagel) but the topings are delicious. I really appreciated their iced tea (they have the usual peak coca cola brand garbage concentrate but also brew their own -- the way tea should be made -- the tropical iced tea was delicious!). Also, the employees are younger but professional and I never once had an issue with attitude or my order. Sometimes, they have had phone issues but I just order online. Now for the food, first off, to the person who buys all the baguettes, please leave at lease one. They serve fresh baked bread, toasted, which helps make for a good sandwich. Wow! Rainy day 2.3.17 so I googled sourdough bread in Long Beach .. for some reason I was craving bread .. so this spot popped up. I walk in and ordered the Turkey Avocado sandwich with Squaw bread and a small Clam Chowder Soup! OMG Bombbbbbbbbb !!! The soup is creamy and perfect on the salt. My sandwich thee best in town!!! You guys have to try this spot solely on the Clam Chowder Soup ... omg the best !!! Customer service at the register was not too pleasant. Wow, gone downhill... $6 ham cheese omelette sandwich had one piece of ham on it. Also I thought omelettes come with veggies, why is there an extra charge? So they charged us extra for veggies and forgot to even put them on my wife's sandwich and we had to take it back to get fixed. Just call it a egg sandwich if that's all that comes on it. I've come here a few times and I got to say the bagels are good they are kind of small. I got the bacon and cheese omelet bagel sandwich and was really bummed to see the amount of bacon they gave me and I know for fact they use great value bacon. Literally looked like McDonald's bacon and I paid another 2 bucks for cream cheese and they barely put any on there. I paid almost 11 dollars for some mediocre small breakfast Sandwich that if it had actual quality ingredients I wouldn't complain. Being German, the number one most important food is bread. Twice a day, meals consist of it. Living here and trying to find great, good or even descent bread is next to impossible. It is always too soft, too artificial, just plain wrong. I was excited to see that grounds sells loaves of bread, something every bakery in Germany does, here you find mostly pastries. The space is nice, pretty big, clean, well kept and I love that they offer day old baked goods at half off. Service was nice and I purchased both a bag of 6 day old bagels at just over $3 and a loaf of day old bread. The bagels were fine, it was a variety, you really can't go wrong with a toasted everything bagel. The bread though, sigh, the bread REALLY sucked. Every loaf, seeded, light or dark, looked and felt like a loaf of toast. The flavor not there, sliced and toasted it was fine, like toast, but not like a good loaf of bread should be. You should really never even HAVE to toast, good bread tastes amazing the first day and two weeks later, yes TWO weeks later, here bread turns green by the end of the week. If you can squish your loaf of bread into a tiny ball, it is not real bread. That is the stuff we would feed to the ducks, while we ate real bread, thick, crusty, loaded with real whole grains, seeds and nuts, never gets soggy on you no matter what you pile on it, but good enough by itself or with just a pat of butter. Sorry Grounds, I won't be back. read more

My husband found this place was not far from where we were staying in Long Beach on our last trip to the West Coast. Based on a few reviews it sounded like it would fit the bill for breakfast. For each visit, I ordered the #9 Bagel with smoked salmon, cream cheese & capers. For my bagel I went with the garlic cheddar and for my cream cheese I decided on the cucumber dill. After the first visit I was hooked. While my husband changed his order up with each visit, I just couldn't resist the deliciousness that is a #9 breakfast sandwich. There was plenty of lox, just the right amount of briny capers, and a healthy schmear of cream cheese. The bagel was crunchewy. Soft but well toasted. A glorious exercise in gluten tolerance. I can understand how they won 'Best Bagel' FIVE years in a row. Grounds is definitely a neighborhood favorite and we will probably find ourselves here again on future visits. read more
