The meats while less in selection in terms of variety compared to other places were tasty and of very good cuts. The sushi was very good and definitely a cut above other ayce places that have unlimited sushi as well. The service itself was fairly quick as our orders on the tablet was processed pretty quickly. My partner and I visited on a Wednesday night for dinner. We wanted meat and craving sushi as well. The restaurant felt very quiet when we entered but there were many other people eating in the booths. We sat at the table in the back. The atmosphere and decor feels like there was an attempt to feel hip and fun but not quite there. The meats and sushi were actually pretty good! We got some eggplant as well which was already cooked and you just had to heat up. Overall we enjoyed it and it satisfied our craving for basic bbq and sushi. The amount you pay really goes to the food and if you're craving both bbq and sushi I'd recommend as a local spot. However I wouldn't say it's worth it as a try out because food is amazing spot. This AYCE bbq and sushi spot in Bowery is a great dinner or lunch spot with friends or for a date. The interior is decorated with Japanese posters and has private booths for you to enjoy your BBQ at. You order on an iPad and your food is brought out to you soon after. Price for dinner is ~$50, and on Tuesdays it's AYCD hot sake! We ordered a variety of meats as well as appetizers and sashimi. The appetizers were pretty solid. I enjoyed their seaweed salad and seafood pancake. Although their takoyaki was good, I felt like it was a bit too oily. The meat was alright. I was craving sushi and the fiance was craving meat, so we came to Gyu Ichiro and got the best of both worlds. For dinner, it's $49.95 per person whereas lunch is definitely a better deal. Everything is ordered through an iPad with photos, which is convenient. While the meat isn't Wagyu quality, it's still solid with various options. We had different cuts from filet mignon, steak, beef ribs, shabu beef, pork bowl, beef tongue, beef belly, and more. The pork and chicken selection is quite limited, but the beef is where it's at anyways. As for the sushi, I ordered the kamikaze and golden snake roll which were both good. The proportions were good and good amount of fish on them. There's also a limit of one sushi or sashimi or each kind of fish, which was just ok. The sashimi was just decent, so I'd stick to the rolls here. We also got a couple of sides as well with the lemon boneless chicken feet being quite the star --loved this one! I never knew you could get boneless chicken feet, which made it so easy and fun to eat. Of course you still might find a few bits of bone, but not a big deal. The restaurant was cute and felt authentic with the Japanese decorations and theming. I sat on a booth that was elevated on a platform that was private with walls separating booths. For $50 in NYC, I thought the price was reasonable, coming from DC with their AYCE options. They had a wide selection of sushi, meats, and appetizers you order directly from their tablet (like KPot KBBQ). The scallion pancake was one of my favorite apps, very crispy and had just the right amount of thickness to stuff seafood. The meats tasted fresh and high quality, compared to a grocery store or cheaper restaurants. The service was decent. My table was behind the server's table with the supplies and register. I had to ask them for water or an update on a missing item that was requested on the tablet. However, they were nice and quick about getting me whatever I needed. We made reservation just in case the restaurant was pack. Upon arriving we told the staff that reservation was made and it was honor. We were seated immediately inside a booth. At first I didn't realize it but then some people were waiting near a door and realized was seated near the bathroom. I guess there is limited option on where to seat us. So it's a walkway full of private booth. We were seated and given an iPad for ordering. We were given ice water and we ordered as much as we want on the iPad and orders get sent to the kitchen. We were able to tried mostly all the beef, pork cuts on the menu. There were also sashimi and sushi options. No ice cream option in the end. Only a jelly dessert which doesn't seem appealing. Food - The meats were good. The marbling wasn't great, but the flavor was definitely there. The quality of the meat was not good at all. A lot of the meat was very tough and not enjoyable. This restaurant should be embarrassed for serving meat of this quality. Let's start with the good.. the food! There are some mixed reviews here but honestly I found it pretty enjoyable. There are a variety of cuts of meat for grilling and plenty of options for sashimi or nigiri. I would say there were fewer appetizers than other all you can eat Japanese places, but I certainly left full! They're lucky I care mostly about the food. However, I would describe the service and ambience as unfriendly, bordering on antagonistic. I arrived without a reservation as I saw there were plenty open throughout the night, so I figured a walk in would be no problem. The hostess said something about waiting 5 minutes and I didn't fully understand, but I figured she went to check if there was a table available and walked to the back. This wouldn't even register to me normally but contributed to the tone of the rest of the evening.. I checked my phone and saw there was a reservation open within 20 minutes anyway so I was just slightly put off. I did love the private booths, for a date night or maybe catching up with old friends it could be alright. Just don't look up, it's not the prettiest view--pipes and an unfinished ceiling. You cook on the grill yourself whereas some other places will usually come around and move things around for you and ask if you want the grill changed. We found that we were really left to ourselves, adjusting the heat, only getting a grill changed when we asked etc. We were sat next to wherever they receive orders??? Because we heard the constant dinging of an alert sound near the servers over.. and over.. and over throughout the meal. Not only that, a server kept dragging their feet along the floor to make their sneakers squeak. What was once my favorite Japanese BBQ spot whenever I was in New York has now become my least favorite place. My boyfriend and I always made this our first dinner stop whenever we were in town, but we realized the experience has become underwhelming. We used to love the quality of the meats and seafood, but it's now noticeably subpar. The meat wasn't as tender, and the seafood lacked flavor. We came in on a Tuesday and took advantage of the unlimited sake, but after our second round, whenever we placed an order for more meat or sashimi, our server seemed annoyed. At times, they would linger around the table and make us feel uncomfortable. We ordered three rounds of meat and sashimi and the last two rounds were to try some of the nigiri choices among three people, along with two rounds of sake for the table. We didn't feel like we overordered since we finished everything, but it's unpleasant when servers give you strange looks for asking for more food at an "all you can eat" restaurant. They have meats and sushi. Most recently, if we posted something on social media, we got a free lobster. They gave us 2 fresh lobster to grill and they were delicious. Because of this, I am able to confirm that the quality of the meat is pretty good despite the spotty service. My family and I did not have to wait on a Thursday night and we were able to get seated immediately. Since we came with a bigger group and the restaurant didn't have tables big enough to seat all of us, the staff seated us at tables next to each other. After the glasses of water were provided, we didn't see the servers until we got our food. To order, there is an Ipad with all the food options and you can always add more after your initial order. The ambiance is rustic but trendy with the backdrop of a mural on the wall in the style of Confucian drawings of ladies having barbecue. I'm guessing the service mirrors what would have been typical in old times. They don't bother you in the middle of your meal in the fear that they'll get their heads cut off. We tried to use the service button on the ipad to call someone to change the grill, but we had to physically flag someone down because no one came. At least the bathrooms were clean during our visit. The meat was pretty good with the exception of the lamb(?) which was chewy and flavorless. All the premium beef options were tender and well seasoned even if you don't dip the meat in the sauce. The appetizers such as the kani salad and takoyaki were great additions to the meal and the sushi was also pretty good. We finished our meal with refreshing bowls of brown sugar jelly. While the service wasn't stellar, it didn't matter as much to us since we were occupied in our big group anyway. The meat quality is great for the price and we didn't have to wait for a table. The service was a little disorganized, but it does seem to be a bit of a new restaurant with a bit of a language barrier. Okay so first of all I don't normally factor things such as service into my reviews but I should note that the service here was FANTASTIC and the owners should be very proud of their staff for doing such an amazing job. The interior was very pleasant, the tables felt roomy for my large feet (size 15) and the booths were very well designed to create an intimate dinner vibe. That being said I'm going to start out with the negative which was the sushi for us specifically the rice, it tasted rather old but they could have just had a bad day. However the assortment of sashimi, sides, and beef were fantastic specifically the more marbled cuts. In particular I adored the Takoyaki (something I struggle to find good quality of in general) as well as the seafood pancake for sides and the salmon and clam sashimi. I highly recommend the spicy cumin powder that will make your meats taste just like those Chinese skewers from the carts in flushing. My table really enjoyed the garlic shrimp option. Now I'm normally not the type to leave negative reviews, but after my horrible experience here, I simply can't leave things unsaid. Horrible service all throughout the night. We arrived at 6:20 for our reservation. There was another couple who arrived at the same time as us. There is no dedicated host at the front seating guests, so a waitress came to the front and asked us (my husband and I and the other couple) "who came first?" I interjected and said we made a reservation. The other couple said they called and they didn't accept reservations. But to leave it to us to say who came first was the first red flag. We also waited for fifteen minutes for this waitress to even COME to the front of the house. Then she gave us a table near the waiting area by the door when there were several other empty ones. I found this so rude especially when we made a reservation weeks in advance. Then we got to ordering. Good selection of meats, or so we thought. Meats came out quickly but they don't oil their grills here so our nice cuts were ruined because they burnt so easily. We got through eating our first round of charred beef. I used to work at Gyu-Kaku so I KNOW how to grill, so the choice of not providing oils for the grills was questionable. We ordered sushi too, but it didn't arrive until 40 minutes into the meal. I had to ask where our order was and if it was ready. It was sitting out on the line the whole time. Wasn't fresh. You're better off going to an AYCE sushi spot than here. Back to the service, we asked for extra tongs three times before they finally brought us another pair. Another table had asked for water but kept getting ignored so one person got up and took the water pitcher to their table after waiting a long time. After observing the waitress running around frantically the whole night (it wasn't even packed), the staff seem like they don't know what they're doing in my honest opinion. This is a gem spot for AYCE Japanese BBQ. I came here for dinner and the meat were tender and fresh . Great service. Server was quick and attentive. Definitely will go back again!! There is a limit of how long you can stay there. You use the tablet to order the food. The decor inside is also pretty nice. It give off a Japan vibe. I like how the seats are. Ehhh really wanted to like this place but sorry no. 1. Service: Honestly I don't think they were very good at customer service. We made a reservation by calling their number and we had 4 people. We were crammed into sitting in a spot that looked good for 2 or 3 people. We saw tables with 2-3 people sitting in tables fit for 4 people...so not sure what their logic was. When we politely asked to switch tables, we were given an attitude. Second, we wanted two tongs as we saw every table had 2. We only had one and were honestly shocked when the waitress with glasses slammed down the tong on our table after refusing to give it to us. She finally gave it to us aftee we asked why our table was the only one in the restaurant with one tong lol. Why the attitude??? 2. Order lag and mistakes: Several of our orders came very late and/or never came. We also received some items we didn't actually order. Their Ipad was laggy and not too user friendly. They also didn't tell us how much time we had left...thsnk god we checked ourselves. 3. Quality of food: Pretty decent I must admit. Like 3/5? Our group of 6 arrived on time for our reservation but waited over 10 minutes before we were even acknowledged even though it was just our party in the waiting area. We were finally seated in a booth in the main dining room. I definitely enjoyed the sushi/sashimi over the japanese bbq options. The sashimi options were fresh, rolls were loaded with a good rice to fish ratio. The meats were a bit bland, even with the sauces they provide. Meats were also not the highest quality. I do love that we can place our orders throughout the meal via Ipad instead of having to flag someone down. read more

All you can eat - sushi, bbq and "snacks" (aka appetizers). It's about $48 per person so with tax and tip we spent $64 each. We avoided ordering any alcohol because we found the beer prices really high ($10). From the snack we ordered the fried calamari, seaweed salad, another salad (crab I think?), and scallion pancake. The fried calamari looked green which we thought was strange but it tasted good! We had a kamikazee roll and eel and avocado roll. There was a lot of avocado in the eel and avocado roll and it wasn't that ripe. The rolls were the least popular since most everyone was trying to avoid getting full from the rice. We ordered sashimi instead but I didn't eat much. There was lots of beef though!! I could've even tell you what was what! Most I ate. Filet mignon was of course good. The beef tongue was way too tough. Overall it was a great meal and is definitely go back. As for the actual restaurant, not ideal for big groups. We had 5 and we just fit at the table. There is also one grill too. The staff helped with grilling every so often and split the meat up evenly. Only thing that drove us crazy was that every time an order is placed there's a dinging noise that you can hear throughout the restaurant. read more
