Love this Crofton staple! Great for comfort breakfast that feels so familiar. We have been here previously when the line was a 15 minute wait, but it is 200% worth it. We brought our dogs and were quickly seated outside. The staff brought out huge water bowls for the dogs! The staff provide you with a plastic toy with a number on it. That number is your table number and how they bring your food out to you. When you're ready to order, you get in line and pay. Then follow the line down to get your drinks and sit at your table until your food is brought out to you. The staff is always smiling. They are friendly and kind. They wear pajamas as their work attire and the concept is hilarious. Their outside seating is covered and heated. The temperature is extremely comfortable for me. One of the individuals in my party thought the temperature was a touch too warm. I got the Grumps Favorite. It was very yummy. Oh man...I am stuffed! First time here and loved it . Turn around times are quick! Love the self serve drinks and the toys you get as a table marker. Don't expect anything fancy and definitely come in your PJs! Love that the staff is low key and relaxed. They are so sweet! Had a wonderful conversation with one of the runners/bussers, he had dirty blond curly hair and spoke of how he loved it here so he decided to work here! We had the veggie omelette which had to be easily 3 eggs, home fries and a bagel, a waffle, side of corn beef hash and steak and eggs. Portion sizes are ridiculous! So much food! Solid breakfast spot with plenty of good options for the hungry person. Even when busy, the line moves quickly. Location is very laid back and casual. Portions are a good size. I had the Bubba! Combo with three eggs, three sausages, and three pancakes while my wife had Grump's Favorite Waffles which was a waffle with crispy corned beef hash and two eggs. I even ordered an additional side of corned beef hash since I was especially hungry. Food was simple but good and filling. Service was quick. You order and then get a seat. Even though the name is Grump's the staff is not!! I've dined at Grump's several times and the service has been nothing but FRIENDLY and not Grumpy at all! LOL This is a semi-full service restaurant. I wanted to say a "semi-service" restaurant but that sounds silly.. Haha! You walk in, an attendant hands you a table number, you stand in line, place your order and pay at the counter, get your self serve drink, then off to find your table. After a short wait, your server arrives with your delicious food! This process is extremely efficient and gets you in and out without unnecessary delays! The food is awesome! I'm hooked on the Crabcake Benedict but the pancakes, French toast and waffle meals are just as good! Because of this awesomeness, I tend to only dine at Grump's during the week because the weekend line can be a bit frustrating. The result of running a successful restaurant! Okay so check it. Great food. Another cozy little spot you go to if you know about it. What did I give it a 4? This is my second visit. Loved so much the first time we came back. Two reason for the four. #1 our server didn't check on us until the end of the meal. No refill on water. No "ya'll good". Nothing. Yes. The place was busy; however, the servers were line up near the kitchen looking around. So no excuse there. The second reason for the four: lukewarm gravy on my sausage & gravy biscuit. I can overlook the biscuit shaped more like an English muffin than a proper thick fluffy biscuit (country gal from NC). What I can it overlook is my grits being piping hot and my gravy barely being warm. I don't know who plated our food but the gravy should have gone on right at service. As hot as gravy can be it cools off with a quickness. Don't get me wrong the flavor was there the hotness was not. That detracted from my meal. Definitely eat here. Got earlier than you plan to eat. I've had Grump's cafe bookmarked for years now. Because I don't frequent the Crofton area as much as one would think, considering how close I live to the Crofton/Gambrills area. That said, while my food wasn't bad, it didn't blow me away either. The food was decent. Inside is diner-ish and had a lot of patrons so I believe they've earned their stripes as a local favorite. Loved this little kitchen cafe! It's really simplistic, you come in look at the menu order what you want select your seat and their staff will bring your food to your table. They'll identify your table with plastic rubber animals that's on the table -- and what I like about it the most EVERYONE was nice, friendly, warm and welcoming-- even the other guests that were there. We've been wanting to try this place since we moved to Crofton a year ago because it's always slammed on the weekends. Maybe we went on an off day or I ordered the wrong thing but the experience was less than stellar. We went for lunch and I ordered a "jumbo lump" crab cake and husband had a Buffalo chicken sandwich---Both had fries. I can honestly say this was the worst crab cake I have ever had, including those I've had outside of Maryland. There was lots of filler, definitely not jumbo lump, and the flavor was just---way off. It tasted very strong of crab, not in a good way, which made me question the freshness. It was an odd orange color and was almost vinegary. They served it with a creamy horseradish sauce which really overpowered everything but even when I asked for and tried it with tarter, it was still bad. I could barely finish it. Huge disappointment for $20. Husband said his chicken was fine. The fries were not crispy. In addition to the disappointing food, the place just felt dirty to me. I know it's their thing to be quirky but the table markers look like old moldy kids toys and everyone working there looked like they just fell out of bed and came to work. Seems like wearing pjs might be the look they're going for given that it's mostly a breakfast place but it just made it seem yuck to me. Found this spot on the way to Six Flags! Absolutely delicious. So flavorful. All the employees wear pajamas! Absolutely my kind of place. The vibe here is excellent. When you walk in the hostess asks you how many are in your party. After telling her she tells you what table you are going to be seated at with a squishy type animal toy. Then you wait on line and tell the cashier what you want. Sit and wait, and your food is brought out to you. Simple! Drinks are self serve. Water, soda, iced tea, coffee. Have as much as you want! They even have cold brew! For my meal I had I yam what I yam wrap. Nope. No yams in my wrap. It contained eggs, feta, spinach and onion on a honey wheat wrap. It was tasty. It did need a little bit more spinach though. With it I ordered crispy potatoes. So delicious and full of flavor!!! The wrap and potatoes came to a grand total of under $7! What a deal for high quality food! My friend ordered ragin' Cajun Benedict. It had jalapeño bacon and huge jumbo shrimp! He said it was absolutely delicious. There where two huge pieces of shrimp on each English muffin. So, a total of four jumbo shrimp. He also got the potatoes, and enjoyed them. His breakfast came to $13!!! Grump's is THE place to go for breakfast in the area. The experience is a little "foreign" to newbies...but read on for more. At the Grump's in Annapolis AND the one in Crofton/Gambrills, you order when you get up to the counter, get a numbered table ornament, and then go find your table after all that's done. The Chicken and Waffle is a classic - it seems like just frozen tenders fried back up - but it's still a solid dish, and the waffle always comes out perfectly. The Cat's Head Biscuit and Gravy is DELICIOUS. You get two biscuits that are quite large, and fresh sausage gravy is always a big winner in my book. You can add an egg for a small fee, and it also comes with really good fried potatoes (well seasoned!). The other nice thing is that you can order different food "sizes" (ex: Ones, Twos etc) based on how hungry you are. One of my pet peeves with places like IHOP, is that unless you go a la carte, you end up with way too much food (particularly pancakes or french toast). Grump's lets you scale your breakfast. They have different coffee flavors on a rotation and most are tasty. Both Grump's locations can be busy during peak times, but they are upfront about wait times and will let you leave your cell number. Grump's gets an A+++ from me. read more

My husband and I love this great little breakfast spot! However, while we mostly go there for breakfast, they serve more than that. I hear their hamburgers are great as well. The atmosphere is very cute. The staff wear pajamas and it's a fun and casual vibe. we typically go for breakfast on the weekend, and although there is normally a line, it does move at a steady pace. I typically get the banana, walnut pancakes, and my husband likes the chicken and waffles. You initially get in line once the hostess gives you a number. Once you make your way up to the register, that is where you order and then you go and sit at the table where your number has been placed. the coffee is serve yourself from air pump thermoses. Part of their cute Decour is the fact that their coffee mugs are all different and come from different locations and I am guessing are probably brought in by staff members or patrons. So it's a great way to recycle your discarded mugs, if that is where they get them from. I'm not quite sure where they come from though. L O L I just know it adds to the charm. The staff is very friendly and personable. Most of the food runners are young and school aged. This seems like a great first job! The portions are plentiful, and the food is delicious. I stopped in for a quick breakfast before running errands. From walking in the door it seems no one is happy to be there. Ordering was relatively easy and food was very prompt. I ordered corned beef hash, eggs and potatoes. The food was mediocre with the potatoes tasting like they were cooked in 3 day old grease that was used to fry fish. The atmosphere is of a dive bar in the keys. Nothing spectacular about this stop. You can definitely have a better breakfast from McDonalds. read more

So here it go. Grumps is located off of 301N in Gambrills. There are other stores in the small strip area, I can't say that it is uber easy to spot from the road. There is a fair amount of parking. Once inside it is quite cozy. You check out the menu order, pay and saddawn. Your food will be up shortly. The table markers (think rubber duckies, and cool toys) are pretty dope. This is how the server knows where to bring the food. The menu is nicely sized from combinations to omlets, waffles, and favorites. I also noticed that they have milkshakes. I didn't get to check out the lunch and dinner menus but they did have some of their specials posted through out the restaurant. I had the Spanish omelet it had chorizo, sauteed peppers/onions, peperjack cheese and pico. I had a side of potatoes and toast. Le Him got the Bubba! Three slices of French toast, three eggs and three pieces of sausage. You have serval choices of sides; meats, breads and the like. Like I said, virtually no wait and nicely sized portions. My food was delish! The eggs were cooked nicely, the chorizo pico and cheese gave it really good flavor. The potatoes tasted great too. I tried his food and the French toast was delish as were those sausages. In fact, I'd like to find them so I can make 'em at home. I totally dug the little touches of the bring from home coffee mugs (you can donate your old mugs) and the servers in pajamas. The honey/cinnamon butter and the fresh ingredients were also noted. Folks need not sleep on Grump's Cafe in Crofton! Seriously, they have really good breakfast: pancakes, gravy biscuits, bacon/sausage; corn beef hash, fried potatoes....you name it! My niece loves their burgers which I've never tried because I can't get past the other food listed. Im not into eggs (hey, don't come for me), but I've heard others say the omelettes are delicious. The menu is extensive so there is something for everyone to eat. Don't be put off by the staff in their PJs, nor how they place a rubber animal at your table with a number on it. I promise it's a really clean and fun experience. Very basic ambience but wonderful service and attention to detail. The coffee is okay, while not bold, it will compliment the meal nicely. As you walk in you are greeted by a waitress wearing pajamas that gives us the menu and a toy with a number on it for our table. Different but okay. Our food came out very quickly. I ordered the bacon stuffed waffle that came with a side of bacon and my friend ordered the Eggs Benedict with crabmeat and grits. It was nice to know that you could order a half waffle if you're not feeling that hungry. The waffle was good but nothing special. My friend loved his food with no complaints. I'm a new resident of Crofton and my partner and I really wanted to try out some breakfast food around here. I struggled through reviews, wanting to make sure this pandemic outing was worth it. Grump's was worth it. Thinking of the classic diner experience and food, this delivered and being from a family of Virginians, I had to get the Grump's favorite, corned beef hash omelette. It did not disappoint. The eggs were fluffy and the ratio of corned beef filling to egg was just right. I also had the fried green tomatoes. The crust was seasoned well but, in my opinion, the tomato was a little too soft for my liking. I still ate them though, so another worth it. My partner had a veggie egg white omelette. It looked delicious, but I didn't try it because I was too busy enjoying my own. All in all, a solid experience. It will probably become one of those places where it's just like, not even a question about where to grab a low key breakfast. Edit: I forgot to comment on customer service. It was great. This was our first visit today to the Crofton location. We visit the Annapolis Grump's often, since it is close to home. The menus are the same. We had a nice breakfast, but we see pros and cons in comparing the two locations. The Crofton Grump's is on the corner of a shopping center. There is plenty of parking. The interior is more square in shape, with the register at the back and the open kitchen along the right side. There were a few booths, but mostly tables. At 11 am on a Friday, the place was pretty packed. We ordered our regular favorites, and the food was good, as always. We were given a small table for two in the middle, and it felt like the table spacing was pretty tight. And the noise level at this location was off the chart. "Energetic" is an understatement. On the whole, we like our Annapolis location, which seems cozier. But both are good. You can get a reliable good breakfast. read more

As much as I wanted to like this spot, I wasn't wowed to the point I'd return. Stopped in on an early Sunday morning for breakfast and it took so long I almost changed my mind. Quirky concept of the servers in pj's and traditional diner type of breakfast fare. On this visit it seemed as if it was too early for some of the young adults working there. I'll admit there was an effort....but it needs resuscitating. You stand in line to order your food and then you are assigned a table. This place fills up fast with patrons that frequent here often. Your service has gone downhill lately. Forgot juice. Added mushrooms to omelet when I said NO mushrooms. They were bearable until today. Today is the worst of all days. We ordered via mobile app because their phone line has been busy nonstop. So we ordered. It said it'll be ready 10:19am. We got there. We were greeted and we gave our name. 40 minutes of nothing. All other cars got their food but us. Workers kept on coming out and handing out other people's order and neglected us. So we went inside and asked for our food. They were lost. No idea what they were doing. Apparently either they never started cooking or left our food on shelf becoming too cold and then said found our ticket. Then said food will come out soon. Nothing. For next 10 minutes. Finally when we went inside again, our food was brought out. Mushrooms in our omelette after we typed in THREE times "no mushrooms! No mushrooms! No mushrooms!!!"
