An Austin staple making its way to dallas! I love that. Came here bc I loved the Austin edition. It's spacious and much more open and coffee-leaning than a bar. The Austin one feels very loungey, being a bit more bad-heavy, especially with its location in the warehouse district. I thought this would be more of a bar too, but it was quiet and brightly lit. The friend and I decided to have a few drinks here because I wanted to go to a bar. The amateur bartender was kind, but he was by far an amateur. Not quite the mixologist I was hoping for. We approach him with ideas of what we want, but nothing on the menu looked that great. So, we asked him to kind of surprise us. But we gave him alcohol preferences and our general drink of choice (mine being an old fashioned). This cracks me up: he decides to make me an old fashioned with a splash of gran marnier. It's fine, it's not the best drink I've ever had nor is it up there, but it was a bit comical in that the surprise element ended up just being what I normally drink with a splash of GM to make it a tad bit more orange. It's all good, though. The friend had a chocolate milkshake which was way too sweet and not enough chocolate and really quite icy to me. And he also wanted something vodka and holiday-ish. I mentioned to him I had an awesome eggnog drink at another bar, so he was kind of hoping for that, but got a mint spritzer instead. It's good, he likes it, but it's more of a summer drink on a hot day - not a super 40 degree with windy conditions kind of day. He slurped it up with no complaint, but he did think that it was a bit odd that it was a holiday drink. The place was fine, it really was. Though another bartender was basically in front of us the whole time, which made us feel like she was listening to our conversation. It was a quiet place for a Friday night, but we didn't mind. Honestly, I wanted more of a bar experience with the option of having coffee, so I'm not sure if come back. If there was music or a little more of a crowd, I'd be more willing. Terrible food, especially for the price. This time I had a $9 dollar breakfast burrito that tasted worse than Whataburger taquitos. Last time a $7 dollar chicken honey biscuit which was a complete knock off of Whataburger also. My girlfriend had scrambled eggs, and I guess to keep the theme of ripping off cheap fast-food resturants they serve fake instant powder eggs. Giving two stars only because the coffee and atmosphere are ok. Night time bar service is good but the day time service is what you would expect from the rude hispter culture of Austin, neck tats included. So I've been looking for a place to work at night and Starbucks is just a not an option as you know they can be crowded, with sparse seats. Halcyon was recommended by a friend. Here is why this place is the bomb yo! 1. They are open till MIDNIGHT! and it's never crazy crowded (but often a full house). 2. They're coffee is miraculously delish and they give you a nice big cup full. 3. Tons of seating and they have these long strips along the walls that can accommodate 6-8 plugs, so you're never fighting the dude next to you to charge your 17 different gadgets. 4. For a coffee shop, their food is incredibly good and reasonably priced. 5. There is a parking lot on the side street and I've never had an issue finding parking. First time here/ always drove by it not realizing how great this place is. The atmosphere is pretty chill and the noise level isn't overwhelming where you can't get work done. Plentiful seating and vast room to choose from depending on your preference of couch/ bar/ table top seating. Food is hands down perfected: the spicy chicken sandwich is honestly done right, not overwhelming heat but such a kick that really gets your tastebuds wanting more. And finally a grilled chicken that truly tastes like it was on the grill and not just saying it's "grilled chicken" because of the grill marks. Would recommend definitely! I love this place! It's great for happy hour, a couple of coffee, brunch, or studying. I've been here for brunch many times and I've never been disappointed. I usually opt for a skillet mix, their French toast, or their BLT with an egg. If you order a skillet, know they come pre made and you can't sub any of the items, but it's still great. There are many cocktails to choose from. My favorite is trying a flight of mimosas. If you come during their happy hour and order some small bites. Opt for the Mac and cheese and for a couple dollars extra you can add brisket to it. Definitely worth the up-charge. The inside is very inviting to a variety of people. Yet another coffee shop on Greenville, but I love how they made it more sophisticated and "pretty" compared to coffee shops on Greenville. I feel like this is THE spot to come! First, grab some brunch and eat on the restaurant side and then grab coffee and get some reading done on the other. I have only been during brunch so that is how I'm reviewing it. It was busy and the service was a little slow, but the food was delicious! I like the presentation of food and the real bundle of flowers on each table. A little confused by the 3 1/2 star rating because I had an incredible experience at Halcyon! Hoping that they stay consistent to my experience, because if so, they have definitely earned a customer for life! There is a specified parking lot on Goodwin. It's across the street, but the walk is nothing. They had some chill-type music playing upon entering, and the entire space was open and brightly lit. There were a lot of bold accent colors, clean lines and geometric shapes. The large, floor to ceiling windows made the place feel bigger than it is. Don't get me wrong though, this is a decent sized space! I took a seat at the bar. They already had Brunch menus out, and upon seeing that Mimosas were only $3.50, I ordered a traditional one from Jose, the bartender, who was super helpful and friendly! I will say that I debated hardddddd on the Mimosa flight. All the flavors sounded intriguing and I have a thing for flights (I'm just too indecisive! I love trying it all!). Plus, brunch just isn't brunch without the bubbles! But I ended up showing a some restraint. *Pats self on back* Everything sounded incredible. I could not for the life of me decide what I wanted. I ended up deciding on the fried egg sandwich, but substituted the campfire potatoes for fresh fruit. My plate looked gorgeous upon arrival! I loved the variation in the fresh fruit, so colorful and the mango was sooo juicy and ripe! The fried egg sandwich was right on the money, with nice grilled bread, melty cheese, bacon, tomato and arugula! It hadn't mentioned arugula on the menu, I was expecting some type of leaf lettuce, so I was pleasantly surprised to see it! Very delicious and super reasonable at $6.50. I am a big fan of their working hours, during these difficult times Halcyon makes the sacrifice of staying open a bit later than others. While we went to enjoy the coffee and food, many were there getting work done. We went twice during our time in Dallas. For food we ate tried just about every type of breakfast taco, and they were all fantastic. Personally, I would recommend the chorizo taco. We also had the Overnight French Toast and the Country Style Benny. Both of those were great, too. Would also highly recommend their lattes with a salted caramel swirl. A spot where the parents can drink and the kiddo can roam? Yes please. Met up another fellow parental unit and his wife/daughter for an early happy hour. The place was just the right amount of crowded. We snagged a table by the wall and proceeded to get some drinks. They had a really cool happy hour with wines and whiskey from Texas all being discounted. One thing I love more than kid friendly happy hours is drink specials. And whiskey. And Texas. The waitstaff was super friendly and the bartenders took extra care in recommending drinks and plates. We has the flatbread, mac and cheese, and several of the drink specials. For a little extra you can add BBQ (pork or brisket) to your Mac and cheese. We found the pork to be a little more tasty than the brisket. My favorite cocktail was an aged rum drink that was delicious (forgot the name). I may or may not have had a couple after trying the Texas whiskey. I also met someone who was picking out movies as they are going to start showing calendar appropriate themed movies throughout the year (i.e. Scary movies during Halloween). Bar staff appeared too immersed in conversation to walk down to the end of bar to greet either myself or the person sitting next to me. Guess the bar patrons in the morning aren't as VIP as the street walkers getting their coffee. At this point there were two at the opposite end of the bar people waiting getting coffee. Guess regulars have more panache than new patrons. (Disclosure this was my second breakfast visit). Now ten minutes. No greeting. It is only 09:30 CST on a Tuesday. Would be interesting to observe what's it's like here when they are busy. My guess, it I'm on their non serving list for "some" reason. Although I tipped well on my last visit. I had a friend from Plano drive down. As they said - disappointment is my only word. Long story, thirty minutes no service. To the lovely management at Halycon - remember for each person who has a great experience they will tell four people. For each bad or poor experience they will tell ten people. The first time the server even gave me attitude because I asked for a straw he hadn't touched. I came here for a coffee date and had a very pleasant time. You know, after the awkward first date moments passed. Haha. Apparently I'm missing out and need to come back for brunch. Everyone seems to rave about it. When searching for coffee shops that are open late during the week, my search was fairly limited. Then, I stumbled upon Halcyon. The day that I came it was freezing cold but there were a few other brave souls who decided to tough out the cold for a cup of Joe. Since I came later in the evening, I opted for a glass of kombucha after a few moments of indecision. The cashier let me sample the kombucha, which I appreciated. Their kombucha was pretty tasty. At a coffee shop you expect hipster music. Halcyon surprised me because their playlist was low-key fire. They played Drake, B2K, and other hip hop and R&B hits that ended up being background music and talking points during my time there. Before I knew it, the lights were being turned up, the music was turned down, and my date and I were pretty much the only people left inside minus the employees. Awkward turtle. On my way to the car I discovered that Halcyon is right across the street from Val's Cheesecakes so I will definitely be back for brunch, coffee, and cheesecake on a weekend. Very disappointed with the service here. I'm new to the Dallas area and my cousin from Seattle came to visit. We were loving the decor as soon as we walked in. I ordered an iced chai and a Cobb salad. The girl at the counter just handed me a card stand with no direction. I asked the girl that checked me out if they would bring them to us. She said "they will call your name if you just hang here." My cousin then ordered after me, the French toast, and we found a spot outside. I went back in and asked a different girl if the coffees sitting on the counters were ours. They were. I asked if they would then just bring the other items to us and she said yes. I went and sat down and they brought out the French toast right Away. They looked delicious and my cousin loved them. We waited and waited and she was almost finished, so I ran inside just to make sure that they could find me or to see if my salad was on the counter. The girl the checked me out then aggressively asked me what I needed. I said, I'm just waiting for my salad. She goes, they'll bring it to you. And I said, oh I was just confused because you told me that you would call my name. She then proceeded to cut me off before I could barely finish my sentence and yell at me, in front on customers none the less, "CALM DOWN AND DO NOT YELL AT ME. I was just making drinks. I didn't tell you anything!" She kept going on and on. I told her that I was not yelling, because I wasn't and truly wasn't mad at all, i was just confused as to what to do. She escalated a situation that didn't need escalating. It was truly a misunderstanding because I was told two different things. I tried talking calmly to her and she would not speak to me. I told her that I didn't appreciate being yelled at either and walked away. Very maturely she continued to talk about me as I walked out the door. At this point my cousin was done eating. They were bringing my salad out as we were leaving and I told them to just send it back and we left, because I would truly rather be out $20 for a salad and a drink than eat whatever they were bringing me. The only review I could give on what I did try was that the chai was watery, but I obviously would not have even attempted to have them fix a drink for me after that display. I was extremely embarrassed to be talked to like a petulant child in front of other paying customers. I'm also in the service industry and am a manager at my place of work. I would be mortified if one of my girls spoke to a guest like I was spoken to today...after looking into the definition of Halcyon: denoting a period of time in the past that was idyllically happy and peaceful; I'm even more appalled. read more

So my yelp reviews are few and far between. I'm that terrible person that uses the crap out of yelp and never reviews anywhere that clearly has its permanent stance established. BUT since this place is so new I'm doing my civic duty to give it a review b/c It was AMAZING and I need this concept here forever. So I have been PASSIONATELY angry for years that there isn't a great option that combines great coffee drinks, good food, and craft cocktails. Have I tried ascension? Yes, I've tried ascension--their coffee is a solid meh, the food is good, but I prefer more than 3 options, and they only have beer and wine, and then if you happen to want to work with your computer beyond the 6:00 hour they basically tell you it is dinner time and to get out. So that being said, this place kinda solves everything that sucks about Ascension. So they are very welcoming to guests that want to camp with their computers all day as well as people that are coming in to eat. There is plenty of seating for both, and you can tell the space is designed to accommodate both. There are two sides to the outdoor patio, one with tables, one with loungey space, same with inside, cushy lounge area with midcentury mod leather couches and decor, the entire space is filled with bright natural light and tons of huge windows. (I hate a dark coffee shop like Mudsmith.) The atmosphere here is great for me, there is music, and tons of people, so lots of people conversating, this place doesn't have that same library "hush" vibe that houndstooth has. If I so much as have to sneeze in that place I get anxiety about it. So my coffee drink.... I recently came back from LA where I visited the coolest of coffee shops like intelligentsia, blue bottle, philz, etc. What I noticed about the coffee shops out west is that they would usually all feature some sort of delicious specialty coffee drink that was unique to them, not just your common standards. So I get to the counter here and I ask the chick if they have any unique coffee drinks that are "special" or unique to them and she suggested I try a latte with their house-infused lavender syrup. So I got an iced lavender latte... AMAZING. Was everything I was looking for and more. I had to add nothing, just perfect. So then came my southern benedict.... I love a brunch spot with multiple "beny" options, as I hate the ol' traditional one. So my southern benedict was basically fried chick and biscuits with a fried egg and gravy. It was delicious, this is the same chicken that they use on their chicken and waffles, and it was PERFECT. So many restaurants are doing "chicken and waffles" these days that the prep on the chicken at several restaurants anymore is simply chicken fingers thrown on some waffles-unacceptable. Not the case here, I loved the chicken. Their menu has great options, salads, sandwiches, breakfasty stuff, flatbreads, even ... shishito peppers! Something for everyone. I haven't got to the cocktails yet but you can tell by the menu, they don't suck. The decor is midcentury industrial-ish. Like not too industrial. Powder coated metal chairs mixed with wood, exposed brick walls, etc. The bar stools I recognized instantly as I am a huge Eric Trine fan. Really excited to see his work here in Dallas. It's beautiful---lots of natural light, bright inviting chairs and sofas, and spacious for groups yet good for solitary souls too who need a corner to themselves. Located on a Busy corner of Greenville Avenue, Halcyon occupies what used to be Cafe Brazil and man, have they given this place a facelift! Came here for brunch on a Saturday morning. It's definitely busy, but if you get there before 12, the wait time isn't too bad. As mentioned in the other reviews, they do have a private lot behind the Dubliner, but it does fill up fast. It took a while to decide what I wanted to eat; there are so many amazing options! I decide to get the veggie mushroom egg skillet in the hubs got the chicken and waffles. It wasn't going to be a healthy Saturday :-). Skillet dish: The menu notes that there are three eggs plus the veggies but I honestly expected my portion to be larger. A couple of things from the menu were missing but the waitress quickly added them to the side. I was a little surprised at the lack of vegetables in my veggie skillet. Other then the size, it was delicious. I also had the pear and cardamom mimosa, which was good, just a little grainy. Hubs loved his chicken and waffles. It's definitely a hearty portion in comparison to the skillet. They also offer adult breakfast beverages but they are listed on a separate menu. This is a pretty cool coffee shop/cafe. The coffee drinks aren't the best I've had, but they're solid. We always stop by on Saturday evenings to play live trivia and it's some of the best good clean fun around! We always have a blast! Two visits in two days, based on spur of the moment decision. The openness seems great - it's a bit on the nose as the hipster college student-with their laptop and headphone wearing - place. That said, it's a big place. Parking was iffy as the lot is normally full to the brim. Good selection of drinks - and since they have a great bar selection - night I recommend a nice strong Irish coffee to start your morning, delicious. The bar stools are uncomfortable bc you can't quite put your feet in the right places, but I sat there twice anyway - so it clearly wasn't so bad ‍ LOVE the staff! Funny, comfortable, friendly. I've been trying to get to Halcyon FOREVER and today I finally got to try it. SO worth the wait. First of all, the mimosa flights are super cute. I tried the Hawaiian, Thai Basil, Lavender Lemonade, and Mango mimosas. All DESLISH. They ran out of the goblet glasses but still cute nonetheless. The beignets...listen. So tasty and flaky and light. I had the Big "D" Benedict and finished the ENTIRE plate. It was simple but soo delicious. My friend had the Southwest Skillet with some avocado added. Super tasty. I loved the aesthetic of the place. It's a coffee shop vibe with a killer brunch menu. Super happy I got to check this off my list! read more
