I would understand if the restaurant was busy, but there were only two tables occupied at the time. Was initially going to goto another tteokbokki spot in my area, but it did not open until 4pm, so we decided to make a drive out to Buena Park to the OG yupdduk. I remember it being really flavorful, chewy and delicious so I told my friend it would be worth it. This was his first time trying tteokbokki, so I was looking forward to this meal. The restaurant is in a small plaza with plenty of parking. It was empty at 230pm on a Friday, so we got seated right away. You order through a tablet at the table (am I old for hating this method? Lol) it took 10 minutes for us to decide what we wanted. We ordered regular yupdduk and tuna mayo rice. The tuna mayo rice came out so fast compared to the tteokbokki so we mixed the rice and waited for the main dish to come out. When the tteokbokki came out it looked so good, but the flavors were definitely not what I remembered it to be. It was spicy, but bland. Both the rice cake and fish cakes were bland. Not sure what happened to yupdduk... The service was also very weird. After we got seated, the server left us with lukewarm water (on a 90 degree day eating spicy tteokbokki) and the music that was playing suddenly turned off. She literally disappeared, so we had to look around to get more napkins since there was none at the table. It felt like they wanted to rush us out. I love going to Yupdduk in diamond bar so I have to show my support at their new location in Buena Park. The menu is the same. They're known for the spicy tteokbokki and of course everything else. We ordered a lot of different dishes. Spicy Tteokbokki, rose tteokbokki, spicy daktoritang, kimbaps, soy sauce chicken wings, egg omelette fried rice, and the tuna rice bowl. Feeling a bit conflicted-- the tteokbokki was bomb, but the service was really off. Their mild spice was challenging, but in a good way. Might try a different location next time as a compromise. We asked the host to sit at a booth, but he said they were "reserved" for larger groups--yet seated us at another four-top anyway. Even stranger, the restaurant stayed empty the whole time except for one other table, so the reasoning didn't really hold up. We also tried to request basic things like napkins, water, and side plates through their tablet system, but those requests were ignored. We had to flag someone down every time we needed something, and even then they would forget. One heads-up: I didn't realize the default Yup Dduk only comes with two sausages. Many people in Korea consider LA Yupddduck to be one of the best; they even come from Korea to enjoy it. Your original flavor tends to be just capsaicin spicy. You can see this in the photos, and the dish often appears oily. You need to add a deeper, richer broth flavor. Your Yupddduck has a lot of juice, broth, or soup, whatever you prefer to call it, but the flavor is quite bland. I wish you the best in your business! I used to drive to Korea-town LA just to pick up Yupdukk because that was the only place in LA/SOCAL aera. But now that it's now in Buena park.i don't have to drive to k-town and take the plane to Korea anymore!! I enjoy having their korean rose (extra mild level of spiciness) teokbokki with fisk cakes. I like to order the Set C: because it has the rice cakes (Dukk), boiled egg, vegetable fried tempuras, seaweed rice balls and glass noodles (japchae noodles -thin glass noodles if you happen to be gluten intolerant). I also added the flat wide noodles because it feels like you're having malatang in rose flavor haha. They have a few other flavors like mala and mala rose.but I only get Rose because it's creamy and not spicy enough. I don't handle spicy foods too well so I just get extra mild which is far from bland at all. It's still spicy so i also get the yogurt peach drinks and the banana milk drinks. The lady who took me in was very friendly and dropped by a few times at my table to make sure we had everything. Apart from the set C, I also ordered the Tuna kimbap which was also fantastic. The tuna kimbap is perfect when you have it with the sauce because it could become spicy if you just keep eating the rice cakes. If i return next time. i would love to try their original yup dduk flavour because that is actually the real original flavor of Korean street food!!! If you're too far away from the restaurant, they even have a pick up and delivery option available which is good for busy people to be able to dine at the restaurant. I would recommend consuming it on the same day because the rice cakes become stiff the next day. The interior of the restaurant was neat and warm. If you're familiar with Buena park and this specific plaza, it essentially replaced the other Korean rice cake restaurant that was here before.
