I love Handsome Rice so much that I'd be willing to walk twenty minutes from Midtown just to buy lunch once coronavirus starts settling down. I love everything about the restaurant-- authentic Korean cuisine and simple interior design, who wouldn't be a fan? I particularly love their bento box main dishes. I've tried their bulgogi and galbi bowls with salad, pickled daikon and beets, roasted potatoes, and purple rice. I walked by this place and thought it was adorable! I am not a big fan of purple rice so I chose to eat a burger with a side of french fries. The burger tasted good, I just wish it was a bit bigger for $7 without having to choose double meat. The fries were also about $6.. It was a great place to try but I wouldn't recommend to my friends. This is a GREAT spot for lunch, especially around this area where fast casual lunch spots have CRAZY LONG waits. There's never really a long line here, and they make the food quite fast. You can be in and out in less than 10 minutes with a solid meal for around 12 bucks. They have a variety of lunch sets that all taste great and healthy. I like this place especially because there aren't too many asian fast-casual lunch spots in the area and it really tastes like a homemade meal. It's definitely SIMPLE, so it's not for everyone. But I enjoy the simplicity of their meals a lot and think it makes for a nice lunch that won't cause food coma later on. Since it's a very small space, they have (I think) around 3 seats where you can sit at a counter facing out the window to eat. Otherwise, it's mostly a take-out restaurant. Simple yet fulfilling Korean meal. Chef Kim paid extra attentions on details. From simple chicken meal, i was able to taste the difference. It was very juicy and chewy. From Beef Galbi, i could taste what Koreans call "taste of fire". This does not mean its spicy. Its a taste that generared from mixed scent of charcoal while cooking. Kimchi was not spicy at all, but able to sustain unique Kimchi flavor hence suitable for people who arent used to spicy foods. Handsome Rice is downright delicious and extremely aesthetically pleasing. I've eaten here three times and now every time the consistency of wonderful flavors has led me to come back. For $11-$15 dollars you could have one of the best meal experiences and yet it seems the people of this neighborhood are sleeping on it. I don't see this getting as much traffic as it should. My personal favorite is the spicy pork, which is ever so juicy. Not every Korean restaurant can deliver such juicy spicy pork this consistently. If you're matching it by price range I have yet to eat something as delicious for the $12 I paid. I ordered Jeyuk (spicy pork) plate with purple rice, sweet potato, and a side salad. It came out so quickly, but that's probably because the food has been pre-made. Presentation is great and it's a very balanced meal, but the flavor was lacking throughout the dish. The spicy pork wasn't really spicy and it's supposed to be the star of the dish. Let me give you some advice & thoughts about this place. 1. Just go, and get their 'handsome rice' which has all four of their Korean BBQ selections. It will come with their avocado chicken breast (which was the most tender chicken breast I've ever had in my life), galbi (which is my favorite of the four, it really stood out even including all the galbi I've had in Korea), spicy pork (really nice balanced flavor, not overly sweet or salty or spicy like most Korean restaurants in NYC), and bulgogi (again, one of the most balanced taste). I've got no photos of this as I gobbled it up. The pickles were all really nice as well, I'd buy them in bulk if they sold it. 2. Next time, order with with your favorite meat. In the photo, you see my favorite: galbi. 3. I've only tried the chicken wings from their smaller dishes, but let me tell you-it was amazing! Really juicy, well fried, and out of the world sauce. This place is amazing. I got the galbi and it was perfect. Vegetables were delicious and obviously fermented well. The beef had a beautiful marinade that made it so tender! It was the perfect amount of food in the tray. I considered grabbing another for my husband, but we live in Brooklyn and I need him to experience this fresh!
