Since it was such a hot day, we ordered the Hiyashi Chuka (chilled ramen) and the Oroshi Soba Combo with grated radish and tempura. Both were super refreshing and exactly what we were craving. The Hiyashi Chuka had a great balance of flavors with fresh toppings, and the soba was light, chewy, and paired really well with the crispy tempura. The hot tea was a nice touch, and everyone working there was friendly and welcoming. We also loved how extensive the menu is. There are so many Japanese comfort food options that we'll definitely be back to try more. If you're looking for authentic Japanese food in the area, Gomen is absolutely worth a visit.

The gyoza was disappointing since it was reheated and still tasted cold in the middle. Both ramen were filled to the brim with rich, flavorful broth. The white miso broth was slightly less thick and rich than the red miso. The noodles were chewy, and the Tao spice had a nice kick. Unfortunately, there was no AC running so we got pretty hot and uncomfortable during our meal. They also charged us for an extra drink that we didn't order. Sadly, this spot did not live up to expectations and will not return.

Despite being packed at 11 a.m. on a Sunday, our party of seven was seated immediately, an impressive start. The dining room was clean with a tasteful, modern design that made the space feel comfortable and inviting without losing its neighborhood charm. The Bánh Mì Chảo arrived sizzling with a rich beefsteak, sunny side egg, Vietnamese sausage, pâté, and plenty of savory sauce made for soaking up with the bread. The side loaf that comes with the plate deserves its own mention. It had a beautifully crisp, crackly crust while staying soft, light, and airy inside, making it impossible not to finish every last piece. We also love pâté, and this dish used it perfectly without overpowering everything else. The Xôi Thịt Kho Trứng paired sticky rice with tender braised pork belly, a fried egg, crisp pickled vegetables, and crunchy fried shallots for a comforting combination of sweet, salty, and savory. The Bún Chả Hà Nội featured a bright, balanced broth with fresh herbs and delicate rice noodles. The grilled pork had excellent smoky flavor, although the pork patties were a little tougher than I prefer. We also shared a Bánh Mì Que, whose crisp bread and savory pork floss made for a simple but addictive bite. We had a very disappointing experience with our waitress, Sarah. Every time we asked for something, she sighed loudly and didn't even acknowledge our request. It felt like we were inconveniencing her just by ordering. Basic customer service--like responding politely or showing any level of attentiveness--was completely lacking. This kind of attitude made our dining experience uncomfortable and frustrating. We won't be returning if this is the standard of service here. read more

I have been here for more than 10 times. I tried kalgooksu, Dongchimi guksu(cold noodle with radish broth), dumplings, dumpling soup and so on. They all tasted excellent. Especailly Dongchimi guksu is the best cold noodle in Orange county if not in the USA. In a hot summer day, Dongchimi gooksu from this place is the best dish I can think of. read more

This seems to be a busy location as the entire store was packed when I went to pickup at noon. It also has a large plaza with plenty of parking. American Express is accepted here.

Our banchan (side dishes) didn't come until after the appetizer, and only because we asked. We also had to ask for water. Our appetizer arrived without any sauce, and later they brought soy sauce with wasabi, which wasn't even for our seafood pancake or fried dumplings. After all of our food was served, no one came back to check on us--not even once. I'm honestly not exaggerating. The staff kept disappearing, and at one point we saw them all eating lunch together in the dining area, which made us uncomfortable interrupting them. When we were ready to leave, we needed to-go boxes and the check, but no one was around. We finally had to ask a lady who had just clocked in. Our bill was over $300, and honestly, we didn't feel the service deserved a tip. This place is a hit or miss. The food is good, and that's the only reason I'd consider coming back. Unfortunately, the service completely ruined the experience for our entire group. As much as we enjoyed the food, we wouldn't recommend this place based on the service alone.
