Attentive service. Even with a packed house. Great quaint local, breakfast diner. He tried the lox avocado, toast, fried rice, and breakfast tacos. Can't wait to return to try more!

A cute spot in Clayton! It was fairly busy on Sunday but they were spot on with their wait time estimate which I really appreciated. After getting seated, the service was super fast. Our server came over quickly, and the food was out super quickly too. The seasonal lattes were sweet but tasty. I thought the breakfast fried rice was the unexpected winner of the meal - a lot more flavor than expected and I was skeptical about the pineapple but it worked! The pinto beans in the omelette also worked better than expected. Portions were big so got to take leftovers. Not sure what more there is to ask for!

Came here on a weekend for brunch. It gets very busy, especially on Saturday morning so be prepared to join the waitlist ahead of time. They have street parking outside in front of the restaurant. The restaurant is a little bit on the smaller side so with it getting so packed it can be a little tight if you have a larger group. But it is a nice and cute café vibe. The wait staff was friendly and efficient with service. The portion sizes were good and there are a fair amount of options for non-meat eaters. I definitely had plenty to take home with me. Their pancakes are huge and have a really great flavor!

Short wait list this Sunday! Service was fair, pretty busy, we sat inside, but outside was also an option! Lively atmosphere, great for groups and also fine for solo dining. Food is always great, my spouse always orders the blackberry French toast for the table along with the meal. I also had the cold brew in addition to the Cali Omlette!! Yum

Half & Half - a true St. Louis brunch gem! Half & Half in Clayton has that perfect local charm that makes it feel both laid-back and special every time you go. The atmosphere is cozy yet lively -- full of the smell of freshly brewed coffee and buttery goodness coming out of the kitchen. The servers accommodate and make sure your brunch always hits the spot! Their specialty coffees are next level -- the mocha gets me every single time. It's rich, perfectly balanced, and the kind of drink that makes you pause for a second before that first sip. And when it comes to the food, you literally can't go wrong. Everything on the menu is a winner -- from the Clara Cakes (sweet, fluffy, and indulgent) to the breakfast fried rice, French toast, omelettes, and skillets loaded with creamy sauces and golden potatoes. The savory dishes are goddess-level savory -- think buttery biscuits, creamy sauces, and flavors that make every bite feel like brunch heaven. Whether you're catching up with friends, grabbing coffee solo, or starting a weekend with a bang, Half & Half is one of those brunch spots that just gets it right every time.

Avocado toast and eggs with missing seasoning

I came here for brunch with a friend as she suggested this place. She made a reservation and by the time we got there, we were still 8th on the list with plenty of open tables. We checked in and were seated out on the patio. After sitting, we were quickly given water and asked what we'd like to drink. I was craving a mimosa but they only have the regular and grapefruit flavors available, so I went with the classic. Food wise, we both chose the avocado toast but had our eggs prepared differently. A few minutes later we got our mimosas. I enjoyed the heavy pour! Shortly after, our food arrived and this is where things took a turn. When we got our plates, we noticed the two pieces of avocado toast with eggs on top but that's it. We were taken aback that this didn't look like the pictures we had seen and that the dish seemed so plain. Upon moving my egg to the side, the bread was indeed plain. There was no seasoning, not even the everything seasoning that usually goes on top, no balsamic drizzle, nada. It was super disappointing. We finished and then asked for the check. The food was pretty good but overall, I was underwhelmed. It didn't "wow" me like I had hoped it would.

I really appreciate the variety here. I debated between 4 to 5, because I haven't tried many of the coffee options. Since I've only been once, but would return I would say it's worth a visit. So the pancakes, you can order a stack or singular. I was very grateful because I wanted to try it, but with my avocado toast. Not all places have the egg with the avocado and I loved that they offered this. My friend had some type of scramble. They had a miscommunication on chopping her sausage in it, but small hiccup. The only problem I'd have is I would probably want to order the same thing even though they had a lot of other items that looked appealing. Exception being, I would skip the house coffee and try a specialty. It may be obvious for locals, but only paid street meter parking options.

I've been wanting to try this place for quite sometime. I finally got a chance to come in on Tuesday. Apparently, them being open on this day is new. I walked in and the hostess was nice and seated me immediately. Despite my party running a little late he still was attentive in making sure I was okay with water and he went over some menu options that were good. I ended up settling on the breakfast tacos with potatoes on the side. It was delicious and a nice portion of you aren't looking to eat a big breakfast but still want the full feeling. It's a small place and now I understand why it's so packed on weekends. I would suggest going during the week if you can. They got so busy it took a minute for us to get the check. I will definitely come back and try more menu items. As always until next time...

Such a cute spot! Decent amount of seating and great menu. Lots of coffee drink options. We had the Clara cakes (enormous portion), ham and gruyere omelet, and sausage biscuit. The portions were large and the prices are fair. The inside is so cozy and cute. Great breakfast spot!

Porch Pals and Pricey Pancakes - But Worth It! Carson and I kicked off our "Best Places to Go With Your Dog" series this morning at Half & Half in Clayton, MO--and WOW, did it deliver! This adorable little porch, friendly faces (shoutout to our sweet server Olivia ), and a giant cup of baked oatmeal goodness made it the perfect Saturday treat. Carson soaked up every second--tail wagging, people-watching, and maybe accidentally taste-testing a bite of toast.

Half & Half in Clayton is the kind of breakfast spot that's always buzzing with energy, and for good reason. I decided to try their salmon hash, and let me tell you, it was a total treat. Salmon can sometimes feel a bit heavy and too overpowering for breakfast, but not here--it was perfectly balanced. #stlouispescatarisnapproved The hash came swimming in this amazing sauce (seriously, I could have eaten it with a spoon) and was loaded with spinach and potatoes. Every bite was just so lovely. If you're looking for a casual spot with great vibes and even better food, this is it.

Songbird makes great use of its space and should be near the top of your STL brunch list. A reasonably-sized (not-overwhelming) menu, great coffee, delicious cocktails, quick, attentive service, and undeniably delicous food. I took off on a redeye this morning (coffee courtesy of Blueprint), and landed on the Farm Sampler: two scrambled eggs, applewood smoked bacon, sourdough toast, sliced avocado and sauteed shiitake mushrooms. Phenomenal flavors and textures. Toast is typically an afterthought for me, but the buttery crunch of the sourdough has to be spotlighted. The Bee's Knees cocktail was also a wonderfully refreshing prelude to the approaching STL summer. The time has come, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say: wake up, reserve, enjoy.

I was very excited to try them but left knowing I would not return. I waited 40 minutes on a weekday morning for a bar seat for one, standing because all the waiting area seats were taken. The hostess/waitress was very nice when she got to me, but you could tell that the amount of customers was simply too much to handle. Now, this was okay - I should have made a reservation, and it's not the staff's fault they were overwhelmed. However, the service once I sat down was patchy, delayed and distracted. I had to remind different servers of my presence, multiple times. I was willing to overlook this if the food had been fantastic, but unfortunately, their most popular item, the combo breakfast sandwich, was so incredibly heavy. The first bite was crispy, oily and fatty deliciousness, but by the third bite it was simply too rich. The sweet overtone of the honey was lovely but did not cut through the grease. By the time I finished half, I understood why several diners had left the other half uneaten. My personal preference is for a fresh, umami yet balanced sandwich that does not make me feel queasy after finishing it. This was not the sandwich for me. There was a long delay after I finished eating for them to bring me the check. My whole meal took around 2.5 hours. I had arrived starving and, I like to think, with an open mind. These are my honest, unfiltered observations. It is wonderful that so many people want to try their food and that their new space is bigger. Their decor, glassware and menu were cute and tasteful. I also love that they grew from a farmers market food stall and that they source their ingredients locally. With their level of popularity, I think they should focus on preserving the quality of their service and food.

We thought we had to wait for a long time, but it actually went quick (like 5 minutes) when we got there. We did not realize this place had an upstairs, until our waiter guided us. My wife chuckled on how they served her coffee in a Christmas cup. Mine came in a plain white cup. But I still excessively chuckled on how funny the menu is and the staff are. The staff are very attentive to how your food tastes and make plenty of funny jokes with you. They also are very descriptive on what the specials on pancakes and omelettes are. As well as being very honest. I ordered the Benny's Got Beef Or Belly with Brisket. I know, long name. I watched the weather while my food was being prepared, and occasionally looking at the PBS TV nearby. My wife was drawing with my 11 year old daughter (and writing "secret messages") as their food was being prepped and prepared. When my food finally came out, I immediately took a bite. The brisket was very juicy and tender. And the eggs were delicious on the side. I tried this place several years ago. Was still the same good taste that I remember when I took my wife to this place. Whether it is the quaintly appointed guest…read morerooms or the delightful library and parlor, each area of this former residence is unique and meticulously maintained. While it is not likely the norm, the owners, Mark & Leslie, met us at the front door, quite literally inviting us into their establishment. It was simply the most welcoming manner in which to be introduced to this treasure and Leslie quickly engaged us with the history of the home and how she and Mark had recently become the owners. We chose this destination based upon the significance of the Fleur-de-lis to my love, a native New Orleanian. Given St. Louis' rich French heritage, the mansion was originally outfitted with four chimneys that feature the fleur-de-lis design and the pattern is repeated throughout the home. While we enjoyed a quiet morning coffee in the back of the property, a lovely shaded patio area, she noticed how many places the symbol was present. She actually made mention to Mark & Leslie that they could make an activity out of counting/finding all of the fleur-de-lis around the home. What a fun idea! We were fortunate enough to book the Tower Grove Park room, a spacious room fitted with a king-size bed and a two-person jacuzzi tub. There is even a 'fainting couch' for that extra French touch! The bed was amazingly comfortable and the decor and accoutrements were exceptional, right down to the pocket doors and writing desk. But a B&B is set apart by the fare served in the morning, and this is where Mark, a chef by trade, and Leslie, a self-taught baker, knock it out of the park. That morning's menu included a fruit starter, fresh juice, Leslie's home-baked sourdough toast and home-baked English muffins, and Mark's egg and sausage soufflés with country potatoes. The entire breakfast had us completely over the moon! We felt so at home that we wanted to clear our own place - so we did! The rates are competitive and well worth every moment spent here. There is parking behind the property, as well as across from the property, and each guest is allowed a unique security code so as to gain entry while you are enjoying your stay. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed this getaway, and Mark, Leslie, & assistant Sammy made us feel like family from the moment we crossed the threshold. We'll be back - and you should give Fleur-de-Lys a try!
