I've been to Mitsuwa a dozen times, so I don't know why I've always overlooked Hamada Ya. Luckily, the sweet tooth in me finally took over and dragged me over to look at the pastries in awe one day. Per someone's Yelp review, I ordered the ice green tea ($2) which was incredibly refreshing, light, and delicious. It was so good, I had to ask the girl what the brand was (Yamamoto sweetened iced green tea) so that I could go buy and recreate at home. Definitely recommend! For pastries, I've only tried the cream puff, and I'm definitely a fan. More cream than Beard Papa's in my opinion, which isn't a bad thing at all. Different shape than Beard Papa's though, where the pastry is split, so it can be a bit more messy eating. Awesome dessert though, especially if you just finished having ramen next door at Santouka. There are so many dessert options, so if cream puffs aren't your thing, there's bound to be something that tickles your fancy. :) Somehow I've never gotten around to trying the green tea soft serve, but that will change in the future. Hello, matcha & vanilla ice cream? Yeah, my self control has no chance. The sandwiches there are also pretty bomb. I've tried the egg salad & tonkatsu. Egg salad is on the creamy side, and doesn't have too many add-ins (such as celery or anything). I can't eat too much of it, so I always opt for the half/half with the tonkatsu. That sandwich is pretty filling, tonkatsu sauce isn't over the top, and you can have it heated up so don't worry about eating cold meat. All sandwiches are made with the bread they sell, and that bread is pillowy soft. My bf loves it, and can eat an entire loaf of bread (just bread, no toppings) in one sitting. All in all, don't overlook Hamada Ya for being small. It's a hidden gem with great options for desserts, drinks, and snacks. Service is always awesome, and I always make a point to stop by when I'm at Mitsuwa grocery shopping now. :) read more

I ocassionally get Green Tea ice cream from Hamada-Ya. I've also tried their Half Vanilla/Half Green Tea ice cream (though I personally prefer ordering a pure Green Tea ice cream from them). The ice cream is always delicious. read more

AHH I LOVE YOU! Green tea and vanilla swirl mixed soft serve - strong green tea taste - the way I like it! This is the best frozen green tea dessert that I've ever had. It probably also hit the spot really well since I spent a a whole day in the hot sun at Venice Beach. It's so adorable since they put cereal on the bottom. So cute! There is one thing about this place that makes it my fav for boba- their iced green tea has macha in it :) This is the only place I've been where it is served like this, most places just have regular (clear) iced green tea. Their staff are ridiculously sweet and attentive, the location has a decent parking lot except on Sunday's during the time the farmer's market is also running. read more

Cream filled coronet is le bomb. I had one just to try it after asking the sweet girl behind the counter if it was good, and she informed it was really good and they sell out everyday. Then once I experienced the delightful deliciousness of this lovely pastry while my friends ate tempura, I had to go back and buy two to take home, one to let my mom and sister try. So you've had your fill of salty, greasy ramen (Santouka number 62!) and you want a sweet treat? Walk your ramen soup belly 30 feet over to Hamada Ya for some dessert. They have the usual selection of sweet pastries and some savory ones. The cream cornet and strawberry cream puff are amazing. The cornet is flaky and they cream is not too sweet, as I've found with other Asian bakeries. If you're feeling adventurous try the curry donut, which is nothing like western donuts. It's spongy and savory. The best is the coffee, which is always piping hot and cheap. The worst part is that there's not much space to add your cream and sugar, and if there's a line you feel hurried.. Yes, I'm talking about you, impatient old man with ramen breath. Just lemme add my cream and sugar, bro! At least the servers are friendly. read more

Back for cream cornet, they're so good, not overly sweet, and buttery and flaky. Their green tea ice cream is a great ending to a Japanese meal-feast in this food court. At $3.50, it is on the pricey side, and it is a soft-serve ice cream. But everything is expensive in the West side of L.A. What I thought odd was they add golden grahams at the bottom of the ice cream cup, to perhaps save on the quantity dispensed? This is my favorite bakery to buy bread, baked goods and ice cream. Their sandwiches are all so delicious, the Boston cream donut has a thick real chocolate on top, loaf breads are soft and fresh, and the green tea soft serve is the best green tea ice cream in LA! If you go to Mitsuwa in Torrance, they have more selections of breads, but they don't serve ice cream there. I feel lucky to live close to this Mitsuwa! read more

Amazing customer service. The workers there are always super friendly and they are quick on their feet. They don't keep asking you to try seasonal items or buy the most expensive thing, but instead try to get a feel for what it is that you are looking for. Always very patient and never rush a customer when ordering, even when the idiot ordering takes 8 min while texting the entire time. They have delicious pastries and scrumptious ice cream that is like no other. Give this place a chance! Two in particular, Aila and Akela, are simply wonderful at their jobs and both of these young ladies are ALWAYS friendly when I go there and always have smiles on their faces. This location is not nearly the same as others, a sentiment shared by other yelpers. The pastries and ice cream are not up to par with other locations. To boot, the customer service (specifically Isla and Mina) are subpar. We used to come here every other week as a treat at the end of a Mitsuwa food court dinner, but this past visit, my child immediately dropped his cup of ice cream by accident. We returned the counter, and they simply said we could buy a new one. I understand that my child dropped the ice cream, but some token of customer service would have gone a long way. I am a total fan of this place. I love their boba drinks and their pastries are delicious. It's affordable, fast and tasty. They also take cards, something that the other places in the food court at Mitsuwa don't. They offer green, black, and coffee milk tea bobas as well as a wide variety of Japanese style pastries and a few different types of soft serve that one can customize with various toppings. The boba is always fresh and is the perfect balance of chewy and sweet. Their melon bread and custard filled pastries are super delicious, and make for a perfect dessert after getting something tasty in the food court. The people who work there are always nice and have a smile on their faces. They never mess up orders, which is pretty hard to do, but it's an important point none the less. Everything they serve is under $10, with most things being under $5, which makes it super affordable. For what they serve, Mitsuwa is the perfect place for them. It's a great place to get drinks and desserts, but they don't offer much in terms of a full meal, but that's ok with me, because there are plenty of other places in Mitsuwa that do. read more
