Interior is not big enough for big groups dining.

I visited this newly opened spot last Saturday to try their roast duck. I walked in and ordered takeout, but the wait was much longer than expected. When I arrived, there was only one customer ahead of me picking up an order, and there were no dine-in customers at all. Even with two staff members working behind the counter, it still took about 20 minutes to get my roast duck. Normally, ordering roast duck -- including chopping it up -- shouldn't take more than 10 minutes. While waiting, I also noticed some issues with how they handled other customers. The roast duck tasted decent, but it wasn't worth the long wait, especially considering the price is higher than other places.

Newish Chinese restaurant serving Cantonese comfort food like roast meats and Chinese BBQ, rice dishes, noodles and clay pot. George F put this spot on my radar and great to pick up various items without venturing to Oakland Chinatown. Sadly, many favorite spots have closed due to the economy, crime, etc. and opening elsewhere which is convenient but sad for Chinatown. Ordered the beef chow fun ($17) and 2 meat combo ($25 as of 5/4/26): roast duck and roast pork belly. All items were enjoyed and would return. The female owner helping me was friendly and helpful. Place clean and menus have pictures and descriptions that make it helpful for those not familiar with the food. Private lot parking off Castro Valley Blvd at the opposite end of the plaza from Nation's Burgers.

Solid lunch spot for comfort foods: clay pots, fried items and bbq. The staff here are very efficient, friendly and can speak multiple dialects. Futuristic LED lighting on the ceilings, padded neon orange seating/booths that are nicely spaced out. I personally thought $30 for 3 meat platter was pretty steep but everything else on the menu seemed to be mostly under $17. The char siu wasn't too fatty, they don't overuse the red dye and not too much cancer causing char! Chicken and duck were standard. Loved the cauliflower stir fry - big portion, seasoned right and lots of Chinese cured meats to nibble on. The clay pot rice noodle was a simple surprise, a clear broth, shredded daikon, shiitake, dried shrimp, chicken and some noodles - felt light and healthy. Light handed with the MSG here. Try the chili sauce on the table. Solid spot for a quick lunch - steady flow of people throughout our visit. 3.7 - rounding up

Hao Kee Kitchen takes over the old King Kong space. The Cantonese BBQ / noodle restaurant is casual with noodle, claypot and rice dishes. We ordered the deep fried smelt, chicken rice noodle claypot with a dual of roasted duck and Hainan chicken. All of the items were good. Service was good and there is plenty of parking in the large shopping center.

Not too sure if we will visit again. The roasted goose was a rare find but way too pricey. $80 something for half. The favor was excellent however the meat was too tough. I couldn't compare with the authentic goose I had in Hong Kong. I believe the supply itself is not the same. The clay pot rice noodles felt like a pot of leftover mixed together. The roasted pork and bbq pork were good but small in portion. The cups and plates were all greasy. The cleanliness needs improvement. The service overall was attractive. They didn't serve the plum sauce until we ask for. Only the goose took quite a long time to prepare.

Found there is this new place for claypot rice and HK BBQ. Restaurant is bright and clean, but unfortunately the dinnerware is not. Arrived during lunch hour on Sunday, around 1pm. It was full house, and there was only two servers were serving approximately 10+ tables. We were about to pour water to the water cup but found it was greasy holding it, so we use the napkin to wipe down a bit, finding there is still lipstick stain because it transferred to the napkin, quite disgusting. Told the server and they quickly changed to paper cups, soon after, next table customer said the same thing. While waiting, found the chopsticks were not very clean either, some kind of vegetable was still sticking on it! So we decided to clean with water ourselves one more time. I understand it is new and everything still needs to be adjusted, but serving unclean dinnerware is quite nasty. Management please take a deeper look and hoping to see improvement next time I come. So we finally ordered, and knowing it was still lunch hour and there was a wait. Time has been ticking and our food was not ready. Not only ours not ready, they barely started serving maybe 5 tables before us and we actually were already seated for 25 minutes. Wow, orders have been backed up and still seeing the kitchen non stop cooking! Business owners should look at this since this is understaff during peak hours. About the plates we ordered: Two BBQ items with rice (Hainan chicken & roast duck) 8/10: Not sure if it was because of this dish has been ready for a while before it was served, everything was cold. Both hainan chicken and roast duck tastes good. In addition, I found they served honey soy bean, where you don't find many places make those and serve along with roast duck. Beans are soft enough and very tasty. Fish fillet & Tofu Claypot 7/10: This dish took the longest, from the moment we sat down till it served, it took more than 30 minutes. Taste is just all right, it is only some ordinary deep fried tofu and fish fillet, not a surprising dish. Overall, this restaurant is still new and there is still a lot of improvement. If I will ever go back? I might, to try out their claypot rice and give them another try

    Prawn Noodles 3.5/5

First time here. Order the Fish Fillet & Tofu claypot, Three combo BBQ platter, Dry Fried Green Beans, and Prawn Noodles. Fish Fillet & Tofu claypot 4/5- Very good. Had a large amount of fried tofu and fried fish simmered in a nice sauce. Included shiitake mushrooms, roast pork and garlic. Three combo BBQ platter 3/5 - Roast pork was not available. We had roast duck, char siu, and hai nan chicken. Reasons for loss of two points; no roast pork and the roast duck included the whole duck neck as part of the serving, which is just skin and bones. Flavors were good but not sure this plate is worth the price for such small servings. Dry Fried Green Beans - 4/5 - Pretty typical green beans. Nice sized serving with chilis, pickled veggies and some ground pork. Very flavorful. Prawn Noodles 3.5/5 - This was surprising that the noodles were ramen noodles. I liked them, my wife not so much. Included a few small shrimp and some bean sprouts and not much else. I liked the flavor. Serving was much "lighter" using ramen instead of a heartier noodle. Overall, I would go there again and try some of the other dishes.

We've been here a couple times and enjoy the Chinese food and cafe atmosphere. The 3 Combination BBQ platter is what introduced us to our favorite item on the menu. The (A-4) Macau Style Roasted Pork, sliced roasted pork with crispy skin. Also, the Iced Hong Kong Milk Tea is a good drink. I've noticed that there are large tray orders ready to be picked up at opening so I decided to give it a try for Mother's Day. We ordered 3 party trays. Pork, noodles, and cauliflower. They were hot and ready for pick up on time. Alan and the staff provided excellent service and assisted with carrying the food to the car. The food made Mom happy and our Mother's Day Celebration memorable. Thank you Hao Kee Kitchen, Castro Valley!

    A whole Hainan chicken

Hao Kee replaced the former King Kong, and here the specialty is Cantonese BBQ. On our visit, we tried the combination two items platter with roast duck and roast pork, a whole Hainan chicken, stir fry choi sum with garlic, and signature Hunan stinky tofu. Even though we came later in the afternoon, between lunch and dinner, we were surprised that we still have to wait a bit for our food, even though the restaurant was only half full at that time. The wait was worth it however, as the Cantonese BBQ was truly excellent. The roast duck was succulent, has good amount of meat, and was not too oily. The roast pork has crispy skin and the meat was firm but moist. The combination platter came with two different kinds of dipping sauce (sweet&source, plum). The stir fry Choi sum with garlic was fresh and generous in portion, and had good garlic taste. The Hunan stinky tofu was very close in taste to the ones we had in Changsha, the capital of Hunan, so I would say it was a good rendition. Finally came the huge plate of Hainan chicken. This was definitely the highlight. For our group of five, a whole chicken was definitely a better value, as it was 50% more in cost than the half-chicken order and not 100%. The chicken meat was moist and tender, with good balance of dark meat and white meat pieces. We ate a lot, but still have quite a bit left over to take go. For all that food, we only spend about $20 per person (before tax and tips), which was very economical. The lady owner was really nice and friendly, and service was good. Parking was not too hard since it is in a shopping plaza.

Hao Kee Kitchen opened 2 weeks ago where King Kong Chinese Kitchen was. Interior has new 7 new tables, 7 new booths. No decor save for signage on front wall. Some chairs are too cramped. Seating packed post noon. Luckily got seating soon after entering. Many patrons ordered to go. Ordered. Got food in 10ish minutes. Offerings: (BBQ, Cantonese): appetizers, pan fried combos, specialities, noodle soup, rice plate, entrees, claypot, drinks... Eats: pan fried chow mein with char Siu (14.95) -home made chili sauce on table not too spicy. -pan fried chow mein just barely pan fried. Angel hair size. Warm. Tasted only soy sauce. No wok hei. Had semi raw bean sprouts/green onions. No blanching nor stir fried. -some small pieces of char siu semi-hard/chewy. Not stirred fried nor fresh. Just got into warmed chow mein. 3.5 stars semi-worthy:ymmv quality: underwhelming. Pan fried chow mein ok. Rest not. Quantity: barely reasonable. Plates have unique designs with Chinese sayings/wordss: good, peace & happiness et al.

This new Chinese food restaurant took over the old King Kong place on the Blvd. It has good ambient, the inside feels really clean and the vibe is great. Servers are super attentive and nice. They are very patient and came to check on us a few times to see if we need anything. It was a light dinner for us so we got the Choi Sum in broth and sweet and sour pork. Both dishes look very appetizing and the portion is great. However, the sweet and sour pork has almost no pork in it. It's just a heavy layer of fried breading. More than half of the dish when I took a bite there was either no meat in there or so little meat that you only taste the breading. Even though it was a disappointing dish, the taste was still very good though. Will have to come back another time to give it another try.

Nicely remodeled restaurant, but the wait took almost an hour due to only 2 waitress'. Haines Chicken has sauce poured over the chicken & so it was sparse whereas I've seen a Yelper get a side of the garlic, green onion sauce. Food was good, but they aren't equipped to handle a room full of customers due to the lack of staffing. Be prepared to wait(we waited a good 30 min. & the entire lunch took 1hr. w/3 dishes. Orders: -3 Meat BBQ Combo platter which we chose the Macao BBQ Pork, Haniese Chicken & Honey BBQ Pork. The meats were well curated but the chicken had very little ginger, scallion oil dipping sauce. The chicken had little meat, so for this reason it didn't appeal to me, but everything else was perfectly made. -Stir Fried Beef Chow Fun(not pictured) was flavorful without a lot of grease & what I loved the most is the quality of the meat which was tender & seasoned perfectly. This is a dish we always order & in this case we weren't disappointed. -Hai Nan Chicken Fried Rice(not pictured) was moist & consistently flavorful. What impressed me was the quality of the pieces of chicken. Usually it seems like most places just offer the scraps of chicken pieces, but here at Hao Kee Kitchen you get a nice chunk of chicken. Would revisit Hao Kee Kitchen again to see how the efficiency of dishes go.

When I asked him where he got the ribs, he said Famous Dave's. I knew that I had to try them out for myself. It was always one thing after another, but finally, I had time on a Wednesday afternoon. I didnt want to deal with a crowd and when I went, it was perfect. We were seated right away. Our service was Yanira and she was awesome. So friendly, answering all of our questions. I got the ribs and meat meal since I also wanted to try their chopped pork. My sides were Mac and Cheese and Tater Tots. When my order came, I got their special fries and before I could even say anything, another server came with a bowl of my tater tots apologizing for the mistake. No complaints here since I got another side. Everything was delicious. The ribs were tender. I also loved their BBQ sauce. I was going to order water, but since it was a special occassion, i ordered a Dr. Pepper and I was surprised that it came in a large mason glass jar. The Dr. Pepper wasn't peppering.....if you know you know, it just didnt taste strong, but I did enjoy that the drink was ice cold. They dont have coke, but serve pepsi products. The cornbread was perfection, warm and buttery. Disclaimer, the Mac and Cheese had corn in it, just stating if you care about that sort of thing. It was more on the saucy cheesy side. I never had Mac and Cheese like that, but since I love Mac and Cheese and I love corn so it was hit in my world. Portions are huge and I had to take some food home. Prices seem comparable to other places that serve BBQ. Lots of seating areas and I can see on special occasions or on the weekends, this place could get packed. Plenty of parking. This restaurant is off Winton, in the area where Panera is at. If you go all the way to the mall you have gone too far. I know that I will be coming back, I am curious to try their burnt tips. They have a loyalty program. You can sign up before, it is simple, or sign up there as you are eating.

I'm gonna check with my NorCal moots about this but sucks if that's true. I was going to comment on how this is one of few bastions of affordable, slightly more unique food in the bay area, but I guess that's not the case. I'm spoiled by having a Dollar Hits in SoCal literally down the street from me so I can't say this place compares, but it's at least an option for NorCal, you know? This definitely used to be another restaurant, but then retrofitted to be a grill. Super large grill in the middle for everyone to communally cook at indoors. This is a good combination between the outdoors grill it yourself and the indoors seating of both the SoCal Dollar Hits, so I thought that was nice. They have all the classics here, isaw (sometimes Dollar Hits doesn't have this unless you request -it's chicken intestines), large intestines, chicken skin, kwek kwek (battered quail eggs), and Tender Juicy bright red filipino hot dogs (a must). You can also order a side of rice and the sauces were self serve (made it a bit sticky). It gets a bit smoky in there even with the fans, but overall had an enjoyable time the time when I did visit.
