I asked what was offered and the manager (Hispanic man with pencil mustache and glasses) gave me a half-ass response: it's 40 items, we have a taco bar. We ended up ordering from the menu. Our chips and salsa came at the same time as our entree, which made no sense to me; I've been to countless Mexican restaurants and they come way before the meal. My brother asked for a Sprite to go. Mind you, that was the only drink he ordered with his meal and our server (guy with a big belly) did not refill our drinks. The server said he had to check with the manager if he could do that. I asked him, "do you not provide free refills? Do you not have togo cups?" to which he responded yes to both questions. He came back with the drink and the manager told my brother "we don't normally do this, this is for togo orders." Bullshit! When they start making up weird ass policies, you know something is up. Also, we got their enchilada plates, one chicken and one cheese. The food was lukewarm and wasn't tasty. Also, it wasn't busy for lunch. We went to celebrate a birthday here yesterday and let me tell you a little about our experience. We were a group of 7 adults and 2 toddlers. When we first got there our waitress was very kind and was answering questions about the menu (can not remember her name) We started off by ordering two supreme molcajetes and aguas de horchata. As soon as she took our order she immediately made a face and repeatedly kept saying that those were only enough for two people. Which again that's ok but her tone and body language was not okay. She seemed bothered by the fact that we only ordered that. After that she didn't really check on us or even offer a glass of water. When the bill came it was around $254 and we had left AN OPTIONAL TIP because tips in California are not mandatory but OPTIONAL depending on service and food quality. Food was okay but the customer service was definitely lacking. We leave around $15 dollars for tip. As we exited the restaurant we noticed we had left a picture on the table so I went back inside only to encounter this rude waitress and essentially have her hand me the tip we had left back. She said and I quote "Our change jar is full" change ? It was $15 dollars. Even if it was x amount of money you don't say that to a guest that paid for the service and what was consumed . I kindly let her know that my sister in law had left that for the tip and she goes like "oh no I'm ok I don't want it" throws her hands on the air and walks away almost as if she was offended ? Like ma'am TIPS ARE OPTIONAL AND THE SERVICE YOU GIVE TO YOUR GUEST HAS A LOT TO DO WITH THEM. Had the sopes and they were ok. Carne asada was over cooked and sope was chewy. Overpriced, watered down drinks. How is a Paloma and a Cantrinita $34?? I ordered a SIDE of flautas. Instead being told there are no side of flautas, I was brought a full plate. I tried explaining to the server that I didn't want a full dinner but it was hard to hear/speak. When I told them I don't want to pay $20 plus for flautas; the server very bluntly I had to pay. I spoke to the manager and was told that it's "a loss" for them and basically I had to pay. An amazing experience we went in early today Around 330pm and the Mariachis just just starting beautiful establishment and very cozy. The portions are very decent and fulling portions. The blonde Hispanic lady who charges in the front should take a class on customer service before she clocks in. No needs to speak so rude to customers who are trying to figure out why they are charging a 7 month old a full buffet price. No 7 month old should be charged $10 to eat when they barely eat solids. We went early today to celebrate my Dads 80th birthday, we were a party of 10 we walked in and were kind of greeted by the Host Stephanie who's attitude was very condescending and was not appreciated, we couldn't take in the balloons we took and the cake, they tried charging $25 to have the cake on the table because they had no where to store it, I was like $25 just to bring the cake in Stephanie rudely said yes and rolled her eyes! It wasn't even about the money at all it was about how Stephanie handled the situation, we ended up going to El Pescador 7min away and omg the difference was incredibly noticeable, the Host was super welcoming and friendly and our server Alex was incredible! Tipped him every well! Our bill was $520 not including the tip $150 and the food was AMAZING! Everything was clean and over all great! My MIL chose this place for the family to celebrate her birthday at last Sunday afternoon. As another reviewer mentioned recently, don't have "good for kids" plastered on Yelp, then tell us at the door that we can't bring in our strollers. The hostess will tell you to take your stroller to the car or to park it in the corner near the front door (no thanks, not trying to have my stuff stolen). We were given a sling to set the carseat in that took the place of one of the chairs at the table. It was just a net thing on 2 legs and wasn't secure at all. I left the carseat in it, but took my 4 month old out because I was afraid the carseat would fall off of it. This place is NOT kid friendly and NOT good for family gatherings because the mariachi is SO LOUD. The restaurant space is smaller on the inside than it looks on the outside and they have the mic volume so incredibly loud, it felt like my ears were bleeding. My son started crying immediately when the music came on (and he usually loves music) because it was so loud. This is all coming from someone who sat at the long table at the very back of the room nearest the entrance/furthest from the stage. I can't imagine how much worse the tables closer to the stage would have been. I liked the salsa. It actually had a kick to it. I also liked my meal, the Monterrey Chicken, but for $30, it was actually disappointing in the long run lol. It was just a chicken breast with Monterrey cheese melted on top with some sautéed peppers, onion, and mushrooms with some beans and rice. The portions were nothing to write home about and it didn't have much flavor. For $30 for some pretty plain chicken, I'd expect a lot more. The food came out unusually fast for such a large party (8 adults + 2 kids old enough to have their own plates), so I have to agree with another reviewer that it seems like the food isn't made fresh, but comes off some sort of assembly line. I made a reservation for Father's Day spoke to Bianca. And she made me the reservation for 5 and I called today to confirmed and the general manager answered didn't get her name cause I was so upset, she mentioned to me that the girl name Bianca that took my reservation messed up and I can only do 7 or more with a deposit. This other girl Bianca didn't say anything. I canceled other reservations to go here. This is very unprofessional. First Father's Day for my boyfriend to be to celebrate and they just ruined it. This place is awesome! Depending when you dine in; they have Live Mariachis. The food selections are good amount & drinks are fine to perfection! My fave is the fried shrimp plate. With margaritas it's a party! Great customer service & really short wait times. The atmosphere is very family friendly & great for date nights as well! Bring an appetite & enjoy. Absolutely frustrating experience at the Saturday buffet - I was denied entry with a stroller, a major inconvenience as I brought my toddler (who was charged $6 and did not like the food either) and infant . We went Saturday for Mother's Day, waited 3 1/2 hours to get in. We were 5 people. We asked indoor seating, especially for my brother who has handicap needs to sit in cushion seat. And my mother who has a bad back. Then when it was our turn to go in, they try to sit us inside in a 4 person booth. 5 of us and they are trying to say we could sit there. Oh my goodness. Like 45 minutes .On a special day like this, they should have had more workers. Cooks and servers. My legs hurt so much that night and my mom's too. The restroom didn't smell clean at all. The only downside is that they take reservations first and when they are done with all the reservations they then start letting people do walk ins.
