I've tried Hank's twice, and honestly, I didn't get the hype the first time, but I'm glad I gave it another chance because it is one of the best places to get bagels in Burbank! The first time around I decided to try one of their sandwiches. I got a Number 1 on an everything bagel. Huge disclaimer: I ordered online, picked it up, and drove about 10 minutes home. I didn't get to try it "fresh" so I'm sure it had an affect on the taste. The everything bagel was a little salty (could've been the cheddar too) and the sauce had made the bagel soggy. I also got some potato salad, and it was a little bland for me. I wasn't the biggest fan, however, I knew the place was a big hit, so I came back for just a bagel and cream cheese. I am SO GLAD I did! I got an onion bagel with veggie cream cheese and it was perfect. The bagel was soft on the inside, and crispy on the outside. I also loved their cream cheese, and I can't wait to try the other flavors. I've ordered online both times and it's worked out well for me. I did try to stop by here in November of 2020. It was a Saturday, around 11 am, and they were already closed. They do say they close once they sell out, but I really didn't think they would so early. That never happened to me again though, so maybe it was just a busy day. Parking can be a little tricky but they are super fast/on time if you order online. The prices are around the same as Noah's (I got two bagels w/cream cheese for $8). I think it's totally worth it for the time and care that goes in. Their other sandwiches sound pretty tempting, so I am definitely open to trying one again. I think the first time around I just didn't get something to my taste. Well let me start by saying they have a great ordering system online, with Apple Pay, but I'm sorry to say their bagels don't do bagels justice. First time customer today and I was really excited to try them out based on all the positive, "these are just like NY" reviews. I grew up eating NY bagels (born and raised there) and these, well, aren't. Hopefully my photos show what I got today. The plain bagel tasted like sour dough bread, the bagels were really flat and under cooked (I tried several), and were gummier than Panera bread bagels (which are pretty gummy). Now, I will say that I don't believe Hank's fancies themselves as "NY bagels on the west coast". And while that was my initial expectation based on the reviews, to presume that would be unfair to Hanks. Also, what I got today doesn't resemble many of the bagels in the sandwich photos I see on Yelp, so maybe today was an off-day? But, if that's the case, then someone really screwed up in the back and is killing their reputation (dunno - trying to be fair here). I may try them again in the future, but for a first impression, I felt like I wasted $24 :( read more

By far on my top 3 choices for bagels!!! With one based out in New York! This place is legit amazing! Bagels are made fresh daily and sell out pretty fast! They sometimes even sell-out as early as noon, so get here early! What I always like to do is place a order ahead of time. A day early to be quite frank. Bagels are crispy on the outside with a semi-soft inside. My favorite is the poppy seed! But even their plain one is to die for! I haven't tried their in-house bagel sandwiches but they look divine! Coming from the east coast, I am a bit snobbish with my bagels. And so because of that Hanks was only okay. The main issue I had was that they forgot to toast both bagels we ordered. This made the bagel eating experience subpar. Second, the bagels themselves were a bit of a disappointment. They were too chewy and bread like. I've searched high and low and I finally found the best bagels in the SFV. Shouldn't be so hard to find a great bagel in the valley, OG Western Bagel is good and iconic LA, but Hank's is far superior. Modern B&B is good but the gluten free thing makes those too dense IMO, Hanks bagels are perfect. A little pricey but as with anything, worth it for the quality. And that chewwwwwwwwwww! Oh my god. I've single-handedly found my favorite bagel shop. There's no wonder there are so many people that come in and out for bagels and coffee in the morning. Lots of take out orders. The bagels are so fresh and the cream cheese tastes sooo much more delicious than your store bought cream cheese. The veggies they put work so well with the nova salmon lox. I've also found my favorite lox. Not sure if this is everyone's cup of tea but I find that it tastes like I'm eating sashimi on a bagel and I'll take any excuse to have that because I love sashimi. My favorite bagels in LA! (And I'm from NY so I've had delicious bagels)! Right now you can order online on their website when they are available (no walk-ins so order early)! They frequently sell out which is understandable! My absolute favorite is the Rosemary Sea Salt bagel (which you can get toasted with honey butter (mmm I'm drooling as I write this). Prices are good for the bagels. Bagel Sammies are a little pricier than average but also MUCH tastier than average. I highly recommend swinging by for anything they offer. Always cooked to perfection and dough with lots of flavor. WORTH the bagel calorie splurge! read more

It's hard to hard to find great bagel in Los Angeles. You have to be willing to drive a bit Though in all fairness this seems to be changing. Many more "real bagel" options than when I first moved here from back East. So when I heard about Hank's, I was Skeptical, that maybe it will turn out to be another Noah's or Einstein, places that some people seem to think is a bagel. But Hank's was a pleasant surprise. A true contender. One of the best bagels I've had out here. I got a salt bagel. That's what I judge bagel places by. The outside was crusty, yet crispy, and the inside is chewy but not doughy and not too soft. Actually in my opinion it is almost perfect texture. Really fantastic!! They are definitely on the pricey side. My bagel with cream cheese was $4. It's $23 for a baker's dozen. $5 for an 8oz cream cheese. My only complaint about the bagel, is that they do this thing where they are afraid to put too many toppings on the bagel. My salt bagel had some flaky kosher salt on it, not coarse salt like I'm used to getting. It was very lightly covered. The underside had no salt at all. So after you eat one half that is slightly salty, you're left with another half that is well... a plain bagel. I will never understand that. If you put more salt on it, people can always scrape off what they don't want. When I go to a pizza place and order a pepperoni pizza, if it only had one piece of pepperoni right in the center, I would be slightly disappointed. I think the bagel bakers from Hank's would feel that way as well. I don't know if they do this with the onion or everything bagels, couldn't go in the shop because of Covid safety policy (good job!!) but this is enough for me to ding them a couple of stars. The service was excellent. Super friendly super accommodating, I love it. They are handling the pandemic with great care and caution. You can feel safe going here. The handle all transactions outdoors. I'm giving them back one of the stars I took away from lack of toppings. I would definitely come here again, even disappointed with the lack of salt on my salt bagel because it's still better than 99% of the bagel places here in Los Angeles. read more

I live around the corner and ordered a #3 bagel sandwich to take home (housemade gravlax, onions, tomato, capers, cream cheese and sprouts) and holy crap, I'm a big lox bagel fan and will always order one if I see it on a menu, and this was THE best lox bagel I have had in my thirty something years of life. The bagel was chewy and perfect, the lox was generous, and it was huge! I had to save half even though I didn't want to. I loved it so much that I picked up delivered a #1 breakfast sandwich to my boyfriend at work (because I wanted him to experience the greatness and have a better day because of it, and I secretly hope he will take me there often after he knows it exists) and he texted me that he loved it, too. The service is excellent and the servers are really sweet. When I ordered by phone, they asked me to read my card number over the phone, which was kind of weird and may not make everyone comfortable, but that's life in these COVID times, I guess. I'm not exaggerating when I say this is probably one of the best bagel sandwiches I've ever had. This was my first time trying a Rosemary & Salt bagel and it was delicious. I chose the Number 4 with Rosemary & Sea Salt bagel (no tomato). It literally had ALL of my favorite things (avocado, sprouts, pickled radish). Their online ordering system is easy to use and it was ready as soon as I arrived for pick-up. Tip: I didn't see a place to either adjust the pick-up time or choose a time slot, so I was told I could leave a note at check-out saying what time I would arrive, so they know when to make it. I ended up calling and they were so nice about it and made sure it was fresh upon arrival. There are now two locations to order from: Sherman Oaks & Burbank. Gave this place two tries, 2 weeks apart (even after they opened their new bakery): --Soggy, cold bagels. Hair in my last order. --Customer service leaves a lot to be desired. --1 stars just for the being close to my place. I placed an online order a few weeks ago and when I arrived there was a huge line out front. There seemed to be confusion because most people said they were waiting to pick up. I called the store while waiting and they said I could walk right in to grab my pick up order. I didn't want to cut the line but decided to check inside: about 10-15 pick up order bags were on a shelf with none of the employees helping to hand them out (there was a sign saying not to touch them). When I finally got my bagel sandwiches home, there was grease all over the wrapper and the cheese, bacon, and eggs were cold on both. Today, I ordered online again. One of my bagels was missing the tomato and the cream cheese (all they put on it was egg, and the egg was only on one side. I wish I was making this up). I had to call several times to get through to get it remade and waited on hold for a while--I'm a realistic person but it wasn't busy when I picked up and it wasn't that busy when I came again). I managed to speak to someone that got my bagel started. Came in and it was ready. The review of the bagel from my gf: "it's okay". Again, I wish I was making this up but as I was writing this review, my gf turned to me and showed me a short hair that was in her bagel sandwich. GROSS. These bagels are really good. Me and my bf got the number 1 bagel and he got an extra bagel on the side with cream cheese, bacon and avocado. I had many bagels in my life and these are by far the best ones I had. The bacon they use really stands out, it's like Smokey and sweet. The only reason I give it a three star is because one, it was really hard to bite into the bagel. I had a really hard time biting into the bagel, and it just made a mess when I did manage to bite a piece off. So anyone with sensitive teeth beware lol, I'm not sure if it was this batch of bagels that just came out a little to hard. The second thing is that they are a little on the pricy side. For the three bagels that I order it came out to $32.00 which is crazy for bagels. I do get that your paying for the quality but the bagels were hard so I hope they do fix that part. read more
