This hands down is the best place to get authentic fabulous Greek food. I have never had a bad meal there and I have had almost everything on the menu. The service is very good. The Greek coffee the best and cookies out of this world. It is a relatively small restaurant so if you go during rush hours plan to stand in line for 5 minutes or more but it is worth the wait. So the other day a friend of mine asked to eat here, and I was like, you know I've never had a gyro from this place even though I love gyros. So we go. And I have to say.... no bueno. A good gyro needs 4 components. 1. Meat that is not overcooked, if it is it tastes like dried-out meatloaf. We went around 2, the end of lunch hour, but it was apparent that the gyros we got was old. I asked and they get their gyros in frozen, it is not made there. While this is typical, the place they get it from does not certify their meat as halal.... and the best gyros cones are always halal. 2. Fresh bread. This place doesn't have it, it's frozen and heated up. 3. Thin thin tomatoes and onions. Once again, disappointing. 4. Great tsaziki sauce. This place does have that, but I seriously doubt they make it there fresh. The price of the gyros is 3.00 higher than two competitors nearby. Maybe their other food was better. Gyros Mediterranean sits on Cornell, across from Saggio's, just past the Frontier, and is part of the same restaurant empire as those neighboring juggernauts. I tried a few of their offerings today, and for a first take, the food easily met my expectations. The spicy chicken sandwich is a familiar shawarma style wrap, 20¢ more expensive than its milder counterpart. The pleasing combination of crisp vegetables and seasoned meat is accentuated with spoonfuls of tzatziki sauce. The flavor profile is markedly different from the hummus and chicken sandwich, which comes loaded with feta cheese. The spanakopita also tasted hearty and fresh. The prices are reasonable, and takeout service is swift and timely. This little eatery deserves its spot in the campus restaurant scene. read more

We have been there several times. My in-laws lived in Cyprus for 2 1/2 years and said the food is authentic. The food is delicious. But, I have to say the lamb kabobs are over cooked. I am used to medium rare or rare lamb. Kabobs do not come in those two cookings. Everything else is authentic and delicious. I did try the sampler but the hummus was not my cup of tea. My wife loved it and ate all my leftovers. It just did not have enough garlic and lemon for my palate. read more

Best baklava in the city. Always regret ordering just one piece to share. So much of their food is homemade, and you can tell. Love their homemade dressing on their super yummy salad with fresh fried pita chips. The homemade patates (fresh thinly sliced crispy fried potatoes) are so good with or without ketchup. You can even get green chile on your gyros. Vegetarian plate is always more than one meal for me, and I'm not normally a baba ghanoush person, but theirs is consistently good. Gyros Combo. Double meat gyro, salad, and patates. This is one of the best gyros in the Duke City. Nicely done lamb and beef, well spiced. Lots of tasty tzatziki. The Greek salad is fresh and crisp, and you get to pour as much dressing as you want at the table, so the lettuce doesn't come to you soggy. The patates are very thinly sliced potatos, deep fried, like chips, but they have a slightly soft center. Delicious. This place is a bargain. Sweet staff. This might be an acquired taste type place, so I'm not sure I can fairly rate it. I didn't like it very much and don't plan to have it again. I had Souvlaki, which I've had plenty times before & even have made at home and these ones were the worst I've had, The tzatziki sauce didn't have cucumber, dill or tyme, it was like just yogurt. I love crossing paths with a great gyro! At Gyros Mediterranean, the potential awesomeness inherent to the concept of "double meat" was tantalizing and impossible to pass on! Pros: yes, it was a good amount of meat! It was also tender, and was cut in appropriately-sized pieces. The pita was quite delicious and was the perfect texture. The zadziki sauce was fine. Didn't wow me but had good (albeit subtle) flavor. Cons: did "double meat" mean less other stuff...? The vegetables in the gyro were limited to a few onions and one (whole) pepper. I'm all for a meat-heavy sandwich, but a good gyro has a perfect marriage of meat and vegetables that was absent here. Lastly, the flavor of the meat just didn't quite do it for me. It was ok, but the flavor just hid in the dark somewhere while I searched for it. Oh well. Was a respectable gyro that I did enjoy. read more

I just used them to cater a lunch meeting. I ordered a tray too many, but it was all delicious! I was cautious about using the online Selflane delivery but it was all good! My food arrived right on time and Rudy at Gyros was great and patient to work with. My only slight complaint is they add a LOT of their house-made chips. All 5 of us enjoyed our food, however I had asked for a kabob and was brought a gyro like everyone else...& they did offer to take it back and get me a kabob but said there were none ready and I was too hungry to wait. Some of the tastiest Gyros in town. Really though I'm not a Gyro aficionado but I've had my share. This is the best in town per price and casualty. The Gyro comes with a large side Greek style salad and these delicious hand cut potato chip type thingy majigs. A decent selection of other food items but I solely stick to the gyros, it's in the name for Pete sake. The place is small but not loud The window seats are the popular seat for most but the back is quite with less traffic. I've been here several times when I get that gyro craving. I will continue to go back until the quality changes. Only downfall is sometimes there is a little neglect on draining of grease/juice from the gyro itself. Good Greek fare is worth it's weight in gold, and this place has it all. Dolmas, gyros (imagine that), patates (amazing!!!), falafel, tzatziki (super tasty), salads, and more. There are some heavier Greek options fairly close by, but if you're looking for something quick and delicious, Gyros is the spot. It balances out the heavy Greek foods out with the healthier Mediterranean options perfectly. I'm a huge fan of the gyros and patates here. It's my standby, and I usually don't deviate. The Greek salad is awesome (and you have your own bottle of dressing, so make yourself happy) as well. It's the perfect place to meet some friends to eat something fabulous before strolling the university scene, or even just somewhere to eat alone. Service is pretty quick even when they're busy, and you really can't ask for more in this area. read more

I am visiting family in ABQ and stopped by Gyro's yesterday for take-out. The place seems to be well run and the food is very tasty. The reason I am only giving it three stars is because of concerns over a particular server's food safety practices. I saw this server *repeatedly* touch the tip of a sauce bottle with her bare finger. She was doing this to shake up the sauce in the bottle (which would also touch her bare finger) before squeezing the sauce into little metal pitchers from which the dine-in customers would then pour over their food. I did not see this server once wash her hands while doing this. Instead, I saw her scan her phone, open doors, and touch a lot of other items and surfaces. Mind you we are still in the middle of a highly contagious pandemic and basic food safety training focuses on minimizing the risks of cross contamination with food. I did see the cooking staff handle the food with gloves and so was not concerned about my take-out food. Perhaps this restaurant's management can find another way for servers to provide sauce without having to touch it with bare hands. read more

Been eating here for a long time, probably once a month for lunch or dinner. It's very consistent and we've never been disappointed. Our favorite Greek restaurant in Albuquerque and there are others and they are good too but this one consistently hits our agreeability spot. Because of the proximity to UNM and other Central Avenue businesses, daytime parking is almost always an issue. Many times we can get a spot right at their front door, other times maybe a block away. Never have failed to find a spot but it's something to consider. Occasionally crowded, occasionally almost empty. As it's counter ordering, you may have a stand-in-line waiting experience but this has never been much more than 10 minutes at worst. And typically at lunch. Both indoor and outdoor seating are available with a variety of very exposed vs. very private seats and tables. People-watching on the street can be quite entertaining depending on the season and time of day. We take our bulldog when it's warm enough to sit outside. Menus are posted on the wall near the register and present a fairly comprehensive selection of Greek and Mediterranean dishes. There are complete plates or ala carte selections. The Gyros are outstanding with the combo plate presenting a freshly prepared gyro, fresh cooked petates, and a very fresh side salad with olives and Greek style dressing. The Avgolemono soup is outstanding, a generous bowl with warm pita on the side. The salads are always quite fresh. Overall food quality is very good. Service is friendly and adequate. Prices are reasonable, especially considering the food quality. read more

Burque has some pretty good Greek food. When I moved here, that surprised me a bit. But I've gotten over my surprise and just gotten into the food. Gyros is a nice contender. Not what I might consider classic, authentic Greek food; a little more on the nouvelle Greek side maybe. A bit of a surprise in the university area, but a pleasant one. Service is fast and generally fairly friendly (though I've had a few exceptions). Portions are generous. And the food is tasty. I'm a bit of a Greek food traditionalist, so this place isn't my favorite, but it is a worthy addition to the Greek scene in town. Yes, one of my regular spots. read more
