I love Mediterranean cuisine! We found this restaurant close to where we were and decided to give it a try. My mother recognized it as the food truck that she's frequented on Old Spanish Trail near the Medical Center district. She spoke highly of their kabab combos. I ordered the chicken gyro with fries. The combo came with a can soda. We ordered the Chicken over Rice platter for my nephew and niece to share. It was so much of food that even my mother was able to eat off of the same plate. We got sauces on the side. Surely glad we did. That hot sauce is way too hot for a child's palate. I had to use it sparingly on my gyro. The meat on my gyro was moist and flavorful. Oh my! I really enjoyed this meal. Even my French fries were nice and crispy. I think the rest of the family enjoyed their food as well. The food was filling and we all were quite pleased. read more

This is hands down the best halal food I've had! The chicken was perfectly cooked and seasoned (tasted like tandoori chicken almost). The lamb was my favorite part, the right amount of seasoning and juiciness. It came with so many sides like corn, olives, jalapeños, chickpeas and even pickled veggies! I love Mediterranean food but I would never go back to this place ever again. I ordered the lamb over rice platter w/ white and hot sauce. The presentation of my to go plate looked great. However, looks can be deceiving. I drove an half an hour to try this place out and I did not like the lamb or the rice. If you want great Mediterranean in the US, the Midwest is the place to visit! Once again on a lunchtime adventure! Being from the Midwest I always missed a good Gyro, saw the picture of the combo plate and decided to give it a try. 1st of all they offer a lot of good things as well as fresh juices!! My dish experience- I got the combination Lamb and chicken, with white and red sauce and me being a cheese fanatic throw some feta on top. The meat was seasoned good, no fatty pieces. The salad has everything but you can tell them what you don't want. Now the combo can come with fries and a drink but I advise this combination is enough! If I would of ate the fries I would have tapped out at work. Lol. I got the white and red on top, me personally I love both sauce but the red was a little spicy for me and I will get that on the side. The white sauce definitely extra. Inside very nice and clean in a strip mall right near Kroger's so no worries about parking. Lots of seating if you want to eat inside. Customer service was great! Next time I visit I will have to try the fresh juice. Location- they have a food truck and Hwy 6 bear Bissonet. P.S didn't I could finish it all so I have lunch tomorrow! read more

This location is located next to Kroger so plenty of parking space, easy to find. It seems like this place has steady flow of customers. Atmosphere is fast food kinda place but food takes longer than normal. I got the combo gyro while hubby got combo rice plate. Food was mediocre. The positive is that their veggies are fresh and good customer service.. Unfortunately we will not be back. Overall experience was not memorable. read more

Nice food. Wanted to spice up lunch today and try something new. A friend told me about this place and gave a grade A report on the chicken and lamb gyro. I ordered the lamb gyro and let's just say that it was flavorful. It contained lamb (of course), cucumbers, Ronan lettuce (I think) and I added their hot sauce/gyro sauce. It was served wrapped in aluminum foil, as if it were a taco. I also ordered French fries, which are crinkle cut. The food was more than a enough to fill me up, I ended up taking some home for the kids to eat. So I rated this place 4 stars because of the drinks. They only offer canned drinks. I prefer fountain drinks because I can refill at my convenience. But the food is great overall. I will be returning in the future. GreAt job you guys!!! read more

Updating my review because I swear while the food here is great the service is a hit or miss. If you're going to eat here dine in. If you're taking your food to go- always just triple check everything. Open every single order and triple check because they always give you an incorrect order. This has happened to me too many times and it's so frustrating when I ask for specific things on my order- like sauce on the side. Pretty simple thing right? The guy that took my order even wrote it down. But NOPE. They always forgot the sauce on the side ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS. I was in a rush after work, and the guy working told me the sauce and everything was in the bag. I get home and guess what? NO SAUCES. What was the point of me ordering my food DRY? I swear. Awesome food! Everything is so fresh and spiced perfectly. I love the sauces too. The white is so creamy and delicious and goes perfectly with the chicken. Then BAM you get hit with the hot sauce and it's the perfect combo. Wonderful quality every time I order. They also have fresh juice that pairs well with the heat. Checked this spot out for a late night dinner. This place is open late, was very clean, and the staff was nice. I ordered the Lamb Gyros sandwich and Gyros Fries, and the food was amazing, really liked the Gyros sandwich. Also the portions are pretty big and the food is also HALAL. 4 stars for the lamb salad. On a diet so got this salad. No regrets! The veggies were fresh and cool. They went well with the warm lamb meat. The portion size was enough to fill me up. Also, got the spicy and white sauce on the side. Overall, very solid salad that fulfilled my cravings for a real gyro. I bet the gyro or rice platters here are 5 stars. Yes yes like everyone said Gyro King is better than Halal Guys. They have a lot more variety and fresh juices to enjoy with your meal. Jones Fried Chicken is not even in the picture cause that place is dirty af. Rice platter - the white sauce here isn't as creamy/heavy and the red sauce isn't SPICY compared to Halal Guys. There's only 1 size platter which is the white, square styrofoam togo box. I didn't think I'd finish it entirely in one sitting, but I did. All by my hungry self. The addition of assorted veggies (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, pickles, chickpea, corn, olives, cauliflower...I think that's all) is a plus because fiber lol. It's like a chipotle bowl x 10! Just be sure to let them know if you don't prefer any of the mentioned veggies. One thing that rubbed me the wrong way was the worker's attitude & demeanor. She seemed like she hated her job and me being in her presence made me hate her job for her. Sorry not sorry? On a brighter note, they close late (12 am or 2 am). Yayy for closer late night munchies run for some lamb & chicken over rice :D read more

One of my few favorite mediterranean spots in Houston. Their white and red sauce is sooo flavorful. . Beef and Chicken Combo platter over Rice + Salad. I always make sure to get extra sauce on the side. It's worth it. They marinate their chicken over 24 hours so it's full of flavor. Not a fan of olives or chickpeas in my salad so I subbed it for more of their sweet corn. . Decided to be adventurous and tried their Chapli Kabob Salad... It was alright. I've had better Chapli Kabob before. Chapli Kabob is basically seasoned minced beef, mutton, or chicken. . Their falafel is decent. I definitely recommended this place for their unique flavors and sauces. They have a few locations around Houston if anyone is interested. read more

It's nearly impossible to find fault with what I consider the most complete gyro over rice spot in Houston. From the traditional lamb gyro to delicious marinated chicken and tender Chapli kebabs, they seem to have it all down very nicely at this location. In addition to Chapli gyros, this location also specializes in other unique items that are not offered on their food truck, including succulent lamb chops and shrimp platters. One thing that has always impressed me about Gyro King is the consistency of both texture and taste in their meat -- it's fresh and delicious every single time. And when paired with their signature white sauce, satisfaction is inevitably guaranteed! The hot sauce here is also actually a whole lot more smooth than its much spicier Halal Guys counterpart, and their rice & salad combination forms a good foundation for just about any platter. As a tip though, I would suggest trying out their gyro wraps ASAP if yo haven't already done so; granted, the temptation of sticking with the colorful and flavorful platters can be plentiful, but their soft pita seems to bring the very best out of their combination gyro in my opinion. On the whole, the final product is simply too good for most competitors and perhaps only rivaled in this area by Sara's Halal Burgers. Service and ambience is nice too but things can get chaotic when it starts getting crowded. But that last blemish isn't enough to stop an emphatic five-star rating. read more

I've been to this place one time and I just haven't really been impressed. The owner advertised the food to me the first time like everyone across from Houston comes to the Med Center just for his gyro but the food was actually below average. Because it's convenient (we live across the street) we continued to get food from them until tonight. We ordered a chicken plate and it's was awful! The chicken was hard and cold and the bread was rubbery as if it were old and reheated. The guy even got my order wrong, I asked for salad and he gave me humus. I honestly think this place is overhyped and just well below average, there are a ton of great food trucks in the area and this isn't one of them. There are several reasons why I decided to check on this spot. First of all, it had such a great reputation among my colleague. Secondly, it didn't seem to be pricey and the last thing is that Gyro King is very close to my place. I order all the time from the food truck since that's the nearest location to me but today I was driving around minding my business lol... when I saw this other Gyro King and I couldn't just keep going so I stop and got my favorite meal lamb chops over rice, the service was fast and friendly, when my order was ready they brought the food to my table with an extra bottle of white and hot sauce that was the best part cuz I love to put a lot of white sauce on my food. This is by far the best New York Style Gyro I have ever had! My first experience to this Resturant was amazing a while back. When I walked in I was a bit confused on what to get and the staff was really helpful. They let me sample out both meats and told me about all the items on the menu. My first time there I tried the combo over rice as well as the gyro fries and also got one of the amazing juices. Not knowing that it was so much food in the combo rice I had left overs.
