Big fan. A greek friend told me about this place years ago and I just got a chance to try it out. We ordered their lunch for the lunch meeting at the company and everything was so tasty. One of my coworkers ate the equivalent of 3 lunch orders all by himself. Then he took some of the leftovers home as well. =) That evening, knowing that my bf would love the food as well, I stopped by and picked up some chicken gyro, roasted veggies and chickpeas to go. It was a huge hit. Food is really good and the service is great. You should definitely give them a try. read more

The first time I biked down Miramar Road there were some taco shops and a few fast food restaurants.  There are many more options now.  Gyrogrill is the first Greek restaurant I've tried on Miramar Road. I ordered the pork gyro meal for $7.99.  Pork gyro featured tender and juicy pork.  Loved the flavor.  Pita bread was soft and had a nice mild flavor.  Fries were a round shape and very crunchy.  I liked the very crunchy texture and the potato flavor.  You could pick any drink out of the fridge.  I chose the Orangina.  I liked the bubbly orange juice flavor. 2nd visit I tried the beef skewers with fries and sauteed veggies.  Beef was very tender and cooked just the way I wanted.  Strong lemon flavor went well with the mild flavored pita bread.  Veggies included different types of squash and mushrooms.  I liked the flavor but would have liked some more mushrooms.  This time the fries seemed overcooked as they were very crunchy and on the dry side. At $5.99+ tax, the "Homemade Gyro" with pork is a great deal. This is one of the most generous portions of meat that I've seen in awhile. I enjoyed the hearty sandwich, but thought the meat was a bit on the dry side. It would have been nice to have an extra cucumber/yogurt sauce on the side to help with the dryness. But all in all, I enjoyed my sandwich and would definitely give this place another try. read more

Gyrogrill is one of several eateries in a small plaza off Miramar Rd. I'm not a fan of the parking lot here, but it's manageable during these times because of the decreased customer volume. There were a couple of small tables in front of the suite if you wanted to dine outside. The menu had some Greek themed breakfast items, appetizers, gyros, and specials. From looking at the other reviews, the popular choice was a gyro. I decided to sample something different by ordering the Giouvetsi. The dish was made up of baked lamb and orzo served in a pint-size portion. The chopped meat was well-flavored, however a side dish should have been added for the $14.99 price. A 1/2 lb serving of the Grilled Lamb Loin Chops cost the same and was probably the better value. read more

Rarely do I give such a negative review but considering we tried to get mistakes clarified, the response was incredibly underwhelming. =Menu= While I understand a simplified menu is better for the circumstances, they were out of stock for many items. We were unable to order the pork gyros, gyro burger, and giouvetsi so we opted for gyro fries, mousaka, and chicken gyros. =Food= Gyro fries (large, $9.99): really good and worth the price. Actually a generous amount of protein despite the gyro being a bit dry. The fries are thicker cut and sauce was tasty. Mousaka ($10.99): our biggest complaint. They forgot the casserole despite this dish being a veggie casserole. We got a container of sauce and chickpeas--that's it. We had called back to get clarification and was told that we misunderstood the layering and that it was probably reorganized when heated up. We dug through the whole clear container and there wasn't anything besides the chickpeas. Extremely disappointing response and nothing was done to fix the mistake. =Service= We waited over 30 minutes to receive our food and we were the only ones there. Time management needs to be altered because this won't do during the lunch rush. Some recommendations for more sanitary conditions should include: not having the customer get their own drinks and providing some form of hand sanitizer. Would have given them another chance had the service not fallen short of expectations. Considering I payed $11 for a small box of tomatoey chickpeas, I feel a bit sad--where is my casserole? read more

I can never resist a good Greek salad. I was two doors down picking up some other food when I saw this place. My test of a good Greek restaurant is usually the Greek salad. You can always throw a bunch of vegetables together and put a dressing on it but somehow the Greek salads are a signature of the place. I was met by this good looking brother from Jamaica which I thought was odd being a Greek restaurant. He was warm and friendly. He was doing a lot of the cooking. The owner happened to be his really good friend he was in business with I think. I ordered Greek salad, Gyro fries and regular fries for my son. I Enjoyed the Greek salad because they were big chunks of cucumbers tomatoes slice onions feta with a light homemade dressing that could have used a little more salt. Thank Goddess there was no lettuce. A lot of places give you a bunch of lettuce with a few toppings with an outsourced Greek dressing. I like the robust textures of the salad. But what I really really enjoy was that Gyro fries. Oh my goodness there were the biggest chunks of gyro with homemade sliced french fries and feta and onions. So delicious. But fair wanting you need to eat these on the premises this does not travel so well due to fries will get cold underneath all that yummy goodness.. Not much ambiance basically just pick up and go is your best bet but there are some chairs if you want to stay. I got there right before lunch hour rush. No one was in the parking lot. But all of a sudden when I got my order from next door there was not one free spot available. Give the place a try to help out a young businessman starting out. This place is unassuming, small, and incredible. From the start I felt like it was going to be good, because you could tell the staff were stoked to be slinging gyros. It's like they know they're about to hook you, and they know you aren't expecting it. You're already on the right track when you offer a pork gyro, but many fail at execution. These boys did not. The pork was so perfectly crispy and the fat perfectly rendered. Not a single piece of chewy fat, just perfect salty seasoned gyro pork. Don't get me started on the fries, they're like a potato wedge without the thick end. Perfect thin slices of crispy potato. I loved them. The guy behind the counter was uber friendly -- 5 stars I got a large Greek salad with a protein add of pork; I also ordered a side of their spicy feta as a dipping sauce for the pita. I got it in a to-go container and ate outside. The contents of the salad, including the pork, tasted fresh and were delicious. And it was plentiful: there was enough to eat lunch there, and enough leftovers for a full lunch the next day. I would've liked the salad to contain more greens, but other than that I was extremely happy with it, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. The pita was warm and soft, and tasted good.... but it felt a little too refined/white to me; I would've enjoyed the pita more if it leaned more towards the whole wheat spectrum. The spicy feta dipping sauce was out of this world.... Glad I ordered that The atmosphere outside leaves much to be desired. Finally got the chance to try the classic gyro here. The thing that sets this place apart from other Greek spots is the attention to detail. The meat is chunky and seared very well! Usually when you order gyro, the meat is too thin but here it is nice and thick. The owner knows what's up! He's also extremely kind and has a fantastic story. My family and I are the biggest fans of this place! I stumbled onto it working nearby on Miramar Rd. but my family lives in Clairemont and are surrounded by Mediterranean, Greek/Lebanese restaurants. We have options for daaaaays! But I choose to drive 6 miles at least once a week to Gyro Grill since we discovered it. My wife is Lebanese. She and my kids agree this is the best Mediterranean food in San Diego without question. Everything is unbelievably fresh. The lamb and beef gyro meat is sooooo juicy! Unlike any other we've had around here. The dishes are PAAAACKED with tender meat and fresh greens and the staff is super friendly and welcoming. There's a damn good reason this place was nominated for best Mediterranean food in San Diego. I was craving Greek so my husband and I went here for lunch today. The first thing that hit us was the smell. It smells SO good. The owner was there taking orders and was so friendly and helpful, he made us smile with his obvious passion and enthusiasm. The food, though, is the real star. The gyros were soft and moist, full of flavor. The homemade sauce? Order extra. I was eating it with my spoon! The fries are literally sliced potatoes, not julienned, but they are perfect. They are so crispy and perfect. I was burning my mouth but couldn't stop eating them! My husband got the chicken and steak souvlaki. I almost never order chicken breast anywhere because it's always dry. But this wasn't! It was soft and flavorful and perfectly seared but not tough. Coming out of my Yelp retirement to write this review. These are the best gyros have ever had. The lamb/beef gyro meat is so soft and tender, unlike other places that are more dry and hard. They also stuff these sandwiches - they don't skimp out. The falafels also delightful - lots of delicious seasoning, great crunchy outside and moist inside, and they don't put too much filler. The tzatziki sauce is top notch - thick with lots of cucumber. Service is excellent too. I'm always greeted with a smile by the founder and chef, Christos. Going to sound petty, but only on the basis of the tiny tzatziki portion and charge for an extra cup alone, 1 star..... I can't stand when small businesses pull this cost cutting stuff. Customers DO notice and will go elsewhere. I work right down the street and would likely come in every week or two for lunch. But if I have to pay extra for enough sauce to enjoy my meal with so the business can save a few pennies..hard pass. Came in with quite a few coworkers and we all noted this on top of already arguably prices on the steeper end and will opt to take our $100+ lunch bill elsewhere over a couple pennies the business tried to save on sauce. Like if you are going to charge for extra, at least include a portion large enough for someone to enjoy their entire meal with. Not a thimble sized amount. read more

I really wanted to like this place because it's next to my gym but I was so disappointed. Ordered 2 gyro sandwich meals with rice and salad and none of it was edible. The meat on the gyros was beyond burnt and hard as a rock, salad was disgustingly soggy I couldn't even eat one bite. The cucumbers and everything had to have been so old or sitting in liquid all day and the Greek rice is just white rice. Wasted $37 and thats a lot for a lunch in general but especially one that you can't eat not even one bite of. I don't recommend this place at all. read more

A must try! We visited on a Thursday night & it was pretty quiet. It was only myself until 1 other group came in after I ordered. I wanted to get the chicken plate but they ran out of chicken so I opted for pork and lamb/beef combo plate. And we also tried their gyro wrap. Everything was delicious! I was afraid of the meat being dry and hard but it was cooked well, flavorful and the tzatziki, fries & rice were a nice balance. Definitely coming back during the day to try their chicken. First time here. I came right at opening and there was only one guy working there. He was super nice and got my food out to me in a reasonable amount of time even though I was probably the first customer of the day. The food itself was pretty good. I don't have much experience with Gyros, but I really enjoyed I purchased. I work nearby and wanted to start trying some new places around here. For 15$, I left with all the food you see in the picture. It's definitely enough to feed one person. I could see myself splitting with my girlfriend and us both feeling satisfied. read more
