Long waits on weekend mornings but definitely worth it- you can take a walk while you wait or hop on the waiting list online via home. We decided to go last minute which led to a 20 minute wait. They are very kid-friendly- lots of high chairs and toddlers all around us. The breakfast fried rice was amazing and would highly recommend. The breakfast sandwich was also delicious especially the brioche bun! They get the food to you relatively quickly to continue with the high turnover of the restaurant. Arrived and got seated right away...although the air conditioning vent was blowing on us the whole time Took a bit to be waited on, coffee came at 20 minutes in...food shortly after. Delish! Ok... I will preface this by saying that H&H could only do so much but I have to mention this because it thoroughly impacted our experience: We joined the waitlist on Yelp at 9:40am. It said to check in by 10:35. We arrived at 10:35, at which point the app then said check in by 10:55-11:25. We waited until about 11:05am before we were seated outside (because we had our small dog). We got water and coffee right away and put in our order. At this time, a road crew came through and began tarring the road. Heat and fumes were emanating from the road about 5 feet from our table to the point where we were literally covering our faces. The waitress offered to move us to another table which was a few feet further away but it was completely slanted so much so that my water was sliding off the table if not propped on something. I went inside and asked if we put our dog in the car briefly (on with AC on of course) if we could eat inside. She said there were no tables available. It's now noon and our food finally came out. At this point the steam is so hot, we're physically sweating even though it was actually a cool shaded morning. We asked for boxes right away bc frankly we couldn't stand it anymore. Again, the staff can't control the road crew but maybe somehow could have adjusted seating after seeing it start down the road? Idk. Anyway to the food - it was excellent! If our experience hadn't taken 2.5 hrs, in which time it was ruined by the tar experience, it would def be a five. My husband got biscuits and gravy with the breakfast fried rice. He thoroughly enjoyed both! Would've been nice to get a small side of rice but it was good. I got the steak and eggs which was AMAZING. Would come back just for this! Steak was cooked perfectly, veggie mix was delicious. I also got one Clara cake on the side. It was tasty but not my fav pancake I've ever had. Next time I would try the blueberry because the pancakes themselves were perfectly cooked and nice and fluffy. Order: 1/2 Blackberry Cheesecake Stuffed French Toast & Salmon hash w/ poached eggs Pros: The flavor of the hash was really really hood! No complaints about that. Cons: Nothing about the French toast is stuffed!!! Basically, they have a texas size piece of bread TOPPED with the blackberry sauce and a scoop of the cheesecake that looks like butter. All I tasted was bread, which I wasnt happy about. They can take the stuff part out of the items name. The hash was really good, however, it was soupy. When I think of a hash, i think of a dish off of the grill (crispy). Unfortunately, my did was more like soup than hash. We did sit outside on the patio and there was a lot of flies swarming around not sure why. On the inside, we were originally sat by the kitchen where they ring in orders not a fan. read more

Excellent little brunch spot! The food & coffee was wonderful. The only downside was the waiting area/seating at the restaurant. They are always busy which is a testament to how good the food & service was, but there is not enough room there. The tables are too close & we had to keep scooting so people could make it through, and the people waiting stayed inside because it was so cold so they were hanging around the tables which made it hard to enjoy your meal together with so many people all around you. That was the only negative, the food was great. I got the Tess' Toast & while I didn't take a pic before we ate, it was so much food, so i was able to take 2 slices home! It was french toast with lemon curd & blueberries and I will 100% go back to get it again. Also make sure you get on the waitlist through Yelp ahead of time!! It helped so much! read more

The food was amazing but we had to wait a longggg time. We decided to come for brunch at the suggestion of a friend and saw that yelp had the online wait list- awesome! Since we would be brunching on a Sunday morning, we knew the wait would probably be long and joined the wait list when we were still at home and came to the restaurant about 5 minutes before the check in time given on the app. The parking is the back of the restaurant and we were easily able to find a spot. After checking in at the restaurant they told us it would be another 10 minute wait but unfortunately we ended up waiting around for about 20 minutes. The service from our waitress was very attentive and energetic but we waited almost 40 minutes for food. We went through all the phases of having to wait for our meal: first hunger, which then progressed to the stomach growling phase, then to the willing to eat anything in sight phase, then we eventually arrived at the 'so hungry I'm not even hungry anymore' phase. Fortunately when our food came out, our hunger promptly returned and we proceeded to spend the next 10 minutes in silence as we all chowed down. The food was so good! We had the salmon hash skillet and it was delicious! The salmon was perfectly tender and the sauce was rich and flavorful. The portion was generous and I ended up taking some of this home! We also split an order of the Clara Cakes and that was a great call because it really was like a dessert and I'm happy that I didn't order it as my full meal because it may have been too much but to share it with the four of us was perfect- it reminded me of the flavors of a toaster strudel but so much more delicious! In all, I would come back here again and would recommend it to friends but definitely be prepared for a wait. read more

It was great to be able to use the Yelp Waitlist to check the length of the line and once we checked in we only waited about 10 minutes. The food was excellent - particularly the blueberry pancake with blueberry butter. I also enjoyed sharing the Greek omelette and veggie eggs Benedict. I have visited this place many times while visiting my sisters family in St. Louis and I really like the vibes in here. This is a great, somewhat upscale restaurant that is great for breakfast or lunch. They have a simple but diverse menu of staples that will definitely leave you satisfied. We arrived a little after 9am and there was ample seating. We opted for a seat at the bar and I got Avocado Toast with an egg and a great cappuccino. The food is always really good and executed well. You can easily eat too much or just the right amount depending on what you get. It is definitely on the pricier side but well worth it in my opinion. If you are looking for a breakfast spot that is more than Starbuck but not quite a fancy, sit-down spot, try half & half! You will not be disappointed. read more

It's a 4.5 star. Food and service is 5 star but the wait time is not well managed. We were a group of 9 and a furry baby. Everything we ordered was delicious- special mention to the skillet steak, French toast latte, eggs Benedict, biscuit with gravy and Clara cake. Also on the table was breakfast tacos, oatmeal( described as heaven in a bowl by our sweet server), veggie hash, stuffed French toast. If I could give this place 100 stars I would!! I absolutely love this place and it is by far my favorite breakfast/brunch restaurant. I've spent some of the biggest moments of my life here. My now husband took me here the day he proposed because he knows how much I love the food specifically the salmon Hash (IYKYK). I even had my wedding planning meetings with my bridal party here. I have this going joke with friends and family that if I bring them here they know I REALLY like/Love them and they are special to me lol. It's one of the places you don't want to tell people about because then it will be too busy but you also want to tell the world because it's soooo good. The wait list a lot of times is lengthy and you may have to wait 30+ minutes but it's worth it. I have the menu memorized so I never have to look for what I want. The servers are always amazing and stay on top of service during your visit. They are located in a safe area and offer indoor, outdoor and bar seating. I would recommend them to anyone traveling to STL and is wanting a good breakfast brunch spot or even a STL native such as myself that is looking for their regular spot. read more

My husband and I just left after waiting 40 minutes for a table. We were seated on the patio. Waited a bit longer than usual for a server to greet us and take our drink order, so we had plenty of time to decide what we wanted to eat. When the waitress finally came and asked what we'd like to drink I told her we were ready to place our food order as well. She snapped that she'd get to that in a minute. My husband asked well if we could place our food order, and after she repeated herself in the rudest, most annoyed voice we got up and left. This girl needs to be sent home and find a different job if she can't handle working with the public. Had she even used a nice tone when talking to us we wouldn't have been so put off. Disappointed that a great restaurant is tainted by a rude server who would be better suited with a work from home job. read more

This place is BUSY! Go early or come prepared to wait. The service was incredibly friendly. From the hostess to our server we were shown such kindness and hospitality! The food was delicious and portion sizes were pretty large. You definitely will not leave here hungry. There are tables on their patio in the front, or several tables and booths inside. There is also bar top seating, which is kind of fun to see all the action. There were not many large tables, so I'm not sure how easily they could accommodate groups bigger than 6. read more

Arrival - we checked into the waitlist on yelp which was very helpful to our wait time. When we got to the restaurant and checked in with the host they were friendly even though they were busy. They told us that it would be about 15 minutes so we could just hang out for a few. My boyfriend and i decided to go check out a local boutique while we waited, but about 3 minutes later it was time to be seated :) Staff during meal - our waitress was so helpful and so friendly. She was very attentive to detail. I would literally go back there for her. It's great when the staff makes you feel like you've known them forever and are a friendly face! Food - we had the cinnamon donut bites, French toast, biscuits and gravy, eggs and bacon, a Bloody Mary and a cold brew with cream. It was all VERY delicious. I think our favorite thing was the donuts. My second favorite thing was the biscuits and gravy although i wish they'd been a little warmer temperature wise. (Sorry about the pics, we certainly did not let the phone eat first!) Bathroom - clean and a one person stall. Decor/Design/atmosphere - very cute little place and it had a great vibe. Busy brunch joint with good food. My boyfriend and I ordered Clara's Pancakes, Lox Toast, Veggie Hash and Chai Tea Latte. They made an extra Blackberry Stuffed Brioche French Toast and gave it to us on the house! It ended up being my favorite item of our meal aside from the Chai Tea, which was pretty good, as well. Clara's Pancakes are the most popular item on Yelp, but I personally wasn't a big fan. The granola wasn't that crunchy which I think would've added more textural contrast. Veggie Hash was alright, not much flavor except the carmellized onions. Customer service was lacking - I asked for outdoor seating which the host nodded to, but then we got seated indoors. The breading on the chicken sandwich wasn't the favorite for our friend and my egg sandwich was a waste of money. Our service was horrible as well. They didn't server all four dishes at the same time and ironically the egg sandwich was last which for a bun with cheese, two pieces of bacon and a single egg... Really... With a side of fruit... Then we never got our waters refilled so I asked a different waitress if she would ask ours. He didn't come so I went inside and asked him. He claims he was just going to check on us. And I said well if you could refill our water. Food still hadn't come and even when it did no one ever filled our water again . We asked for the check when the food came and he asked if we were in a hurry. We said not necessarily but seriously after over an hour without food then getting our food... When you mention brunch in St. Louis, Half & Half is usually part of the conversation. This Clayton hotspot is loved so much so that the wait for a table can be longer than rewatching every episode of Seinfeld. Definitely plan to check in on your Yelp app well in advance of arriving. The earlier you get on the list, the better. The space in Half & Half is intimate, and brunchers don't rush through their meals. This is mainly what causes the long waits. I checked in about 20 minutes before arriving and still waited about a half hour. But it's worth it!! The food at Half & Half is so fresh. You feel like you're eating on a family farm with the highest quality ingredients. The french toast is definitely worth trying. And the portion size is massive. I also love their coffee. It is roasted specifically for Half & Half by Park Avenue. Gotta love spreading all that local love! My most recent trip I ordered the Roasted Tomato & Egg Sandwich. I wasn't blown away by the sandwich, but I still very much enjoyed it, scarfing down the whole thing in the blink of an eye. Two things to note about Half & Half. They have some off street parking available behind their restaurant. The lot is somewhat small and serves the entire shopping plaza. I always check there first to see if there are any spots open. More often than not, there are spots! The other thing to note is the frustrating entryway. I considered docking Half & Half a star because they really should address their waiting area sitch. People will sit in the doorway, blocking the flow of traffic to and from the host stand. And usually, they're fairly rude/oblivious and try to continue to hold their waiting spot on the doorway bench. There's really no good place to stand while you wait besides the street. read more

My mother and I went to Half & Half as first time visitors today. Parking was a thing but it was as to be expected in Clayton. We entered and immediately saw a range of people from families to corporate types. Jackie was our server and she took great care of us. She was of particular help when I was torn between the lox Benedict and the biscuits and gravy. She got me a single biscuit and a side of gravy and it was delicious. I also had the lox Benedict and I can definitely see myself going back for more of that. Previously I didn't enjoy eggs Benedict that much because of the traditional English muffin but Half & Half uses a slice of rye bread instead and I found I like that a lot more. Pair that with a perfectly poached egg and house made lox salmon that made this take on eggs Benedict really stand out. The hollandaise, capers, red onion and dill spread were wonderful accents. The sausage gravy and biscuit was delicious and I also had an iced caramel latte that I was able to savor. I cannot wait for my next visit. read more
