I order the spicy miso (as pictured), and even though I've tried the spicy miso at many different ramen places, this is definitely my favorite. The amount of spice in the broth is the perfect amount. It's not too spicy where it makes it unenjoyable, but it's also spicy enough to where it MIGHT give you a runny nose. The bowls are huge, so you know you're getting your moneys worth. There was a bit of a wait as this brand new l, and is very unique to Denton. They seemed to move everyone along very quickly, and we were seated in fair time. If your party number is less than four, be prepared to possibly sit next to some strangers, as seating is not abundant here. Our service was just okay. I could tell from observing that perhaps there were some really great servers, and we just lucked out. You would think that they would want to suggest some things since they are new to the area, but it was a very standard "what do you want" They have ramune to drink, which I found pretty awesome! However, like most things here it was slightly overpriced. I found that to be the trend here, is that items are maybe one or two dollars out of their typical price range that you would find somewhere else. However I imagine Hanabi can charge these prices as, once again, they are unique here. The food was once again, pretty standard through other ramen places. What you would find here, is on par with others. The pork is very good however, and just simply melts in your mouth. We will defiantly be back to try out some more stuff when the hype dies down a little. Update: it's been a couple months and I've visited several times. They still get very busy at dinner time, but usually no wait for lunch! I've tried multiple dishes and I've still really like everything I have tried. One of my favorites is the Kara miso ramen. It's a spicier version of the original miso. The chashu don is also great to share as a little appetizer, I believe it's only a couple bucks for some of the best pork belly I've ever had. I also really liked the dipping noodles I ordered once. They are a a different concept for most people, the noodles are served cold, and you dip them yourself into the broth. It's a great way to control the cook of the noodle as well as broth level. I can see it being a great option for some people that are really picky about food groups touching lol. The service has also improved a lot since the first visit, and all the people that work here seem happy. I typically see the owner in the back laughing and helping the staff. I'm glad he makes time to be here, and it's clearly a priority for him. He also owns and operates two other locations, so it's great to see him involved. I think the only reason I'm still going with four stars is because sometimes they lack slight consistency. On occasion, the chashu is just too fatty, to the point of being chewy, rather than melt in your mouth. Pro tip: DRINK WATER while you are here! Even fresh ramen is high in sodium, and it helps you keep a clean palette. You can get very dehydrated after eating a big bowl from Hanabi lol! read more

I really don't want to leave one start because I haven't had a chance to try the food and it looks amazing. I wanted roosters but my fiancé insisted on going here instead. I was reading reviews and saw that someone said at 8:30 (which was the exact time I was reading the review and now writing mine) they turned them away when people were dining and the open sign was on. literally word for word what happened to them happened to us. It was like a premonition. One guy was going to seat us then a girl walked up and said "sorry we're closed for dine in but can do takeout" ... that's fine but your sign says open and there fours tables seated and actively eating and you don't close for another posted 1.5 hours. The gyoza, the atmosphere, and the service were all fine. The ramen, however, was honestly just boring. The chashu should've been seared or something, but it was fatty and soft. The broth had almost zero flavor, although the Black Tonkotsu's garlic did help some. The noodles were okay, and the ajitama was cooked well, but had almost no seasoning. Sigh. We really wanted to have good ramen, but we're used to Ramen Tatsu-ya in Austin, so I guess we're spoiled. Sorry, not trying to be harsh, but... seasoning, man. Food is good but when I seen the cooks in kitchen throwing wash rags around back and forth servers over cooking area that more than likely proved to be likely for contamination issues. And cook pulling his ear buds in and out is not hygienic with his ear wax on his fingers when he has to take an order. Plus staff does not need to be on your phones all the time, I'm sure there is cleaning to be done, like the freezers. Guy in the news paper hat needs to work a little more. read more

Party of one that waited 30 minutes to be sat. A party of seven that came after me got sat before me. Then the same happened to a party of three. At that point it's been 30 minutes and I figured to order my meal and take it home. Ten minutes later a party of one got sat and I'm sitting right at the podium. Lovely atmosphere & friendly staff. I ordered the vegetable ramen & it wasn't BAD, but it didn't blow my mind. I think they should add a few more vegan options, there were only 2 vegan friendly ramen options. The broth was a very clean flavor, which wasn't bad at all, however I wish they had some more creamy options. Traditional Japanese ramen is very creamy and rich, so although that is hard to reproduce as a "vegan" version, I have tasted it at other ramen places so it's definitely possible. As far as the non vegan ramens, they looked very good & seemed to capture the essence of traditional ramen, which Is why I am giving 4 stars :) I would recommend this place if you're not a vegetarian or a vegan. read more

Though I like ramen quite a bit, I don't have it often because I'm definitely a rice girl at heart. Nonetheless, I was excited when I saw this place being built, and glad to find out when they opened! Yesterday, we were running errands on a cold, rainy Saturday and decided this was the perfect time to try them out. We arrived a few minutes before they opened, but as soon as they flipped the open sign, a couple beat us inside, lol! The décor is entirely light wood, including the seating. It wasn't comfortable long-term, but it wasn't bad and was quite eye catching. They have a patio area, so I am curious to see the décor set up there. We were enthusiastically greeted and seated quickly. I can say this is something they are very consistent about! They got busy very quickly and we heard everyone being greeted upon arrival. We only had a few moments to look at the menu when our server asked our drink order. I had been considering a tea, but being so unfamiliar with the menu layout, just went with a soda. When it arrived, I tried really hard to keep a blank face. They charge $2.50 for a *can* of soda? Okay... not ordering that again, lol. We had more time to look over the food options and that's great because we were going back and forth and being so indecisive! I was tempted to order one of everything. Part of what changed my mind was that our server couldn't answer any questions about customizing our meal, seemed impatient and then started saying things that were contradictory, like you can't customize because they don't make it ahead of time. I think maybe she was still learning the menu or nervous and misspoke, because later she said something different. However, this was a sign to me that we should keep it simple. I ordered the Tokyo Tonkotsu Ramen for $9.50 and the Chashu Don for $4. My husband got the Gyoza for $5, fried rice for $3 and the ajitama topping for $1. There was plenty of staff on hand. Enough that our server had time to stand in the hallway with her arms crossed and stare blankly at us. Not sure if she was too inexperienced to realize the perception of that, or if it was purposeful. About 15 minutes later, the food started trickling out a few minutes apart. For this reason, it took a while to realize that they weren't bringing my husband his egg because they had added it to my ramen. If they brought the meal together, this would have been easier to point out to our server. When she checked on us and we asked about it, she said the kitchen made a mistake and put it in my ramen. We waited expectantly for her to get him another, but instead she got a plate for me to put the eggs on. I pointed out that he didn't order it soaking in ramen, but she offered no other solution, so my husband just agreed. It was only $1, but I thought it was pretty eye roll worthy that they didn't remove it from the check, considering they made the mistake and didn't want to bring another one. Everything was pretty good! Nothing was a perfect dish, but they had some great potential and it's worth checking out. My broth was creamy and delicious! It was among some of the best broth I've ever had and was soothing on such a cold day. I'm not usually that into the broth and I finished almost all of it by the time we left. The noodles were adequate. The pork was very thin, and not as tender as I had hoped. Tasty overall, but portion wise I felt this was several dollars too high for what we got. The pork belly in the chashu don was excellent! That was very flavorful and very tender, the fat literally melted. Absolutely perfect and what I had hoped for. My plan for the left overs was to put this in the rest of my ramen. The rice was decent, there was just too much garnishment for my taste, especially of the green onion. My only other suggestion is they serve this in a larger bowl as the small bowl was packed and that made it hard to eat without making a mess. Since this is considered a side, I felt we really got the bang for our buck on the portion The dumplings were fried nicely and only a little greasy. I love the crisp from a fried dumpling and these delivered, but I couldn't taste any pork, only the veggies. The fried rice was as expected in flavor, and the portion wasn't bad for the price. In determining a rating, I would have to say the food and price were 3 1/2 stars. If that was my only factor, I would have rounded up to 4 stars because they've been open less than 2 weeks and I feel confident they will find their groove and it will reflect in the food. However the service was a bit under 3 stars and was a noticeable part of our overall impression of the place. This too, I think will improve drastically as the servers get comfortable with the menu and taking care of customers, and the kitchen gets faster. For what it's worth, some servers seemed more seasoned, and ours was nicer on later check ins. I bet if we give it a few months, the experience will be a solid 4 stars or higher. read more

Yay, a ramen place in Denton! The place is small and doesn't fit a lot of people, so I'd recommend coming here when they open to avoid the wait/line. There's also limited parking in front and behind the restaurant. Honestly, I'm not really sure what the difference is between miso and baisen miso ramen :/ I tasted both of them and they were similar. The takoyaki was my favorite though, I get them every time! Also ordered a chicken curry don which wasn't as good as the one I had in Carrollton. Overall, nice place to get ramen once in a while and convenient enough from campus. Sooo to conclude, I'll just say it's like the one in Carrollton but doesn't have the "Carrollton environment" with all the shops and restaurants around it. read more

We'd been to the location in Carrollton by 99 Ranch so were eagerly awaiting this opening! Soft launch weekend was a hit, packed full and worth the price. I love ramen and wondered if it could be really worth going out for - it is. We rolled in at 11am sharp today, commandeering a table for our party of 8. As the time went by, the place filled up quickly. Truly after a day of celebration, a nice big bowl of broth and noodles sounded fantastic. We ordered 2 of the fried gyoza (5 pork & veggie filled dumplings), 2 of the shumai (4 soft dumplings topped with a baby shrimp), edamame, fried calamari fingers (6 for $6.50). The gyoza and shumai are a must, very tasty. The calamari fingers I felt were too chewy and pricey for what you get. Then we settled down and waited for our noodle bowls! My first visit to the Carrollton location, I ordered the pork belly soup that came with ground pork and an egg. The pork belly is not seared, so it is soft. The egg is ok but the real star was that spicy ground pork. This time, I think I've found the ramen bowl of my dreams... I got the veggie ramen and 3 orders of the spicy ground pork as a topping. The bowls arrived fairly quickly, steam rising as we all dove in. The pork topping came in little side dishes, full of chili oil and ground pork. I dumped them all into my bowl, mixing it fully with chopsticks. Very good and spicy enough to make my eyes water - so just right... At that point, eating it you're barely making a dent - and then you have to start planning for how you're going to get this in a to go container! I finished all the broth, satisfied with the good amount of ground pork left on the noodles, soft veggies and flecks of chili. It's in my car right now but my friends are here, and I'm still full, but I am still thinking about it for a snack for later. What are you waiting for? Go there. Get some. Go early so you don't have to wait! AND best of all, it's open on SUNDAY so I don't have to drive to Carrollton anymore for a Sunday morning bowl of nutritious goodness! read more

This is my absolute favorite ramen spot in Denton. The Tokyo Tonkotsu is my go-to and every time I order the agedashe tofu I eat it so fast that I get a stomach ache. So happy the Denton location is finally open! Only two blocks from my house too. The Ramen Soups are always delicious, one of my favorite is Tokyo Black, which is the one in the background. In the foreground is Baisen Miso Ramen. Soup are all around 10.00 and very filling. (I took home left overs) We also ordered shrimp shumai ( Shrimp steamed dumplings , and korokke (Panko bread crumbs fried potato cakes) which Were fresh, delicious and piping hot. We went for peak lunchtime and even though they were busy there was less than a five minute wait. Overall my experience with Hanabi was great. This was my first time trying ramen in a restaurant setting, and I really had no idea what to start with, so I went ahead with the Miso Ramen. The portion was beautifully presented & the flavor was fantastic (the leftovers tasted even better) I will say though, this restaurant is in a ghostly location, trailing in the footsteps of three businesses that failed for whatever reason (Smiling Moose, New York Pizza & Pasta, Taps 'N' Caps). I got the curry ramen and I thought that the egg was perfectly cooked. The egg was boiled but it wasn't rubbery like most boiled eggs and had a soft center. I also thought that the cabbage, noodles, and the soup went really well together. The dish was also very fun to eat using a spoon and chopsticks together. I've had a lot of ramen in a lot of different places in the US. Hanabi is hands down at the top of the list. And in denton, Tx of all places! Get here early. There is a line around the building before they're opened and parking is a pain in the ass. I highly recommend the Tokyo Black Tonkotsu, Karami Tonkotsu, and the Kara Miso. All superb and delicious! Portions are perfect, with enough to take home with you. We've had to each time we've gone. Prices are spot on. 10-12$ price range is very respectable. Grab a side of fried rice and age gyoza to complete your meal! Scoop the fried rice into your ramen bowl for added deliciousness! Expect to wait for dinner. Wait time wasn't that bad, 10-15 minutes, and that was in the middle of dinner. Seating is nice and set around community tables. They're not meant to be comfortable. Get in and eat and get the $&#% out. That's how any ramen shop should be. Interior is clean and modern. Patio will be a great addition when it begins to warm up. If I see someone complain about the 2.50$ Cannes soda on here again I'm going to throw a fit. Anywhere you go will be the same. They just don't bring the can to the table. I had the Spicy Tonkotsu, and it was amazing. For $10, you get great flavor and value. Two pieces of chashu, as opposed to most places serving one, but it is a little hit or miss with the tenderness. The noodles are always cooked to perfection, never soggy or too hard. I add an extra scoop of chili paste at no cost, where other places charge, so for me, Hanabi is the best ramen shop in Denton by far. Also, they have a great friendly staff and a really nice vibe overall. If you haven't eaten here, you're really missing out. read more

I went to go eat lunch there today with my cousin! We got the Takoyaki to start off with, which is the octopus wrapped in a pancake ball shape thing. It had little flakes on top of it and it was moving, but it was just from the heat so I thought it was pretty cool. The takoyaki was pretty good so that was definitely a yes for me. This place is excellent! Lots of options and always delicious. I like the Karami Tonkotsu spicy ramen. We also ordered the squid leg fry and it was incredible. Not too chewy - perfect texture. And it comes with a delicious dipping sauce. My only complaint (and the only reason I didn't give 5 stars) is that they don't have delivery or take-out options. They said it's because it "doesn't hold up well" but that problem could easily be solved with the right containers. If you can get take-out pho, I don't see why you couldn't get takeout ramen as well. I really hope they resolve this issue because I would love to order from them more - without having to eat in the restaurant. read more

Although I was hesitant, this is one of the better ramen experiences Ive had in DFW. Walking in, it's a small yet intimate feeling space. Some of the wood plank walls feels like they grabbed it straight from home depot with no further treatment, but that's me being picky They do a great job giving the Yakitori Balls a full flavor feel. It was creamy, dense, with a salty seafood taste that wasn't overpowering. The octopus itself wasn't as chewy as I would have expected. I was quite pleased. The okonomiyaki was the most disappointing part of the meal. The first thing is they slather the pancake in sauce. The mayo and hoisin? Sauce was way too much. I have a feeling they drown it in sauce to mask the lack of ingredients inside the pancake. Maybe the pancake would have been fine naked, but the amount of sauce they use is overboard. The ramen is the star of the show, and Im glad this is the case. I ordered the Tokyo Black Ramen. Not only does the broth have a thick, pork fat consistency, but the toasted sesame seeds stretch the flavor profile above and beyond. The noodles had a good texture: Soft but with a good chew. The pork belly was tender, slightly seared, yet never felt mushy within the broth. The vegetables were good, but the broth definitely engulfs most of its flavor. Overall I was quite pleased with this establishment. Some of the izakaya items are hit or miss, but the ramen is solid. Price wise, its decent for the quality of the product. This place is quite popular at the moment and the wait line can stretch around the building. As long as they can maintain the execution of the meals, I think this is a great addition to Denton. read more

Called trying to place to go order around 8:20 no answer phone gets sent to voicemail. Drove over got here at 8:44. Asian man behind the counter w tree arm Tattoo didn't greet us and looked at us like "why are you here" asked him if we could place to go order as we tried calling earlier and they were not answering phones being sent straight to voicemail multiple times. He said we are closed w multiple people sitting inside eating. He informed us kitchen closes at 8:45 was disappointing w no reason as to why they were not answering phone besides "oh it's not working I don't know" most places when told a to go order was trying to be made and phones were not being answered would give good customer service and still sit you due to the inconvenience and this place doesn't care If they close at 9:00 they should stop serving at 9 If they close at 8:45 then they should change the times on their door and website.
