Lump Crab Cakes
David Y.

While it has long been a neighborhood staple, I only recently discovered it through fellow food lovers. Even on a midweek evening, the restaurant was buzzing, and the staff noted it gets significantly busier as the weekend approaches. The ambiance strikes a perfect balance between upscale and casual comfort. While the entire staff is welcoming, the bartenders truly steal the show. They are incredibly attentive, managing to provide lightning-fast service to bar guests while flawlessly crafting drinks for the main dining room. The menu offers an excellent surf-and-turf mix, catering to both adventurous diners and those seeking elevated casual classics like burgers and sandwiches. I opted for the Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes, which were excellent. Seared beautifully on both sides to highlight the crispy breadcrumbs, they were packed with fresh, generous portions of crab. The serving size is incredibly filling; honestly, a single crab cake could easily make a meal. When I wasn't thrilled with my initial choice of coleslaw, the bar staff didn't skip a beat, swiftly swapping it out for a side of delicious whipped potatoes. I'm surprised Gulfstream wasn't on my radar sooner, but it is a superb spot with a great vibe and a friendly crowd. I learned it's part of a larger, highly regarded restaurant portfolio, and I will definitely be back to explore the rest of the menu. I suggest that you make a reservation or arrive before 5:00 PM to snag a prime seat at the bar! Enjoy.

Tito Dirty martini

Booked one of our favorite spots in NPB for my husband's birthday dinner. We had a 6:30 reservation so popped in a little early to grab a drink at the bar. We ordered two dirty Tito dirty martini's from Talia and explained how we prefer them made. Talia understood and delivered the perfect martini's. Super friendly and very attentive. For dinner, our server was Sara who was very good. Very attentive and never left us waiting for service. We started with the grilled artichokes which are only available in season. We love the aioli dipping sauce. I ordered the Mustard Barbecue Beef Ribs with Cole slaw. These fall off the bone ribs are so delicious! I love the mustard sauce. The Cole slaw is made with mayo, just the way I like it so I really enjoyed my meal. $37 My husband ordered the Cedar Plank Roasted Salmon with broccoli and mashed potatoes. He said the salmon was cooked perfectly and the flavor was outstanding. $38 We also ordered a side of the French fries. Served hot and crispy. Yummy. $8 Just a note, Gulfstream has gone cashless. Gulfstream continues to be one of our favorite dining spots in the NPB area and has never disappointed us.

What isn't there to love about a Hillstone? The service is always top tier, and you can always expect to have an incredibly rich meal and delicious drink. On this visit, we stopped in for cocktails on the patio, but then decided to put our names down for a table to grab a meal. We split the mango salmon salad (incredibly fresh), and a couple of other sides. On past visits, I've been fortunate enough to have tried the clam chowder. All I can say is that you need to order it.

One of our favs. Mustard beef ribs with wild rice. Also cheeseburger with fries. The crispy fish sandwich is also good, just not available on Sundays. Oysters good when in season. All are yummy and good flavor. Kitchen looks organized and seems to run like a well oiled machine. Waitstaff are friendly and helpful. Verdict - yes, do try this place and come back often! A well established resto that has a good ambiance and good crowd to boot!

We had a small girl's dinner here and from start to finish it was such a positive experience. Emily is that definitely that girl. She was such an excellent server, and we wished she could sit with us and join us for dinner and drinks. Great service + great food all around. We ordered the biscuits, clam chowder, ribs, dover sole, caesar salad, fries, coleslaw, and lime meringue pie. For drinks the paloma (not on the menu) is a great choice. Less sweet and refreshing. I think we could've done without the pie. But the rest of the food was very tasty, presentation was clean, and service was quick, not rushed, and all around it was such a treat. Interior was pretty and there was a dim lit vibe which is much appreciated.

My favorite place to get oysters, fries, and a MARTINI! Their crisp martini is the absolute BEST martini I've ever had in my life. Absolute heaven. 10/10. I will make the trek to OC just for Gulfstream at the drop of a hat, just tell me what time!

Apparently, I haven't been to this location in a while -- Wow, didn't expect to see an entirely different restaurant! I love the dimmer lighting, the variety of seating options: tables-&-chairs, booths, half booths -- far more attractive and intimate than their previous design, as well as the nice bar area. Lovely ambiance at night. We started with their comfort-food-worthy Heavenly Biscuits (served with butter & honey), followed by their generously-sized Iceberg Wedge -- with option for complimentary Bacon ($21). Hubby was pleased with his 'Knife and Fork Ahi Tuna Burger, with Fries option ($25). I thoroughly enjoyed my Rotisserie Chicken ($28), tender and plump, with its savory pan juices; however (my fault for not fully reading the menu; having ordered it numerous times at other Hillstone Group restaurants, I didn't read past "Rotisserie Chicken... with wild rice...), I didn't expect a cold-&-tangy side dish (my preference would have been something warm & savory). Our finale: their Ice Cream Sundae ($15) with a sauce boat of hot fudge! The entire staff was wonderful from the start: from the friendly-&-accommodating host desk to the support staff delivering orders and refilling waters. They demonstrated impressive teamwork. We had the absolute pleasure of being served by Erin, who was sweet-and-personable, professional, knowledgeable on their menu items, with the perfect amount of attentiveness (not too much or too little), and (surprisingly especially on a Friday night, yet greatly appreciated) completely unrushed service. Fabulous evening and experience, making Gulfstream a place I desire to return to, again.

Heavenly biscuits

We dined at Gulfstream on a Friday night. Jackie was our server and she provided excellent hospitality during our dinner. The restaurant was busy and it's a little on the darker side. The noise level was moderate. We started off with the Heavenly biscuits and house salad (we requested to add bacon) for our appetizers. The biscuits were really good with butter and honey. The salad was so tasty and full of egg and bacon. I haven't had Catalina dressing in years so it was nice to have the salad served with it. For our entrees, we ordered the ribeye steak and shrimp dish. I had my eyes on the New Orleans shrimp but on the night we dined in, it was served as a Thai style with a mix of red and green curry and cashews. The flavor had a slight spicy kick to it but overall the dish was very tasty. The steak was served with a sauce on the side that complimented it well. For dessert, we had the hot fudge sundae. It was a huge sundae served with a generous serving of hot fudge. I look forward to dining here again.

Amazing location- right on PCH with easy parking behind in the plaza, very nice vibes outdoor (a bit too dark for my liking indoor). Smoked salmon appetizer was amazing , but salad was a disappointment- super super pricey, insanely large pieces of bread and just not interesting for being a $26 salad (with additional charge for proteins). If it's any indication of their main entrees, I would not recommend coming here for the food . Service was ok- friendly but they were very eager to clean up immediately (at times before we even finished, and we had to ask them twice to slow down) probably to get the crowds moving.

Food: is delicious. Sometimes a 4/5 sometimes a 5/5. Today was a 4/5. The clam chowder and curry shrimp were okay. Service: always great. Ambiance: always great. Patio seating was refreshing and the heaters worked great.

Trout. Changed side for wild rice

Another perfect lunch at Gulfstream. Everything was fantastic as always. Chicken and burger both on point. Service best of the best and crisp martini my favorite. Tres leches is a must and nothing beats the outdoor vibes for a Sunday lunch!

I've been wanting to take my parents to a Hillstone restaurant and for my mom's birthday we came to celebrate her special day. What a special and spectacular restaurant to enjoy a meal. The wait was two hours long but we grabbed a drink at the bar, my mom who doesn't drink often loved the grape cocktail and I really loved the signature martini. Everything was done with attention to detail and it showed. The food was delicious and we had zero complaints. Crab cakes were plump and filling, the shrimps were massive and had lots of flavor, the trout was just ok, but the star of the dinner was the fall off the bone ribs! Can't wait to come back!

Ask the Community - Gulfstream

I would like to have a party of 6 for dinner?

Gulfstream doesn’t take party of 6. I think their limit is 5

Can 8 of us do happy hour there?

Yes absolutely. They will accommodate you.

Is it possible to come just for drinks and an appetizer or two?

Yes. Bar area is open seating (you may still have to get on the waitlist.) and outside area back patio and fire place area serves drinks and appetizers

Tres l ches?

They do not seat parties larger than 5- yes it is a very annoying rule. Not even families with 4 kids + 2 parents are allowed.

Do they still allow smoking of cigars on the patio outside?

Yes, I've seen people with pets and smokers on the patio outside. Seems like more casual outside. Also, I've seen people with shorts and flip flop in the restaurant as well

What is the dress code here?

Typically business casual or nice shorts and polo shirt for men.

Can you guys please bring back the jumbo lump crab cake entree? It was the most popular entree and having it on the salad is really not comparable.

Yess!! I miss this dish so much!!

Do they have Happy Hour?

Unfortunately no.

When will you guys bring back your best menu item: jumbo lump crab cakes?

They actually do have them it's just served with a salad now.

Why can you not reserve a patio table? Also, are your servers and staff vaccinated and wear masks?

This is OC not LA we don't talk about peoples private health in the open.

Do you still serve crab cakes?

They only give you one and it's served with a salad

Can we have a wedding reception for about 50 people on a Friday night in November?

I would definitely call them right away and ask.

I have some friends coming into town next week and we'd like to meet at Gulfstream for a drink/snack. Do we need a reservation or will we be able to grab an outdoor table at 5:15 pm?

Even at 5:15pm this place is packed inside and out. I highly recommend a reservation.

What's up with the cigars? Everything else about this place looks amazing but I don't really want to be near anyone breathing cigar smoke into my food :/

The best of my knowledge there was an outdoor area in the past before Covid dedicated to people I wanted to have a cigar and a drink but the outside area while I was there is currently being utilized for additional space for diners only no smoking.

Are reservations required for a party of 2 on a Saturday?

Definitely, very popular place.

I saw the dress code says no tank tops. Is this true for women's formal blouse tanks or is this targeted at casual tank tops only?

Casual tank tops is what they are trying to prevent.

Corkage fee? Found out the new policy is $15 a bottle

Hi N.W. That is correct: we charge $15 per 750mL bottle.

Is there a happy hour? If so, when is it?

Yes, it’s from 4pm - 7pm.

Is this a good place for a big group for birthday dinner? Im seeing mixed answers..

Hi Margi, thanks for thinking of us. Our largest reservation is for 5 people, which is the size of our largest table.

Is it wheelchair accessible?

Yes, it is wheelchair accessible. However, the limited outdoor seating is high top, so you would need to eat inside.
