Cristos is an amazing Chef and business Owner who knows how to manage the front and back of the house. There were about 10 people in line, but he didn't even burn one morsel of my food. This was very impressive to say the least! The ambiance has pictures of the Greek Coast on the walls and feels like a Mom and Pop establishment with authentic Greek food. Gyrogrill is a place I would definitely go back and eat at again. I forgot to take a picture of the food, but it was delicious. I ordered hummus and pita bread as a starter and a chicken gyro. The portion of the food was quite large and super filling. The amount of meat that was in the gyro was very generous. The flavor was amazing. The gentleman who took our order ( I think he was the owner) was friendly and helpful. My friends and I stayed there until closing and he came out and let us know that we could stay at the table and still talk and hang out and to go inside if we needed anything. Go here if you're craving a gyro, this place hit the spot! The beef/lamb gyro is meaty here and instead of thin slices is cut into chunks and grilled so there is a bit of crisp on the edges. Got the souvlaki with 2 sides with two chicken skewers - This is 22 bucks and with tax and tip this is almost sit down dinner price for the amount of food but in a lunch type quick eat setting with no proper restaurant seating. So i'm going to knock one star for that. This might be a personal taste/cuisine specific thing, but i like kababs to have more marinate/flavor - like middle eastern/Afghan/Pakistani/Indian ones usually do. The kebab was moist, had seasoning and had a good cook but i wouldn't like eating this kabab just by itself without a sauce or a dip. But I cant fault a cuisine for probably being authentic and not like other cuisines as per my taste. So wont knock a star for it. I will probably return to this place to give the other meats/dishes a try because it was more promising compared to other greek food ive eaten in San Diego. I was really excited to order from this restaurant that my friends and I visit frequently. It used to be a reliable place to get delicious Greek food at a very affordable price. Unfortunately I visited today and they've almost doubled the price of the food. Fortunately the food is still delicious but a salad with protein should not cost $41. It also came with Taziki and pita. The gyro was very flavorful. The pita was soft. The veggies had a nice char and flavorful as well. Service was friendly and the employee was very kind and patient with my questions. There are tables outside and seats along the wall inside for dine in. The food was tasty. However, I would have liked to see more side options that were not an additional cost added on. Even though I ordered half and half of two sides, I still got charged the full price for them. Had I known that would be the case, I would have ordered them as full sides. Portion size was okay, I would have liked the small size sides to be bigger. Then today my girlfriend and I decided we'd go back there and we were excited to try it out again and man, I can only say that it was absolutely horrible. We ordered the falafel plate and I can only emphasize how disappointed I was. We waited over a half an hour for a single flatbread, four flavourless, yet salty and burnt falafel, and a little pile of f****** rice. We split it and couldn't even finish it because it was so bad and disappointing. We left hungry wondering what we were going to go eat so we could get the salty taste from our pallets. A small operation - when I was there on Friday evening Christos, the owner was working the shop. It's in a small strip mall off Miramar Rd...parking at 5:30pm on Friday was fine, but I'd expect the parking may be difficult during lunch although there's plenty of street parking. Shop was clean and unassuming and Christos was charming, upbeat and customer focused. We chatted for a few minutes while waiting for my to-go order and you could feel the pride for his shop in his words. Most importantly the food. We ordered the beef & lamb gyro, fries well done, and hummus. Serving size was fantastic! Gyro was flavorful with tender meat and a delightful homemade tsatsiki sauce. I would have loved some more tomatoes on the sandwich but I'm guessing if I asked for that next time it would be accommodated with a smile. The fries were incredible. Fresh sliced, nice crispness and a yummy seasoning salt. The gyro and fries filled us up so will need to eat the hummus tomorrow but I took a small taste and it was perfectly balanced. And prices are super reasonable! There was an off menu board with special gyros that I want to go back and try for sure. But not here, here you'll happily find an extensive variety of offerings that have value in taste while being economical kinder to your wallet as well. For instance, typically (even very bad) Moussaka goes for anywhere between $20 to $26, depending on the obeounce (here it's only $15 flat). Also, the Moussaka is quite good here, quite good indeed.. The soup was literally off the hook, and was so much more than spot on. Pita served hot to the touch. Chisophos, is very helpful and friendly. Plenty of good parking. Outdoor dinning too.
