Your service has gone downhill lately. Forgot juice. Added mushrooms to omelet when I said NO mushrooms. They were bearable until today. Today is the worst of all days. We ordered via mobile app because their phone line has been busy nonstop. So we ordered. It said it'll be ready 10:19am. We got there. We were greeted and we gave our name. 40 minutes of nothing. All other cars got their food but us. Workers kept on coming out and handing out other people's order and neglected us. So we went inside and asked for our food. They were lost. No idea what they were doing. Apparently either they never started cooking or left our food on shelf becoming too cold and then said found our ticket. Then said food will come out soon. Nothing. For next 10 minutes. Finally when we went inside again, our food was brought out. Mushrooms in our omelette after we typed in THREE times "no mushrooms! No mushrooms! No mushrooms!!!" Dined in for a breakfast on a Saturday in JAN 2022. Upon arrival, a host gave us a number. We waited in line for 5 - 10 minutes to order at the register, gave her our number, and found our table, marked by a numbered plastic pig figurine. Coffee was self-serve; everything else was brought to the table by a server. Omelets were delivered in about eight minutes. They were disappointing: although amply sized, the fillings were lacking. Both the Spanish and Sabrosos omelets were bland. I found only a single ¼-inch sliver of avocado in my Sabrosos omelet. There was not a trace of heat to it, in spite of it supposedly containing "jalapeno bacon and pepper jack cheese." Spoiler Alert..........The Grump's Favorite Omelet is nasty!!!!!! I am a huge fan of both locations of this great local restaurant but was sadly disappointed today with my breakfast. A friend and I stopped by today for a midmorning bite to eat. Grump's is always busy and well worth the wait (on most days) NOT TODAY. I ordered the Grump's Favorite Omelet with grits and white toast. My friend ordered the bacon stuffed waffle with a side of sausage. Our food came out in record time. (after waiting for 10 minutes for our table to be ready). Having been the first time I ordered the Grump's favorite Omelet I was excited to get. The food is normally awesome at this location in the past. First, the omelet was cold, which I can forgive, but the fact that I maybe had two tablespoons of what appeared to be canned corn beef hash in the middle was unacceptable. Come on Grump's, you have amazing food, why not make fresh corn beef hash and give your customer more than the small portion size. Other restaurants in your area do. As far as my friend's meal, she enjoyed her cold waffle and overcooked sausage links. Your patrons work hard for their money and we are willing to pay 10-20 dollars along with waiting in line to eat at your restaurant. The least you can do it provide homecooked, warm, and tasty food. Again, I love your restaurant but am not impressed at all with this visit. I will not stop frequenting your establishment, useless however this one-time occurrence turns into a tread. So disappointed that I wasted my Sunday morning breakfast here. I want to start by saying the employees were very friendly. But the food was just gross!! I got a breakfast burrito with sausage and requested home fries inside of it. They gave me some barely cooked cut potatoes on the side. No seasoning or onions/peppers or anything and they were still hard. The burrito was just basic... I asked for salsa to go with it and they brought me a steaming hot bowl of spaghetti sauce (yuck) so i used hot sauce to make it a little better. Okay, so this is a spot that we have noticed consistently receives high ratings, but it just never looked like a type of restaurant with the kind of ambience I like for breakfast so I ignored it for some time, but as a brunch lover, I eventually caved in and went for brunch recently. When you enter you're notified of your tabletop mascot, an animal shaped object that will be placed on your assigned table once you are done ordering your meal. You do have to place your order at the counter, and then walk over to the seating area to look for your mascot. If you order drinks, you will have to get them yourself, including coffee. The inside of the restaurant is a bit small and was crowded the day we went in. The ambience is exactly what I thought from the outside, a bit diner/ smaller Cracker Barrel style, but too crowded in a tight space. The food itself was good. Large servings and generally delicious and I was able to do my usual egg white substitute for a small up charge. The French toast was not my favorite though, tasted like bread with syrup, not French toast with syrup. Cashier also allowed us to switch a fountain coke for a couple of canned coke zeros which was nice. All in all, I will go back, but I wouldn't eat there on a busy day again, I may on a quiet day, or I may just order to go and eat at home. read more

Came to brunch with one of my girlfriends. The 1st thing I noticed was the line out the door! Granted, it was a Saturday morning. The line did move quickly. I always say, long line, equals good food. 2nd thing I noticed, the staff wears Grumps tshirts with pajama bottoms. Who wouldn't want to work in their pjs?! When you get thru the door, you are greeted by a host who shows you a plastic child's toy with your table number written on it, ours was a pink pig with the #49. Cute and different. You're given menus to review as you wait in line to reach the register to place your order. After ordering, we found our table with the pink plastic pig. My OJ was already on the table, my gf went to the coffee bar to get her own coffee. The coffee mugs are all different, like they were brought from home. Another cute idea. The one negative was we asked the cashier for water, she didn't tell us we had to get it ourselves, nor where to get it from. Same with the coffee, my gf just watched what everyone else was doing. On to the food. I had the fresh blueberry pancakes. So light and fluffy, full of blueberries. It was the 1st item on the menu I saw and kept going back. The cinnamon butter and syrup were extra delicious! I had a few choices of sides, sweet cream hash potatoes, which I went with, fried hash potatoes and grits. I also chose a side of grits and paid extra. I love grits! There's were okay, just okay. I've had better and I've had worse. The sweet cream hash potatoes were so good! Different but good. My girlfriend had the Tooz, two eggs cooked your way, two pancakes or french toast, two sausage or bacon. She also had an extra side of grits and agreed on the just okay. If you are looking for a yummy, family friendly restaurant that serves comfort food, Grump's is the place to go! After living in Crofton for a year and hearing about Grumps, I finally decided to give this place a shot and I was not disappointed. Here are reasons why: 1. Laid back feel: come in your PJs and feel right at home. You order at the counter and then find a seat. There are indoor and outdoor seating (heaters work well too!) 2. Place serves breakfast all day and then lunch and dinner options (who doesn't love breakfast for dinner?) 3. Excellent portions at even better prices! 4. Best part - delicious food! I had my breakfast favorite of corn beef and hash with egg and I devoured my dish. Not salty and was very good! Kids ordered pancakes and eggs and they loved it! One of my sons really liked how bacon is embedded in the pancakes and coupled with the cinnamon butter = amaaaazing. Happy kids make a content mama. My husband got the sunrise omelette and I enjoyed the flavorful bite. Very quick service and once you walk in you can tell this place has a local feel. I went there for breakfast on a Sunday morning and it seems like as soon as I sat down that's when everyone else decided to have breakfast at the same time. The setup is a bit different from most diners as you choose your food option first and then get seated. Usually I am use to it being the other way around of being seated then you place your order. No biggie as the menu is very simple and to make picking your selection very easy. Some places have. Menu that rivals novels but Grumps keeps it simple. I went with the Big Bubba breakfast which consisted of three eggs three pieces of French toast and three pieces of sausage. The breakfast was good and fulfilling with you receiving a decent amount of food for what you pay. As I said the breakfast was good but nothing that wowed me to say oh I have to comeback. This is not to say it was not a good experience but the breakfast met the expectations of what you expect in a diner. This was my first visit and I have already recommended it to a few people. The employee I interacted with was extremely helpful and had cherry personality. I was able to be seated right away and the wait for food was very quick. The food came out hot and the pancakes were delicious. My toddler LOVED the kiddo waffles! My only little complaint would be that I ordered fruit instead of bacon/sausage, but never received it. But, it wasn't that big of a deal because I really enjoyed my pancakes. This has rapidly become our go-to breakfast joint in Crofton! We are huge fans now, though it wasn't a sure thing at first. On our very first visit, we had extremely hot and fresh sausage gravy, with a steadily declining temperature over the pantheon of remaining dishes. But, this was also very shortly after the place opened, and you could tell they were just trying to nail down the timing. By now, I think they have it in place. This is a well-oiled machine now, and the food keeps on getting better. They very clearly advertise that they use Boar's Head brand in their meats, including breakfast offerings. I'm very okay with that. First of all, it's a pretty top notch brand, which people trust and enjoy. Second, they are up front about who their supplier is, which I also appreciate. No mystery here. The food they make themselves is actually better (i.e. bacon-stuffed waffle, cream hash potatoes), and their cinnamon coffee is really good! I'm personally a huge fan now of the "Cat Head" biscuits and gravy. They are as advertised: about as big as a cat's head! The sausage gravy is so delicious... homemade (clearly), very herby without being overpowering, savory, hot, creamy, sausage-y, just all around perfect. As far as the kitsch is concerned, I kind of enjoy the minimalist approach. They have some fun signs around, which are enjoyable to read. The table markers are rubber duckie type toys (pink pigs, crabs, ducks, etc.). And the mugs are a cacophony of local donations. We left some with them a while back; now when we visit, we feel like we are saying hello to family members who have moved out and are enjoying their new lives in a re-purposed setting. Kind of corny, but it's fun. I like the setup, too. You tell the person at the front if you are there for breakfast or lunch, and then dining in or takeout. Then, you get the corresponding menu, and you walk up to the front to order. Meanwhile, they prep your table. You order, pay, and wait for the goodness to arrive. Oh, almost forgot, local bread, too. From Ottenburg's. Very good stuff! Definitely our go-to breakfast place in Crofton. One of these days, I'll get around to trying all the lunch stuff that folks rave about, too (wings, burgers, etc.). My husband and I got up early to go to Grumps because we told ourselves we don't want to sit on the uncomfortable cheap chairs and we don't want the booth by the door that opens constantly and is cold. When we arrived there were no other people standing in line. I was so happy that we were going to get a comfortable booth up close to the register where it was warm. Then, In walks of family of two adults and three kids and then I'm told that I need to go sit on the rickety chairs or I need to go sit in the booth by the cold door. After I ate a mediocre meal, I called the owner over to my table. And I said to him I want you to know exactly why I will not be coming back. I was here first and I should get the best of what you have. Being told that we try to keep the booths only for families who need high chairs was a poor excuse for mistreating me. The booth by the door could support a high chair, too. Then the owner started raising his voice arguing with me the customer, saying that "nobody is mistreating you on purpose"... I guess he figured the louder he argued with me the more it would become a true statement. What I witnessed was pure privilege for some people and no privilege for others. It didn't matter that we arrived 15 minutes earlier than the privileged family. Had we not already paid for our food we would have walked out. They had our money and now they stole the warm booth right from under our noses and then had the nerve to loudly tell us we shouldn't be upset. I'm sorry, but gone are the days when I go to the back of the bus and those who come BEHIND me get better treatment. That was our last visit to Grumps. We are now regulars but I agree it takes a while to get into the rhythm of Grump's. Best to adopt a Key West state of mind but with that said....we are always happier in a booth than the tables. They are really too close, it can be loud when full. We often have a 5 yr old to keep in check. Love the order, pay, and GO setup. Menu favs: Cathead biscuits & gravy w/ creamy potatoes (add eggs & fried green tomatoes) or get the Grump's eggs Benedict that comes on fried green tomatoes instead of english muffins. Steak & eggs, Chicken fried steak & waffle, and juicy hamburgers are often go-tos. Deep-fried beignets (not traditional but pretty yummy). Milkshakes are homemade with real ice cream & flavorings. Love, love, love the Cinnamon coffee. I've had frustrating days when servers (today's youth) are less than polite or competent but those kids will rotate out eventually and we love the non-chain food! My experience with Grump's Cafe was great from beginning to end. I am surprised by the quality of customer service as well as food from a restaurant located in a strip mall. When I walked in the hostess asked me how many and then told me table 10. I was take a back by that. Lol. I am used to people taking me to a table. At the door they tell you what table and then you go to the cash register and place your order. By the time your order is placed and paid for your beverages are on the table. I thought that was pretty cool. I ordered a corned beef hash and cheese omelette with grits. I was not sitting down for 5 minutes when my order came. It's like they have a mind reader in the kitchen. My food was delicious. My grits tasted like the grits that a grandmother would make, yummy. The design of the restaurant was a little quirky which made for great stuff to look at while one is eating. Arrived at Grumps Crofton on January 26th at 6:35 pm. Found the doors locked and observed a towel hanging over the "OPEN". The sign on the door listed their hours as closed at 7 p.m. No one was in the seating area and 3 female employees behind the register counter. I went back to my vehicle and called. The one female employee picked up the phone and I asked to speak to the manager. She advised there was no manager available and to call back the next day. I called the next day and asked for a manager. I was told there was one not available and had the individual take my name and number and gave him a summary of what i experienced the evening before and requested that a manager contact me. Well its now Tuesday (4 days) since my request and no response. I was going to give them an opportunity to repond before I posted a negative review, but they failed. It's debatable now if I will return as a customer and will share this experience with others. read more

Our first visit to Grump's Cafe. We came for brunch on a Saturday. Located in the Crofton Shopping Center directly across Rt 3 from Mission BBQ, Wegman's, and Outback, Grump's has a VERY casual, diner type atmosphere. We arrived just before 11:30 AM and the place was hopping. The hostess asked us if we wanted to be seated inside or outside and, since the weather was in the 40s-50s we chose to eat inside. We were put on their list and given a number and a plastic character to look for on our table. We waited through the line to reach the two registers at the back of the room and as we finally reached the front, we started to step forward to one register and the young lady turned away to serve another couple. So, we waited for the other young lady and when we approached her register, she asked us if we were getting our meal 'to-go' and when we said, "No" she told us to wait for the other register. When the first young lady finished with the couple, we approached her register again and were told that "since our number did not have a table yet," she could not take our order yet. She invited us to get our drinks. We did not really have a place to wait, so we wandered around the dining room edges, trying to stay out of the way of the servers. It would be smart to get a better system for that. We ordered our meals (The Bubba, Steak and Eggs, Bacon Cheeseburger Sliders, and Good Day Sunshine with 2 side orders of fruit). We were seated around 40-45 minutes after we walked through the front door. Since it was pretty busy, that was not bad imo. Drinks are self serve. The good: The food was pretty solidly prepared. We got what we ordered, it was hot, it was prepared as requested. The menu is impressively substantial. The prices were EXCELLENT. The servers were polite. The tables are cleared quickly. Loved the perfectly cooked, thick-cut bacon. The steak was cooked Med rare, the french toast was not goopy. The fruit was fresh. Loved the homey atmosphere. Eggs were cooked as ordered. What could be improved: The system for seating is cute, but the registers need a better system during busy times. Where is the jelly for your toast? Garlic fries should not have RAW garlic. Pan roast the garlic first, then add the fries to the oily garlic to absorb the garlic flavor. The improvements are small in the grand scheme. Worthy of a solid 4 stars. All the reviews and pictures we saw before going here were glowing, so we decided to give them a try. It's right next door to my favorite Pho place. So you order and pay for your food at the counter before being seated, and then the waitress brings your food to the table. Also, you have to get your own drinks (except for the juices and milkshakes). All that was strange but fine. Our issue was with the food. Everything was dry and cooked to shit. What made matter worse is that they sat an elderly lady next to us who kept saying have good our food looked and asking us what everything was. She basically stared at us the whole time. Plus she was making these gurgling and coughing noises, which made the entire experience disgusting. We just got up and left. Note, do not get the fried potatoes. Disgusting. They just chopped up potatoes into big one inch chunks with the skin on them and dropped them in the deep fryer. We won't be back. read more

Upon entry you are greeted with such warmth not only from the interior of the place but also from the host. You're given a menu; thinking to yourself "what on earth am I gonna eat?"
