I discovered this place way back in 2005 when I used to work in Long Beach. My then employer brought us a few boxes of there bagels with many tubs of cream cheese. Man it was the best bagel I have ever had. I could have sworn I had posted a review of this place before. Oh well here it is now. I'm so glad in was one of the many small businesses to survive the pandemic. I would periodically return here whenever I returned to the area. I like how they prepare your bagel. They sandwich it with the cream cheese in between and cut it into 4 equal pieces making it easy to eat on the road and while walking. The service is great as well however they need to put up sanctions cause not everyone is aware of someone is ahead of them or not. My previous visit a grouchy old man just kinda walked up and angrily barked his order like he didn't see me looking at all the bagels to decide which one I want. I did bring it up to the cashiers attention. Still anyway I got my extremely delicious bagel anyway. It's a nice little shop with outdoor seating as well. It does get kinda crowded so if you don't like noise then it's best to get your orders to go. I'm not a coffee person so I can't rate that part sorry. I like the bagels as they are. They do have sandwich options. But to me that's like pineapple on pizza. Some things just don't always seem to agree. Just remember it's a breakfast joint so they close early in the day. Grounds is offically on my shit list. Speaking of I need to make the ATGs Blacklist spots list. Now your probably wondering how do you go from 4stars to an 1 star in a few months, well im about to explain! So the food is 4 stars and very solid. I would read other reviews about how spotty and incoherent the employees were, but it never happened to me til last week! I would come in on a basis so its not like im new. Either way no one deserves to be ignored at any spot! So I do my usual thing by calling in my order, so I can get in and out less than 5 minutes right! So I put in an order for breakfast and lunch, very simple order. So I come in about 12minutes or so and I go straight to the supposedly expeditious phone orders line. I wait and wait and wait and WAIT while employees are running around aimlessly doing nothing really. Im thinking is anyone going to say I'll be with you in a minute, I got none of that. I see people that ordered their shit in the regular line and getting served im really fuming now. Its not my responsibility to come get your ass to help me. I mean fuck what is the point of calling it in when now your making me late to work! So while im still standing there, I call my mom and tell her whats going on. Im complaining kind of loud at this point so they can hear me. That didn't do the trick. So I see an order sitting by itself on the counter to the right. I read the order and it well lookey here, its my food thats been sitting and sitting and SITTING there! So I take my food and go. They didn't notice me heisting my grub. THANKS GROUNDS your food is delish but it tastes even better when YOU guys paid for it that day. This afternoon I headed over to Grounds Bakery And Cafe. The cafe is quiet and unassuming, it is clean staffed with nice people young and old. The menu has many choices this is what I chose. I ordered the Turkey avacado sandwich it was dressed with sliced turkey, sliced tomato,sprouts,mayo and avacado on a buttery croissant. The sandwich was very good it had a perfect amount of mayo and dijon mustard the sprouts were nice and crunchy, a small amount of sliced turkey,two small thin slices of tomato it needed more, I didn't care for the lettuce it had a funny taste and If they added a bit more turkey, sliced white cheese heck even some spicy cheese it could be so much better. As you kids like to say "JUST SAYIN" The sandwich was very good and I would buy this again if they get the portions right. Make sure that you get a cool drink to go with it. I also bought the Pastrami it came on light rye bread dressed lightly with mustard no pickles, "SAY WHAT " does this place know that it is a sin to leave off the pickles! I almost forgot they added white cheese that was melted it was very creamy and yummy. I have to admit the sandwich smelled delicious it smelled so good my bird Beavis flew over to get some. Sorry Popi ..This sandwich is mine! The bread had a tangy taste almost like sourdough the meat was sandwich style pastrami it had a nice not too salty taste. The mustard was really good I would definitely eat this again.. BTW...the meat portion was just right. FYI..The next day place the leftovers on a plate microwave 30seconds it tasted just like the day it was made without the bread getting hard. I also bought an Everything Bagel toasted with cream cheese it looks delicious albeit a bit anemic on the cream cheese. I also bought a Garlic Bagel toasted with extra cream cheese boy am I glad I asked for extra it needed it, they tasted fantastic nice and soft very creamy. Last of all I bought two Muffins one Chocolate Chip and one Mandarin orange., The Chocolate chip has a nice soft interior with a rich chocolate flavor loaded with chips, sprinkled with powdered sugar it has a nice chocolate flavor. The Mandarin Orange had no real orange flavor that was a surprise, however it was soft,very tender with a nice crunchy sugar topping I will have that one with my coffee. The flan was alright just a bit too sweet for me. I bought a lot today because, I make it my mission to get what I want for the next day or in this case the next two. Usually the food is good and prepared nicely. However, my last visit did not live up to my expectations. I ordered the tuna melt - the bread was not toasted, the small amount of tuna was disappointing, and the cheese was almost non-e xistent. For the prices they charge, you'd expect better. I have always loved Grounds. However, I ordered 2 Pastrami sandwiches minus the cheese. They came with a side so I ordered chips. The bill was over $26. The pastrami's came with little mustard and no pickles, wth? I have never eaten a pastrami sandwich without pickles Thank goodness I had mustard at home to add to it. I don't know if they raised their prices and cut back on the quality of their food because of Covid or not, but next time I'm craving a pastrami sandwich I will go to volcano burger. read more

On the pros side: everything is customizable. They have a vegetarian sandwich that has stuff like sprouts, avocado, tomato, etc. They can add spinach if you want, and take out anything. Mayo and type of mustard can be changed too. The problem is, it's pretty bland. No real taste to it. Bread was good- toasted. Add cheese. It helps the flavor of the sandwich. Their bagels are great, though. Soft, chewy, and crunchy when toasted. Cream cheese was spread pretty evening, and there was enough not to complain about stinginess. Service was friendly and accommodating. There's so much that a new-comer like me had lots of questions. They were patient and offered lots of suggestions and information. They have a bunch of coffee. BEST BAGELS EVER!!!! Personally I think they have the best bagels because they are a bit softer than the average bagel. You can literally eat it a day later without it being hard as a rock (with proper storage of course lol). They also have a wide variety of flavors to choose from. It does get super busy during the morning rush so expect to wait a bit but it is definitely worth it. Their coffee is okay, just the average cup of Joe but their bagels and other pastries are the way to go. It's literally 1000x better than Einstein's Bros, I have yet to find another bakery that makes bagels as delicious as these. read more

Every single time I walk through their door, I become utterly overwhelmed by all that there is to choose from. I never leave with just one order. My orders usually contain a soup, which have NEVER disappointed, a bakery item for the next day, a lunch and something sweet for after lunch. The bagels and croissants were delicious! The place is usually very busy but we were able to order and get a table quickly. I don't like that the breakfast bagels and sandwiches don't come with a side of anything. If you want a side you have to order a lunch sandwich. We are creatures of habit. I started going to Grounds after having a business meeting there - we had lunch and the entire store was a vibe. It truly feels like Grounds is a place for the community!!! I now go to grounds bakery often before frisbee golfing at El Dorado Park and because of the Pandemic, I began to phone in my small and short order so I could be in and out! And I'm so glad I phone in because I learned someone else amazing out them! One of the things that I have come to love about Grounds is their personable and friendly care for their customers. I usually go for their lunch sandwiches of coffee only (which is really good). We tried their breakfast bagel sandwiches this Saturday morning and they were unbelievable. My previous rating of 5 "have driven from south Orange County just for breakfast goodies" dropped to "having no interested in buying any scones." The new scones are very dense and heavy. Grounds was recommended by a friend. First impression was not great because the employee that greeted us was not friendly and seemed bored. We ordered the calabresa and meat skillet breakfasts and coffees. Although there was no flavored creamer for my husband, the coffees were outstanding. Very hot just the way they should be. The skillets were good too except that when the same unfriendly employee brought the skillets to us, we didn't know which was which because they just threw it down in front of us. The saddest was the utensils that you are supposed to eat the skillet is the cheapest plastic knife & fork. I would definitely go back again for the coffee, maybe try a sandwich and maybe a skillet breakfast but I would get it to go and eat it with a real fork. read more

I'm used to having tomato and sprouts in a salmon bagel sandwich. I was quite disappointed to see the tiny amount of salmon and smear of cream cheese in my bagel. I wouldn't call this a sandwich to be honest. I've had Grounds sandwiches in the past and normally packed with veggie goodness. I guess I expected a bit too much. I like this place. The people are nice and patient. The food is tasty and the coffee is good. I feel they skimp a little on the cream cheese even when they charge extra $1.50. (-1 Star). It is really a hassle getting a Wi-Fi password every time we come in. First you have to ask someone then it takes a while to generate and print a random password. Then entering random user id and a random password all while wondering "is that the letter O or a zero? Capital i or small L?" Yes, I finished my bagel already while all that is happening. And since my wife wants to connect too we need two random passwords. Five minutes of effort for the 10 or so minutes we are there. And the worst thing is the internet connection is slow and crappy! (-1 Star although I debated -2 stars). That said, this place is MUCH better then the other bagel place in the area Update: ToGo orders are treated as second class. Instead of putting bagels in a box and getting you on your way you are ignored often with people behind you getting there sit down orders faster. Don't come here! read more

I love their food for a casual breakfast/brunch/lunch. Their bakery items are fresh and delicious. Their bagels especially cannot be beat with storebought. What I especially like, and a big part of why I keep coming here, is that the employees show that they actually care about your experience. They are eager to fix any mistakes with your order, or even fix something you just aren't happy with. The sandwiches are mostly about $9 or so depending on what you get, which I feel is a little on the high end for something you can make at home pretty easily and way cheaper. But for those who are happy to pay for that kind of thing - I highly recommend it. It's versatile, too. They are usually pretty good about getting you out the door fast when you walk in to order takeout. You can order over the phone or website too for faster pickup (but last time I tried the website I couldn't get it to work). I discovered this place on yelp and is a simple sandwich place that you can mix whatever you want. I usually love my order online then simply go to the pick up counter because it's usually always busy. There's also a kiosk right by the door you can order from and then go take a seat by the pick up area til your name is called. I love their turkey avocado sandwiches with sprouts. I think I'm going to continue ordering my same and favorite sandwich til I get sick of it then try something else or who knows. Oh also the potato salad is greaaaat with the sandwich. My manager brought me here last month for brunch. It is your simple sandwich place, but they have all kinds of breads, freshly made. For me who loves bread? This is paradise. I don't like bagels that much but they have other choices. Fast forward today, came here with my boyfriend and he loves it. Food is very good, and breakfast has a lot of choices.
