Great Happy Hour. Delicious, fresh fish and great service. The patio bar and patio are always jumping so if you like it a little more quiet reserve a table in the dining room. The crispy rice, yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño, albacore sashimi with crispy onions, and the Shiso Lemon Roll are our go to's. The Shiso Lemon roll is so refreshing. We were there last night at a community fundraiser for the Venice Heritage Museum and we grubbed down! The owner, Hama Mama Esther, is always gracious and very supportive within the Venice community. Thank you Esther for all you do for the Venice community. Xoxo

We were looking for a sushi restaurant where we could also watch the World Cup game in the Venice Beach area and this place came up as an option. We were lucky enough to be able to snag a table without a reservation. Great bar area with a large tv. Decent sushi.

So things have really evolved here over the last 8 years since my first review. There have been major makeovers and changes, including a hidden patio area outside that can be rented for private functions. The walls are modern and sharp, whilst still paying homage to old Venice with gorgeous photos of yesteryear. The menu has had a few changes as well, some that I don't love (the green devil roll used to be my favorite, but they use such little chili oil now I rarely order it; and they no longer have my favorite wakame salad), but some welcomed new ones (oooo that one ramen bowl!). I now find my self here, if not every week, then every other week. Love it!

I made a reservation for 5:30 pm last Saturday. Although the restaurant was still empty, the hostess gave us the worst table in the restaurant. I nicely asked her to get me a better table, but she denied me the opportunity to sit at the other available tables (for two) that were in the Main room. Because of her lack of goodwill, I decided to tell her to get me the table in the Sushi room, because my reservation was for there. She didn't believe, so I had to show her the screenshot from my cellphone to prove it. I go to this restaurant since 2004 when I first lived in Venice. I know the owner Esther since then. The 3 stars I am giving are not for the food or for the way this wonderful lady runs her business, but I find important that she's aware of how some employees can suddenly turn her business into a bad experience, like the one I had that night.

You can put your name in and hop over to the corner door for a drink. It's a mix of handrolls and kushiyaki. This last time I went, it was a date night and my husband ordered the 4x4 and I got the flavors of Saijo. The standouts in the flavors of Saijo included the oyster, the dry-aged sashimi, the scallop uni one bit hand roll and the signature hand roll (which is Blue Crab, Shrimp, Salmon Belly). I also enjoyed the shrimp kushiyaki. I enjoyed the other handrolls as well, but wish they didn't chop up the salmon. It would be nicer as larger pieces of fish. I find myself comparing it to Kazu Nori or Yunomi (both of which we love). The service was great and attentive. It's a nice spot for a date night or to catch up with a friend! I'll be back - and hopefully for the lunch special.

I loved that it was a mix of raw hand rolls and cooked skewers. While the place is pricey and the wait can be long, we thought the food was great. The handrolls were exceptional and so fresh. I loved that each dish came out freshly made and handed to you but do wish they didn't come out so quickly. As someone who is a slower eater, it was a bit overwhelming how quickly the food came out and the skewers would get cold as I couldn't eat fast enough. However I assume they want to turn around tables quickly so I don't think it's a grazing type of date night spot. We really enjoyed both the handrolls and skewers and look forward to coming back soon!

I've been going to SunnyBlue since their first location opened in Santa Monica on Main Street!…read more I'm seeing people get confused between the locations and the CULVER CITY LOCATION HAS SEATING with a community table inside and several smaller tables outside. The Santa Monica one is more grab and go as it's their smaller flagship location. This business has been carried by the owner Keiko who has brought a slice of Japan outside of the designated communities of West LA's Sawtelle and DTLA's Japan Town! Here (at either location) you will find unique delicious flavors of omusubi but also called onigiri rice balls! That you won't find anywhere else! Rice balls are actually shaped into triangles and stuffed or mixed with simple ingredients like a salted plum called ume (it tastes salty, and tangy with a touch of sweetness) To more engaging offerings like the lucky cat with japanese pickles with fresh wasabi, ginger, and bonito(dried fish that is sliced paper thin) These finger foods can be enjoyed as a snack or grab a few to make a meal. The Culver City Location has a decor that immerses you in Japan. They have a small market section with alcohol such as saki, handmade dishware from Japan, cute claw machines for kids, and expanded meal offerings! Besides Keiko being absolutely amazing, the food is as well! From curry stuffed to fresh shisho leaves and pickled wasabi!!! There's lots to choose from and the best part.,,.they have always had an expansive vegan menu! Yes they are very Vegan Friendly! I love the Eggplant Chili Miso and Wasabi Tsukudani. I highly suggest checking out the Culver City location so you can sit down and enjoy a drink and the ambiance and expanded offerings. After going to this place for nearly 16 years there are rare days where things like the rice may be off due to a mistake, but I've only experienced that a total of 2 times in 16 years so it's pretty rare!

My friend eats here a lot so I wanted to try it out myself…read more I placed a togo order online for a miso beef and sunny blue curry omusubi. The order took awhile (about 30 mins) but there is an online tracker and it's quite accurate. Both omusubis were made fresh. The rice was kinda falling apart. It could definitely use more protein. The curry one is sooooo good but needs a little more salt. The beef was good too, it reminded me of Yoshinoya. It was about $6 for one. They have a combo plate but I didn't need the sides.
