honestly this place surprised me in a good way. the fish tasted super fresh and didn't have that weird aftertaste some sushi spots get. the rolls were actually packed and not just a bunch of rice trying to fill space. i got a spicy tuna roll and a salmon nigiri and both were really solid, especially the salmon it just melted. service was chill too, not awkward or slow, they checked on us but didn't hover. the place itself felt clean and not sketchy which matters for sushi lol. prices weren't crazy either for what you get. definitely feels like one of those spots you can keep going back to and not regret it. i'd come back for sure. read more

Food was good but when checking out with $100 visa gift card, it kept declining. This was to a $130 bill, so after being declined 3 times due to the cashier not understanding that only $100 to be charged, and being told maybe go get cash out, we just paid. This cash comment made me want to go check the gift card transactions and noticed they were processing the transactions for about $155 twice and $120 once. I am not sure where almost $20 extra was came from. When I used personal card, it was correctly charged, but now that just concerns me as to why they were trying to charge extra at the first two attempts. Hana Sushi is one of my favorite sushi restaurants to stop for dinner between my drive from San Diego and the IE. They are conveniently located close to the 215 freeway, just west on Newport Rd and Haun Rd. I have dined at the bar and in one of their booths, but haven't dined outside their patio. Every time I've been here, the service has been great. The servers are always busy - working nonstop - yet they are still able to provide good service. The ambiance is casual - come as you are. I really enjoy the music they've played here. It's definitely loud inside, which doesn't bother me because it makes it fun. It's family friendly and they have a variety of options to choose from. Prices are higher but that doesn't bother me because I know the quality is much better here. I dine to eat quality not cheaply made food. We really enjoy the Grilled Yellowtail Kama (Collar) and I especially love their Golden Hana Roll - this is what keeps me coming back. They are generous with the fish here and you can see it in the fish-to-rice ratio. The salad is good and filling as well. I like that they offer gluten-free sushi and non-rice sushi /sashimi. The chefs are awesome! If you happen to be stuck on the 215 freeway and are thinking about sushi, Hana Sushi is one of the best in the area. And they have other locations as well! I ordered a California roll. When I received it, it tasted abnormally crabby. Because I didn't eat anything that day, I went against my better judgment and ate it because I was starving. I've had food poisoning for two days now. When I called to ask for the manager and let her know. She immediately said, we sold 1,000 California rolls and you're the only one that got sick! How she got that number in less than 20 seconds while on the phone with me. Then proceeded to tell me I can't prove it. What a terrible response! I ordered the Hot Night Roll ($18.95) and the Viking Roll ($21.95), both SOOOO GOOD. Viking roll was hot while the hot night roll was cold.
