The food may have deserved a 4 star, but the service dragged it down. I think we had a new server because he had to return to our table on two occasions to confirm our orders. This is a more than adequate BBQ restaurant. The pulled pork and brisket were both tender and tasty and the four sauce choices were good. But as much as I would like to give five star review, I just can't quite go that far. First, the restaurant was COLD. Is already cold and rainy outside and it would be nice to come into a warm and toasty establishment. Where do I begin. The staff is so friendly and nice, you feel happy just walking in. We tried the brisket, turkey, and chicken, the beans are the best BBQ beans I have ever had. Last night we had about finished rejuvenating our lower patio and decided to have some good barbecue for dinner. So.....we called Halfsauced and ordered up a ton of grub and expected them to give us the usual 30 minute or more time, they said come on over , it'll be ready in 10-15 minutes. We rolled over there and behold!1 it was all packed up and ready for us. Got it home and it was exactly as we ordered and fabulous to eat. They have a modest dining area,but is closed during this no contact time, but they were Johnny on the spot with their call ahead orders and even a simple drive-thru for a quick load of the meat. They have a posted menu online and outside on the drive-thru and if you have a particular thing different from the posted menu, they will accommodate you within reason. This place is not your usual glitzy theme eatery. It is there to serve you good ( & I do mean good) food at a fair price for your whole family. The only thing I will recommend is try all their sauces and pick out the one your taste buds like. The kitchen will take over and make you happy from there. read more

Place is too cheap to run heat! My family and I ate our lunch with our coats on. Food also was cold, had gotten silverware with cheese on it so obviously it's not clean and whoever rolled the silverware decided to roll that one in the mix. And last but not least we all are taking pepto, so I'm assuming the kitchen if filthy based on everything I have experienced there. This was a pleasant surprise. We had a large group and tried a little of everything. All the meat is slow cooked and very smokey. The ribs, burnt ends and brisket are dense and full of flavor. The pulled pork is very tender and mixes well with both the sweet and spicy sauces. The pit beans were good but not as good as some of the reviews here would suggest. My Mike got the sampler platter & I got the pick two smoked turkey & pulled chicken. With the pit beans- so yummy Smokey & green beans. The home fries are crispy & delish by the way. Thankfully Mike shares some with me. FYI- for the ribs, you can request sauce on the side. Mike loved the sauce which is not the norm so it's a win either way. Can't say enough about Jones Outpost and their delectable food. We went to get the breaded lobster and we weren't disappointed. Stayed to have a piece of pie for dessert, and we weren't disappointed with that either. It's a 27-mile trip for us from home, and that wasn't even enough to cause disappointment. Wow, the food here was phenomenal! I had the "you pick two" platter--pulled pork and pulled chicken. My mom had the pulled pork and beef brisket. The pork was very moist and served without any sauce, but there are four choices of bbq sauce on the table. The pulled chicken already has a sweet sauce on it, which was so tasty. Brisket was awesome! We got to pick two sides with our meals. Both of us had the baked beans (yum!). I had creamy coleslaw, probably best I have ever had. Mom had potato salad which she said was good. We also got a side of spoonbread to share, which tastes like a mix between cornbread and corn casserole. Soooo good! Based on the reviews here, I drove 25 miles on my birthday to have dinner here. The ribs were awful. Dry, tasted bad and the meat wasn't even pink or juicy, just a dark grey, dry mess. They had been cooked the day before, reheated and served to me. The manager admitted that they had come off the smoker at 10 pm the previous night after I had complained and asked if they had been cooked that day since they certainly did not taste freshly cooked. So, I won't be going there again. I mean, who pays to go out to eat so that you can be served bad tasting leftover food? All the barbeque places I have been tell you up front that they run out of food at some point in the day because they only make so much and don't try to serve that food the next day. To be fair, the manager did offer to bring me different ribs. They turned out to be from the same batch of ribs. REALLY?? They were not good either if you are wondering. So, they provided me some small pieces of brisket as a substitution. The brisket was cold but tasted good as did the potato salad and the pit beans. I paid the full bill. This restaurant is not recommended since they don't seem to have a problem serving leftovers and certainly didn't seem too apologetic about it. Seems pretty dishonest to me. read more

A good place to eat near Osage Beach. The flavors were good. They were out of chicken on a Saturday at 7:15, so call if there is something you particularly want. So, as a traveller in Missouri, I naturally attempted to find good BBQ. I passed Half-Sauced and saw their sign out front noting their recent award as being voted "Best BBQ" in Lake Ozark. SO...that was enough to get me inside (though there were no Yelp reviews...). Upon entering, the familiar smell of smoked meat greeted me kindly, which inevitably brought a coy smile of "I'm about to eat BBQ" goodness to my face. Complementing the fantastic aroma was an aural quantification of Half-Sauced's accolades in the form of two full walls of ribbons and awards from various BBQ competitions. Hey...nothing says good BBQ better than a golden plastic pig holding a banjo, on top of an intricately carved wooden display piece. We had to wait for seating as we had a party of five. This was a little odd, but whatever. The waiter was a moderately pleasant young kid ( didn't look older than 18 or 19), who started us off with what the menu described as "simply the best jumbo onion rings" and drinks. The onion rings were good, but nowhere near what I would call "the best". For me, I prefer a yeasty beer batter on my rings. These were more of a panko type of breaded-ring, and while good, the coating did not hold together as well as a batter coating. The onions, however, were great - large thick-cut rings which were nice and sweef. After deep-frying, the rings were served with a decent horseradish BBQ sauce. Overall, not a bad way to start a meal. The menu is somewhat standard, with no real surprises, other than pan-fried corn on the cob and something you don't find everywhere...Blackened Beef Ends!!!! This made my order easy - the combination plate with beef brisket, blackened beef ends and 2 sides. Interestingly enough, I asked the waiter what the place was known for and he didn't really know. I then asked him the simpler "beef or pork" question, to which he replied pork (although somewhat wearily). Decent side orders...somewhat standard. I went with a green salad and "pit beans". It took about 20 minutes for our party of three adults and two kids to be served. Considering that the place was only about half full, I thought this was a little long. The service did nothing to impress us - long wait, ran out out of sodas (which are refillable at no cost), and mixed up a couple of items. Once the food arrived, I was ready to feast. The presentation was good - each of the meats was served on a separate piece of Texas Toast, and at opposite ends of the plate. I immediately reached for my spoon in order to try the Pit Beans. About half way between the bowl and my mouth, I knew the beans were going to be special, as the aroma was already wofting itself into my mouth and nose. The INSTANT the beans (which also have brisket in them) hit my mouth, I nearly melted, as my eyes rolled shut and my taste buds came within moments of exploding. These beans are without a doubt THE SINGLE BEST beans I have ever had in my life. The sauce is a relatively light colored mix of smoke and sweet flavor complemented by a moderately thick texture. The smoke flavor was simply out of this world, and the beef brisket addition only enhanced the already-savory bites. I could have eaten this all day!!! Next came the blackened beef ends. These were actually thick and somewhat fatty, and slathered in a light BBQ sauce. I did not care for the fat pieces but the burnt ends were very good. Surprisingly, this was not as smoky as I had anticipated, although still very good. Like I said...I did not care for the fat, but the dish was dominated by the ends, not the fat. Now, because I was smart, I saved some of those amazing beans and went back to macking those savory bites...eyes rolling back, and lips covered in lickingly-good smoke goodness. Then it was on to the brisket. The beef brisket, just as the burnt ends, was served on toast, and came with five 1/4" thick slices, dry. I tasted the two available BBQ sauces ( sweet, or spicey) and settled on the spicey. The brisket was a decent cut of meat, though relatively lean, but was slightly overcooked in my opinion. Now, I only mention this because it was dry, and I prefer my beef moist. The flavor of the beef was very good although nowhere near as smoky as I had hoped. Lightly blackened edges were nice but I would have preferred that the brisket stay in the smoker a bit longer. Other items in our party were the smoked turkey, pulled pork and a grilled chicken salad. The turkey was VERY smoky, which I love, but also VERY MOIST, which I don't. Overall it was good but the moistness would preclude me from ever ordering it. The pulled pork was good...not what I would consider championship quality, as their numerous trophies elude to, but I'm not a judge. Overall, the trip to Half-Sauced was a good one. The beans alone were enough to rock my world. Service was blah, prices average, portion sizes also average. If you like BBQ, you must definitely try Half-Sauced. read more

I have eaten here three times and every time I've eaten the same thing...so, spoiler alert!! This review is only about their outstanding beef brisket!! I wanted to make sure that it wasn't just a fluke that I had not only received friendly and professional customer service, but that the brisket was not something I had dreamed up in a half sleep on the couch. I am going to be one of those dorks that writes "I've eaten bbq all over the states, the more off the beaten path, the better." I LOVE bbq and I hope that the last smell I smell before the good Lord calls me is a great big whiff of bbq smoke! I will return one night and try the ribs with my husband (his fave) but beef is what I crave and want, all the time. This brisket has been juicy, perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned all three times that I visited. I had the creamy coleslaw twice, not sure if it's homemade, but it's sweet like the KFC style of coleslaw. The fries were not so great the one time I tried them, kind of cool and stale but really, the brisket totally makes up for it. Today I asked the nice lady at the drive thru if she could add some of the fatty brisket parts to my pound of brisket. They did and it was amazing!! They are not cheap with the portions of meat and at first glance, you'd think the brisket was burned because of the blackened outside...but it is not. However they cook the brisket, the char only adds to the flavor. I am always trying to find the perfect beef rib but this will have to do until I get to Texas....please give them a try. On a BBQ scale, we are just about average here. Spending the weekend at the lake, we thought it would be good to try a BBQ place that we couldn't try back in StL. Rated by the Ozarks as one of the best in the area, it seemed like a natural choice. Service: Not so great. The hostess was going to seat us, then was told to seat us in someone else's section, so we moved. Then apparently she didn't tell our waitress she had put us there. And all through the meal our waitress apologized, FOR EVERYTHING. If she didn't have our drinks filled instantly, when she put down our food, when we needed the bill, when we paid the bill. Somewhere in her life someone told her if she didn't complete menial tasks in the exact instant they were ready to be completed, she should apologize. It was mildly annoying. She did all of these things in a normally expected window of service, except for our initial greeting. The Sauce: First things first, well second b/c the service was so weird, but before the FOOD is the SAUCE. All good bbq goers know to try the sauce before the food even comes out. Sweet or Spicy. Neither was really what it claimed to be. The sweet was not all that sweet, the spicy not all that spicy, both just slightly on either end of a basic sauce. So whatever, used the spicy. Food: The food was good... I don't know much of the competition around LOTO for bbq, but this was rated one of the best in the area. I got the ribs, because I love good ribs. They were cooked well, nothing to complain about really, and I ate my whole plate (just the half rack guys... sorry I am not a real man....). I got two sides, cole slaw and fries. I am a HUGE fan of creamy cole slaw, but I am actually fairly picky about the way it is prepared, and while this didn't quite match up to my high standards for shredded cabbage and mayonnaise, it was pretty good. I only store in my memory awful cole slaws so I know never to order them again, and this place is a re-order. Fries are fries, so really nothing new there. He ordered the burnt ends, which were good, but not great. Ok, so we didn't order this, but I honestly don't think I can go through the review and not mention it. The "Smoked Meat Salad". This is the kind of thing that both makes me want to laugh, and then vomit. Really a smoked meat salad? What does that consist of you might ask? Well, other than the smoked meat of your choice (pork, beef, turkey or ham) you have the basics, lettuce, tomatoes, etc, etc, all topped with cheddar, and oh yeah your choice of dressing. The couple sitting behind us were pondering the menu... and the girl said she thought she would just get a salad... which I don't know why you came to a bbq place for that but live and let live... and then she ordered the SMOKED MEAT SALAD. with ranch dressing. It probably does not need to be said that this girl probably could have forgone the ranch dressing, as well as the smoked meat topped with cheddar masquerading as a healthy meal option. I am sure it was delicious. Also, my beau loves sweet tea. Now, I think its gross, but they claimed to have it, so he ordered it (I just got a coke). But in line with the sweet sauce, it was not very sweet. It was much too sweet for me, b/c I like unsweetened tea exclusively, but he ADDED splenda to it to sweeten it further. Maybe they just meant sweetened tea, not sweet tea? Cost: Average. I wouldn't say we got a deal, which is sometimes fun at a street side bbq joint, but I think we knew what we were getting into when we walked in. Overall: If you are looking for bbq at the lake, give this place a shot. Although I think if we go back to LOTO we will likely try another joint. read more
