    Blackened Cajun Catfish Sandwich
    Aimee C.

Was extremely impressed during my first visit to Gus's BBQ in Porter Ranch! The food and service were excellent. Basically every employee we interacted with was attentive, friendly, and greeted my mom and I with a smile. Our waiter, Fredi, walked us through the menu since it was our first time visiting and truly provided the best experience for us. The restaurant has a great vibe and was very clean, spacious, and modern. The theming is spot on, and I loved the space as a whole. The food was absolutely fantastic, the deviled eggs were a highlight. The blackened Cajun catfish sandwich was unique and flavorful, and the french fries were out of this world. Honestly, all of the sides were incredible! This is officially my new favorite Caesar salad in the Valley: so fresh with really unique flavors. Fredi also kindly offered to split the salad into two plates for us since we were sharing, which was much appreciated. Before being seated, we had an interaction that left us feeling a little uncomfortable. While waiting by the host stand, manager Ashley was repeatedly calling out "table for Maria" while looking directly at my mom and I and motioning toward us. After she said it a few times we indicated that we were not that party, and she appeared surprised. It may have been unintentional, but since we are Latinas, the assumption felt a bit off putting and left a strange impression at the start of our visit. Besides that, the night ended on the sweetest note because Fredi brought out a sundae for my mom to celebrate Mothers Day. He is such an amazing waiter & we hope to come back soon!

Thank you Brian for your top notch service!!!

Came here to celebrate my son's 22nd birthday and wasn't disappointed! The food was incredible and the service was even better. We ordered the cornbread, fried chicken, tri-tip, and spare ribs, and every single dish was delicious. Beyond the meal, our server, Brian H., really made the night special. I had brought a cake for the occasion, and Brian took care of everything--he brought it out, provided the candles, and helped us sing Happy Birthday. It was a fantastic experience, and I'm so glad my son and his friends had such a great time. Huge thanks to Brian!!!

We recently visited Gus's in Porter Ranch and unfortunately had a really disappointing experience with the food. The brisket was, without exaggeration, the worst I've had -- dry, lacking flavor, and just not enjoyable. We also ordered the shrimp and grits, but ended up sending it back. The sauce had a very overpowering sausage flavor that completely took over the dish. It didn't taste like shrimp and grits at all, just heavily seasoned sausage, and it wasn't balanced. The gumbo was great tho! I do want to acknowledge that the manager Lisanne handled the situation really well and was kind and accommodating, which we appreciated. That said, the quality of the food was enough that we likely won't be returning.

Always a good time at this Gus location. All the staff are very friendly, helpful, and professional. The food is always amazing. I ordered the loco moco a new item listed on the breakfast menu. It was just ok; it was a little dry, and I did not like the mushroom sauce. Other than that their goods are always great. It's nice inside with plenty of light and tables. Cute little bar section with a nice amount of seating and a television to watch games..great place for family and friends to dine. Parking can be difficult when the parking lot is crowded with other restaurants, stores, and movie theatres.

I popped in to meet some friends, catch a Lakers playoff game in Gus's bar area and get some delicious BBQ. I went with BBQ Brick Chicken entree with a side of creamy mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. The meal was just outstanding- the chicken was beautifully roasted in barbecue sauce, had a slightly crispy, charred outer coating, with the inside being very juicy, tender, with a perfect amount of herbs. The sides of mashed potatoes and mac and cheese were very flavorful, with mashed potatoes having creamy texture and mac and cheese being so yummy and probably one of the best I've ever had. Just a phenomenal meal in an awesome neighborhood bbq spot. The customer service was friendly and attentive and the spot itself has a lot of comfortable seating, from comfy booths, to convenient and spacious bar area and to their good size outside patio overlooking the center of the Vinyards Plaza. I will definitely be back!

Gus's Barbecue, is another of those enticing restaurants at the Porter Ranch Vineyards. You would think that when you visit here, one should generally go for barbecued meats. However, they also have a Southern Kitchen section on the menu and what is attractive here, is the catfish and chips. Yes, it's different. Furthermore, it is deep fried with a seasoned cornmeal batter. It comes out gorgeously crisp, crunchy and browned on the outside, maintaining moisture on the inside. Instead of french fries I asked for the mashed potatoes. The entree also comes with tartar sauce, which is different, pinkish in color and spiced up. Also coleslaw. The fish was a treat. Well prepared and it combined seamlessly, with the other additions on the plate. Another delightful dinner, at the Vineyards.

hmmm....service was great, parking is a nightmare though but it is busy inside the lot with all the other businesses. Meat was great and juicy along with the sides very filling for a great price. That brownie at the end was !!!! Lots of folks enjoying their meals inside.

I had lunch here to meet a friend & it didn't disappoint us. huge food portion, attentive staff, not too crowded ambience & lots of parking. not to mention amc theater & shopping areas nearby. It's a win spot not only for friends meet up but family bonding as well. will reconsider to comeback, Thanks, Gus' bbq!

I wish I was exaggerating when I say I've been craving this place almost every day since the last time I was there. The price point to serving size ratio was good, the food itself was amazing, and the service was great. Truly a place of wonderful food and people. It's chic while still having a laid back vibe. This was the first time I've tried pulled pork at a restaurant and actually liked it. My dad said they have the best Mac he's ever had (and that's saying a lot ). Everything about this place is phenomenal- I really can't say enough about it.

UPDATE needed! Celebrated our friend, Daniel's bday here last week and had a fantastic time! We got there a bit earlier than everyone and it was an event night that we didn't know of, didn't have reservations but luckily they put together some tables in the heated patio for our party no problem! Due to the fundraising event they had, service was very slow but our wonderful server, Riley P., made it a night to remember! He had such great energy and really made the effort to get to know our little group. He made a joke to one of our friends who arrived late about him paying for a round of shots and it actually worked lol! Great humor and all around fun night. The food was great and the patio well heated for the cold weather. Although the wait times for everything took long, he was very attentive and we made it in time for our movie. Always a great time at this restaurant! IG: @ammysalamii

Not really sure what happened to Gus's the last time I was here everyone was in shock with how good the food was and how pleasant the experience was this time around was a complete 180.. Everything that we ordered was at best good not fantastic the creamed corn was great! The ribs are probably the only thing I'd get as an entree after trying everything else my party ordered. Our server was trying her best she wasn't unpleasant but you could tell she probably had too much on her plate this place was extremely busy, crowded and loud. It's feels like the love from this place has slowly been drained from what it once used to be. Drinks were good, ribs were great, corn was amazing.

Tri tip sandwich is really good Get that sandwich it is the best one Even with the meat sauce it enhances it Memphis bbq is my favorite sauce of the three Get fries with it for that classic American bbq feel Can't go wrong with the food here

Quick update as I haven't been here in a while. Everything was outstanding as usual, but I just need to comment that the veggie burgers have changed and are even tastier than ever!

Ask the Community - Gus's BBQ

My wife and I wanted to come in but after calling the restaurant and them telling my wife that they can't or won't do anything to accommodate my wife's peanut allergy we will not be dining there?

So, that doesn't seem to be question. As for your wife's allergy, I've never been to this place. But restaurants are not required to "accommodate" allergies. They have the right to say, "very sorry".

Hi! Is your restaurant pet friendly?

They have an outdoor patio area where you can bring your pets.

Can you make reservations for 6 people?

Yes, it's a fairly large space with a separate bar area too.

Do they serve breakfast now? I saw a menu posted saying coming soon.

We are serving breakfast from 830am - 2pm Saturday and Sunday each week. Hope to see you soon

Are there plans to re-open the grass area for dining?

We saw people on the grass a month ago .

Do you guys have the TVs on?

    Just at the bar area

Do you still have happy hours at Porter Ranch Location? If yes, what time? Both Indoor and Outdoor dining open?

Hi Elizabeth, Yes, we offer both outdoor dining and limited indoor dining. We currently are not offering happy hour, but we will be bringing it back very soon! You can follow… Read more

So there's no prices on the menu, does that mean it's eXpEnSiVe??😳😳

Moderate pricing. Combo dinners with 3 meats and 2 sides about $27.00. Plenty of food, usually some to take home!

Is there Western Carolina Vinegar based BBQ sauce as an option?

Yes! We have a Caroline Mustard BBQ as well as a vinegar BBQ sauce--both so delicious (in our opinion).

They prepare food fresh on the spot for you in the back corner. Note it is strictly to-go, no dine in options. The gentlemen in the store were incredibly hospitable and went above and beyond to answer our questions about how they prepare their fresh meats on the grill. Many, many thanks for the grilling demo! The marinated meats available all displayed in the case and they pull straight from there, it's fresh and made to order. We decided on a plate of chicken breast and a plate of beef lule (ground beef kabob). After placing our order, we had some time to browse the groceries and imported goods in the store. You'll find a wide variety of Middle Eastern and European goods. We picked out some imported Italian and Russian snacks as well as some lavash bread to eat with hummus at home. At home, we feasted! The meats are marinated and seasoned to perfection, tender and flavorful. The guys even cooked up a few pieces of pork ribs for us to try. And let me say, we may have to get a plate of just those next time!! The plate comes with salad (tomato, cucumber, dill, onion), hummus, lavash and rice. Don't sleep on their garlic sauce, that stuff is potent and HEAVENLY. Portion sizes are large and shareable in my opinion and prices are reasonable for the amount, and more importantly, the quality, of food you're getting. I wish I had some pictures but we inhaled our food before thinking about. Next time!

The manager (I believe) also checked on us a couple times throughout our dinner and service overall was 5/5. We were seated outside on the patio area and thankfully, there were heaters, as it got chillier than I anticipated at night! We ordered the side wedge, the buffalo wings, the smashburger and a side of truffle fries. The food was fantastic and came out VERY quickly (maybe like 5 minutes)! The side wedge is a perfect starter size and the smashburger was tasty and filling. I didn't love the cherry peppers on the smashburger but that's on me for not asking them to be removed. It was still good overall, just a little spicy. The wings were decent (7/10). The truffle fries were perfectly crispy with a good truffle flavor. The bill was about $40 for two of us (with no beverages). I would definitely come back (eager to try their happy hour).

I'd only come back for a team bonding event, if someone picked this place. The bison burger didn't stand out to me. It had too much bread and not enough flavor. Truffle fries were a great addition. Came back a second time to update my drafted review and I still have the same opinion. The food is just alright. The Buffalo Cauliflower was hard to pick up (on the second visit). The cauliflower came in crumbs, which was difficult to share. The A5 Wagyu Burger lacked flavor. The Cucumber Margarita was served in a tiny glass, but tasted delicious. Indoor tables and booths and takeout. No outdoor seating. Tables can be tight and cramped for the huge plates and the many side dishes typical to Korean comfort food. Billing 1 stars: I was disappointed that on the check they recommend the tip amount based on the total after tax, which is not correct. Tipping is customarily calculated based on the total before tax. Some restaurants have attempted doing this recently which I find misleading and I will be calling them out on it. I have posted a picture of the check. Now, this may have been done by the terminal vendor and not the restaurant management but nevertheless I would recommend that the restaurant addresses this to avoid having confused and unhappy customers.
