We frequent Westtown Amish Market for several things and inevitably pass by the H&L Grill almost every single time we are there and it always looks so good; a solid crowd, usually no seats available, and wonderful smells emanating from the open front kitchen. This time we decided to sit down for a fairly early breakfast before the mainstays of the market opened. To my surprise, not only was I able to order a plethora of lunch items at breakfast, but their ENTIRE menu is available all day long. When you are a soup fanatic like myself, being able to order soup with breakfast is always a plus. Coming from a family that owned a kosher deli from 1920 through the late 1980's, I am also very critical of corned beef and its presentation, and was also excited that I could order a corned beef special so early in the day! My wife also ordered an omelet, of which, there were so many different choices. What I found the most enjoyable about this spot was the simplicity. Everything seemed to be made in-house and sourced locally or nearby, and nothing is overdone. Everything has good flavor and is just good! Not outstanding, but nothing is even close to being sub-par. Everything is simply just good. The soup was excellent as it had that homemade feel and flavor that you simply cannot replicate. The corned beef special, while being delicious, was a bit lean for my taste. The sandwich was great, and I even went to the deli to purchase a little bit of the corned beef sliced to take home to try in my own element, but it was lacking a certain something. Likely a bit of fat and a heavier curing/pickling that I associate with the very best of deli corned beef specials. The prices were reasonable and the space was exactly what I had expected after passing by so many times. Run by a fairly young staff, everyone was extremely attentive and courteous, and the entire experience was a good one. I'd like to try a few more things here, but the one thing I would definitely go back for is the piping hot soup, which I believe rotates daily in addition to the staples on hand. If you go to Westtown Market, or want a nice quick sit down breakfast or lunch and are in the shopping center for something else, definitely give H&L a shot. read more

This is a go to breakfast brunch spot having fantastic breakfast and wonderful lunch special. The omelets here are fresh and comforting and the pancakes and waffles are to die for. You also cannot beat their sandwiches, where there pastrami rueben's are excellent. read more

Ordered the grilled Reuben. The sandwich comes on buttery rye. The corned beef is smothered with oozy American cheese and housemate Russian dressing. I was happily surprised by how savoury this sandwich was. The sauces and seared bread packed a lot of greasy flavor. The corned beef was slightly overexecuted and too lean. In this sense it lacked a fattyness I'd demand from a Reuben. Parts of the bread we're inconsistently chewy and required extra masticatory attention. You wish you were tasting the sauce they put on this cheesesteak and not reading this post!! 9:30 am, a little small, thought the tomatoes would be better since it is a farmers market (I know it's winter) but $7.75. All things considered, this was a very good experience. If you prefer taste to size and on a budget, this is the cheesesteak for you. When you walk in the entrance of the Westtown Amish Market closest to Planet Fitness, you'll find the H&L Grill right in front of you. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner every Thursday, Friday and Saturday during regular market hours. Interestingly, there's a dining room but no wait staff service. If you want service you grab a seat at the counter. If you want to eat in the dining room, you get in line to order and once you receive your food you THEN can sit in the dining room. Sounds strange? Yea- it does to me too. Previously, I've had breakfast there twice for basic scrambled eggs/omelette breakfasts and found it to be okay. Today I tried lunch. The grilled ham and cheese sandwich I ordered was tasty but the bread literally was falling apart. That's a first. With grilled cheese only restaurants and food trucks becoming destination dining spots, this was the first time my bread didn't hold up. The ham was good. The cheese was sufficient. Served with a pickle I didn't eat. The bland potato chips came from an institutional bag. The waitress was nice. Service was fast. I cant remember ever getting an invoice with the message...Jesus Loves You...handwritten at the bottom. It reminded me of my West Chester University MBA Economics teacher who once remarked...Jesus loves you but everyone else thinks you're an a@&hole. It's the little things that make me laugh. If you're at the market, hungry and looking for a bite to eat there, this is as good a choice as any you'll find there. read more

Very nice, cozy and popular "grill" found within The Westtown Amish Market. Run by some very busy and friendly and mostly young people wearing Amish clothing, I assume they are Amish but could, I suppose, be Mennonite. I am no expert, although my mom's family roots trace back to Lebanon County and I know we had Dunkards in our ancestral line... The food at the grill, which is open Th - Sat, is delicious breakfast and lunch faire. Everything I've ever had here is tasty and fresh. This afternoonI stopped by for a western omelette which was stuffed with peppers, onion, and cheese. Delicious! Highly recommend but be aware that the 10 or so tables and booths fill up fast at lunch time! Luckily you can usually find an empty stool at the counter! read more

Really wanted to like this place. Tried it twice and both times were disappointing. First try was tomato soup. It had a strange gritty texture and there were tiny pieces at the bottom of the bowl that looked like grated parmesan, but the soup didn't have the taste of parmesan or cheese of any type. It was a bit peppery, which was not a drawback, but overall the flavor was weak and .... off. The color of the soup looked like there had been some milk added but overall it wasn't a pleasant experience. Next try was a grilled cheese. The cheese was barely melted so again not a pleasant eating experience. The sandwich came with potato chips and a deli pickle spear. I did see some other sandwiches come out and they looked way better -- roast beef and/or corned beef on what looked like a good rye bread. And the sandwiches were heavy with meat. The roast beef and/or corned beef sandwiches are $10.25 with chips and a pickle. Just seems too much for a basic sandwich. I also had iced tea which didn't taste like tea. It tasted like watered down iced tea with a lot of lemon juice. It had the color of an Arnold Palmer with none of the taste. The young ladies who run the place are very helpful and friendly but overall? Giving it a pass. read more
