[SIP Takeout Review] As one of the closest Japanese food places to where I'm at, and with an easy takeout order system, Hanabi Sushi is more than just that Japanese restaurant by Costco, but rather a go-to spot for those sushi cravings. Our house has three typical spots around here that we go to when we need some sushi in our lives, and we are glad Hanabi is one of them. The rolls are decently sized, and the rice is soft, making the sushi almost melt in your mouth. What is nice is that the specialty rolls are packed with flavor (my go-to is the Lion King baked roll) and the more traditional rolls, such as the rainbow roll has tender fish just the way we like it. Aside from sushi, the only other food I've had is the vegetable tempura, which is decent. For the average pricing around the area, it is pretty typical based on how much you get. The couple times I've ordered online and had takeout, the order was ready every time for when I got there, and it was super easy to go in, get food, and be on my way. I visited Hanabi Sushi for the first time with a couple friends last weekend and was pleasantly surprised with quality food and service! Service/ambiance: We sat in the corner of the restaurant but that didn't stop the waitress from making sure our waters were never empty and empty plates were cleared. All of the staff was very smiley which made the overall experience enjoyable. The inside of the restaurant was very clean, along with the bathroom. Food/menu: I loved how each item of the menu had an image + description and there was a wide variety of rolls to choose from. I could tell each roll was given detailed attention and the sushi chefs did not hold back on how much fish was actually in each roll! P.S. the salmon kama and seafood udon is a must. We came here with a group of friends on a Saturday night and were immediately impressed with the interior of the restaurant. We chose to sit inside but there is an option for covered outdoor patio seating as well. Food: We ordered a variety of appetizers, sushi rolls, and a sashimi deluxe combo to share. Everything was so fresh and you can tell the fish was top tier quality. Highly recommend the Albacore Sunrise, Crunch Salmon Mango, Boston, and Dragon rolls to name a few. Service: Everyone working in the restaurant provided exceptional service and were very friendly and inviting. They answered all of our questions and were helpful on recommendations. The fact that this restaurant is a local family owned business makes me want to support them even more. My daughter and I were craving sushi, so we stopped by Hanabi's for lunch. We arrived around 2pm on a Sunday and there was only one other family in the restaurant. As we walked in, we were immediately greeted with a friendly face. Although we weren't seated in this section, this place also has a beautiful enclosed patio area with a statue (possibly a fountain) in the middle. My daughter ordered the kids bento box and I ordered the teriyaki chicken bento with gyoza and miso soup. In addition, we ordered 2 rolls: California roll (for my daughter) and Pink Dragon. Everything was delicious, and we still had extra tk take home. My daughter is still learning how to use chopsticks, so when the host saw her struggling, she came over with chopstick holders to help her. I thought that was super helpful and great service. My daughter was raving about it so much that she remembered to pack it in my purse for her to use at home The workers were very attentive. They checked in with us multiple times throughout our meal and were quick to remove empty plates from our table. If you're in the area, please check this place out. The ambiance is nice and the service is always great, they are so attentive and they make sure you have all your food items. Long-time eater, and first-time reviewer. I've been here four times in the past decade but consistently this place has always left a lasting impression. I'd come more often if it weren't so far from where I live. The staff is friendly and often when I came, only one or two other tables were occupied surprisingly so it's often relaxing inside. The interior decor is eclectic, to say the least, but I like the new menu, which I was also able to find online as a pdf. The food itself tastes fresh and the miso doesn't have the bad aftertaste taste that instant powdered miso does. The miso also comes in a clam or a mushroom variation. I hope this place sticks around for another decade and I hope I get to visit more. read more

Anyone who takes a sushi recommendation from me should do so with a grain of salt because I don't eat raw sushi. Yes, yes, I'm missing out on the best rolls; it's very safe; yadda yadda yadda. Maybe one day things will change, but in the meantime, Hanabi is my favorite sushi spot! Hanabi has lots of not raw sushi options, and my favorite is the Shrimp Mania. The crispy pieces of popcorn shrimp are abundant and contrast well atop the soft rice roll with shrimp tempura, crab, and avocado. The generous drizzling of sauce and tobiko top off this adventure of a bite. It's very pretty on the plate when you dine in, too. I've had several other rolls that I enjoy there (OMG, Black Hall, Moon Nite, Seafood Dynamite Baked), but this time I just got my favorite Shrimp Mania and a gyoza appetizer since I was ordering for one. The gyoza are well cooked on the outside, juicy and flavorful on the inside. Both were not as good as in person because the crispness was not as prominent due to delivery. Waiting for 2021 to be the miracle we all hope for and allow us back into the dining rooms of restaurants we love. read more

Love their food and service. I discovered this place only a few months ago, but I have been coming to get my sushi fix every few weeks!

Tonight March 26-2024 I arrived to Hanabi around 8:20pm. I was very disappointed with Hanabi. Not with the food But the service I couldn't believe it seems to me that the lady I spoke with owns the business. She saw me and totally ignored me. I was waiting and waiting to order. My daughter and I frequent Hanabi and when I was eventually acknowledged was told that she thought I was picking up food for a delivery service. Even if I was picking up food, a "hello, how can I help you?" would have been nice. Once we talked I was told it was too late to order as they were closed for the night at 8:30pm, but their signs state they are open until 9pm. I'm deeply disappointed with this experience and hope that they are able to reflect and treat future customers with a better attitude. read more

We've only done take out (ashamed to say, a lot!!) but it is always so great! Our area has a ton of places to choose from when ordering sushi, but I love Hanabi because of their huge selection. This is definitely a hidden gem in Mountain View. Some of the best tasting rolls I have had in a while. Plus the wait staff is always friendly. Me and my daughter found our new favorite sushi spot. Let's start off with the condiments. The wasabi here is extremely bland with no kick behind it. That's a huge red flag. The wasabi is essential to the sushi experience. There was no low sodium option for soy sauce. I have high blood pressure to I need to watch my sodium intake :( The fish itself was fairly bad. It did not taste very fresh at all. I had difficulty tasting the different fish in my roll. I do not recommend this place. The service was awesome though so 2 stars. Edit: I had some Safeway Sushi later in the day. Alright I usually don't write a bad review but I have to for this place. I came here during lunch and ordered their lunch bento special. Pretty good deal and whatnot around $14 and you get to pick your protein and like a little side/ appetizer. Comes with rice, misu, and salad. Not bad right? I was super hungry and started going to town on my meal, then I started pouring the dressing onto my salad and noticed hair inside the salad. I didn't really mind it and said, oh well, looks like I won't be having salad. I mean during these special circumstances with covid and everything this was totally unacceptable. And then I took a bite into my shrimp tempura and there was MORE HAIR!? Like what? How is this that much hair in 1 meal? That's just nasty. Like I literally lost my appetite. I didn't even bother going back to the place because I was on my lunch break but come on. Definitely need to take more precaution in allowing hair into your meals. Went here with a very big party (13) since my grandmother was in town. I got the dragon roll and sashimi. They were both okay. I like chacha sushi better. But this isn't bad. My only thing is my dragon roll was just a little on the salty side. I was very appreciative of the staff. Even if our server was new she did her best. I got a free soda for checking in. Nice. Im a regular customer here but after a few times of coming my avocado has came out black in my sushi and considering the PRICE 20$ a roll is outrageous and somehow still manage to give rolls with going bad black avocado I include picture... and not to mention they add their own tip if you go 2hrs prior to closing dine inn which is illegal BTW I could have sued ... overall overrated in my opinion. Unfortunately Won't be coming back anymore. And definitely recommended giving your money to else where businesses that appreciate their customers and serve decent not going bad avocado. Started out coming here because of its proximity to my work and when I had a limited palette. As my taste for raw fish developed I didn't realize how next level the quality of the dishes are here until I tried going to numerous other places and would be disappointed. Normally only dine in for lunch but service is always quick and very friendly and attentive. Usually order the bento box and upgrade to the salmon sashimi which literally melts in your mouth. Had to get avocados rolls (which are also incredibly fresh and absolutely delicious) with my order today since I'm pregnant but will be dreaming of that salmon sashimi until I can have it again. read more

QR code sent to the kitchen and eventually brought to the table. The gentleman that miso soup was kind and friendly. The waitress should take lessons from him. We ordered bento boxes they were great loved it. Fresh and delicious. The miso soup was delicious but a tad to much salt. We also had spicy scallop roll. Absolutely loved them even with the heat. A couple of my friends frequent this sushi place and they raved about it. Finally, I got a chance to come here and taste it for myself. The service was very friendly and pretty efficient. We ordered 6 rolls and they came out in no time. Very fast. Well, there weren't that many people there (we went on a weeknight and there were probably 2 or 3 other tables only), but I thought they made the sushi like a flash! 3 of us and we shared 6 rolls. All the rolls were HUGE!!! Yup, that's lots of rice....I'm not sure if the rolls that we picked were too similar but I felt that the flavor was all the same. Also, there was way too much rice in the sushi. I like rice..but not that much ahahahahah! The sushi rice could also use a bit more vinegar to give flavor. They were a bit too bland. I must say they were pretty cheap... some of the rolls were like $7.95 and they were huge! We also each got miso soup and hot tea..our bill came to about $70. With the amount of food that we got, certainly it wasn't too bad for sushi dinner...and we were very stuffed! The sushi is average but the service is exemplary. The restaurant has two parts. One is like a sushi bar / lounge complete with saki bomb specials and an air hockey table. The second half is the restaurant. It's small and cozy, maybe a seating capacity of 45. Came in on a Sunday after shopping at Costco and was happy to see there were quite a few people inside, always a good sign! The sushi is on the good side of average. Their sauces are sweet which I think takes away from rolls. Their OMG roll is pretty cool though. Its basically a california roll with tempura shrimp inside topped with deep fried pieces of lobster and siracha crack mayo. Not sure if I'd come out of my way for this, but if ever if you're burnt out on costco hot dogs this is a wonderful post-shopping option and I'd happily recommend it. Prices are very reasonable. I started going here a few years ago and have never looked back. I'm a vegetarian and this place has some really great options that are truly vegetarian. I really enjoy the Agedashi Tofu and their Veggie Dragon Roll is awesome. I also love their Tofu Donburi. This is the only Japanese restaurant I know of that makes a vegetarian version of this dish. This is our favorite spot to grab sushi for coworker's birthday, last day, or any time we want to take a break away from campus. The food is awesome but the service needs improvement. I swear I gave up waiving down the waitresses after 10 minutes for some hot tea refill. Even paying for the check requires another 10 minutes. I don't know what they are thinking. How about how are u guys, do u need refill, or just check to see if we need the bill. No the waitress wa too busy just placing napkins and utensils on empty tables. Back to food. Great customer service, everything is so fresh and delicious. It's my go to sushi spot.

We ordered today via Doordash. It stated 45/55 min wait it would arrived at 6:30 PM. It did NOT arrive until 7:00 PM. The Katsu don was soggy, brown and just ugly and not desirable. The Chicken Katsu plate was soggy and the batter was coming off. The ONLY thing that was decent was the Kapa sushi. If you are going to be late, why NOT call and let us know. To give the benefit of the doubt, I don't if you guys were late or the driver was late but this is totally unacceptable when you are paying a premium to use a delivery service and then you ended up with below quality "Mall" food. read more
