Came for a late lunch with my partner. The pasta was a bit soft, but the flavor of the sauces was good. We had the tortellini and a soup of the day, neither of us can remember exactly, but it was either a lentil or mushroom, vegetarian soup. Overall pretty good, the containers were a little difficult to eat out of, since it is just a standard paper to-go container. A friend has been telling me about Guicho's meatball sandwich for awhile now so I decided I had to stop on my drive to LA to finally try it. And it did not disappoint!!! It's huge, comes with a side of dipping marinara and was beautifully presented in my to-go container. Probably not the best option for eating in the car but I gave myself a napkin bib and thoroughly enjoyed the delicious, flavorful sandwich. Staff is super friendly both on the phone and in person. They offered napkins and a fork/knife for my takeout order. I cut it in thirds to make it easier to eat in car but recommend eating there. They have a great outdoor seating area, right on the main street of Carpinteria, and inside has high ceilings and is very welcoming. This place seemed promising. However, staff was uneducated about federal law regarding service animals and stated that health department did not allow dogs, even service dogs, because they have an open kitchen. In actuality, a service dog is allowed in restaurants, even open kitchens, in the dining room. They are not allowed in the food prep area, of course, but are allowed in the dining room. I would encourage them to better understand the law regarding service animals. read more

I came in for my first time here and spent $60 to have a nice dinner with my husband, I ordered 2 pasta plates, dessert, and drinks. As Im sitting down waiting for my order, the manager Miguel comes over to my table, and starts reprimanding me loudly in front of other guests nearby saying " why do you want the green onions on the side of your pasta it gives it flavor makes no sense why you want on the side, where do you want me to put them?!" So I told him politely as I told the cashier the same thing... "I just want them on the side please" At this point he gets an even bigger attitude and argued with me " where do you want me to put them on the side of the plate on a napkin in your HAND ?! I said do you guys not have sauce ramekins or side dishes I don't know why you're asking the customer ?? He said no I'll just bring it and put it in a napkin I guess but makes no sense why not just put it in the pasta instead " and walks away. The amount of anxiety this interaction gave me, I had to immediately get up and get a refund and left shaking in a full on panic attack . Miguel needs to be fired before a lawsuit happens. read more

We have too many decent Italian restaurants in the area that have much better food and better service at only a slightly higher price. This is a very good place to grab some Italian meals. Basically each plate is an individual large serving of food, and works very well for takeout. All of the different foods are delicious and make quickly. This is my main spot to go to for take out in Carpinteria. Unfortunately this place does fall a bit short on the atmosphere and the seating. Chairs inside are the uncomfortable metal chairs with mostly backless stools. Drink menu is limited in beer and wine. Outside picnic table seating is also limited. If you are looking for a great restaurant experience there are better places to go, like Thaarios. If you want some Italian food after work, for a quick lunch, or to take to islands brewery, come to Guichos. read more

Good food. Very bad customer service. We drove 20 minutes to this place of business. Ordered the chicken sandwich with the side salad and a house salad. The side salad that came with the chicken sandwich was void of dressing. We asked for more dressing for the salad and we were told that we would have to pay an additional $1.50. I asked why when the salad was dry. She said the dressing was on the salad. I opened the container to show her that it contained no dressing and she refused to give me some without paying the $1.50. I treat every employee at any eating establishment with respect at all times. I do also expect the same in return. I did not get that from this young lady at the cashier's desk during this transaction and I also noticed the manager/owner standing to the side watching this interaction and did nothing to intervene to remedy the situation. The only major complaint is the lack of tables, since I think there were only two, with the rest of the seating being counter space. Love their sausage and meatball sandwiches. Really great bread roll which is soft inside but crispy on the outside and the sausage sandwich has plenty of peppers and onions with a giardinera relish. Friendly staff and clean space. There isn't a ton of ambience but I think they opened during covid and the tables are still spread out and sparse. A unique take on Italian food is what happens at Guicho's. Don't expect plates or silverware, but do expect savory salads and pastas as very fair prices with generous quantities. The procedure is to order from their wide menu at the counter indoors. Everything is designed for takeout, so even though you may choose to eat at their indoor tables, or the sidewalk ones outside, your items will come in takeout containers with plastic ware. Dear Hubby and I elected to share the chopped Italian salad, plus the tortellini in a tomato cream sauce with mushrooms. The salad was so large that we ended up bringing half of it home. The tasty tortellini with its heavenly sauce did not make it home - it was too good to not finish on the spot while it was warm. DH had a very small quantity of Stella beer, which really looked minuscule when poured into a plastic cup. I had a Pelligrino lemon-flavored canned beverage. Small slices of garlic bread rounded out the meal. Could have gone for more bread! It's available to purchase as a side. We didn't sample their desserts. All told, the food is quite good. Eating out of a to go container, versus a plate, is not ideal. We did receive paper plates, but it was awkward to try to dish out our items with plastic utensils trying to do the heavy lifting. It's weird being a Ventura native and not know that there's such a charming Main Street scene less than half an hour away with even easier parking than Ventura's. Carpinteria is tiny! Yet they have so much going on, including being the location of the annual avocado festival. I get why. Everything is right there. Homes, beach, stores. You don't need to drive anywhere. Guicho's chose this little beach town as a third location for their popular San Clemente chain, and I see why they did. It's just off the central street, clean and modern with staff that are much friendlier in person than on the phone. Whatever. I'm blaming my cell signal. :) I just picked up a couple of the grilled caprese for lunch. $9 plus tax puts them on the high side for soCal but all is forgiven for their eco-friendly approach. Paper bag and everything in paper containers. Everything was brown! Caprese comes with a little container of balsamic vinaigrette. I gave mine to Mom and enjoyed a few bites of the sandwich that was room temp by the time I got them home. It's simplicity itself: just basil, tomato and fresh mozz. I'm glad I held off, because this unassuming sandwich lights up like a flavor party heated up in a toaster oven at 325 for 10 minutes. So melty good with just enough sourdough tang. The bread is pretty soaked with olive oil so eat with a napkin. It doesn't outdo Olives Gourmet with their house-made ciabatta and parmesan spread, but it's nice to know Mom has an option that doesn't involve driving to L.A. Hope work books me for more trips to Santa Barbara so I can try the pasta! read more
