By far one of my favorite places. The staff is incredible and the menu is nearly flawless. I visit Hai Ky at least four times a week.

The vermicelli bowl is absolutely amazing! They play some very eclectic music and have local artists, some very different works, featured on the walls. The waitstaff sometimes seem lacking in sefvice, but it's such a small place with such low menu prices, I'm sure it's hard to meet the staff to patron ratio. Hands down the best Vietnamese in Austin. I love the Singapore noodles, Cheese Rangoon, and veggie spring rolls. Their iced coffee is a must every time as well. I have introduced several friends to this place and no one is ever disappointed. I just wished I still lived down south cuz there is nothing like it over here in North west Austin. Every time I am in the area I get my noodles to go. The staff is knowledgeable about gluten intolerance. They use rice noodles for most dishes so there are a wide variety of choices for the patron that is gluten free. The staff is also so attentive and drinks are always full. IF YOU HAVE A FOOD ALLERGY, (particularly shellfish) STAY AWAY The other night I added VEGGIE rolls to my order. Having a shellfish allergy, I can't have their meat ones (pork+shrimp). Well, to my surprise (and freakout) I take a bite and find an unsatisfying taste in my mouth. THERE WAS SHRIMP inside. I immediately spit it out and try to call, but they were closed. (yeah, I ordered in the 9 o'clock hour,) It seems since it was close to the end of their night, they just packed whatever there was available in the order. Regardless, I wasn't given what I specifically ordered, in return, almost broke out in hives ALL over my body. Which isn't fun nor cheap. Having to go to the ER is expensive. One would think they wouldn't have to emphasize their allergy upon ordering, when ordering something that doesn't have the allergic substance in it. I've never had this problem before. And then, I never specified my allergy to make sure this didn't happen. So why would I have done it this time? I hope this was a one time occurrence and an accident. Wouldn't be too good for a business to have to pay for medical bills if Legal issues were pursued. Absurd. read more

I'd been looking for a decent Asian place to grub for lunch. Some co workers recommended this place. The food was fresh and I dug it. They just use a lot of cilantro in everything and I'm not a huge fan. I've tried kung pao chicken, sesame chicken, and some pho all were good and cheap. I'll be back. read more

Worst customer service ever. I went with my boyfriend and his parents first time after trying a few vietnamese restaurants nearby with an expectation of having a homemade meal and showing my boyfriend's family how vietnamese food is (I am vietnamese). My first impression was okay, nice decoration, nice ambience. Since we were there for the first time, we took a little bit longer time for when choosing menu because I need to explain the dishes to them (which there was , they come 3 times asking if we were ready within 10 mins even though there were only us and 1 more table, with a "not friendly" face saying "why did we take so long". We took ordered, talked, food came, (and heads up, we need to catch our dishes on the air because they don't put down on the table), we started eating, and fun part happened, just 5 mins after (all plates are still so full), they brought the check put on the table and said "take your time". What? I know there were places giving check when you ALMOST finish your meal but not when you JUST STARTED (I worked in hospitality industry especially restaurant in europe and US for 4 years), we ordered couples of beers and we were about to order more but they brought the check to say "get to hell out of here ad soon as you finish"? The restaurant was a bit full after we came but no other tables have any check on them and they were almost done, only ours? There was no line outside neither. Enough with service, how about the food? Worst spring rolls ever, same sauce for spring rolls and egg rolls? It should be fish sauce or sweet and sour sauce for egg rolls. Every dishes have same vegetable ingredients, my Hu tieu ap chao is so salty, the Thai curry is so blank that i only can taste the spiciness nothing else, same with the Sate beef. Just too much to express my disapointment. The only good thing there were the chili oil and beers which are not their made to be honest. I'm sorry for the long post. It's a good thing the food is tasty - this place sure ain't getting by on its service. I waited 12-15 minutes and didn't even get a menu or a water. The place was less than half full. I came in for a bowl of pho. It was pretty good. Nothing too good, nothing too bad. I noticed a few things that offended me on a deep personal level. 1. My pho came with a twig of a few semi-wilted pieces of basil, I had to ask for more and got another pathetic stick. The bean sprouts were nothing to write home about, I suppose they spent too much time mellowing out in a plastic bag around back. 2. No bottles of Sriracha on the table. Something is seriously wrong when there isn't a bottle of sriracha on the table. I mean, come on, get real with the sauces. 3. Inattentive staff. I ordered an ice coffee and never received it, but noticed it was still on the bill. My water was never refilled. One of the waiters looked pretty stoned too. I don't give two shits what you do on your own time but when you are fumbling to bring two bowls of soup to a table, consider getting stoned a few hours before work so you can have a nice mellow, non-incapacitating buzz going. HORRIBLE SERVICE AND FOOD. One it was freezing in there and we had to eat with our jackets on. The waiter got 2 of orders wrong and didn't even bring out our water and then kept starring at my gf which made her uncomfortable. I joined Yelp just so I could post this review. I have been a frequent customer of this restaurant for almost a year. I have even brought friends for dinner there. Up until last week. Last Tuesday I ordered the Pad Thai Shrimp with extra shrimp. When I picked it up I thought it smelled funny but disregarded it. When I got home and started eating it I found it to be so bad that I couldn't justify eating it. I called them up and they said I would get a credit for the entree. Today I called up just to order some spring roles which is my usual dinner there. I brought it home and again they were awful. They were very with absolutely no taste. I'm not sure what happened with the chef but I'm not wasting my money or pallet on that restaurant anymore. read more

Best pad tai I'm town! Their spring rolls are always delicious and their vermicelli bowls are pretty good. Small restraunt next to a laundry mat parking is not my favorite but their food is worth it. Had lunch with a client here and was surprised at the taste of the food. Everything was fresh, service was fair and have no complaints.

If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. I usually get the #101 which is a delicious combination of stir fried veggies, tofu, pan fried flat noodles & savory sauce. Definitely my favorite dish in all of Austin. The tofu spring rolls are awesome too. I've tried several of their vegetarian dishes & they are all yum. I love tofu & have tried it just about everywhere but this place!? This place does it right. And for y'all carnivores, my daughter gets the vermicelli with chicken & loves it! My favorite place in Austin area to eat. Been coming since they first opened up. Now that I moved 600 miles away I come only 1-2 times per month when I'm back near Austin and every trip has been great. Every guest I've ever brought has been very well pleased. I was in this part of town yesterday and was in the mood for Vietnamese food. Since I've been to the Hai Ky on Bee Cave I figure I try this location. Their Vermicelli with grilled pork is absolutely the best. The serving was huge, enough for me to take some home. Their waiters are pretty low-key but friendly. I just started working on E Cesar Chavez and have checked out a couple of the asian restaurants on Oltorf, 888, pretty good, Pho Oanh I thought was excellent and then I mistakenly ordered to go from Hai Ky, thinking I was ordering from Pho Oanh. Sometimes it's just meant to be. I've only tried the egg rolls and the Pho beef, but man oh man it was delicious. The service was awesome. The place was packed so I know they must be consistent. I'll eat here again and look forward to trying some of their other menu items. read more

Hai Ky is one of my favorite restaurants and right around the corner from my home. I just picked up a #42 and a #96. My family and I eat here at least once or twice a month and it has always been fresh, tasty and consistent. The way you get it on the Drag is the same way you get it when you visit Oltorf. This is saying a lot when even local favorites can vary from location to location. Whether we are sitting down to enjoy the food and the local art work or taking it to go and enjoying it at home, the service is always friendly and welcoming. read more

Hai Ky is not just a pho restaurant, its one with great service. Normally when i go to other PHO restaurants, there is a typical stereo type of service. They come up to you, order, get food, no real service at all. This place is different, and very well priced. I love the pho here, and if your not a pho person, the Kung pao chicken is to die for. This place is just Okay. They had a promo going with 30% off and free drinks I believe. The menu was very limited for a Pho place. I had the Shrimp Spring Rolls (which were actually summer rolls) and a Beef Pho. The spring rolls didn't have much going on, just a ton of vermicelli, poorly julienned carrots, basil and two slivers of shrimp. Honestly, the giant pieces of carrots just killed it for me. And for the pho, the meats were just over cooked to the point I pondered to myself, "How can meat sitting in a broth be so dry?" The portion was large but that's not necessarily a good thing in this situation. I've eaten quite a bit a Pho in my life and this was one of a few Bowls I didn't want to finish. read more

Sadly, while having what may easily be the best pho broth in all of Austin and easily deserving of 5 stars, their bathrooms are nothing short of an abomination. AN ABOMINATION! And thus deserving of zero stars. I exaggerate not, people. I have visited public bathrooms in rest-stops, restaurants, tourist traps, concert halls, schools, gas stations, you name it, in 46 of the lower 48 states, Canada, France and Mexico and this bathroom is in the TOP THREE FILTHIEST I have ever, ever, ever had the misfortune to accidentally let the door close behind me in without realizing there was no tp or paper towel to help me avoid touching the scummy, fingerprinted doorknob upon my extraordinarily rapid exit. Oh, that I'd had some sort of hand sanitizer on my person that day to comfort me after my fight-or-flight response to the standing pools of brown, smelly mopwater, moldy baseboard or teeming waste receptacle. Let us not get started on the soaplessness of the place or the splatters of gradu on the walls and toilet seat. As much as I love their pho, I'm going to be taking my business elsewhere this winter until my fellow Yelpers give me an all clear on their filthy little shitter. Godawful. read more

I used to love Hai Ky! I would always get the tofu Pad Thai. Not anymore! They changed the noodles and basically put NO sauce on them so they all stuck together and were an overcooked ball of sticky noodles of doom. I don't know what my boyfriend ate when we were there, but he said it was terrible and lacked any and all flavor. The iced Vietnamese coffee was watery and tasteless served with about 3 cubes of ice that immediately melted. The only good thing was getting the meal for free because we told them it was so horrible. They were nice about it, but I'd go somewhere else if you want some good Vietnamese food. read more
