Wow! My husband and I just tried this restaurant for the first time. Each of us tried the roast beef sandwich with provolone cheese. We split the gravy fries (kind of like meat and gravy) and a plain fries. All of the food was outstanding. Donna was our waitress, and she the best server that we had had in quite a while. She has a big personality! We met the nice owner, Brian. All staff looked happy to be there, and Donna complimented the owner being very nice. If I were a person who drank alcohol and lived near the restaurant, I would become a regular. When we in the mood for an outstanding roast beef sandwich and fries, we will go here again! Sat night 6:30 visit and the place is filled but there is room for two more. We had to try this place passing it so often. Server was friendly and welcoming. Got us two beers quickly and took our orders. I was having a combo with cooper sharp and wifey was having a regular. We also ordered Onion Rings. If you look at the menu instructions, gravy fries are a cheese curd away from poutine. I also had the onion rings, crisp and tasty. This place is pretty good. My boss and I went in on a Thursday for lunch. We walked in and sat a high top near the bar. We weren't greeted by anyone, so my boss eventually went up to the bar and asked if we order there and she was told someone would be to the table. A sign would be nice, maybe we just missed one. The menu is simple. Just pork, turkey, or of course, roast beef sandwiches. I think there's also a broccoli rabe sandwich available. You can add cheese, horseradish. Fries on the side. There are a few other variations. They're served on round rolls. My boss went with turkey and seemed to enjoy it. I had pork & broccoli rabe with provolone. First time eating here since I left the area and was a little disappointed. The gravy fries were still fabulous, but the roast beef sandwiches weren't as good as my past visits. The roast beef itself was dry, and there wasn't enough gravy to make up for it. I don't know if they switched where they get their provolone from, or if they ran out and had to get a back up, but it used to be really sharp and well complemented the meat. This time around I wasn't getting any bite from the cheese at all. I even tried the cheese by itself and it was fine for provolone, but I would never believe it was sharp provolone. Great spot for a simple, quick meal. The roast beef sandwich is appropriately sloppy with just the right amount of gravy, a slice of provolone and an ample amount of beef. Pair it with fresh horseradish and you're left wanting for nothing. The gravy fries are excellent - crisp and piled high with beef shavings. Clean and inviting atmosphere with friendly staff. Carnivores' rejoice! This is the second Western suburbs location of this family-owned joint. The other is in Springfield and of course the legendary original location is in South Philly. If you have visited the other locations you're going to be surprised at the ATMOSPHERE here. This is an extensively remodeled building that looks and feels brand new. There is a rectangular bar that has one more seat then Springfield but feels bigger. There are plenty of tables including some private rooms. For your listening pleasure there is a Wi-Fi enabled TouchTunes juke box. You can also test your skills on Golden Tee. The CUSTOMER SERVICE at the other locations has always been solid and they have maintained that here, I had three different folks touch me and they were all friendly and competent. If you are into adult libations this is a FULL BAR joint with about ten taps. When I visited, three of them were IPAs. Now for the FOOD. The star of the show is sandwiches especially roast pork and roast beef. They carve their roast beef to order here for every sandwich. There are no slices sitting around getting dry. Most folks will add a slice of sharp provolone and many will also add a Topper of broccoli rabe. If you want the entire experience get a side of gravy fries. Depending on your choices you're going to spend $10-$15 not counting your drinks of course. When your food arrives and the wonderful aromas hit you, take an extra couple of seconds and grab a double handful of napkins. This is delicious but messy food. Expect savory juices to be dripping everywhere. That includes you chin, hands, arms and even in your hair. Maybe I'm exaggerating a little but not by much! Stopped in for the first time to grab a sandwich to go. Ordered roast beef with cheese and horseradish. Ready in just a few minutes and on my way. I was pleasantly surprised to find they cut it in half for me, it's a large sandwich and unless you are used to eating large portions, half is plenty to hit the spot. They also put the horseradish on the side, which is great so you can adjust to your preference. My first couple bites I felt underwhelmed, but before long I realized it was only because the sandwich was so hot, I wasn't quite getting all of the flavors. I finished every bit of that half. 2.5 stars. Stopped here last one night around 11 PM. There was only a single customer drinking a beer at the time. I got a roast beef sandwich with provolone and a side of long hots to go. The total was nearly $11 and the side order of long hots should be called a 'long hot' because it contained a single pepper. I got home and the sandwich was just subpar. The roll didn't taste fresh, the beef was cold and dried out, horseradish was watery and bland, and the long hot was mediocre. It wasn't a good sandwich and not worth $11. Hoagiefest at Wawa is charging only $5 for a large sandwich this month and arguably has better hot sandwiches than this particular one. I might go back another time to try the roast pork but I won't be stopping here again for the roast beef especially later in the evening. Just might wait to go to the original Nick's in South Philly instead. read more

Ordering through DoorDash. Be prepared to WAIT! I'm a doordasher. This restaurant is notorious for making us wait for customers food. This is a disservice to your customers and very disrespectful of us doordashers time. We don't get paid hourly hlwe get paid per delivery. We also get reviews that we must keep up so we can rank for the next month. I've been here plenty of time and each time you make us wait way over our original pick up time. Staff needs to call doordash and change their prep time for orders cause this is unacceptable. We shouldn't be waiting 20 minutes pass the pick up time. I wouldn't be leaving this review if this wasnt such a regular occurrence but it happens way too much. I ve stop coming here but today decided to give you another chance. We were looking for a late night place to eat some non fast food, and this place greatly surpassed our expectations. We all got the A combo (Just roast beef with provolone on a bun), and it was perfectly simple but had a great taste. I loved the fries. They were super crispy, which is what I prefer. Service was great, no complaints. It's a Phillies/eagles/etc. bar and a Phillies game was going so everyone was getting into it. Great environment I would say. Anyways, overall extremely pleased. Kinda sad that I won't be driving through this part of PA anytime soon again, because we loved this place. read more

Old Original Nick's Roast Beef in West Chester gets the "A-Ok" Yelp rating from me. The most appealing aspect of their newest location, is that this is by far the kid friendliest of the three. This location is also their largest and provides a nice dining room far away from their hopping bar scene. With that being said, there are some simple and easy improvements that could be made here. The standard menu caters to their adult audience, ice cold beer and hearty sandwiches, however there are no real good menu options for the kids outside of mozzarella sticks and fries. A simple addition of chicken fingers and/or Mac and cheese would go a long way and make this a more appealing family destination. If they lose their stubbornness and adapt a tad they could really take advantage of their bigger setup. As always, the gravy fries were uncompromisingly delightful! The roast beef on this particular night was the toughest we have experienced at a Nick's. With this being our first trip to Nick's West Chester I hope we just caught them on and off night because this was not up to the standard set by their Springfield and city locations. The prices at Nick's are reasonable. I love that they provide hot peppers and horseradish on the table as well as honey mustard. Service was friendly but slow during this particular visit. I really enjoy good roast beef, so I decided to stop into Nicks for a quick lunch. I'm honestly shocked that many people posted rave reviews about their sandwiches, since mine fell flat. My sandwich came out cool. I told the waitress what happened and she said she would 'go get me a new one'. But, I got a bad feeling that they would simply re-heat the sandwich in the microwave since Nicks isn't exactly the Four Seasons or anything. Lo and behold, my sandwich came back out in five minutes or so, apparently 'just made', even though the roll was almost too chewy to eat and the cheese was greasy and floppy rather than properly melted. The beef was also chewy in the center, confirming it was microwaved, and had barely any flavor. There wasn't any broth served with it, either. ( I don't think they could have even if they wanted to, though, since their sandwiches are served on doll-sized plates!) As for ambiance, choose to sit on either a rock-hard chair or a stiff wooden bench in the dining room, or get blasted away by lame hits near the bar. I also had the good fortune to sit near someone who blew their nose every 10 or 15 minutes throughout the entire lunch that sounded like a foghorn in the entire dining room. If that isn't enough to sour your appetite, I don't know what is. Even if you love divey bars, please -- just skip Nicks. read more

After many trips to the Springfield location, I decided to check out the new West Chester store...I went on Saturday afternoon and discovered it's just as good as I expected it would be be. The bartender, John, was on point, witty and quick with my drinks and a joke. The food tasted just as good as always. If I closed my eyes I would have thought I was in Springfield. I have dreams about their delicious hand-carved sandwiches and and gravy fries and my meal on Saturday lived up to them! I was told by John that the beginning was a bit rough due to numerous problems beyond the owner's control, but were quickly resolved. If you live in the area, or if you have ever been to the Springfield location, I suggest you check out Nick's., you won't be disappointed. The bar is beautiful and I checked out the back dining rooms which are REALLY Spectacular, offset from the bar which makes them a good family option. The staff is friendly, helpful an efficient. Let's begin with how overpriced this place is. The amount of roast beef in their sandwiches is what you would expect from a fast food restaurant. They also use paper plates and paper knives and forks like a fast food restaurant. They offer sweetened and unsweetened iced tea, but the problem is they don't offer you sugar for the unsweetened iced tea. I asked our waitress about this she said the owner won't buy sugar. She said the waitresses are embarrassed when customers ask for sugar so they bring in sugar packets from other restaurants. For example the two packets of sugar she bought me for my iced tea were from Dunkin' Donuts! You better bring your own sugar in case the waitresses don't have any. I like a slice of American or cheddar cheese with my roast beef sandwich but this place only offers provolone cheese. I also asked the waitress about this and she's the owner will only buy provolone. Not everybody likes provolone cheese why not offer other options? At place it is provolone cheese or no cheese. The bottom line is you go to a place called Nick's Roast Beef expecting a really great roast beef sandwich. Not quite what I was expecting from a roast beef place. Pros: Onion rings were good Key points: The gravy is very watery/greasey lack luster goop. Small menu VERY LOUD Serfvice is ok/meh I went to Nick's with family during a cross country visit. Most of us wished we'd gone somewhere else. The roast beef isn't very flavorful and a bit too fatty for my taste. Others had the turkey combo (turkey gravy prov) and there was minimal turkey involved, mostly cheese and gravy, they need smaller buns or more meat. The food is something I'd expect from a greasy food truck and doesn't really quite cut it for a restaurant experience. As well the menu consists of minimal sandwich options and sides, which isn't great for families. (I didn't know this going in) The floor layout for the building creates very very loud areas and would be more suited for a finer dining experience. Our server was very nice, but partially absent and there was much waiting around - also not good for people with kids. I think nick's would do very well in the borough with the college crowd but for families its not at all a fun experience. If you're looking to get drunk and have some over priced slop quell your appetite, then I'd recommend. Otherwise steer clear. read more
