I made a reservation for 5:30 pm last Saturday. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Although the restaurant was still empty, the hostess gave us the worst table in the restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I nicely asked her to get me a better table, but she denied me the opportunity to sit at the other available tables (for two) that were in the Main room. Because of her lack of goodwill, I decided to tell her to get me the table in the Sushi room, because my reservation was for there. She didn't believe, so I had to show her the screenshot from my cellphone to prove it. I go to this restaurant since 2004 when I first lived in Venice. I know the owner Esther since then. The 3 stars I am giving are not for the food or for the way this wonderful lady runs her business, but I find important that she's aware of how some employees can suddenly turn her business into a bad experience, like the one I had that night.

So things have really evolved here over the last 8 years since my first review. There have been major makeovers and changes, including a hidden patio area outside that can be rented for private functions. The walls are modern and sharp, whilst still paying homage to old Venice with gorgeous photos of yesteryear. The menu has had a few changes as well, some that I don't love (the green devil roll used to be my favorite, but they use such little chili oil now I rarely order it; and they no longer have my favorite wakame salad), but some welcomed new ones (oooo that one ramen bowl!). I now find my self here, if not every week, then every other week. Love it!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Patio is mostly indoor with an open roof, it's a fun ambiance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Great place to grab a Japanese beer and some small bites off of their happy hour menu.

My office. Double fisted for max decompression.

Still my favorite local spot. The beauty of this institution and Venice staple is that it is family, friendly, as well as a great place to watch sports and get your party on. Hey, be sure to say hello to Logan the GM. He is always down to accommodate, meet new guest, and hang out with us locals. He has reinvented a few things on the menu and always has a great attitude. If you're lucky, Esther will be there. She is a strong woman who watches over her product. A personal mentor and inspiration for me and a gem of a friend to all. Everyone there is quality. Naoko, Steph and Marg to name a few. Enjoy.

Service was great! We sat at the sushi bar and they were very attentive and super nice. I was looking for a place to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and this place did not disappoint!! I'm not a sushi fan myself but I even liked the cucumber roll. My boyfriend enjoyed his crunchy crab roll. Highly recommend!

Very good Sushi. Very friendly place, one of my firends was a frequent Hama customer and they actually named a drink after him.

The ambiance is relaxing and authentic. I love to sit at the bar. The salmon sushi is my personal favorite item on the menu - simple but incredible quality. My husband loves this hard-to-find beer they import from Japan, too! You'll have to ask them for the name. Enjoy ;)

They don't have a lot of the beginner or over the top type of rolls. Everything is just very straightforward. One of my favorite parts is they have indoor and outdoor seating, but if you choose to sit outdoor, which is what we did, you're able to sit in a covered patio on the second floor and have almost views of the bay, but still really nice views of the area. Service here is very fast and our waiter did not really speak English but was very attentive. It's in a small shopping center so there is a lot of free parking attached, otherwise it will be street parking. For this visit, we just did a mix of nigiri, hand rolls, and cut rolls. I would say some of the highlights were the yellowtail nigiri, the baked crab roll, the salmon roll, and one of my personal favorites: the spider hand roll. They have a revolving menu with some things that stay and other limited run specials so it's the sort of place where you can get something new each visit. I will definitely be back again soon and would recommend.

We came during off hours-ish (around 1pm) and were able to be seated immediately at the bar. There was a bit of a wait for an actual table. Our server immediately explained the menu as it was my first time here and offered recommendations. My friend and I both opted to get the Nozawa set menu, which had a mix of sashimi/nigiri/hand rolls. I don't usually eat hand rolls, but this was a great first time experience. The menu is well crafted and the timing at which the food is brought out to you is also thoughtfully planned. I can't even pick a favorite because everything was delicious. The Nozawa set was also a good amount of food. Ambiance was great, and the bar was a great spot for people watching. There are a lot of small touches which make dining here a great experience, such as how fast your plates are cleared, and how the bathroom even has unscented vs scented hand soap depending on if you're washing your hands before or after your meal. Staff was super friendly as well.

The food is fantastic, perfect taste as usual!! The service is a hit and miss at this location. With our server covering several tables and the bar area, made it a bit difficult to get his attention. He took a break during our service and his replacement was struggling to keep up. I had to ask for a refill on our sodas and forgot. Once our original server came back, there was an improvement in service.

When my friend suggested this restaurant, I didn't even look at the menu because I was like, well,…read moreit's Los Angeles. Even though I have dietary restrictions, I'm pretty sure there's going to be something on the menu that I could eat. Now when I got there and I saw the very brief menu, I was stunned and I was like, oh my gosh, I should've looked at the menu before I came here This looks like I'm about to be eating a bunch of raw fish. But to my surprise when I looked closely, I was able to see that there was a whole section of grilled foods and appetizers that I could eat. I ended up ordering: - the miso soup - the edamame - the cucumber salad (for appetizers) - sea bass - oyster mushrooms - shrimp - the ginkgo nuts Every single food item that I ordered was delicious. I was genuinely surprised by how flavorful everything was and I was particularly impressed with the sea bass and oyster mushrooms. These two dishes were phenomenal. I don't know how they made that sea bass so flaky and moist and just melt in your mouth but it was so good. I don't know what sauce they put on top of it but that thing was amazing. The oyster mushrooms were so good that we ordered two more orders of it. For the edamame, the only thing I didn't like was that it was served cold. I don't know if that's like a traditional way of serving it or something but I'm used to having my edamame be served warm or hot so that was unusual for me. The server was amazing, super attentive and very kind. He always made sure we had what we needed and there was even something that was mistakenly served to us but he took it off the bill and allowed my friend to eat it anyway so we were grateful for him. He was also really good at explaining the menu and the dishes that he liked. The vibe in here is social but a little classy. There were these ladies that were sitting to the left of us and one of them just randomly started talking to us and asking us if we were from the neighborhood, which was a little odd because... why are you asking me those questions??? Other than that the vibe was fine and I would definitely come back here again. One thing to note though is that the food is served kind of like tapas style so if you're expecting massive portions and to be stuffed to discomfort, this is not the place where that's going to happen.
