I can't say that I have been to Biloxi, Mississippi but since was here, I figured I'd partake in the Mississippi cuisine. For some reason, I am on this oyster kick. It happens every now and again for no apparent reason. Last week I had eaten a few in Charleston, South Carolina so why not give Biloxi a shot. I found this place and I wasn't disappointed. I went during lunchtime so it wasn't that crowded. The staff was extremely friendly and the hostess was very pleasant upon arrival. She offered a table but you all know I am a "sit at the bar" type of person. They have two bars, one on the main floor and one upstairs. The bar on the main floor was full so I headed upstairs and that's where I met Diamond (bartender). She was full of energy and did not hesitate to take care of me. I ordered a dozen raw oysters and they were brought out within minutes. Since I've been eating raw oysters for the past couple of weeks, I asked Diamond for a suggestion and she recommended the Oysters Orleans. Now ill be perfectly honest. I am not a fan of cooked oysters however, I wanted to try something different. Oysters Orleans are charbroiled over an open flame and basted with their New Orleans style smoky Cajun sauce topped with Parmesan Cheese. I must admit, these bad boys were pretty good. But nothing beat the raw gulf oysters, with tabasco and horseradish on a saltine cracker. If you happen to be in Biloxi, stop by and give them a try. There are two locations, one inside the Hard Rock Cafe, and one that is the stand-alone restaurant. I went to the stand-alone establishment. If you stop by, tell'em Drew sent ya! Yall be easy now! This place hits every time! I came here a few years ago when I was in Biloxi for a fishing trip, and I've thought about it ever since. I am back in town for a work trip, and I recommended this place to my colleagues, and everyone loved it! Royal reds are one of my favorite things ever, and the cheese grits are delicious! This place is so great! I have been twice to this location and both times have been fantastic! This time our server was Tyler K. He was very friendly and had great suggestions. We ordered Pineapple Jalapeño Margaritas. Which is hands down one of the best drinks ever!! We split an appetizer - fried green tomatoes and crab cakes. The fried green tomatoes had a light crust and were great. The crab cakes had no filler and were delicious! We split the Half Shell salad which was great. We then split a pound of Royal Reds shrimp. Peel and eat. They were perfectly cooked...so buttery and absolutely delicious!!! The entire staff from walking in and being greeted by the hostesses to the waiters to the staff assisting all over are all friendly and welcoming. The food and service are always top notch! So good we ended up visiting twice on our trip. We stayed at the Hyatt Place and this was right down the street. Ambiance was wonderful, service was great and food was fantastic. The 2nd night we came was a busy Saturday night but the they were able to squeeze us in upstairs near the bar. I was worried because I feel like bar service is hit or miss but both bartenders were fabulous and very attentive. I ordered the blackened redfish with Cajun potatoes and added a side of blackened shrimp. My husband ordered the seafood sampler and added the Orleans oysters. Make sure to order the Royal Reds & Jalapeño Hushpuppies for an appetizer. We definitely will return if ever in Mississippi again. Great date night spot or nice family dinner. read more

First of all, I've been coming to Half shell since y'all opened and every now and then they make some menu changes that make NO sense! Why would you change the dip to a "chilled" dip and increase the price. Nobody wants that. Please go back to the regular dip. Great food. I'm not a fan of the seafood gumbo, but this place does it pretty well compared to other areas. Their raw oysters aren't as good as what you can get in NOLA, but it's pretty good. Their famous Oysters Orleans were so good (with lemon ofc). The service was great. The servers are so sweet and patient and continually check in on you. The decor is really nice and it's a nice vibe. There is something seriously amazing about the seafood in Biloxi. Everything we ordered at the Half Shell Oyster House was spot on. The oysters are definitely a must try. Service was not so bad considering how busy it was. It gets pretty crowded so I suggest coming in early to get a table. We were lucky enough to sit at the top floor by the window. It's a little dark inside the restaurant as the sun goes down, but it sets the mood. I would recommend having a date night here if you don't mind the noise. While on an epic road trip we were told we HAVE to visit Half Shell Oyster House. Spoiler alert. Rock solid...meh. We stopped in on a 3,000 mile road trip at the behest of some of the people we visited. We ordered the Oyster Sampler and the Smoky Bacon Shrimp and Grits. The oysters were grilled and decent. I don't know if we showed up on an off morning or what, but every bite I had, had some shell or crunchy bits in it that made it VERY difficult to eat. The flavors were pretty good, but I think I would have been happier just ordering a dozen and some horseradish. The shrimp and grits were interesting. They come on a bed of polenta style grits instead of the creamy grits you are used to. Again, they were nothing to write home about. If you have eaten at Brennan's in Houston, they will knock this dish out of the park. So a little of the beaten path and kind of lack luster food. Also, the floors were extremely dirty and the bathrooms...just don't. The staff also just seemed to be there. There was no fizz or zip with them for being such a renowned institution. We were seated in less than five minutes. Service was excellent. Food came out quickly and it exceeded our expectations. Part of it, we were really hungry. We were there for an hour and a half and got a watery appetizer and none of our entrees arrived after an hour waiting. We had tickets to a show and had to leave and we told the manager we hadn't gotten our food and I handed her my card to pay and we were still charged for one of the entrees that we never received. The server took at least ten minutes to come to the table and he said he was sorry because he got sat a large table and was busy with them. If thats the situation management should have another server pickup tables that are being ignored. We missed part of the show that cost us $200 to see and never had dinner and paid for food we never got. Disappointing to say the least! We come here for dinner every time we come to the casinos (but we like going to the restaurant location down the street from Hard Rock because we prefer it). The stuffed portabellas are amazing. I actually don't feel guilty eating the whole thing. It's very filling and delicious. My only complaint is the time they dim the lights you go from lunch to dinner. When you're not expecting it, it feels like you've been out in the dark for a moment. Maybe they could find a way you adjust a little slower so it's not so jolting. Well I don't know just how to put it any planer than this. I was really in the mood for oyster! When she asked me what I wanted I said just what your famous for and she said something other than oyster and that should have gave me some idea on what I was going to get. Now I don't believe something was done on purpose but I believe it was a normal thing and that's not good either because the first dozen I got were great I could not have made them better myself and I should have stopped right there and been on my way and this would have been a completely different review but no my enjoyment got me to want more. I ordered another dozen and they were terrible and I was so disappointed. My waitress asked how they were and I explained an she offered to replace them but I couldn't eat any more so I decided to try to eat a dessert to make up for what I didn't like and I ordered the bread pudding. Oh my goodness, I was given something that had been cooked a long time ago and very hard had some type of sweet sugar glaze of some kind with no taste. I could not eat it either. Now I not big on tipping bad food but she seem to be honest with her attempt to care. I would have to tell her she would have gotten more if the food had been better.
