French dip and Mac-&-cheese. The best in town.

The food is absolutely amazing. Very friendly staff. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Love the atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This is a must stop and eat when vacating at the beach or a night out with friends and family.

Stopped in here before a show at OWA. Nice ambience and staff. Local menu. Husband ordered the cheeseburger which was cooked exactly as ordered and delicious. I had the grilled shrimp basket. Both items were cooked very well and delicious. Proportions were as expected. Indoor and outdoor seating. Yes, the restroom is outside and around the corner. It isn't that big a deal. Many of the shops/restaurants refer guests to that public restroom. The wine shop across the way, the ice cream shop, the candy shop, & other businesses in and around that corner also states to use that public restroom.

My family LOVED our dinner at Gussie's! We had originally planned to have sushi, but the restaurant was closed, so we headed next door. I was happy to see that it was family owned and operated, and it lived up to expectations. We started with beer battered onion strips and they were fresh and delicious! Crispy, yet light, which is hard to accomplish with deep frying. For dinner my son had a grilled cheese (big hit), my daughter had the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken which she loved, and my husband had a French dip sandwich which he said was delicious. I wasn't super hungry so I went with the hand cut mozzarella sticks. They were so yummy! A little salty, but pleasantly so, with a flavorful marinara sauce for dipping, and nothing like your bog-standard frozen mozzarella sticks. Fresh, giant pieces of real cheese. In addition, our server was extremely attentive and friendly. We never wanted for a thing or had to wait on anything. [[HIGHLIGHT]]So the bathroom is a short walk outside the restaurant - so what?[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Next time we come to OWA we will be back at Gussie's. I hope it thrives here - it deserves to!

I walked into Gussies with high expectations because [[HIGHLIGHT]]the vibe seems nice and it's a nice variety on the menu.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was great from the lady behind the bar and our server Stephanie. Me and my wife were indecisive so we decided to try 3 items, The patty melt, the grilled shrimp Bam Bam tacos, and the chicken alfredo. To start the patty melt was burnt on the inside of the toast providing a char taste to every bite of the sandwich, we were not asked if we wanted a specific temp on the burger so I assumed as patty melts usually are it would be well done wich it definitely was but was so much meat it made it so dry. The skin of the onions were left on makinthg them chewy and the thousand islands over powered the whole sandwich. The shrimp tacos were surprisingly good which I had hoped they would be because the only thing needed to cook was the shrimp, the Mac and cheese on the other hand was completely separated having the texture of cottage cheese and Maccaroni and had zero taste and was Luke warm. The alfredo was the biggest disappointment of the entire meal having zero flavor including the chicken the sauce tasted like canned prego and I could have put a nail through the wall with the garlic knot.

    Fried shrimp

Listen...everything here including the service is fantastic! Those fried banana peppers are outstanding. If you have a chance to visit here feel free to choose anything from the menu.

Over the years we have seen a steady decline in the upkeep of the restaurant, the service staff checking on customers and the food quality. The one item that has gone up exponentially is the cost of everything on the menu. We have continued to spend money here out of some false sense of nostalgia in hopes to see this place rebound. The picture I have included is a broken dish our food was served in. Luckily it was noticed before anyone in our party cut their hands on the protruding shards. The only reason I am giving this review 3 stars is because the live music performance by The Heat at the time we stopped in kept us there. I highly recommend looking them up and planning a night out to see them.

Amazing Place!! If…read moreyou're looking for great Italian food, Gelato Joe's is a must! Our server (John) was fantastic. I ordered Joes Lasagna and it was so delicious. I selected the strawberry salad which was also terrific. Our family loved this place. For dessert, they had a dozen plus flavors of gelatos and pastries. We also tried their cannolis. There was one chocolate dipped cannoli left and I fully believe no cannoli should be left alone. If you've never had a chocolate dipped cannoli in your life, you'll experience the same life changed moment I went through after taking my first bite. If you're in Foley or nearby, this is the place to eat at if you're in the mood for Italian food. It was worth every penny we spent.

One of the standout touches is the little shop inside, filled with all kinds of great finds--soaps, mists, lotions, and even kitchen accessories. It's a fun bonus that makes the experience feel a bit more unique. We came in with a group of 16, and they were able to accommodate us in a separate space across from the main area, which worked out really well. If you're planning a visit with a large group, I'd definitely recommend calling ahead. Major shoutout to our server--she handled splitting the check six ways like a pro. Everything came out correctly and fairly close together, which is no small feat with a group our size. I ordered the mahi sandwich, and it was delicious. The bun was perfectly buttered, and the fish itself was flavorful and well-prepared. They also offer a salad bar if you're looking for something lighter. Prices are on the higher side, but that's pretty standard for seafood. Some dishes were served whole--bone-in and all--which caught a few people in our group off guard, but to me, that's usually a sign of freshness. The food did take a bit of time to come out, but given the size of our party, it was understandable. Overall, I really enjoyed our visit and would happily come back.

In fact, I picked it up and waved it like it was a steak. The server took it back and quickly offered to bring peel and eat shrimp. Which I accepted. After having such an objectionable experience, I was surprised we didn't receive a visit from the management. Not sure I would go back.
