This is my first and last time coming to this place. I understand that places will charge extra for sauces, but the charge needs to be consistent across everyone who comes into this establishment. The lady in front of me received her order and asked for a couple more tartar sauces, and the cashier happily gave them to her, NO CHARGE. Even after the lady offered to pay for them, the cashier said it was fine. When I went to pay, the cashier said that they charge for tartar sauces and I was fine with that, even after witnessing her give away 2 tartar sauces a few seconds ago. I asked for the large, but somehow was given a small. I don't know if it's a thing not to receive napkins and cutlery for a to go order, but every place I've been to gives napkins and cutlery. Are people expected to eat this food by hand and wipe there hands on their shirt and pants? This was for my lunch break and it looks like I won't be eating until I can find at least a few napkins. read more

I absolutely loved this place today! The woman taking our order was extremely nice and accommodating. I think it's just her and her husband who work there but the food came out quickly. We've ordered for pickup on 3 separate occasions. Each time the fish'n'chips are fresh and delicious; just like I remember from my childhood. For the last order we tried the fried shrimp. It was some of the best we've had. Needless to say we're planning on being regular customers here! Has been coming here for 10 years, since they were in the old location. I always order the same thing, two fish without chips, and received consistently good fish after all these years. Well i think the fish is shrinking a bit, but oh well, may be it is good for my waist afterall. I pair it with small tartar sauce (for extra $.25) and Caesar salad from Trader Joe. Always for to go. This is honestly the Best fish and chips place! The price is so reasonable. The fish is cooked nice and crispy. They have the thick steak cut fries. You definitely taste the potato. Yes tartar sauce is separate but it's only 25 cents. (It won't break the bank) They also have butterfly shrimp! Which are Amazing with the cocktail sauce or lemon. This place has great fish and chips. The fish fillet is awesome. However they could turn on the A/C. My recommendation do not eat in here unless it's winter. Take it Togo. No AC besides fans running. Wow. Incredible fish and chips. I was very very surprised. I have lived with a British family for 10 years and so I can tell you that this fish and chip place is spot on. They must have visited some real parts of England, or perhaps they are British themselves? I also appreciated the fact they added plenty of vinegar!!! My dad loves this place, and I enjoy the fish tacos when he makes his weekly trip here. The fish and chips are usually hot and fresh but whatever you do, don't ask for extra cocktail sauce. They hate to give you more than a couple tiny containers of it. I even purchased a large cocktail sauce today, and they gave me a large Tartar sauce and extra malt vinegar. I asked for a large cocktail sauce and they handed me 4 tiny portions. I finally just gave up and stopped by Albertsons and bought my own cocktail sauce. They aren't accurate, but they work very hard, they are usually friendly, and the food is almost always good. I frequent this restaurant often. You have the choice of eating in the restaurant or taking your food home. They have many other choices besides the fish. I knew H.Salt Fish & Chips from when I was a kid and was surprised to find that there was still a location open nearby. The fish and chips that we ordered were great. My kids ordered the chicken strips and weren't as wild about them, but it is a fish place so it is understandable that their chicken wouldn't be as good. We ordered take out and the customer service was excellent. They packed our order in an aluminum container which really helped to keep it warm on the trip hone. I have been coming here for years. I know probably all the fish is frozen but getting good fish and chips anymore, is extremely difficult. The fish is the strange triangle shape but is delicious. The fried clams are 8 ounces of delicious, not to heavily breaded clams. Crisp on the outside, truly beautiful on the inside. No sand, not too chewy, just good. Everything I have ordered is delicious! Their coleslaw is the sweet type, but tastes like Tarragon and very delicious, and tastes like it is homemade. Their sauces are good of course they have tarragon vinegar, delicious cocktail sauce and good tartare sauce which taste fresh and not too relishy. The restaurant is impeccably clean, well laid out and comfortable. The staff is very friendly and helpful. For a restaurant that has been here probably dozens of years, it feels clean, and good decor and great staff. Honestly one of my favorite family style seafood restaurant. My girlfriend and I make our way to this fine establishment from Newport. You may ask why? And I simply say, it's that good. Fries soaked up a lot of the fish grease. Service was ok. Mom and Pop place. Pop was trying to keep up, but the phone was ringing and customers were trying to order, so he was behind and getting behinder. Price is on the very low end for seafood, and that shows. It's H Salt. If you know the brand you know how good it is, but the owners here are particularly cheap which worsens the experience. For example credit card few is 4%, a lot higher than most places. Worst of all, if you order any fish... You get no tartar sauce at all. Tartar sauce is extra. Literally if you buy the $40 dinner kettle (10 pieces of fish) you get nothing.
