Very disappointed. I came here a lot but had to stop because it's a bit expensive. I finally order again through DoorDash. The food was so overcooked the fish inside was almost non existent. Very disappointing, especially for the price.

H. Salt Fish & Chips -- A Crispy Blast from the Past Feeling nostalgic, I made a stop at the H. Salt Fish & Chips in Orange, I remembered it being mentioned on on a foodies Facebook page a while back. Growing up in the Inland Empire, I used to frequent their locations at Mountain & Foothill and Foothill just east of Euclid. I remember you could buy a single piece of fish for under a dollar. Fast forward to today: the facade may be under construction, but don't let that fool you -- they're open, and the fryer is working overtime! The fish was a golden, hot, crispy, and delicious just as I remembered. I also enjoyed their chips (fries) and coleslaw, and their quick and friendly service. If you find yourself anywhere near Tustin Avenue in Orange, treat yourself to a little piece of California food history. Sometimes, nostalgia comes wrapped in a crispy batter. A Bit of H. Salt History Founded in 1965 by Haddon Salt in Sausalito, CA Acquired by Kentucky Fried Chicken in 1969 for nationwide expansion KFC's large-scale rollout struggled, and by 1987 the chain split -- franchisees bought their restaurants back Today, only a handful of independently owned locations remain across California

Glad that H Salt is still around all these years. They have great fish and chips and many other options to pick from. We ended up ordering the captains combo, an order of the fried fish tacos, and the sweet potato wedges. They make everything fresh as soon as you order, so there can be a bit of a wait if theyre busy, but its worth it. Everything came out relatively quickly and at the same time. Was definitely pleasantly surprised by the fish tacos. They were quite good and not what I was expecting. The fisherman's combo was great, nicely fried fish, the shrimp were nice and crispy. Another standout were the sweet potato wedges. Seems like they're made with the same batter as the fish, so its almost like tempura. Definitely a must if you come here.

One of my favorite's spots!! If you want greasy, fried seafood- this is your place! If you don't like the grease, you may not enjoy it as much. It's definitely greasy goodness here. The packaging is unique- it comes in a big box! Very sturdy, cardboard-like box. Easy to haul your food in. and it prevents any spills. They also deliver your order with a ton of sauces for dipping. The sauces make it! Ambiance is delivery for us, since we place order on door dash and have it delivered. I love the popcorn shrimp and the fried fish. So good! The hush puppies are addicting too. The jumbo shrimp are great too! We order from H Salt Esquire at least once a month. I wish it was more often, but my arteries keep telling me no. lol

Tables were neatly arranged with hand sanitizer at each one

Had to come here just to get my favorite hush puppies, fish, shrimp and catfish, they are the best! We don't live nearby (about 45 minutes) so while we were in the nearby area we decided to dine in. The service was absolutely amazing. The owners were so sweet and humble and made sure we had everything we needed. One thing that I really liked about the dining area is that they kept hand sanitizer at each table which is so considerate. Since I was so happy with my meal we decided to order a little more to go. Also they have great tartar sauce! I'll definitely be stopping here again whenever I'm in the area!

We stopped by here on my birthday for a nice evening dinner. Got there a little before sunset. There's just something magical about eating outside during a sunset, especially at the Orange Plaza. The restaurant has such a cool look and vibe! We started off with the Hamachi crudo, salmon ceviche, and a bowl of clam "chowdah". The crudo was absolutely delicious, highly recommend. The salmon ceviche was really good but a bit heavy on the sauce for me. The clam chowder had whole clams in the shell throughout. That was fun to pick them out! For entrees we got the lean and mean plate with sea bass. It comes with salad and rice, we substituted the rice for black beans. We also got the skirt steak "bulgogi" which was served on top of mushrooms and bok choy with a sweet soy sauce. They accidentally brought out salmon instead of sea bass, but were very apologetic. They brought out a sea bass on the side and comped the entree to make up for it. Great service right there! The salmon and seabass were both delicious and cooked perfectly. The steak was tender and juicy, full of flavor. As a birthday gift they brought out a thai milk tea blondie sundae which was soooo good! Get it if you like sweets. I wish the owners all the best in their future endeavors, they created a great restaurant that many will miss. Thanks to all the servers, hostesses, cooks, and bussers as well for making my birthday dinner so special!

Hate giving this place a negative review, because as a Brit (from Liverpool), want a this pub…read morenearby to stay thriving, however.. as a Brit I have to call it like it is and address something sour that happened this time. (Note: I have been here many times over several years and have never had any issues. The staff has always been polite, friendly and respectful, food and service always good, like outside of this incident I'd rate it 4-stars). I went to enjoy the England vs. Argentina game today, as I had with previous World Cup games, and something was very very wrong. Immediately at entering I was greeted by new aggressive security people (there were many) that told me "if you can't find a seat you will be kicked out". Very unusual as last two times I was there it was literally everyone standing up and cheering everywhere while buying drinks and ordering food; this time it was half empty and quiet, as if the mood was shut down. Some people standing in what I'll assume are "safe" area's, most sitting. The place is small so there's not a lot of seating, and there were no seats visibly available. I told security I was waiting for my wife to enter and wanted to order something and stood by the bar (near the door), they didn't say anything while I stood there so figured I was fine. Within 1 minute from that moment I was grabbed (GRABBED) by the arm and was told I had to leave and couldn't come back . I went to the back patio with my wife because she arrived the moment I got kicked out - same thing back there. There was a woman security person eyeing everyone and telling them to go to Roscoe's instead, I asked her why she was telling people that when the place wasn't even that busy (compared to last time) and she said oh this is a day job but I actually work for Roscoe's; This sudden presence of intense security was so confronting and obviously making patrons uncomfortable, the place was quiet and many people were leaving. Incredible job Ye old ship management, there's nothing like changing the atmosphere for the worst and pissing off your customers simultaneously. You're a British Pub for crying out loud! No idea how things are going now as I'm elsewhere (not Roscoe's). Avoid this place (at least today), chances are you won't be staying anyway. *Management, want me to change this review? I'd be happy to.. reach out to me - I'd love an apology for this nonsense today and to know that you're going to do better next time. **as a few people mentioned this sounds like fire code issues and they probably got in trouble.. understandable, I get it, but still not ok to treat customers poorly. If security is going to be that interactive with customers you need to hire individuals with better communications and people skills. ***photos added are from previous times attending (before security) and as mentioned, there was never any issues at the old ship before and the staff was always polite and friendly. Take this post for what it is, my observation and experience as a patron - don't be a wanker.

Hey so, remember that scene from Ratatouille when Remy tries to ignite a spark of inspiration to…read morehis brother Emile but ultimately fails? Well that's how I felt with this vendor. I am honestly conflicted which it angers me because of how I LOVE fish n chips but something of how I was served was just... plain! There was no flavor and even bits of the fried batter just falls off. The tartar sauce is really more of a lifeguard than a star, that it saves the fried fish of being just bad, it's not optional, IT'S REQUIRED. Now for the single jumbo shrimp... I saved it for last as the cherry on top, but even that fell short, the shrimp was too tough, as if overcooked, but I'll give benefit of the doubt as honestly frying shrimp while keeping the shrimp itself tender is a challenge on its own. The chips (french fries) are negligible, it's fried well... had to salt it but that is entirely up to the consumer preference (which cannot be the same for fried fish). Now in terms of pricing, it's fairly steep, but when you account for the fries and drink... or sorta evens out? They do give you above average sized fishes so you're not getting skimped out here. The person who took my order seemed very positive and really gave me the reassurance that the food is gonna be great! Which I give benefit of the doubt that maybe I just got the wrong batter. Their vendor is old school cabin looking, it's rather nice, I'm not a drinker but they seems to have a good variety of alcoholic beverages. Oh but speaking of beverages, they mention that their sodas are off brand, so the off taste is negligible for me. Overall, it's an okay spot to grab fried fish n chips but they could be better, I'll probably come back to see if I would have more clarity.
