Delicious food and super nice waiters :) Food: we got the pork bossam and the dish where you can choose your meat, tofu soup, and it comes with side dishes and veggies. I personally loved the pork bossam here and the meat was perfectly cooked without it being too hard or soft. I also liked the two sauces they provided along with the white wraps. The wraps were a perfect combination to the meat and I highly suggest trying it all together with some of the side veggies. As for the meal, I think it's a great bang for your buck as it is a LOT of food and everything tastes wonderful. The tofu soup perfectly compliments the meat wraps and the bulgogi was nicely seasoned. It was a bear getting there from the Tri-Valley since they closed the 24 freeway for six hours this Saturday. We all found metered street parking right near by. The restaurant has three rows of tables and simple clean decor. We ordered a wide variety of items Chicken Wings 5 stars so good especially when they just come out piping hot. Sticky sweet Raw beef tartare 2 stars the beef used was low quality Bulgogi 5 stars a little thicker cut of the beef made it good. Never went to the old place that was here before, but the interior appeared to be bright and clean. I was the only person inside and was given a menu quickly. They didn't have a lunch menu but they're still in their soft opening, so they may add one later. Their offerings are priced pretty similar to other Korean BBQ spots in the area. I decided to get their bbq spicy pork bowl that comes with rice, egg, and seasoned vegetables. After I put my order in, it took them a while to bring my water out. This dish comes with banchan, soup, and salad but they brought the banchan out right before the spicy pork bowl and the soup and salad came out last. I was struggling to try to finish both the soup and the bowl before they got cold. They should definitely work on their delivery times of the food and space it out. I'm not sure if they just forgot, but it would have been nice to finish my soup and banchan before the bowl arrived. The banchan wasn't all that great. Six little bowls of banchan which actually is generous for one person, but three of them had kimchi which I'm not really a fan of. Would have loved to have potato or bean sprouts, but hey... every place is different I guess. Really wasn't a big fan of the soup and I love just about any kind of Korean soup. Something about the broth was just off. I just didn't care for the taste. The salad was completely drenched in watery salad dressing and was very unappetizing. The biggest letdown for me was the spicy pork bowl. They definitely used a different, more thicker kind of meat than what I'm used to. It wasn't as tender as I've had. The flavor profile was there, but it was a bit tough. The meat to rice and veggie ratio was really sad. For $14, it was mostly rice. The veggies were more like pickled daikon. I don't mind this, but I was expecting regular veggies. Overall, I was disappointed in this bowl. I recognized one of the ladies from Pyeong Chang. That's my usual Korean bbq spot, but wanted to try this place. She told me that her boyfriend had just opened this shop and that she was helping out. They were both really friendly and she's always been a great server. It kind of made me sad because I really wanted to like and support the business, but it just didn't do it for me. The weather has been pretty hot in Oakland so when we entered, flies greeted us at the entrance before the waitress, which was a bit uneasy. But, the inside has a very open space feel to it and lots of new wooden tables and chairs. Food 4/5: We ordered the Korean style shabu-shabu, which was really simple to order. This last trip I tried our their spicy pork, ro se tteokboki with cheese, the seafood pancake, and bibimbap. The seafood pancake was loaded with seafood and the spicy pork was SOLID. The ayce menu isn't all that extensive but it includes appetizers such as KFC, Korean pancake, and corn cheese so it satisfies all cravings! You don't come here for the decor, but for the food. Good quality and good servicing sizes. After taking our orders, our waitress brought us 6 dishes of banchai (side dishes). Their special version of the Bbq dish comes with a plate of various leafy vegetable, two dishes of picked vegetables, a bowl of rice, a dish of hot sauce and a bowl of stew soup of your choice. The Bossam here is literally one of the best things I've ever eaten. For $25, they give you a ton of pork belly, pickled vegetables, and different lettuces and leaves to make wraps. The picture had a bunch of pork belly so I thought it was exaggerated, but no, they actually give you a bunch of pork belly. You can easily share this between 2 people. I love pork belly, so naturally, I love this dish, but if you don't like pork belly as much as I do, I still recommend trying it. The pork belly is fatty and extremely rich. It's lightly seasoned and has a deep meaty flavor. As such, it pairs perfectly with the various pickled and fermented vegetables. The pickled and fermented vegetables have a nice acidity that cuts through the fattiness of the pork belly. The temperature of the soup could have been a bit warmer but I thought the flavor was delicious and just hit the spot. The kimchi pancake was also really nice and crispy. We came in for all you can eat hot pot lunch. They have a reasonable price for AYCE with a good varietal of land and some seafood, but we stuck with beef. Our favorite meat was the beef belly. Its fatty and also has the meat so it stays tender when you eat it. Rib eye was too lean and not enough fat for me. The Mala does not have that strong spicy numbing effect but you can taste the Mala spice. The Kim chi broth was an excellent base. The Kim chi broth has depth and you could taste the Kim chi flavor even when we were done eating. Other places make their Kim chi broth watery or don't have that strong Kim chi flavor but as long as you like Kim chi, you'll like their broth! The dipping sauces provided are ponzu, sesame, and chili. The ponzu sauce has a nice flavor. It has that saltiness, little bit of that sweetness and little bit of that acidity or something that brightens up the flavor. The Sesame sauce had that nutty flavor, and the chili was just chilly flavor with some sweetness. I honestly didn't really use the sauces because the kimchi broth was flavorful enough for me not to use the sauces they provided. The vegetable platter comes with bok choy, napa cabbage, regular mushrooms, green sprouts, tubu, and spinach. I didn't try the Korean Fried Chicken but the garlic flavored one had really strong garlic aromaz which made it smell very delicious to me. They do take a while to bring out the meat, but then again they must have been short-staffed because everyone is short-staffed all over. Was drawn to try this place based on the reviews but was so disappointed. First off, our waitress seemed to truly hate her job and did not make my family feel very welcome. The food arrived at sporadic times and I had to remind them of my bulgogi wraps still hadn't been delivered when my family had already finished their meal. But what was most upsetting was the quality of the meat. We ordered the kalbi and it was totally under marinated and most disturbing is that the pieces of meat were all different temperatures. Some pieces were piping hot and other pieces were room temperature and completely undercooked. The bulgogi which was the last thing delivered was watery with big chunks clumped together. My rice wrappers were also mostly broken so it made it hard to wrap. For a $150 meal it was a total downer and there are plenty of other better Korean places in the neighborhood. We had the beef bone soup, very authentic, takes the beef broth and the sweetness from the daikon, the kimbibo (beef clay pot) nothing notable, the spicy pork was excellent, juicy and with a good kick, (yumm). LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. We found this little gem on yelp after searching for some hot pot. When we first started coming here a few months ago, we were going about once a week. That was a little excessive so now we go about once a month but it's just as good every time. If you go when it's busy, you may have to wait a bit but we've never had to wait more than half an hour. That was also when they were super busy. They really try their best. Once, we came here and there were only two employees with a full house! We were seated pretty quickly and despite the rush, the service was still great. We always get the all you can eat hot pot. It's definitely a bang for your buck type of restaurant. We love the seafood pancake and fried chicken you can get with the all you can eat options. We order a variety of meats and seafood. I love that they portion the dishes perfectly so we never have any leftovers! Everyone is also very friendly and they are good at remembering faces too. We were seated relatively quickly since the restaurant was pretty empty (only 3-ish other parties), but it felt like they forgot about us right after because we had to go up to the counters to ask for menus. The food itself wasn't bad- it was just average. Stone hotpot (traditional broth, beef, lobster balls): Presentation was very underwhelming, especially compared to what was pictured on the menu. Like the other reviews said, it was more fat than lean meat and came pre-cooked. It tasted alright, but that was about it. BBQ beef brisket rice: The sauce was too strong and honestly it was all I could taste. The meat itself wasn't bad but I just wish I could've tasted something other than the teriyaki sauce. At least it looked like the menu picture though. Donkatsu: Very generous portions, but too chewy/tough and a lot thinner than usual katsu. It was also a bit dry, but at least there was a lot of it I guess. SERVICE: The main reason this review was originally just 2 stars.
