Went here on a Tuesday around 3-4PM and got seated right away since it was empty. I came with 4 friends who already tried this place and had a positive experience before. THE SPICE IS NO JOKE!! We got mild but it was still pretty spicy. It was an enjoyable spice that my whole group enjoyed but it had me drinking lots of water. In the tteokbokki the glass noodles and fish cakes tasted good, but the rice cakes were bit too chewy for my liking. The portion doesn't look that big, but it really does fill you up! My group ordered set C which contained the yupdduk w/ glass noodles, veggie fries, and seaweed rice balls. All of my friends and I were satisfied and full by this set! People checked up on our table as well AND their restroom was nicely decorated and CLEAN!! The price looks high, but when shared with friends it isn't that bad. Was initially going to goto another tteokbokki spot in my area, but it did not open until 4pm, so we decided to make a drive out to Buena Park to the OG yupdduk. I remember it being really flavorful, chewy and delicious so I told my friend it would be worth it. This was his first time trying tteokbokki, so I was looking forward to this meal. The restaurant is in a small plaza with plenty of parking. It was empty at 230pm on a Friday, so we got seated right away. You order through a tablet at the table (am I old for hating this method? Lol) it took 10 minutes for us to decide what we wanted. We ordered regular yupdduk and tuna mayo rice. The tuna mayo rice came out so fast compared to the tteokbokki so we mixed the rice and waited for the main dish to come out. When the tteokbokki came out it looked so good, but the flavors were definitely not what I remembered it to be. It was spicy, but bland. Both the rice cake and fish cakes were bland. Not sure what happened to yupdduk... The service was also very weird. After we got seated, the server left us with lukewarm water (on a 90 degree day eating spicy tteokbokki) and the music that was playing suddenly turned off. She literally disappeared, so we had to look around to get more napkins since there was none at the table. It felt like they wanted to rush us out. Once we saw someone else coming out of the kitchen, we asked for some ice. He gave us ice AND cold water that they kept in the fridge behind the counter. Tried this concoction for the first time. I didn't really know what to expect, but it consisted of noodles, rice cakes, cheese, and sausage. The sauce was ridiculously spicy, the rice cakes were just too much to be constantly be chewing, and they added a lot of them. The best part of the meal was the noodles and sausage honestly. It was seasoned well and served with lettuce. 2) Yup Ki Chicken Stew - Since I've had their Yupdduk before, I wanted to try something different. This contained chicken, glass noodle, rice cakes, potatoes, carrots, green onions, red pepper flakes, & corn syrup. The chicken stew was absolutely flavorful and not too heavy. There was a generous amount of chicken wings & drums! I love going to Yupdduk in diamond bar so I have to show my support at their new location in Buena Park. The menu is the same. They're known for the spicy tteokbokki and of course everything else. We ordered a lot of different dishes. Spicy Tteokbokki, rose tteokbokki, spicy daktoritang, kimbaps, soy sauce chicken wings, egg omelette fried rice, and the tuna rice bowl. I've been hearing about this place and their spice levels so had to try out and yup, I went mild and loved it. Enough heat to make it interesting but not too much to overwhelm. Their yup dduk ranges from super mild, mild, original and challenge. Lemme warn you now don't let the name mild deceive you. It was not mild. We also had a side of fried foods, seaweed balls (so fun to get your hands in there and make) and spam mayo rice. Everything was delicious and so fun to eat! Feeling a bit conflicted-- the tteokbokki was bomb, but the service was really off. Their mild spice was challenging, but in a good way. Might try a different location next time as a compromise. We asked the host to sit at a booth, but he said they were "reserved" for larger groups--yet seated us at another four-top anyway. Even stranger, the restaurant stayed empty the whole time except for one other table, so the reasoning didn't really hold up. We also tried to request basic things like napkins, water, and side plates through their tablet system, but those requests were ignored. We had to flag someone down every time we needed something, and even then they would forget. One heads-up: I didn't realize the default Yup Dduk only comes with two sausages. First impression was great, well known Yupdduk (yup ki Korean spicy rice cakes, famous for its hot sauce) moved into Buena Park, I was so excited to try it! We got the Mild Yupdduk Set A, with the eggs and vegetable tempura. The amount was generous for even four people, and flavorful. Even though it was mild, the spice level was pretty up there. I'm usually good at eating spicy food, so you can take my word for it haha . Vegetable tempura was great, helped bring the heat down a tad. For drinks we got the banana milk and Diet Coke. I recommend the banana milk, so tasty and helps with the spicy . There was one server out, one cook and one other person inside - I could tell the server was trying to do his best. Buena Park is my favorite location, so I have some tips for the owner that I hope you will consider. Please order from the 6th St. location in K-Town and learn their flavor. It's not just spicy; it's RICHLY spicy. Maybe they use more MSG? I'm not sure, but if you can replicate the ingredient proportions, you will be successful. Many people in Korea consider LA Yupddduck to be one of the best; they even come from Korea to enjoy it. Your original flavor tends to be just capsaicin spicy. You can see this in the photos, and the dish often appears oily. You need to add a deeper, richer broth flavor. Your Yupddduck has a lot of juice, broth, or soup, whatever you prefer to call it, but the flavor is quite bland. I wish you the best in your business! It's actually in a very common plaza that I used to visit every time because it's adjacent to the Koko Chicken pub / beer restaurant and next to the Van Dyke Coffee Roasters cafe in Buena park! I used to drive to Korea-town LA just to pick up Yupdukk because that was the only place in LA/SOCAL aera. But now that it's now in Buena park.i don't have to drive to k-town and take the plane to Korea anymore!! I enjoy having their korean rose (extra mild level of spiciness) teokbokki with fisk cakes. I like to order the Set C: because it has the rice cakes (Dukk), boiled egg, vegetable fried tempuras, seaweed rice balls and glass noodles (japchae noodles -thin glass noodles if you happen to be gluten intolerant). I also added the flat wide noodles because it feels like you're having malatang in rose flavor haha. They have a few other flavors like mala and mala rose.but I only get Rose because it's creamy and not spicy enough. I don't handle spicy foods too well so I just get extra mild which is far from bland at all. It's still spicy so i also get the yogurt peach drinks and the banana milk drinks. The lady who took me in was very friendly and dropped by a few times at my table to make sure we had everything. Apart from the set C, I also ordered the Tuna kimbap which was also fantastic. The tuna kimbap is perfect when you have it with the sauce because it could become spicy if you just keep eating the rice cakes. I also added the seaweed rice ball as it was fun to make your own rice balls with gloves so that you can share it together! Fried dumplings were also delicious to dip in rose sauce too! If i return next time. i would love to try their original yup dduk flavour because that is actually the real original flavor of Korean street food!!! I'm glad I was able to try this restaurant because it reminded me so much of the one I had tried in Seoul! If you're too far away from the restaurant, they even have a pick up and delivery option available which is good for busy people to be able to dine at the restaurant. I would recommend consuming it on the same day because the rice cakes become stiff the next day. The interior of the restaurant was neat and warm. If you're familiar with Buena park and this specific plaza, it essentially replaced the other Korean rice cake restaurant that was here before. The lady was really nice and I could tell that she genuinely cared about her customers because she was smiling throughout and making sure that we had a great dining experience. The second thing about buena park is that it is the new "Korean Town" in OC which followed Los Angeles and Garden Grove.
